《New World - New Beginning》Chapter 9: My first skill.

For now, I must get away from this place and look for another place to capture the Woolly Boar.
I need to go in the opposite direction to that adventurer, so there will be less chance of a fateful encounter. I must also avoid any fights or encounters with the goblins since he is using them for something. If he finds that many of them are dead, he may start to suspect that someone is nearby.
Come to think of it, I might as well take advantage of the newly acquired title to find new herbs to later sell; who knows, maybe some will be valuable.
After walking for another 30 meters, I stop, I'm far enough away from that guy, plus this looks like a good place to set a trap.
I set the same trap again and hid in the bushes, and to my good luck, I found a weed near this one.
[You have obtained macra herb x 1]
This gives a total of 16 herbs that I have collected so far; although I don't know what their price is in the market, at the moment, I have collected all of them:
[Sana Grass x 11]
[Hipos Grass x 3]
[Noda Grass x 1]
[Macra Grass x 1]
The Sana grass may sell as a stack. If only I had a book on herbs or medicine, then I would know what uses they have, but for now, they are nothing more than materials.
But for now, it's time to wait and keep an eye on the trap and its surroundings.
After waiting for who knows how long, I finally hear the rustling of branches in front of me, and to my good fortune, it is a Woolly Boar and not just any Boar but the one I was looking for, Pelpa.
And how do I know that? Well, because of the scarf he has around his neck, although it is a little dirty, it is normal since he is in the wild; my fear was that it would fall off while he was wandering through this forest.
Pelpa approaches the fruit I placed with fearful steps; it seems that during the time he was in the wild, he didn't have such a good time.
As he approaches, the trap springs and grabs him by the hind leg, lifting his body and leaving him upside down.
oenk oenk oenk oenk!!!!
Pelpa freaks out and starts squealing, so I have to wait a bit for him to calm down; if I show up now, he might freak out even more and hurt himself.
After 2 minutes, Pelpa calms down, so I crawl out of the bush and slowly appear.
Pelpa
I called her name to try to show her that I knew her; I don't know if it would work or not, but it's worth a try.
oenk????
It seemed to have worked; I slowly approached her and stroked her head gently.
Don't worry, Pelpa, I'll take you home. .....
Pelpa seems to calm down and looks a little docile, but I'm still afraid he will run away when I notice any sudden movements.
I start to loosen the ropes and slowly lower Pelpa down, then slowly approach to pet him gently; he must still be scared, so I pet him for one full minute.
Now that he is calm, I slowly put the ropes down his neck.
Pelpa, let's go home, come on.
Pelpa gets up and follows me with soft steps; I try to avoid using as much force as possible.
It took me longer to get out of the forest than usual because Pelpa forced me to take other paths, either because his size did not allow me to pass through there or because the monsters were around; even so, we managed to get out without finding ourselves in any trouble.

