《The American Heist》Baseball and a bottlecap

As Jack and Sarah rounded the corner they stopped in their tracks to watch what appeared to be a warzone in front of them. Fists flying through the air, furniture being picked up and thrown in the air, the sounds of jackpots going off from nearby slot machines and what appeared to be a chicken sitting on top of a stool.
"What on Earth is going on?" Sarah asked as she reached into her back pocket to pull out her blade.
Soon a group of guards quickly surrounds them, all of them pulling out melee weapons.
"Don't know, but it sure does look interesting." Jack said with a smirk. Sarah simply rolled her eyes as she spun around and put her back up against Jack's.
"What's the plan?" Sarah asked as she readied her blade. Jack quickly looks around, noticing that they outnumber them five to one.
"There's more of them, but we're a higher caliber." Jack said as he took a single step back resulting in his back being pressed against Sarah's.
"Be ready to share that blade of yours." Jack said right before one of the guards lunged at him.
Jack had more than enough time to respond to this approach. He quickly ducks which causes the guard to sail over just above Jack and crash into a radio that's hooked up to the floor's speakers which adds more noise to an already loud and chaotic scene.
"Well, we've got a rhythm we can swing too." Sarah said as tightened the grip around the handle on her blade. "Seven" Sarah said loudly, which Jack responded by shouting back with the number five.
Soon everyone is moving, Jack and Sarah push off each other and start engaging with the opponents that are in front of them. Jack watches as two guards lunge at him with coiled arms, thinking quickly Jack ducks down and uppercuts both of them in the groin causing them to fall down.
"Two down, eight to go." Jack thought as he stood up quickly and looked to his side to see another guard holding a baton. Jack rushes over to him and leans back as the guard swings his baton at him. Jack quickly pulls himself back up and headbutt the guards forehead forcing him to stumble back a couple feet.
The guard managed to stay on his feet and lifted one of his hands up to his head to mitigate the blow. Within a moment his hand was back down covered in blood. A grin was growing across the man's face as he stared at Jack.
"Oh come on!" Jack thought as he realized that the guard was not going to make this an easy fight for him. "Sarah! Blade!" Jack yelled as he ducked the punch the guard had thrown. As Jack was recovering back to his feet he heard a gunshot and saw the guard collapse onto the floor.
Standing a couple feet back stood Rob with an empty pistol.
"Down!" Rob yelled as he pulled out one of his revolvers and moved it closer to his hip. Instinctively Jack dropped back down and heard exactly five shots from his revolver.
When Jack stood back up and looked at what had happened, Jack was genuinely impressed. Not many people are able to do a quick draw and dispatch that many people in a quick session.
Jack then gave a look at Rob as if he was saying thanks. Rob returned the gesture with a nod as he holstered his revolver. Sarah on the other hand was upset. "I had that under control!" Sarah yelled as she put her knife back into her holster. Before Rob could respond a voice yelled out at them.

"I said Freeze!" A voice yelled behind the group. Immediately everyone turned to face them, Sarah and Rob put their hands on their respective weapons but froze.
Jack soon noticed why they didn't make any moves. Tyson was approaching the large guard from behind quietly.
"Hands in the air!" The guard yelled and soon everyone had their hands up including Tyson. The guard now has his weapon pointed at Rob but isn't sure who to have it pointed at.
"Sir just walk away." Jack said in a calm but firm voice. The guard quickly changed targets until the end of the barrel was pointed at Jack's head. "Rookie" Jack thought right before he's about to speak again. "This casino doesn't pay you enough." Jack said to keep the guards' attention on him to allow Tyson more time for him to pick up one of the discarded batons.
"Listen to him man, just walk away." Sarah said as she took a step closer but slightly behind Jack.
"Shut up! Get on the ground now!". The guard yelled with authority in his voice. Right as he said that, Tyson was right behind the man, shaking his head all the while holding a baton like a baseball bat. Pointing to the ceiling as if he was saying where he was going to send a homerun.
"Batter up" Jack said with a smirk on his face, the guard confused as to why he would be smiling turned his head to the right just in time to see the baton right in his face. A loud smack could be heard and the huge security guard went crashing to the ground.
With the guard down, everyone gathered around to see the bloodied face of the guard. "We're only missing Yumi now." Jack thought right before he turned to look at Tyson. "What were you aiming for?" Jack asked Tyson in a light humorous tone.
"The jaw." Tyson said in a quiet voice. "Dude threw a steak at me before I could get him." Tyson said as he kicked the downed guard. Jack soon had a smirk growing on his face as he turned to look at Rob.
"We you need to get your girl and get the hell out of here, do you know where she is?" Jack said. Right after Jack asked the question, there's a loud crash that happened right next to them and after the dust settled, there was a massive hole with a black van in place of where the doors would be.
"Yeah, she's right there." Rob said as he looked and saw that Sarah and Jack were laying on the ground with Sarah on top of Jack.
"Awww." Tyson and Rob both said in unison. When Jack saw what happened, he gently pushed Sarah off of himself. "You've gotten heavier, you know that right?" Jack said in an annoyed but friendly tone. Sarah simply responded by kicking Jack in the butt as he was getting back up. Jack turned around with a smile and offered his hand to Sarah to help her up which she accept.
Tyson and Rob giggled as the group turned their attention to the van. As if almost on cue, the back doors swung wide open to show Yumi with a big smile.
"Let's go guys, we need to get to the safehouse." Jack said as he stepped in front of the group with everyone soon following. As everyone climbed into the van, a bullet managed to break one of the rear windows ricochet off something inside the van and music started blasting.

