《My power is actually really OP you know》9. Lucky

I think this and this is how how you tend to the children of the Elder things.
I was able to converse with them for a bit, but unlike the adult Elder things, they are... well, screaming, crying children.
The gestalt period would take millions of years in this dimension, thousands in the Elder things dimension, still that mean I only have barely coherent brats to work with.
And boy are they dumb. This is what happened when you take a child out of their normal society and raises them within an inferior civilization. The infant Elder things are dumb, however, their power eclipses the mind of a human. They don't think like human, they can't sympathize with human as they are now, yet that kind of inhuman mindless creatures have power over the weaker human, stringing them like puppet to their every whims. It would only lead to disaster.
Yeah it would get better when they mature, when an Elder things have shed their infancy and enter adulthood, their natural sophisticated mind will take over, and they will realize what they have done. With their superior mind, they could bring a better future sure, but can the world really survive that long?
Just by being in the presence of an Elder things was enough to destroy the soul of a grown adult. These are screaming, crying infant. If the Earth is unlucky, it may have been destroyed by then.
Well, it is only may because it is not like the population of the world cannot fight back. If it comes to it, I'm sure everyone else would manage somehow. Not me though, I have to sit that one out like always.
After I have tend to them successfully, I try to communicate with the children. Perhaps it is their natural instincts to cling on to the voice of their people, but when I spoke, they were receptive. They were brats though, still wanting to bend the world to their liking. A mass of flesh and bone clings to me, I think I will need several days to wash it all out.

"Alright already. Your ride is arriving in a few days, stay quiet until then."
I think I manage to calm them.
Now, how to explain it to the people upstairs...
When I first step up the stair, I stop.
I look back down the stair...
"Brats."
I think I realize why the people seems to become more crazy when they go upstairs then down.
The children are infant. They cling onto to the first adult figure they see like they cling onto me. Going down to take care of them was fine and good...
However, when the adult leaves them, being someone who was abandoned, they could not accept it and cling on to the people's mind and souls.
They are basically lashing out. However, when they lash out, no one could stop them.
And yet when the adult cannot stop them, they realize what they were clinging on was not an adult at all. Something that can easily be played with, isn't it more of a toy? That is the most dangerous aspect of dealing with children.
Who know what will happen to a toy in a careless children hand? Those people will go mad. Their mind will sunder. They may stop existing entirely.
Seeing the children ineffectual attempt at clinging on to my mind, I berate them and just leave. I think they learn their lesson.
The children of the Elder things huddle in the corner after coming into contact with my mind.
Oh well.
My power is actually really OP and only these strange lifeform from another civilization realize it. I don't think they quite know exactly what they are in for, but they should know a bit.
It is good.
When I come up and knock on the door, it seems the nuns were not expecting me.
"Hey I take care of the children. So could you let me out?"
Ansa was looking at me with strange eyes through the keyhole.
"Anja, get the key."
I think that being in close quarter with the Elder things infants did some horrible things to their mind, but deep down, they only wanted to care for the children.

Or perhaps it was a compulsion instilled into them by the children to protect themselves, who know, at least they should be happy that it is taken care of.
"He's the one?"
Ansa too was looking at me with strange eyes. I look at the amulet she is holding in her hand, and it seems her state of mind become worse in the last few days with the things. It is expected, one is a tertiary exposure to the infants of the species. The other is direct exposure to the handicraft of an adult of the species.
I think that from the start, the Elder things give me that to attract these kind of weirdoes. It seems the children of the species instinctively seek out the adult. It seems the ploy was for me to help the Elder things with their children problem. I think I could use the amulet to send a signal to them in a few days. The children will be back with their parents and all will end well.
I hope.
"Finally, we found someone who can take care of the children."
Anja says with contentment.
Wait.
"finally we find someone who can take care of the children'...
Just how many did you send down there?"
"Whee woo. Whee woo."
The police siren hound in the distance. The two nuns, Anja and Ansa was arrested
"Yes officers. It is these two." Mr. Lex was the one who lead the police to the church. The official charge was fraudulent business action under the guise of a religious service. We all know it was a bunch of bull, however, it is unlikely for the two nuns to see the light of days anytime soon.
The number that they gave me was quite large.
Oh boy, after the arrest was over with, Mr. Lex headed my way.
"Hello. It seems you manage to stay out of trouble."
"Yes." I lie.
Mr. Lex was looking at me for a moment before walking away.
"You are a good man, in the future, you should stay away from this church. I can help you find a place to stay if you want, but this place... Believe me when I said this, this is a place of evil.
However, finally everything will return to normal."
The man was looking into the distance, his eyes flashing into another color because he thought no one saw.
"It's alright. My business here is over anyway."
In a distant police van, a woman was muttering in glee.
"The children are fine, they have gone back to their parents. The children are fine, they have gone back to their parents."
The special police officer was looking at them through his rear mirror before turning away. It is no used listening to mad women.
The case of the church on the far side of town has closed.
A few days later, I receive an envelope.
Somehow, it was from the society of the Elder things. How they manage to send that through the post is beyond me. They thank me profoundly for my help and promise compensation in the future. In the envelope, there was something else.
I open it.
It was another envelope.
It seems the two layers envelope were used to hide something special. I open that...
It was another amulet.
Nope. No. No way. I toss it into a river near the bridge I was staying under. They can't fool me again!
A side story.
Later that day, another homeless person picks up some strange jewelry that was thrown into the river. He was going to pawn it off at the pawn shop but change his mind. While he was panhandling in the street, someone throw him a lottery ticket.
"Hey pal, this isn't gonna feed me."
"Just test your luck, who know what would happen." That passerby says.
The homeless old man keeps the ticket, and in the next morning, a local news anchor come to interview him.
"Congratulation, you just won 1 million dollar. How do you feel?"
The old man starts jumping and screaming at the camera.
"This is the luckiest day of my life!"

Natural Alchemist
Will is poor. This is a fact he does not like about himself. Even back at his home village he was considered poor, but poor in the big city means something completely different than poor in a small village... It means ten hour days of hard manual labor with barely enough money to survive, and poor living conditions. He's sick of it, and desperate for change. Perhaps that was what made him decide to spend such a large portion of his savings on a mysterious potion from that beggar... That, and it seemed so special when he held it. But ever since that day, he's been having the strangest dreams... And the work is really starting to take a toll on his body... Author's Note: I wasn't sure which mature content warnings I should put on this novel, as I'm pretty much pantsing the story. I'm putting them there mostly as a percaution, but also to not limit myself as to where the story can go. This is my first time writing and publishing anything substantial. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

It's Hard to be a Hero in a Parallel World
A hero is transported from the real world into a parallel world similar to the video game he's been obsessed with for the past few weeks. The problem is, this game is way too difficult, especially for a nerdy gamer boy to survive. He decides to leave the hero-duty to someone who is actually competent while he looks for a way home. He hopes his knowledge of the game will help him stay out of trouble. Unfortunately, as one would imagine, the normal events of a game would change drastically when the main character is nowhere to be found. Read as the unlikely hero gets into trouble with his new companions, while trying to survive life in this parallel world. This is an original story that takes inspiration from and pokes fun at many novels, video games, anime, and the stereotypes and tropes that appear in those media.