Now it's a long way to the farm, it's already noon, so I have to hurry and then go back to eat.
After walking for 20 minutes, we can see the client's farm; Pelpa seems to recognize the place because he starts making more noise.
As soon as we get a little closer, I hear the loud scream of a child.
PELPAAAAAA!!!!!! OEENNKKKK!!!!!!
Pelpa breaks free of my ropes and runs to where the child is; he looks like a dog who finally meets his owners.
The loud cry caught the attention of the occupants of the hunt, and they ran out to see what happened, but when they observed the scene of a boy with his boar hugging, they started to smile; who wouldn't be happy to see such a scene.
I keep walking and approach the gentleman.
Well, as promised, I found Pelpa.
I say to the farmer who is standing next to his wife at the door.
I really appreciate it; I can't tell you how glad I am that you found him. No problem; in fact, it helped me a lot to do this search.
And I'm not lying; knowing that there's a guy who's using goblin bodies for who knows what made me realize that I need to get strong as soon as possible.
Would you like to stay for dinner? It's an extra thank you for finding Pelpa. Then I'll gladly accept it.
Who can say no to a free meal, especially for someone like me who wants to save money?
I went into the house and sat at the table while I waited for the food and chatted with the boy's father.
Thanks again; I really had no hope that Pelpa would show up since it's been three days, and the forest is not safe for a home animal. But still, I found him, and the boy is happy now. Yes, there are no children around here, so Pelpa is the only friend he has. What's that like? When they turn ten years old, the children go to schools in nearby towns to learn everything necessary for life, and come home only during vacations for 1-2 months, and last year the last two children left. So now only the children under five years old and your son, who is nine years old now, are left, right? That's right, and because of the huge difference, he can't normally play with them, so Pelpa is his friend until he goes to school.
So that's the reason why I haven't seen any children in the village so far, although this information doesn't bring me anything. Still, it's interesting to know.
By the way, can I ask you something, sir? Umm, what is your name?
Ah, my name is Oscar. Ok, Mr Oscar, do you happen to know where I can get a book to help me identify plants of all kinds? Oscar: A book about plants? I'm afraid you won't find it in this town, there are only two ways to get the books, the first one is by direct purchase, but nobody wants to sell the books because they are valuable and the cities collect them to put them in their school libraries, that's the reason why we all agree to send our children to the cities, the second way is by exploring the dungeons. Dungeons? Oscar: You don't know what they are? Well, they are portals that take you to special areas; some are permanent, while others are random and disappear after a while. Is there any difference between permanent and random dungeons besides the time limit? Oscar: Another difference is that the random ones give better rewards than the permanent ones because you can only do them once, and time is not on your side, so many try to complete the 100%, they are like surprise boxes, and you can get either a lot of things or almost nothing, but you always get something.

Dungeons eh? It looks like another way to get quick cash.
What about the difficulty? Oscar: I have no idea, I've never entered one, and I only know what everyone knows. I see.
At that, Oscar's wife lets us know that dinner is ready, excellent, and I can't function on an empty stomach.
After enjoying the meal and chatting a bit, Oscar gives me my silver coin, and I say goodbye to the family; now, I'm on my way to the guild's training camp.
After a long walk, I finally arrived at the Adventurer's Guild.
Good afternoon, I have just completed the quest to find the Woolly Boar. Sure, please follow the procedure
I put my hands back to effectively confirm the mission.
By the way, where is the training camp. In the back, you have to go out and turn around to go in. I understand.
Now I have to head to the training field, and it is just as I thought it would be, a fenced and spacious field divided into three sections with targets, training dummies and an obstacle area.
First, I go to the obstacle area; I plan to train my fitness through a run.
Ok, ready to go!
I stop after 5 minutes of running, I'm short of breath, but I feel alive; at least if I'm in good physical condition, let's see how I feel.

[Dexterity: 5]
[Agility: 7]

[Active Skills: None]
[Passive Skills: None]
[Titles: Herb Seeker Novice]
Indeed, my Stamina has dropped to a miserable 5; time to find out what happens if it drops to 0.
I got up again and, this time, trotted around the obstacle area; within seconds, I felt fatigued, barely felt like I could walk and was short of breath, but I continued for another 10 minutes until the track ended.
.... uff ...... aff .... state

