The first of many prompts that flashed before Lucas’s eyes as he finished his show in the Adventurer’s guild carried some expected, but good news regardless. It was basically the way System chose to confirm to him that he managed to convince people that Rose hadn’t murder Rosenborg’s lieutenant and he was pleased with that, even if he felt some annoyance he hadn’t manage to accuse Rosenborg of the deed. Nevertheless, he had some more announcements to get through and he refocused on them.
“Congratulations! You are now Sword of doom level 55”
“Stat allocation in progress…”
“+5 Agility, +4 Strength, +2 Perception. Two free point”
“Due to title Prodigy, you are awarded another free point”
“Stat allocation completed”
“You fucker, where was that after those blue – skinned assholes or when I had a stand – off with Rosenborg?” Lucas mentally shouted at the System, who remained silent, respecting its long running custom. Despite frustration at seemingly random way System deciding when the time for level up is, Lucas was feeling giddy. Reaching level 55 will net him another skill point and he will probably be able to unlock an additional skill. Finishing all of this, he muttered “Status” and started reading the menu that appeared before him.

His Agility continued spiraling upwards, shooting his stamina into the sky. On the other hand, his mana was seriously lagging behind, a problem he was already familiar with. Speaking of which, there was something he planned to do, inspired by Margaret’s new skill. That and much, much more awaited when he departs Camp Hearth in about week time. He used the waiting time to gauge the willingness of his party, pleasantly surprised to find them eager for some action. They would still need to wait for the election to finish and there was some unfinished business with Rosenborg, but after that there were nothing holding them here. Bruce made a mental note to talk about Bruce today about that after he finished tale encompassing the events today.

Reaching a fork, the party waved goodbye as they split, everybody going their own way. Lucas set his course towards Bruce’s office, with his pace managing to arrive in less than ten minutes. There was a lot he had to discuss with the old Loremaster, especially on the subject of leaving Camp Hearth, wanting to see if there was any task he could run for the settlement while on it. Entering, he spotted Bruce already had guest and he wasn’t surprised to see it was Goldilocks.
“Someone caused quite a show” the spy immediately commented as Lucas closed the door, announcing his presence.
“Was it successful?” Bruce asked.
“According to the System, it was” Lucas said, alluding to his quest completion.
“And initial report that came in place Leon as leading once again” Goldilocks said. Bruce only nodded, looking content. Lucas guess the old Loremaster had a lot to be pleased about, months of hard work proving fruitful.
“Anyways, I’m here for the other reason” Lucas said, drawing quizzical look from Goldilocks and something resembling an understanding look from Bruce “it is time for me to leave Camp Hearth to try and improve myself” Lucas continued. He guessed it was good for Goldilocks to also be involved in planning as she and her spy network were starting to play a massive part in Camp Hearth.
“What are your plans?” Bruce asked.
“Sincerely, I’m tired of wilderness that lay in the west. I’m thinking of going east, towards some of the more civilized parts” Lucas shared his thoughts.
“That there is just one thing there is to do. Map out everything you find, especially civilized places. My colleagues are close on figuring how to make portals so teleportation should be feasible by the time you get back.” Bruce told Lucas, who nodded. Finishing this order of business, there was some small talk before Lucas left and went to his house. There was few days left before the election day that marked the last day of Rosenborg’s invincibility. Soon, that man will leave the land of the living and Lucas would be free to pursue his journey.
The main hall in Adventurer’s guild was heavily decorated, crowd inside it never dispersing, as those who left were quickly replaced by members coming in to vote. Lucas was sitting on the table on the far side of the hall, chatting with his party and waiting. The voting process should end soon and declaration of the winner will ensue. Reports coming in the days past made Lucas extremely comfortable, as every one of those reports painted Rose Leon as the winner, making Rosenborg’s demise infinitely easier. Ted was sharing his enthusiasm, his hands gripping his club hard as he watched the muscular man in the other corner talking to some of his supporters. Rosenborg casted nervous glances in their direction regularly, clearly aware of what was awaiting him.

