Volume 2 Chapter 3: Part 3: Fight!
After hearing the scream, the two halt their movements. Before Onyx and Oliver can look at who said this, two pillars of water came down on them!
The expressions on their faces show how shocked they are. The two turn to see Madelyn with a scowl.
"Madelyn! What was that for?!" Oliver screams out. How could she get in the way of their fight? It was just getting good too! But that anger quickly gets thrown out the window as the scowling expression turns into a demonic.
Oliver instantly clams up.
Onyx doesn't say anything either. His lips are shut tight. Never did he expect Madelyn to make a face like that.
"Do you know how much damage you guys did? Look around." Her voice's calm as ice, hiding her rage.
Onyx and Oliver look around and what they see is a bloodbath! The ground wasn't flat but turned into rubble. Etchings of Oliver's smashes are ingrained into the floor.
For Onyx, crack marks on the ground show off the forces of his slashes.
"And look at what you guys did to Galven!" Madelyn then points towards Galven. Well, what's left of him? When Oliver flicked him aside, Galven's body turned into a spear, smashing into the wall!
Not only did his body get smashed into the wall, but only the lower half of his body was shown.
The rest is in the wall.
"I know he deserved that. But look at rest." Really deserved it. Even Madelyn cracked a grin seeing how Galven got treated like a ragdoll.
But she knows there is more to worry about than him. She points towards the crowd.
What the two saw was that everybody moved away from the front row. The people had taken a step back so they wouldn't get hit by the debris.
Oh. Now Onyx and Oliver realize they have taken it too far. But Madelyn isn't done as she continues,
"Guild master! How can you fight with a rookie?! Do you even know what your position is?!" He's the guild master! Anybody can tell that this battle was just unfair. What's more, it was a lose-lose situation for him.
Losing against Onyx meant the guild master just lost to a rookie. This will just put shame on the guild as a whole. And winning is just as bad. That would be seen as bullying, tarnishing his name.
"Well, you see-" Oliver is going to say something to get out of this situation. But Madelyn won't give him the chance to do it.
"You're not getting away from this! You have caused too much trouble!" Madelyn begins to rage at the two. Well, only one. Onyx was just forced into a kneeling position because of the pressure emitting from her.
Like should I go or something? Onyx wanted to leave. Yet, he couldn't. Not unless he wants to be caught up in the crossfire. He sat there, listening to Madelyn's rant about what Oliver did wrong.
Seeing how the fight is over, most of the crowd decides to leave the arena. Only a few stay behind. Reynold, Lyle, and a few others laugh at the sight,
"Haha, suck it, you old geezer!" "What's that about getting revenge on us?!"
Stewart shakes his head at the two, "Are you guys really going to say that to the guild master?"
Lyle waves Stewart off, "Don't worry about it, you stickler. The old geezer is locked up by Madelyn. So we're fine."
"Yeah! He got nothing on us!" Reynold adds on. Seeing how carefree the two acted as they teased Oliver, Stewart shrugged his shoulders.

Not my funeral.
He isn't going to say anything. But then Clare adds,
"Did you guys forget the guild master can chase after you two once he gets out of there?"
"...." Reynold and Lyle freeze. It's like the world came crashing down onto the two. And instantly, the two look down at Oliver. Pure evil. Just the look on Oliver's face says it all.
And he mouths slowly.
You guys are dead. He saw everything the two did.
It didn't matter how long he got lectured. He just knows what he's going to do when he gets out.
What they did is so blatant.
The expression on Lyle's face just dropped, and Reynold fell to his knees!
Oh god. No!
Reynold quickly grabs Stewart's leg, "Captain, help me!"
"Hey! Get off my legs. And this is your own fault. I told you to stop, didn't I?" You poked the bear.
Why should I jump into that and help you?
I'm not a mad man.
...
"Alright, Madelyn. I think you should stop now. Look at how the guild master is convulsing." A guild receptionist says with a wry face. Oliver's face has turned blue from the constant lectures.
Even while they walk back to the guild hall, he's getting scolded by not only Madelyn; but the other guild employees. What Oliver offered is something they can't let go of.
"Fine. But this is not going to be the last of it." Madelyn realizes everybody's looking at her like some kind of monster. After the other employees finished lecturing, it's Madelyn's turn again.
That woman lectured the guild master to the point of convulsing! But she ignores and turns toward Onyx,
"Sorry about what has happened today. We will properly compensate you for what the guild master did."
Wow, you changed quickly. The demon-like expression Madelyn had before was nowhere to be found. Instead, an apologetic one replaced it. Onyx couldn't believe it. But he quickly responds,
"You don't have to worry about it. It was my fault for getting caught up in it and continuing the fight. Luckily, nobody was injured." That's a lie. Onyx's body is covered by his cloak. It's hiding his shaking hands.
Even after they left, his arms still shook from the shock they received.
But then Onyx asks her, "So what rank will I be getting?" Besides fighting with Oliver, he did beat Galven. And it's a clean KO too. So he should be getting a high rank.
"We'll be giving you your ranking tomorrow. Is that fine with you?"
Ranks are given out when they discuss it. What's more, the guild master has to be the one to approve it. But looking at the deadpan Oliver, it seems he won't be able to give it out anytime soon.
