《Holders》010: A Pyro Menace

A great lapse of time occurred as a new day emerges onto the surface, omitting the past events from the past day. Through the windows of the classroom, Rine was present at the middle of noon; glance quietly at the sky.
The setting hasn't changed at all; Not much of a radical change, as all things stayed typical from their perspectives. But since then, the guy by the name of Ryuunosuke Hasegawa have never been seen again, nor of his whereabouts were confirmed by the staff. Though, Mr. Hamada told his advisory that his parents came into school the last day hence claimed to transfer their child into another school. But only the witnesses of the previous rumble knew the truth behind, thus his seat was emptied.
Clusters started to form at the front door, having discussions regarding that matter. Yet he never batted an eye, and kept himself silent all the time.
Soon as he rise up from the chair, a moving guise was seen rushing by the corner of his eye.
The vaguely seen entity called before him in a feminin voice. "Rin!!!" and so grabbed his hand which immediately alarmed him to a surprise.
"Wah--"He was slightly astonished as she shifted his gaze. "Ah please, Don't startle me like that."
"---Ohh... Looks like I got you shocked huh." she grins smugly. "You drank a lot of coffee a while ago, don't you?"
Still amidst of the shock, Rine replied. "Ehhh? But don't drink coffee, you know?"
"---Ah. Is that so? My bad my bad." she smiled; embarassed.
Outside the doors was another girl came rushing in. Unlike Reika, she is hardly catching her breath as if she is chasing someone.
"Ugh. Reika, How can you managed to run that fast? Huff..." the same tan girl from before spoke behind her.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry! Just came back I forgot something." Reika replied.
"---What? Did you forgot your wallet again???"
"No. I took my wallet before leaving."
The girl was hung clueless. "Then what is it this time?"
By the time she said so, Reika was about pulled Rine towards her, and so ended up wrapping her arms into his wrist as she smirk. "I'm sorry. I forgot him on my way."
The same girl suddenly got dumbstruck. "H-Huh!?"
On the other hand, the young man remained in a puzzled state
"Ehehe" he softly chuckled.
Still dumbstruck, she pulled Reika out of his arms, taking her on the far side of the room.
The girl directed her lips onto Reika's ear. "Hey, What's the meaning of this??? You told me that you like Ryuunosuke last time, but you never said that you also had your eyes on Rine."
Staying it low, Reika muttered curiously. "Wait, When did I said I like Ryuunosuke before---" However, her lips stopped halfway, and so omitted. "Ah-- Nevermind, nevermind. But I never said about liking that guy at all."
The girl touched her chin. "---Hm. If you insist..." then crossed her arms. "And what about him?"
Reika flusteredly looked down. "---Him, you say... Well..."
Therefore, from its obvious look, the tan girl slapped Reika's shoulders to snap her out, henceforth confirmed another big secret.
A total smug arose from her presence. "I thought so..." then shouted with all of her breath. "SO YOU DO LIKE HIM HUH!!"
Her blaring voice reached resounded into the whole room, drawing the attention of all the students with Rine struck deeply from the said words.
Even so, he aimlessly reached his hand from the two with an extremely bewildered look.

"H-Hey..." he said. "I'm kinda curious from what you two're discussing about..."
Meanwhile on a near distance, Reika covered her face as it turns utterly discomposed due to the sudden scream. Yet, hiding her expression isn't enough, thus her hands unconsciously grabbed Rine until they pressed their bodies against each other.
Embracing him tightly, audible bawls generated from Reika's lips as she hides her face from Rine's trunk.
"Rin... Akari's teasing me too harsh. Akari's a meanie!" she fakingly weeped.
"Ehhh? But isn't that true??" she defended. "Just Look at yourself on how tight your cuddles for him. Hahaha!"
Reika squirmed. "--Eek! Stop that! This is why I don't want to vent up my thoughts on you."
Being consequently bursting in laughter, the girl couldn't keep her cool, thus laughed and laughed until her fun expires.
Wiping off her tears due to the massive cackle, she appears to be satisfied after seeing at Reika's reaction.
The girl is convulsing while supressing her titters "Haha. Fine, Fine. I'll stop for now."
Being stuck between assessing the situations each by each, Rine is unable to set things aside. His mind spun due to the extreme complication as he tapped both of them.
"H-Hey, You two're... Already finished?" he said; confused.