Jack turned to face where the bullet came from and a lone figure was standing in front of the entrance. Everyone inside the van was shuffling their feet to get ready for a fight, but Jack raised his hand and gave a sigh for them to stop.
"Our friend isn't here to fight us." Jack said as he lowered his hand while still staring at the figure, trying to figure out who the person was.
"What do you want?" Jack asked in a firm voice. The figure reached into a back pocket, causing everyone to tense up. Soon the figure's hand was back in view and flicked something into the air.
Jack caught it and looked at the item. It was a bottle cap with the number twenty seven written on top of it. Jack looked back up and saw the figure was staring at him.
Jack simply nodded to the figure and both of them turned around almost synchronized. As Jack climbed into the back of the van and sat across from Tyson. Jack threw his head back and closed his eyes knowing everyone was staring at him wondering what he had received.
"It's personal." Jack said in a calm quiet voice. This caused a shiver to run down Rob's spine.
"Will you tell us about it?" Yumi asked in broken English. Surprising everyone that Yumi was able to speak English.
"Absolutely, just not today." Jack said without emotion. "We've got everyone, let's get to the safehouse." Jack followed up as he put the bottle cap into a pocket
"We've got work to do." Jack said as he collapsed into a seat.
*******
"We're here." Connor said as he motioned Morgan to climb out of the car. As both of them stood next to the car, they marveled at the building.
"Wow." Morgan said as she looked at the building in disbelief.
"The interior is a far cry compared to the outside. If it looks abandoned the better. That's Jack's idea of a safehouse." Connor said as he put his hand out for Morgan to grab.
As they walked up to the safehouse, Connor pushed the door open and was greeted with the sound of a gun being racked.
Both Morgan and Connor let go of each other's hands and pulled out their pistols.
"Who are you?" Kaz's voice echoed as he took a step closer to Connor, keeping his pistol trained on his chest.
"You first, why are you here and who sent you?" Connor said as Morgan is slowly walking around until she's out of his view.
"Kaz and your hairdresser sent me." He said as he turned his body and pulled out another pistol and had them both aimed at the couple.
"Funny." Morgan said as she moved a step closer. "I don't remember sending you." She said in a cold voice. "Answer the question asshole, why are you here?" Morgan commanded.
"A friend of mine blew a hole in my wall and told me to go here." Kaz said as he turned his head to face Morgan.
All of the sudden another gun can be heard being racked and a figure can be seen. Immediately Connor switches his aim to the new threat. The figure can be seen holding two guns trained on both Connor and Kaz
"Now who sent you cutie?" Kaz asked while winking at Morgan.
"We came here because our friend told us to meet here." Morgan said as she looked over at Connor who's getting agitated because of Kaz's choice of words.
"Let me guess, he's a brown haired Casper?" Morgan said.
"Who always takes the most unorthodox approach?" Kaz followed up.
"Has a plan for any and every situation." Connor added to the conversation.
"And was responsible for what happened in Caracuss." John said to finish the conversation
"Jack." Everyone said in unison. With everyone understanding the gravity of the situation, all the pistols were lowered.
"Seems like our friend is pulling all the most wanted criminals for a Job." Connor said as he holstered his pistol.
"Fort Knox?" Morgan asked as she looked around from person to person.
"The gold bullion depository." John added
Everyone turned to face John with a questionable look on their faces.
"I'm here to finance the whole operation." John said as he reached into his pocket to show everyone the green chip.
Kaz and Connor gave each other a look of disbelief before turning their attention back to John.
"You're not that smart are you." Morgan asked, implying the question to be rhetorical.
"Every criminal would kill you in a heartbeat for that." Morgan said. "That chip would change a lot of people's lives if someone were to take it from you." Connor followed up.
"I'm new to this...profession." John said as he put the chip back into his pocket.
Morgan, Connor and Kaz all give each other a look before returning their attention back to John.
"Why are you here?" Connor asked
"Does it matter?" John replied to the question.
Within a quick second, everyone pulled out their pistols and aimed them at John.
"Da, it does. Answer the question." Kaz said with a frown. Still aiming his pistol at John.
"I've got a grudge against someone in the American government, can you respect that?" John said as he put his hands up next to his head.
Connor and Morgan look at each whilst Kaz shakes his head. They all lower their pistols.
"Try anything and I'll tie your burning body to the end of my plane and drop it off at the white house. Clear?" Kaz said with a serious poker face as he stuck his hand out to see if John would agree.
"Clear." John said as he shook Kaz's hand. As they shook, Kaz started to tight his grip around John's hand.
"Hey we're clear!." John yelped. Kaz let go of John's hand while smiling.
"Good. As Jack would say, We've got work to do." Kaz said mockingly as he brushed past John and walked over to a garage door. He punched a hole into a wall and a button was reveled. Kaz pressed it and waited as the door slowly opened to reveal a large room with a wide variety of equipment.
"Welcome to the safehouse." Kaz said as we walked into the room.

The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized

The Girl with Scales and a Sword
This is the story of a girl who ends up with scales and a sword. Yup. There you have it folks. Slice of Life is the key intended genre. This is literally going to be a running commentary of a girls life, especially as it relates to adventure and action This is going to be a continuous work, as I intend it to be a side project while I work on other books more decidedly, and I intend to rework chapters often, because I want this both to be a break from other titles, and a learning experience. I'm going to be trying to get a lot of people to comment on chapters so I can grow as a writer. So if you want to read, please do! and comment if you feel generous. Just keep in mind, releases will likely be veeeeery far apart. (Note: I try to put out a chapter a month, though that doesn't always happen depending on school, work, and generally how well I'm doing, energy-wise)