So my Stamina can increase if I exercise enough, that makes sense, but how do I increase HP and MP? I can get an idea with MP, but with HP, I'm not entirely sure; maybe I have to constantly hurt and heal myself?
.....That's dangerous; you're telling me I have to be on the verge of death constantly. No man, no.
Maybe I can increase it with special drinks or food; for now, let's rest a bit and then go to the doll area.
Five minutes later, my Stamina is full, and I head to the dummy area. Fortunately, there are no people today, so it's perfect.
[Wooden sword]
[Description: A sword made of wood that anyone can use, the damage it does is comparable to hitting someone with a chair].
I grab the wooden sword, approach the dummy and start hitting it up and down over and over again; I want to check if I can get a skill by performing an action over and over again.
It's possible that my idea will work; this is based on what happened with the title I got by collecting 300 herbs of the same type in 1 single day; besides, if it doesn't work, at least I will have trained my physique a bit, so it's a WIN-WIN.
I don't need to make big moves as it's an immobile target, so I hit it again and again, the only thing I use is Stamina, but the expenditure is negligible compared to when I was jogging on the obstacle course.
After 3 hours, I still continue doing this movement; it's repetitive and monotonous; in fact, I thought about stopping long ago, but remembering that guy dragging the goblin to who knows where motivates me to continue, no matter where you are, only the strong survive.
So I continued to wave my sword up and down, making the vertical movement become more and more fluid.
After 30 minutes, the pain in my arms was already starting to become unbearable, and I was planning on stopping, as it seemed I was wrong, but as soon as that thought crossed my mind, a notification confirmed otherwise.
[You have learned the active skill Slash]
......EH?
Can you really learn skills if you perform the move over and over again? Wait, let's check this out first.
[Name: Marco Diaz - Adventurer]
[HP: 300/300]
[MP:120/120]
[Stamina: 100/140]
[Strength: 7]
[Dexterity: 6]
[Agility: 7]
[Intelligence: 9]
[Profession: None]
[Active Skills: Slash]
[Passive Skills: None]
[Titles: Herb Seeker Novice]
Not only did I get a new skill, my strength and dexterity increased by 1 point, but my Stamina also increased by 30 points, and hard work paid off.
[Active Skills: Slash].
[Medium Attack Vertical Slashing Technique].
[Can Evolve]
[Cost: 10 MP]
[Cooldown: 10 Seconds].
A cutting technique that consumes 10 MP, it also seems to be a medium-range technique which suits me a lot, and its cooldown is only 10 seconds, but what really catches my attention is the other description [Can Evolve].
It seems that as I improve, so does the skill, or it only evolves when my attributes also improve, with many questions and few answers.
Now that I learned a skill I want to use, my mental fatigue disappears, and excitement takes over me.
I pick up the wooden sword I dropped and prepare myself; in my mind flows the knowledge of the Slash skill and how to use it efficiently.
I raise my sword and bring it down quickly, which creates a kind of blue crescent-like line that leaves a 15-centimetre long wound with a thickness of 1 centimetre on the dummy.
It's a good skill, but I want to test its range, so I take a distance of 5 meters, wait for the cooldown to end and use the Slash skill again.
This time I perform it horizontally to observe the distance; the crescent moon is created again and disappears after a few seconds, so the distance of that blue line is 2 meters.
A good distance, but let's not forget that the important thing is to hit the target with the sword.
Well, that would be all for today, I don't have a ranged weapon or stones to test my aim in the shooting range, and it's already getting dark, so I go back to the inn and pay the ten copper, and by the way, I ask where I can wash my clothes, it turns out that they also have laundry service, so I give them the two pairs of dirty clothes and pay another copper coin for the service.
With the silver coin I earned today and the expenses I made, I now have 331 copper coins.
Today was another productive day, I got money, and learned skills, plus I took the five wooden swords that were in the training camp, so now I have a weapon, many will say I'm miserable, but you know what, they are right.
Hahahaha, I better rest, tomorrow I will go hunting bunny rabbits, even though they are E rank monsters, I have to test my fighting level, you know what they say, he who doesn't risk doesn't win.

8 236Soul Core Online
Soul Core Online was a game that few people were interested in until after it was released, due to its odd way of handling character growth but this soon changed as people started to realise just how different this game was. Unlike many of its predecessors the NPCs in Soul Core Online acted in a way that was indistinguishable from real people and the world felt alive because of this instead of the empty and sterile cities we had come to expect, even walking down the street could give you insights to how these people lived. In my case this was the world that I had always wanted to visit and I soon found myself embroiled in the constantly changing world that is Soul Core Online.