Reika, residing on his stead sunk flustered. "Y-Yeah Yeah Yeah! But please let's go eat now. I got kinda hungry after that small talk, hehe..."
Invited and was at the middle of being a pushover, the bewildered young man halfheartedly agreed, then so proceeded with the two ladies onto the canteen.
Unfortunately, by the time they reach the glass doors, finding a spot became diffucult due to a mass number of students occupying the whole vicinity. Most of the tables are already taken by various circles of peoples and couples, which made it a lot more harder for them to reach one.
Amidst of confusion, A lone table finally appeared before their eyes.
Reika was able too see the thing as she pointed, "Look at there."
Soon enough to reach the table, they rushed forward against the crowd regardless. It took a lot of steps before they manage to drop their trays above it, but it is worth successful for the day.
All three of them sighed. "Phew" then dug a small scoop as it satisfies their hunger with a delighted smile on their faces, little do they know, that is occupied not long ago.
Stepping in at the middle of the trio, a tall-looking fellow slammed the table with his left hand.
An angsty tone vibrated from his throat. "Oi Oi Oi, were you three blind or something?"
The tan girl at the middle of the two fought back. "Huh!? What's your business here---" but her voice gradually lowered the time she gaze directly at the guy's face.
A loud squeak boomed. "E...Eeeeek!"
Unanticipated by none, it appears to be Matsuo standing before them.
The girl suddenly fell back behind Reika's arms.
"Reikaa!" she screamed. "Please tell your brother I didn't mean to say all of that!"
Reika replied. "Ehh? Its not like he's ready to beat up anyone all the time though."
"---But he looks scary on a closeup!"
She then sighed; lukewarm. "Hah..."
Meanwhile, Outside of their circle was Rine having his meal. He remained silent all the time inspite aware of the things happening in. Though, as the other three noticed him, a long moment of awkward pause occured amidst the company.
Rine was clueless while drinking the soup out of the bowl.

"What? You want some?" he offered generously.
They, then looked away; unrefined.
Soon, as time progress by, Matsuo didn't had a choice, hence join their feast despite being the first occupant of the same table.
After finishing his meal, Rine engaged firstly into a chat.
"Hm. To think of it, haven't I you the same girl with Rei before?" he asked, referring to the tan lady beside him.
She then, nodded in agreement "Oh. You mean like last Friday? Well, yes I am."
The girl continued. "By the way, I am Akari Kageyama, Reika's best friend!" she said cheerfully"Nice to finally talk to you, Ishida!"
Rine suddenly uncertainly asked Reika on the other side of the table. "Wait, a best friend? Wasn't that supposed to be me, Rei?"
Akari also meddled. "No! It should be me! You can't be her best friend because you are supposed to be her boyfrie--"
However in between, Akari stopped midway as Reika shouted "Stop that!" as she blushes profusely.
Akari, on the other hand bursted laughter after seeing her flustered face. "Hahaha! Such a cute expression right there eh!"
"Nghh! Stop teasing that already!"
Matsuo on Akari's left bummed. "Well, considering that you always kiss his newly taken photo every night---"
But then got halted by Reika with a yell.
Though being aware that his angsty composure is just a part of an act to retain his public image as a feared delinquent, Matsuo wasn't able to hold his sniggers and so turned back to let it out for just a bit.
Soon, as thoughts overload inside her mind, Reika felt very discomforted from the other two. Despite laughing internally, they couldn't hold up those feelings that long enough. It was obvious enough for one to notice, but on the contrary, Rine remained discomposed and baffled from everything.
Then soon enough as everyone finished their meals, going back to their respective rooms are expected to be next thing.
Halfway onto the halls, the three underclassmen waved goodbye to the grumpy-looking delinquent. On the other hand, Matsuo went forward without giving farewells on the three. Though, they smiled as they already knew the reasons why.
Upon reaching the 3rd Year's classroom, a whisper of wind circles abode. It is completely deserted by the time being and none heed their calls even from the residing class beside theirs.
After dropping their bags on their desks, Rine inspected the whole area each.
He held his chin with a question in his head. "Weird. Why does all of the people vanished all of a sudden??"
Akari by the windows, gazed out. "Hey guys, Look below." she called. "It seems a mass gathering is down there."
Rine and Reika immediately checked the windows, only seeing the whole campus piled up each sections. Everyone was looking above the roof of the building, However that part is already out of coverage for their visions since the object of the eye is above them, hence they have to go downstairs.
Taking three floors in a rush, Matsuo happened to pass by the three.
He asked. "Hey, the fuck is happening? The building's abandoned."
Rine then replied. "We don't know either, but it seems everyone is on the campus for an urgent call."
"---Call? If that's a call, weren't they suppose to make an announcement first?"
"Well, you have a good point there..." Reika answered "Anyway, we should hurry now. We're gonna be late for the thing."
And so after saying so, they took the path downstairs and left the building as quick as possible.
As they arrive outside, the restrictions of their visions above have gone much clearer. Clusters of different circles started forming amidst the crowd of sheer audience as the object of the eye remains steady from the tip of the roof.
The guise soon leaped onto the thin Pole with his two legs propelled into the small platform. Its posture was from a human, but the identity is vague to see due to the distance.
The staffs yelled. "Hey you! What are you doing up there?? It is dangerous if you stay longer above, so please go down safely as you could!"
Amidst the buzzes, the person spoke lowered; but dismayed. "Ugh... These Vermins are so noisy."
Getting closer enough, as if a surging torrent struck their senses in a jiffy. Three of the four youths froze solid after sensing its power which turns out to be coming from the same guy above the pole.
As seconds ticks, more and more people began to display overhead. Everything regards to their appearance was covered by a clear white-mask and robes of the same tint of color. None of the skins were exposed before themselves.
However, the guy above the wore a different type of clothing. The cape on attach onto his shoulders wave just as the direction of wind goes. His face weren't obscured at all, but instead showed the leering displeasure on his face with his Scarlet-colored hair remains steady to cover his left eye with long bangs.
As he holds the grip of his blade, a small vial was thrown midair. And at the exact moment of time, it is cut half, thus a chaotic monstrosity appeared before the crowd.
A Huge bird which wings are embers screech before flew high up into the sky with its blazing claws and feathers set ablaze. It is enraged enough after seeing the humans beneath its vicinity and so released a deafening screech.
"Kraaaa!"
All of them felt their ears about to bleed as a massive panic attacks them all. Though, the screech alone is able to lead a normal person down unconscious which also took effect after seconds of exposure from the blaring sound.
All of the people fainted instantly onto the ground, regardless of the four behind them. However, still overwhelmed by the creature, they remained steady in their spots.
The red-haired guy smirked. "Oh my, I guess these four are truly impressive. I should commend you for struggling hard." then chuckled. "But I guess that's the last thing you can do after all."
Pointing out his unsheathed blade, the summoned entity followed its lead to crush the four.
Suddenly amidst, Akari snapped out of the stun then rushed blocking towards the monster doubtless.
"Watch out!!!"
And so with all of its might, the unstoppable creature crashed deeply beneath the ground. It is a direct from both viewpoints of the other sides, as thick smoke scatters around the vicinity of their eyes.
The guy, then slowly sheathed his blade back. "Already over huh..."
At the middle of the obscurity, the burning wings of the monster flapped back and dispersed the fumes away. Thought by the moment he looked back, Akari's whereabouts disappeared no trace. In the same moment of pause, A rain of smoldering stones fired back against the monster's body. And standing in a shuddering Pillars of Pure Stone, Akari leaps forward towards the entity as small substances of rocks augmented her foot, thus resulted into inflicting a solid damage against the Bird's Head.
Tumbling back at mid air, she landed smoothly onto the ground. "Stop spacing out and run!"
As the beast has fallen, the four took the slim opportunity to escape the menace by the alleyway behind the school's walls.
The redhead let out a demonic grin. "Like I'd let you!"
Meanwhile, Climbing on the other side of the wall was successful for the group as they distance themselves away.
Rine, on the other hand was still unconscious about everything, but kept running the whole time.
"Just Who are those people!?" Reika asked in panic."
Reika then replied. "I'll tell you everything later. But firstly, we have to hide---"
Her voice stopped halfway, and so everyone's movements halted as an guise ablaze landed before their eyes. "Nah Nah, No running away~" henceforth, a long sword nearly struck Rine's chest.
Lucky enough to save him in time, Akari parried the blade by an immediate rise of ground beneath the concretes of the road.
Rine enwidened his eyes. "The ground... It can't be..."
Blocking their fronts, hence creating another path, Akari lead the other way with as soils and rocks formed before her foot which became their escape route. Though not for too long, the anonymous caught up just seconds as it chases them whole breaking the foundations of the passage.
