《Dungeon of books》Dungeons Observations - Chapter 18

POV - Umbra
It feels like my non-existence face finally has its mouth closed. I am completely in shock, what type of crazy person did they send? Not only that, but I thought I would have a nice lady or even a formal man be the leader of my dungeon town, not some bipolar elven princess. What the hell is she even yelling about? At first, it was about my location, then about some idiotic Death knight, and what is she even going on about now. Oppressive fathers? I am so confused right now.
I look over towards Akasha just to find her ignoring the scream of the now crying elf. Hey, Akasha, how are you ignoring such a racket? I ask her, trying to do my best to filter the constant screaming and sobbing.
“I have gotten used to it over time. There are always people like ‘get out of our library’ and 'we won’t welcome a terrorist’, worst of all there are people like ’I will slay you for the glory of the kingdom’. They just won't shut up when you meet people like them.” Akasha replies in a monotone voice, Not trying to discover my core book but instead just reading a book from who knows where, though all that running through my head is ‘Who the hell is Akasha? Did I get paired up with the final boss of a hero's quest?’
Okay, I will try my best to get pulled into something. What should I work on, though? I won’t build a new Demi-plane book. How about I try to make some new creatures! I think out to no one, as Akasha has already stopped listening to me.
Several days Later…
So Akasha, I have built a new creature! I think out excitedly towards Akasha. I have spent the last few days working on a new creature, though with all the noise coming from above me, it was a wonder that I was able to do anything.
During this time nothing happened, I expected as the town was being built that there would be some Adventurers coming in but no, there is a policy against doing that. Something about unsupervised Adventurers destroying things they're not supposed to. Though with my ability to now see the sun I have finally realized how long it takes me to make things and what I must tell you is that I’m slower than a damn snail. I would usually be focused on something for the whole duration and not really notice how long I have been working on it, but with all this shouting coming from above me, it just keeps distracting me. This causes me to bring my consciousness to the outside of my dungeon to find a construction crew building and using magic. Side note, I can only travel 100 meters away from my entrance, I’m talking about the wooden door buried in the ground roughly 45 meters or so.

When my consciousness finally comes out of the Demi-plane after what felt like ages but was less than a second. My vision of the library finally clicked, and I saw it all, I also noticed something strange. Akasha was sleeping! Since when does she do that? I have only ever seen her working, reading, and sometimes eating, but never in all my time as Akasha’s partner have I seen Akasha sleep. I always thought that she could just stay awake via something like photosynthesis.
Well shit… What am I going to do now? I thought that construction would have been done by now with magic and such going on. I move my consciousness up to the surface, deciding on watching the builders, to see if I can gain any new ideas or just some entertainment during these trying times.
With my mind now focusing on the builders for the first time, I begin to notice some key things. First off, it looks like there are two camps of builders. One entirely made up of humans and one that is full of humans, dwarfs, these humans like creatures with animal features and half-beast half human-looking things kinda like a werewolf. The one made up entirely of humans seems to have a prejudice towards the other races, even going as far as to ruin the food of the non-humans. Though I can’t find that bipolar elf anywhere.
Should I start trying to find that bipolar elf? I also get a better look at what they have built and what they are building. For example, I am starting to notice that there is a wall set up far away, with me barely being able to see it. This is not some wooden wall, it is a true stone wall. Near the stone wall encircling the area around my dungeon, I find some elves…maybe? I don't know what they are, they have long ears but unlike the elf, I saw previously they have completely white eyes, with no pupils. I also believe that they are the ones setting up runes on the wall, but that is all I can get with the limited rune knowledge I have gained from Akasha.
While flying my consciousness around I catch the sound of two dwarfs chatting, at first I ignore them in favor of trying to find more races that I have not seen before, but something they say catches my interest. “Don’t you feel like we are putting too much work in for something that might not even be profitable?” One of the dwarfs asks the other puzzlement, filling his voice. “I learned about that recently. There have been rumors going around that before we start work on the guildhall and the rest of the main buildings, a team is coming to try to clear the Dungeon and see what resources the guild can get.” The other dwarfs say, while his face becomes serious. “Is that why we have not been working for the past few days and have just set up this wall?” The original dwarf asks again, his face also becoming serious. Suddenly they both start laughing and taking a huge swing of what I think is beer, “At least we still get paid.” They say now, both cheerful.

