《Dungeon of books》The Machine and a Side Character - Chapter 37

Pov - Umbra

Damn, I thought it would take a lot less time than it actually did, mainly because I just recently discovered that Akasha has a form of OCD. She took a generous amount of time to measure everything, then after she did all of that she continued by slowly carving out small yet deep runes. It took ages though because she was unwilling to let even a small part of the creature be uncovered by runes, even the legs were filled by them. Then she asked me to place a layer of that silvery metal overall the runes, covering them all up. Sure, it protects the runes and all but, it made the past few hours feel meaningless even though it was one of the most productive things I have witnessed. Maybe I did call it slow because of how many runes she put in, but it still was technically fast because she took only a minute or two per rune, though I don’t know the average for putting down runes, so there is truly no way to tell if she was slow or fast.

However, before I finished my self-talk about runes and whether Akasha put them down fast or slow, she steps back from the metal sheet that now covers the Rune Golem. For the past 6 or 7 minutes, she has been hammering in a type of nail that I have never seen before to connect the two metals.

“They're done,” Akasha says with a smile on her face, wiping her hands off in a floating ball of water to get all the metal shaved off.

“So, what have you done?” I ask, curious about all the functions of the runes she has been placing and the overall power it can produce.

“It’s mostly simple with some movement options, but I also added several rune magic arrays for defense and offense that can be activated when needed. Now all that is left is to power up the Mana bank within it.” Akasha says proudly, but her true thoughts can be seen when a slight look of being unsatisfied crosses her face.

“Wait, what's a Mana bank?” I ask, confusion swinging around in my tone of voice.

Akasha looks like she’s about to facepalm when she just stops for a few moments and says in a deadpan, “Don’t worry, I got one for it.” After a few moments as she grabs this small colorless orb from space, she continues, “A mana bank is an orb that can absorb mana and store it for mana machines. I thought you already made one, but I’m the one at fault because I ended up forgetting you're so new to this whole thing.”

“It's fine, but let’s just get things rolling. I can’t wait to see this thing's status.” I say forgetting about the transgression and moving on to something far more interesting in my eyes.

“Alright,” Akasha says while just passing an arm through all the metal to place the core at what looks like the center of the spider.

I don’t even wonder how Akasha is passing her hand through the metal, too excited about what the creature is going to be like after this long wait. I stay still waiting for the first movement of the spider-like golem which is to just plainly stand up with no indication that it is on or anything, which is slightly disappointing but overall inconsequential, though it would have been cool if the 8 eyes glowed in an ominous red color. With child-like glee, I open the status of the newly born creature.

Name: *None*

Nature: Magical Machine

[Spider][balance_Type]

Integrity: 100%

Mana Core: 1000/1000

Stats

Arrays

Strength: 150

Rigidity: 150

Agility: 200

Omnidirectional Movement

Multi-layered Elemental Shield

Presence Alteration

Blink

Mana Corrosion

First things first, everything in its status is different from what I expected it to look like. Unlike every other creature, this thing does not even have a level, it’s just plainly a robot with fixed abilities. Although its stats are insanely high and look at all those arrays Akasha added. The weird ones like Blink and Mana Corrosion are not obvious in what they do, but I can take a guess for blink not so much mana corrosion, mostly because I have no idea how mana corrosion would work. For blink, however, it just seems like fast short-range teleportation. But the best way to see how these things work is when they are in action. So I’ll just have to wait for some adventurers to come down here and face it.

I look around to see what Akasha is doing just to find her missing, with the most obvious place for her to be, being the librarian's desk where she had kinda made her spot. So I quickly move my consciousness up to ask her why she went up there, but when I arrive, I can immediately spot why she moved back up. Another person is sitting in a chair right next to her. I slowly move my consciousness closer to eavesdrop on what they're saying to each other, even though I technically don’t have to.

“So who are you?” Akasha says giving a side eye to the other lady.

“I’m a guild representative and this is the comfiest place I could find.” The lady responds, with a look of uninterest plastered on her face.

“So why does that give you the permission to sit at my desk,” Akasha says, a look of annoyance crossing her face for the briefest of seconds.

“The reason is quite simple. This is the access point of the dungeon and by guild mandate, I must be stationed at the closest entrance available, which if you haven’t guessed by now is here.” The lady says in an annoyed tone as if she heard this a thousand times.

“So if I get what you're saying here, you're supposedly allowed to be here by the guild and expect me to abide by it,” Akasha says, this time showing an annoyed face. I also lean closer, ready for a fight.

“Yes, I do expect you to abide by guild mandate because you are not strong enough to go against the guild. So can you now shut up, I'm trying to fall asleep.” the lady says, completely ruining her chances of surviving this short meeting.

Akasha has a face like ‘this bitch’ showing for a few seconds, then changes into an evil smile that would rival some horror movies. “If you need to be so close, then why not just be within the dungeon? Don’t worry, I’ll help you go deeper.” Finishing that, Akasha then quickly taps the lady on the head. The lady in question then just vanishes without a sign of where she could have gone.

So obviously, I go around my Demi-planes looking for the lady. After finding her, I wince, at the situation, she is in. She’s down at the very bottom of the ravine, right at the very edge of it. I didn’t realize this till now, but the darkness down here is impossible to see through, even if she had something that could produce light it would not illuminate anything farther than half a meter away. So the lady has no way of finding the ramp out. But at least luckily for her, the NecroMass is on the other side of the bottom. So she won’t need to worry about death for a while. Actually, I don’t know her level, but I feel like even if she was a higher level than the NecroMass she would still lose, or maybe I’m just arrogant after seeing the bottom of the barrel lose miserably. Well, at least she's taken care of because I’m pretty sure there is no water or food down here just rotting corpses, so she’ll die in no time.

Wait what if she starts to live off the corpses, well at least that will be an interesting sight, it would just be kinda boring if she were to just die off. But she is pretty much a side character, so who knows what will happen, and was she really that important? All I saw her as was a slight annoyance in an otherwise productive day, that's probably what Akasha also saw her as. I hope she’s a bit more interesting than what she appears to be because she appears to be a plain Guild representative with no interesting backstory. But maybe she can evolve into something special after living in the pitch black dark with only corpses to survive off of. Man, I’m starting to sound like a proper evil scientist and it freaks me out ... I’m just going to blame the abyss for this.