"This is bad!" Reika hardly gasped. "Why is he in here?"
As curiosity builds up, Rine looked shifted his gaze at her. "He? You know him?"
But moments later, their foothold reached the high ground. People below started running for their lives as the conscious flame is after their stead. Charging unapprehendable, those flames that covers him grazed the glasses to shatter as it leaves.
Midway towards a deserted spot, ahead of them was a company from the enemy's side, ready to ambush at any time. And so by that, Matsuo jumped off the platforms, thus rushed first.
Meanwhile after his ejection, the three got blown away by a forceful explosion behind them. Due to that, the footpath beneath them quake and deformed to pieces, and resulted a free fall.
Amidst the Gravitational pressure pulling them fast down the ground, Akari raised her arm, therefore created a lump of soil as they managed to drop unscathed from the debris.
Seeing them ahead; refraining to run, His body that was set ablaze gradually distinguished the fires covering his presence as if he commands it with his own will.
He unsheated his blade with a grin. "That's quite a thrilling chase. It makes me more energized to severe your head off."
Scanning each part of every individual, he was able to sense their Manas just from a single look. However, by the time he looks at Rine's aura, a mixture of astonishment, dismay, and a clueless look drew his expression by surprise.
His softened his grip from the blade and felt very dishonored.
Then gritted his teeth. "Are you serious?? This guy has no mana!" he said. "I've been played all along just to kill a damn normal brat!?"
Rine in between two ladies stands up from sitting onto the ground. Having his clothes soiled by the dusts, he sweeps it off.
"Just who are you? What is your objective?" he shouted. "Please stop this at once!"
The enemy idled. "Oh Yeah. An Objective huh. Well, I do not really know what issues you have with an Upper Echelon and he cannot kill by himself, but I only had one thing to do now... " then soon casts out his single blade. "And it is to eliminate you, Rine Ishida!"
Amidst of the pressure, another defeaning screech diminished their ears. Cinders began raining above them alongside a powerful exertion of a scorching winds as the flying monster's presence and went on his side.
And so he pointed the blade against the three.
"Brace yourself! In behalf of the 12th, I, Kazuto Suzumoto will turn you to ashes, mere commoner!"
Swaying the blade as fast like cutting ethers, he sauntered a small distance between them. And with his brows folded in disdain, sundering flames formed within his blades, hence the battle horn's roar resounded amidst.

Dominion Expansion (a 4X LitRPG)
Clay is one of the world's top players of 4X games, a genre where the goal is to eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate. He's also one of the only players in the world to so stubbornly stick to the one city strategy, a favorite tactic of his that involves only ever using a single city or planet depending on the game's setting. All that matters to him is winning with his favorite strategy, but earning the respect of his fellow players for taking a sub-optimal strategy to its highest level has always been a nice bonus. And now it is because of his skill and entertaining determination that he has been chosen to represent a higher realm in a strategy game where the fate of Earth and dozens of other worlds are at stake. To the victor goes the spoils, and the spoils include entire worlds and billions of lives. That's how he ends up representing the ascended realm of Hell in a grand "game" between an entire pantheon of godly beings and other higher powers. But while it may just be a game to those overseeing it, it is a genuine war for survival to those participating in it where billions of real lives will go to the victor of whoever wins, and many will die before the game is over. Quick Author's Notes: System inspired by Civilization, Endless Legend, Stellaris, and Crusader Kings 2. Combat mechanics inspired by the Total War series. Slow-paced with many long-term plans. Protagonist has a personality heavily inspired by Ron Swanson. Know who that is and love him? You should like Clay. Know who Ron Swanson is and hate him? You'll probably hate Clay. Planning on writing every single day (turn). Days with important things happening will have the system/game mechanics be the priority of the chapter. Days where there isn't really anything important happening will be more slice-of-life and focused on character interactions. Designed a dice-based randomized map generator to create the world as the story goes on, so I don't even know myself exactly what's going to happen as a lot is dependent on world generation. Tech tree with hundreds of technologies already designed. There is a "harem," but it's not the main focus, the girls won't be cardboard cutouts, and I'm not going to completely forget about any previous women in the relationship whenever a new one comes along. One last thing. The "game" starts off with primitive technology level. The current plan is for the "endgame" tech level to be equivilent to WW2-era technology. After that and war just gets boring until you end up in space. Cover is temporary and made from royalty-free stock images while waiting for the real cover's commission to finish.