I hear them both continue to talk about something else, but I am more focused on the fact that I will have fun again. I don’t have to sit bored with Akasha for an eternity. Furthermore, I can’t wait to show them my world as they struggle, weep and even die for rewards. I start laughing, the sheer excitement radiating off of me, I won’t be bored. If Umbra currently had a physical face, they would beagle to see plastered on it a smile with barely contained insanity. Though just as fast as it started it vanished.
I wonder what I should do in the meantime? I know, I will optimize my new creature even more! Though where should I start, there is not much that can be optimized. Well, first I should bring up their status. That reminds me I should look at the other tabs in my menu, but well who cares, it's creature time.
Status
Name: *None*
Level: 1
Race: Slime
F-
Hp: 20/20
Mana:10/10
Hp Regan:
10-35 Per hour
Mana Regan:
1 per hour
Class: none
Title: “Race brought back from Extinction”
“Calamitous Race”
Stats
Skills
Strength: 5
Dexterity: 5
Constitution: 5
Wisdom: 0
Intelligence: -1
Charisma: 1
Absolute Adaptation Lv. Max
Absorption Lv. Max
Huh… What weird titles? It's a slime, so who cares. Let's see here, stats are obviously weak, and their race rank is f- the lowest of the low. It only has two skills. I start to laugh at my pathetic creation, what could I even do to make you stronger. Oh no, the great mighty slime is going to destroy me.
I felt like I made this while drunk, trying to ignore my problems. Well, that is what I tried to do, but I failed, and I can’t get drunk or even eat food. Though really, what should I even try to do towards a slime to enhance their strength? First, I should look at the description of his skills and titles to get a general understanding of how I can play to its strengths… or maybe just shrink his weaknesses.
Skill
Absolute Adaptation
[Passive]
Adapts to any situation with ease
Okay, I get it, I underestimated slimes. I haven't even made one yet. Even if one gets out, it is just a slime in the wild, and it would be easily destroyed by a bigger race. The skill does nothing if it just dies… Right? Enough thinking about things I can’t control.
Skill
Absorption
[Active]
Allows a creature to absorb anything that ends up inside it. Might gain the abilities from other creatures.
Isn't this the copy and paste, the best skill a monster main character gets? Well at least it's dumb as a rock or is it even dumber, I mean look at that intelligence! Wait, what if it is also a lost soul! I haven’t even created the slime yet, so why am I thinking about this. I am not that self-deprecating? Ah, it must be the slime influencing my attitude, I a curse ye abomination. On to the title… I let out a sigh in my mind, at least it only has two skills.
Title
Race brought back from Extinction
[Achievement]
A title given to creatures who have come back from an extinction-level event or were brought back from being extinct.
So they even killed these guys off before. I guess it is from the jealousy over the skills that they possess. Though I am proud of myself, I did bring back an extinct race and all. That even means I am better than those damnable skills… Is it just me, or are my emotions all over the place today? Well, who cares, one final title left to read, and I did save the most interesting for last.
Title
Calamitous Race
[Achievement]
A title given to a race that has brought calamity to multiple planes/planets.
The fuck… Slimes are monsters that brought calamity?! I wonder how they even traveled to other planets and or planes. Do they evolve or do they just gain more intelligence the more they absorb, well whatever? I definitely made a mistake, though. It was probably not a good idea to bring back a race that probably killed multiple planets. So I'm sorry slime you're going into the discard pile, see ya… All right, maybe I'll just summon one. Maybe they weren't strong, they probably either overwhelmed the plants with numbers or maybe they were puppets to something else, who knows. Well here I go, I decided to summon the slime in the laboratory, so It can't eat anything and gain more strength. A laboratory is a place within the plane that is meant to hold my experimental races.

Vendor of Spirits
A warlock once made a pact with the Powers Above. He snuck in a clause that resurrected him whenever he died, with all his memories intact. He lived for thousands of years in a hundred different bodies, changing the world into a dystopian regime where he could freely pursue his passions: alcohol, television and ducks. This made the Powers Above very angry, so they erased his memories and reincarnated him as a simple barmaid in a sleepy village where she could do no harm. I don’t know any of this, of course. I just find it very annoying that she’s chosen me to tag along with.

IROKO - An Elsewhere Naruto Fanfiction
Five years after the Fourth Great Ninja War, in the peaceful Village Hidden in the Leaves, 13-year old Iroko Nakata dreams of surpassing his hero, Naruto Uzumaki, and becoming the ultimate ninja! As he teams up with the eccentric-for-a-sensei Hisao, the quirky Yuura Kairi and the mysterious Asami Senju, Iroko competes with childhood rival Kazue Katsumi in a series of trials and ordeals that come with being a ninja! This is an Elsewhere Naruto fan fiction that focuses on several OCs of my own creation as I seek to expand the world of Naruto and try to create plausible events that would have occurred during the Blank Period and could (maybe) potentially co-exist with the canonical storyline. Disclaimer: I do not own the Naruto franchise or any part of it whatsoever, all rights go to their respective owners. This story is also on Wattpad, AO3, and Webnovel.com **New chapter once every month.

The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized
