《Abominable King》Chapter 139: Broken and Wrathful (II)

The Holy Vatican City had never been directly attacked in its entire history of being. Made just after the fall of Darksol during the Great War more than 1500 years ago by the surviving Heroes of the first summoning, it was a technological marvel that had power beyond the comprehension of most mortals. What it had unleashed from its main square merely a week and a few days ago had caused more unrest and upheaval than either the Confederacy or the Greater Darksol Empire had expected, and now this marvel of magic and machine was ripping itself free from the earth and rock that surrounded it and lifting off into the sky under its own power.
The clergy within this fully operational battle station had realized by now that, while they had eradicated Necrograd and Kain’s wife, they had not erased Kain himself. This was a very, very bad thing, as right now their last remaining holdings still on Terra Firma were being utterly razed to the ground and mangled beyond any semblance of salvation. Kain, the Abominable King, had snapped, and now the last remnants of the Luminas Confederacy were going to pay the price for their transgressions. As the clergy watched with horror, Kain rampaged uncontrollably through their former vassal, the Ititlis Imperial Dominion.
In mere moments, cities were reduced to blasted husks that were utterly devoid of any survivors save for the mad and the dying. What little farmland and pastures that there were in Ititlis were corrupted instantly as he passed over and through them, his mana and aura flooding out of him like a dam had broken, all the while the shockwaves of his passing causing the land to rip apart and scatter to the winds. By the end of the first day of his rampage, Kain had already destroyed the nation of Ititlis several times over. By the end of the second day, Ititlis, or what was left of it, was pock marked with an ever-growing number of ever deeper craters and what little vegetation that remained had long since been corrupted or killed.

On the third day, Kain, or what was left of his mind, turned its wrathful gaze towards the floating city in the sky. With an ungodly and demonic howl, he rushed the battle station and slammed fist first into its shield, causing the flying super church to lurch as it was pushed back by Kain’s punch. The shield held strong, but that seemed to make Kain all the more furious and he let loose a crazed flurry of punches and kicks.
Each time he hit the shield it buckled but did not break and the only tangible signs of anything happening was the mega structure being pushed back with each blow that struck it. Yet, in his blind rage, Kain did not stop even as his gauntlets and boots broke apart and revealed his hands and feet. Even after he had drawn his own blood through his rage against the shield he did not stop hitting and kicking like a man possessed.
Seeing Kain slowly wear himself down gave the clergy an idea. If it was successful, they would finally be rid of the monster before them and the monster they had turned Kevin into. For the briefest of moments, a portion of the shield opened and what once was Kevin, the ‘True Hero’, emerged. Gone was the person he used to be, his rampant racism, misogyny and narcissistic sense of self-importance all wiped away, or at the very least, locked away, and in their place was what The Beast, now known as C’thylla, had been intended to be.
In name he was a Super Hero, or perhaps a Super Soldier, but in reality, all he had become was a Super Slave. His will now entirely subservient to the Church, he was all they could ever want him to be; slavishly obedient, loyal to a fault, incredibly powerful and entirely focused on his mission and nothing else. Kain noticed the new threat and charged, but was pushed back by the now beefed-up Kevin. A fight in the sky broke out with the Vatican Battle Station providing fire support for its champion, which only turned the odds against Kain even more.

As Kevin pushed Kain towards the ground, Kain’s eyes began to clear. Whatever it was that had been under construction inside his mind, whatever new thing that had been built out of the shattered halves of his psyche and soul, was nearly finished coming together. Seemingly sensing this, Kevin and the Battle Station unleashed a dual blast of pure magical power at Kain. The twin beams forced Kain to fly back with them as they impacted the ground where the Vatican City used to be. A massive explosion shattered the earth beneath the flying city and the crater where the Vatican used to be had now grown even larger and was being flooded with water from the Mediterranean Sea.
Minutes passed and Kain did not resurface. An hour passed and the Abominable King still did not show his face. As the mana signature of Kain had seemingly vanished, cheers erupted in the last bastion of the original Luminas Faith. They had done it! Darksol was finished and for good this time! Now they could take this holy citadel and bring the disobedient and fallen nations to heel! Soon, all traces of the evil empire would be gone, and in their place the eternal light of the Goddess Lumina would prevail. No longer would there be a need for other nations, now there need only be a Europa under the guiding light of the Church.
Yes, a great continent-spanning Theocracy would lead the masses into the future, protected by the unbeatable Hero they had created. They could see the light of the Goddess now; so dazzling and full of dignity, ready to lead the sheep of this world into a better, brighter world. As soon as their rule was consolidated, they would begin to spread the faith to places abroad. First, they would have to deal with the demons that dwelled in the desert and the areas around it.
Their existence was almost as abominable as Kain’s had been and needed to be stamped out. As for the foolish humans who supported the devils’ regime? They would be brought to heel and either join the true faith or die in agony, cursing their impudence and learning just what kind of fate awaited the ones who did not bow to the merciful and compassionate Goddess.
As the massive flying city began to float off towards the north, a surge was felt throughout the world. All eyes nearby turned to where Kain had fallen, but his signature still could not be sensed. Then, someone spotted him. Kain, seemingly unharmed, was standing stock still on the shoreline or the crater. He wasn’t dead, but no one could sense any life from him either and he certainly wasn’t undead…
Kevin was ordered to take him out and the super slave rocketed towards the Abominable King with incredible speed. A single punch landed on the malevolent monarch, but seemed to do nothing. Kain’s empty eyes merely moved slightly to look at Kevin without turning his head and, with a sigh, the evil emperor vanished as though he was never there.
Mere moments later, the Vatican Battle Station was sent reeling through the sky as its shields gave out and shattered like a hollow glass sphere dropped from twenty stories up. As the flying city finally corrected itself, a single figure slowly walked down the halls towards where the undisputed leader of the Church sat. Nothing resided in his eyes save for a force that no one on this world could match.
A God had descended.

It all broke apart and either; became new places on the chaotic Earth or part of the even messier spirit world. Magic beasts mutated by radiation, Robots mastering Magic, the mixture of everything made the horrors... well, more horrible. Omega; A young Woman with few memories wakes to find she has spent 2500 years in stasis, in a basement of scientific horrors. Creatures and Things that could supposedly destroy the world if ever let free. Horrors of which she was the last to get free. Rather then Quest for world domination or destruction; Omega keeps getting drawn into a protective role over other orphans, lost monsters, and broken AIs. So she decides to build something to help all her little monster family be safe. -------This story is meant to be a behind the scenes look at stories about kids solving problems that should be beyond them. I always wanted to see a story about Professor Oak, Dumbledore, or any other mentor who trains the main characters. I like the idea of someone looking at the apocalyptic world and deciding to make it safe enough that a small child can wander off and make some monster their pet. The pokemon games have fun systems to consider the behind the scenes workings of, like what training a team rocket member goes through to become a villain cut out for children to defeat. how they prevent a deific pokemon from accidentally murdering some little rat with its immense psionic power. However, the story itself is not really meant to be a pokemon parody, I draw inspiration from every genre of fiction, any type of game, this story is the only one I plan of ever writing without a clear cut ending planned, I love the infinite storytelling capacity of things like Doctor who's TARDIS, the Stargate or Rick's portal gun. In this case, I wanted the setting itself to be one where any and every story might happen. Cover Image by kalli gruen from Pixabay Discord Image by Digital Photo and Design DigiPD.com from Pixabay
