《The Archdevil's Descent》Chapter 7.

A preteen girl with rosy hair done up into two pigtails by black hairpieces sat in a lavish throne. This was no other than Krul Tepes the 3rd Vampire Progenitor and Queen of Japan.

It has been years since one of her seraphs has escaped. During the past couple of years, she had tried everything to nurture Mika into a full-fledged vampire and a loyal servant, but alas it seems her efforts were in vain.

He still didn't drink human blood… maybe it was her fault, she shouldn't have allowed the kid to drink her blood, in the end the hunger would have won, — she was sure of it. She had pampered him too much. She had a bored expression as she sat on her throne when the double gates opened, and a vampire hastily came before her.

She perked an eyebrow; I wonder if he could alleviate my boredom.

"You may speak." She said while playing with her hair.

"My queen, I have news."

"Do continue." She said dismissively.

"Y- yes… I have news concerning the human resistance camp located in the vicinity."

"Oh? Do tell."

"We heard a commotion, so our observers moved in closer and found the most peculiar sight…"

"What are you waiting for? I don't have all day. Tell me the specific or I will have your head."

The common vampire shuddered under the cold gaze of the 3rd progenitor. She may look like a little girl, but this one was a monster through and through.

"Y- yes… We saw monsters."

"Monsters? You think I care about the horsemen of the apocalypse?"

Her eyes trailed from her fingernails and focused solely on the vampire.

"If that is all, then I hope you've said your prayers." Krul said, as she slowly rose from the throne, and began lazily walking down the stairs.

"M- my Queen, pl- please wait! That's, that is not what I meant! We saw real monsters not those of the horsemen! They had wings; they were like demons but unlike them… th- they were terrifying!"

Kurl froze in place. Impossible. She had personally destroyed every experimental facility, there should be no survival of the seraph project other than her Mika, and that kid who escaped.

"You spoke in plural, implying that there were more than one such monster?"

"Y- yes, my Queen! I received information about three, but there could be more. "

So, it is confirmed, those wretched humans continue to defy her to the very end. They had even resumed their experimentations in goal of pursuing power they cannot possibly control.

"Hmm, who knows about this?"

"Just me, my Queen. I realized that this is sensitive information, and no-one should hear about it, no-one but you, of course. I've already silenced those few who knew about it, I presumed that to be your will."

"You've done well."

"My Queen, I live only to serve." The guard said as he bowed deeply.

"I should reward you. Yes, you most definitely deserve a reward~." Krul' sweet voice trailed off and she disappeared and reappeared next to the solider.

"M- my Que-"

The soldier's head was separated from his torso, as he saw upside-down his own body falling over.

Krul took her place upon the throne once more before calling for the guards to clean up the place.

She would have to think long and hard about the next course of action. If the humans were indeed successful at creating two more seraphs, then she would have to recalibrate her plans about crushing the pitiful last resistance of humans in her district, — Japan.

She called for Mikaela, as she thought about what needs to be done.

Satoru walked down the narrow passage network connecting the children's quarters with the vampire buildings. He was looking around, mapping the place. It was a long-term project of his, after all it was a huge expanse of land, and it was hard on a six-year-old body to traverse on foot.

He passed by an alley and didn't pay attention when he turned to the left… he managed to run into a wall. Young Satoru fell back and hit his butt in the process. He couldn't help but voice his feeling.

"Ouch. Shit, this hurt." Satoru rubbed his butt, as he slowly staggered on his feet… only to come face to face with a bloodsucker. Oh shit. I am royally fucked now, — he thought, as he did his best to make himself as small as possible, maybe the vampire didn't notice?

He glanced up, only to meet the bloodred eyes of the creature of the night, — blue, there were blue orbs staring him down. They weren't filled with malice, but with worry. Did he see it right? He realized he was still standing in the way of the vampire — without saying a world, — it was already a miracle that he wasn't blown away yet.

Satoru got on his best behavior as he took on his apologetic salaryman smile and bowed deeply. This maneuver had saved him countless times before, maybe it could be of use to him now as well.

"Please forgive me! I am very sorry that I bumped into you!" Satoru didn't dare look up, as he waited the pending reply of the vampire. He had been in this world for 6 years now, he knew that the hunters of the night were ruthless creatures who couldn't care less about humans. The best course of action was showing utmost respect, and remorse — the only way for him if he wanted to survive.

Long seconds passed, and Satoru felt his heart beating hard against his ribcage as the vampire silently loomed over him. After what seemed like an eternity the vampire spoke.

"What are you waiting for?"

Satoru straightened up, looking at the vampire not comprehending what he was hinting at.

"Won't you run away?"

Satoru's mind blacked out as the obvious came to him. Ah, of course… every child ran away when they were confronted by a vampire… well those who were allowed to. Most were sucked dry, though from his understanding it was prohibited to drink directly from the children, it didn't seem to stop the frustrated guards to find an excuse to punish the kids, then proceed to claim killing them was an accident. To Satoru's frustration it worked most of the time.

"…"

"Still not running, even though I am a monster."

Wait what? What was this guard talking about? — Satoru's mind was thrown into disarray as he tried to make sense of what was going on. A vampire with remorse, with conscience? This was new, he had all but ruled out the possibility, but maybe… maybe he could help him. Though, it was best not to jump into conclusions, he would have to test the vampire's trustworthiness.

"I know you won't hurt me, so there is no reason for me to run away." Satoru said boldly, as he mustered up a naïve and innocent voice.

The vampire let out a sigh before kneeling, coming face to face with Satoru.

"What is your name? "

"I am Suzuki Satoru, nice to make your acquaintance, but please call me Sato."

The vampire seemed to be taken aback, but the shock promptly disappeared from his face.

"Sato, it has a nice ring to it, I like it. Now then, you shouldn't be out so late; come I will escort you to your home."

Satoru's suspicion was confirmed. This bloodsucker really cared for children. How weird. Then again, he could be a talented deceiver, but he didn't get that feeling… in his years as a salaryman he had developed a sense for this, you could call it a 6th sense if you will.

As they walked down the passage leading to his home, curiosity tugged at him, and in the end he asked.

"Umm..."

"What is it?"

"How may I call you?"

The vampire froze in place for a moment before answering — his voice soaked in sadness.

"You may call me… Mika."

"Mika it is then, it was nice meeting you, Mika!" Satoru said in a cheerful tone, before pressing down the door handle, and entering his home, totally oblivious to the avalanche those words would cause.