Hours dragged on, seemingly forever and once the voting was finally closed, Lucas put out a breath of relief. Votes should be counted quickly and the two candidates were starting to move towards the box in the middle, surrounded by people they trusted. The idea was that they will count it together, one controlling the other to prevent any frauds. Lucas watched and waited, quarter of the votes counted in half an hour and then as the hour had passed, a little over the half. Surprisingly, the process wasn’t being dragged out, only minor complaints coming from the Rosenborg side. The man himself seemed more interested in Lucas and his party than actually counting votes. After another half an hour, votes were 90% counted, and that is when Lucas turned towards his party.
“Our time comes soon. Are you ready?” Lucas asked
“Thank you again, all of you” Maggie said while the rest of them nodded their heads.
“Don’t mention it. As I already told you, we have each other backs. Killing blow is still yours” Lucas said and he got up. Rosenborg noticed their movement immediately and noted they were moving towards the entrance to the hall, blocking his exit. As the last of votes were being counted, a smile on Leon’s face betrayed the winner. After counting the last vote, her camp exploded applauding and congratulating Leon as she moved to the center of the hall to give her introductory speech. Meanwhile, Rosenborg, who was a center of Lucas’s attention, was slowly making his way towards the hall exit, ignoring everyone around them. He carefully watched Lucas, Leon voice in the background talking about progress of the guild and unity showed she planned to maintain. Suddenly, Rosenborg stopped and turned towards Rose, drawing his halberd. He charged, his muscular frame pushing people left and right. Panicked shouts started erupting from the room as the crowd started moving out of the way, their shuffling preventing Lucas to get a clear aim to activate “Infused piledriver” to stop the charge. Curses behind him signaled him that Maggie was having same problems and he moved out, joined by Ted.
“If I’m to die today, I’m taking you with me” Rosenborg shouted as he got out of the crowd and started his swing at Leon. Lucas cursed and put a little more speed, no longer gently moving people out of the way. The halberd came down, aimed cleanly at the Leon’s neck, but before it managed to connect, an invisible shield stopped it, the weapon recoiling hard and forcing Rosenborg off balance.
“You think I hadn’t expected this after first attempt? Do you really consider me that stupid?” Rose shouted back at Rosenborg. Lucas arrived at the scene, flanked by Ted who immediately swung his club at the muscular man. Rosenborg managed to block it with his free hand, the crunch signaling Ted’s attack did some damage. He snarled in pain and anger before swinging his halberd, forcing Ted to dodge. He then focused his attention back at Lucas, who simply brought his sword up.
“It’s too late, Rosenborg.” Lucas simply said, getting another furious snarl from the man before arrows lodged themselves in the back of his head. There was a faint look of shock on the Rosenborg’s face before he collapsed to the ground, unmoving. He smiled at Maggie behind him, who returned that smile back. Lucas felt his concentration leaving him as he watched her move back towards the entrance, before voice from behind him brought him back to earth.
“Thank you” Leon said from behind him.
“No worries. Congratulations” Lucas responded back.
They exchange of words lasted for a little bit more, before Lucas excusing himself and finding his party back at the entrance.
“We are finished here. Next, adventure awaits” Lucas said, rest of the party chuckling. Their body language, however, betrayed the same excitement he was feeling about their journey into the unknown.

The Drifting World
In the year 2104, a brand new VRMMO called The Drifting World is released promising realism, adventure, and freedom like no other. Follow Noah as he builds his character Chemistree, a Treant rogue, and uncovers the mysteries of a destroyed virtual world. Expect guilds, dungeons, skills, stats, and, levels as he progresses through the main story of the game and tries to uncover what secrets the game has to hide. Okay, stereotypical introduction over. This is my first time trying to release a story I've written, so feedback is welcome. The premise is nothing special, I just want to do it well. A lot of similar stories I've read make me ask "what kind of game would work like that?" Sometimes believable gameplay elements give way for a more immersive story, but I hope to make that as balanced as possible rather than going for cheap thrills. Well, I guess we will just see how this goes.

Sara's (not really) Fabulous System Armageddon, Book I: The World Ended at Rush Hour
Planet Earth, Monday, October 7th, 2019. 18:30 * * On a fateful day, during rush hour in eastern North America, Heavens and Hell crumbled and fell from their higher dimension on Earth. It came from "above" but not the same above we regard in our tridimensional Euclidean reasoning. No, it came from "above" as in from a higher dimension. Bits and pieces of those places fell on Earth from all directions, this time in tridimensional Euclidean space. Satellites, the ISS, and space debris all were wiped clean from orbit. Even those that didn't crash with the falling debris were knocked off orbit by the shockwaves. On the ground, power distribution lines were disrupted and most power facilities were left abandoned by their dead staff. Most of these had emergency shutdown routines that engaged in a few days. Some others had a survivor among their staff that followed protocol and activated their SCRAM switches, stopping the power plant. Long-distance communication disappeared the internet along with it. The world was plunged into technological darkness. Nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand human beings perished immediately in the pulse of magical energy from the torn spatial boundary. Spirits were rent asunder and vanished, their fate neither salvation nor damnation, only oblivion. The criteria used for this culling was latent magic potential. It didn't discriminate against education, gender, age, or ethnic group. But of the around seven million survivors, most would meet their doom moments later. Those on moving vehicles, like the ones driving on highways suddenly had to contend with high-speed uncontrolled cars and trucks driven by corpses. Trapped in their vehicles and helpless, they became part of the long snake of crushed metal. Very few survived. Those in the air or out in the sea were alone and probably unable to control their rides. Airplanes crashed, and ships kept their course or drifted away, depending on their autopilot. Several ended their own lives in utter despair after seeing their loved ones die in front of them. Another large group would die at the hands of other survivors. Violence and aggression became the norm. Only a few sparse pockets of not-so-sane survivors managed to band together and cooperate for the sake of mutual survival. The sole survivor in a five-over-one apartment building in Georgia, a girl became the keystone to humanity's survival. Sara's fabulous System Apocalypse had just started. She has only one remark. It was anything but fabulous. * * Updates every Wednesday and Sunday. Greys II - Ghosts
There he stood, dark eyes, dark hair, beautiful in the most devastating of ways. It scared me how little he had changed, his hair was longer and black, his frame thinner, like he hadn't eaten since I last saw him. "Hi, angel."His voice was just as dead as his eyes. It sent a shiver up my spine. That was the reason I felt sick, that was the reason he seemed different. He was dead, and as much as I wanted to hate him, I was sad he was empty, sad he wasn't the same man anymore."Hello, Gabriel."My voice came out softer than I would have liked, the words burning my tongue. But it didn't matter, I got the desired effect even if the volume wasn't there. He flinched, his eyes widening, his eyebrows twitching up and together, his jaw setting for just a moment. But then it was gone and he looked away, death settling back in his eyes, in the lines of his face.» ✦ «#2 in Angel Romance#3 in Demonology#11 in Thriller#Mature, 18+ for all the reasons.