Onyx nods, "I understand." He can't do anything about it. But then he asks, "Then is it possible for me to sell my demon crystals still?" With how much he's been fighting in that forest, the number of crystals he stockpiled is a lot.
It's annoying to carry it around.
"Of course, you can sell your demon crystals here. Also, we will give you an extra 50 percent for the trouble we caused." The person who said this is none other than Oliver.
He regains consciousness and wipes the foam off his mouth.
Stop making decisions like this?! Madelyn's expression turns dark when she hears that, and the other guild employees just sigh in exhaustion.
Madelyn doesn't say anything but gives him a disapproving glare. However, it is ok. Given how much trouble, giving him proper compensation is ok.

"Madelyn, please count the demon crystal he brought."
"Understood." Once the two have gone to the counter, Onyx takes his duffle bag and begins to shake out the demon crystals out of his bag.
"..." And the moment he did, pure silence came from everybody again.
"What's wrong?" Onyx tilts his head. But the adventurers shake their heads. Nothing. Nothing is wrong.
Stewart slaps himself in the head when he sees Onyx's confused face. I knew it. He brought all of it with him today.
The number of demon crystals Onyx brought with him was a lot. What's more, most of the demon crystals are clear.
"Aren't those crystals high quality?"
"Where did he even get those?!"
"Did he fight a dragon or something?!"
"My question is how much money he will get from all of that."
"Hey." Lyle taps onto Stewart's shoulders. He frowns,
"What do you want?"
"So, where did the kid even get those crystals?" Even Lyle's mouth gaped open when he saw all those crystals. Just getting one high-quality one with his group is enough hassle.
"Even if I say it, you wouldn't believe me." Stewart makes a wry smile. Going through the forest of death is something nobody would do. No less from a fifteen-year-old kid.
While the adventurers look at him in shock, the person who's the most shocked by this is Madelyn! She has seen many demon crystals for a while now. Even without an appraisal tool, she can tell some are high quality.
Like one would go around a couple of gold coins!
"How much am I going to get for all of this?" Onyx tilts his head. Madelyn has been staring at the crystals for a while now.
"Give me a second." Madelyn takes out glasses and begins to appraise the demon crystals.
"You have a total of 10 high-class crystals, 15 middle-class crystals, and 5 low-class crystals. Everything total is around 2 platinum coins and 6 gold coins. Plus, the 50 percent increase guild master said; that makes it around 3 platinum and 3 gold coins."
The moment Madelyn says that, the adventurers just shut up. What in the world?! The guy just got rich instantly!
A couple of bronze coins would be enough for regular adventurers to go by. A platinum coin is enough to live a good, well-off life for a long time.
"That's enough to buy our base and then some." Stewart gives a wry laugh. It took his party 2 years to buy their base. Yet, Onyx got even more than that in just a few seconds.
Even Onyx was shocked by the amount he got. Never did he get so much money in the palm of his hand. But then he realizes something else,
"I've also got some herbs as well. Can these be sold here as well?"
"Yes, they can," Madelyn says with a smile. And then, another explosion of surprise came slapping down on their faces.
"Isn't that a riverlily lotus?! That's a jeweled apple! There's even a striped pear!"
"My god!"
"Where did this guy get all these high-class herbs and foods!"
"Alright then. Let me process all of these for you." Madelyn says as she analyzes the herbs. Oliver smacks Onyx's back,
"Kid, where did you get all these high-class materials? Did you go through the forest of death or something?" He knows these materials. That's because he would get these materials himself.
But never did he expect Onyx himself to bring all of this together!
Even he would find it a hassle.
And Oliver hits a bullseye. Onyx looks away, not wanting to look at Oliver. Oliver's eyes went wide,
"You actually went through the center of the forest? Are you stupid?" Even Oliver wouldn't go through the center. Not unless he wanted something from there.
"I didn't know there was another path. I was told this after I got across." Onyx's face is deadpan as he says this. Like he just aged a few years.
"That monster didn't tell you anything, did he?" Onyx nods. Seeing this, Oliver pats him on the shoulders and gives him the same deadpan expression. He understood Onyx's pain.
The pain of being duped by Vargar.
"Alright, I'm done. You will get an extra 5 platinum coins from the herbs and materials. So it's 7 platinum coins and 5 gold coins. In total: that'll be 10 platinum and 8 gold coins."
"Wait! 10 platinum coins? Is it just me, or is that over the budget right now?" Oliver feels he heard something wrong. 4 platinum coins were enough for the guild to handle.
However, 10 platinum coins broke the budget.
"That's why the guild master will be paying the extra," Madelyn says with a bright smile.
"What! When was this?!" Oliver's face turns blank when he hears that. When did he say he was going to be the one paying?!
"Since you were the one who suggested this, it's natural you should be the one to pay it out of your pockets." The happiest grin forms on Madelyn's face. But her eyes aren't smiling at all. They're saying,
This is all your fault.
".....Understoo- Wait!" Oliver knew he dug himself a grave. But it's time to dig himself out,
"Onyx, how about you sell those materials at the auction house instead?"
"Auction house?"
"Yeah. You can auction off all your herbs and materials there. You will get a lot more selling it off there."
"I see. Then can you hold it for me then?"
"Don't worry about it. I got you." Oliver wipes the sweat off his forehead. With that, he dodges the bullet. And now, there's something he had to do,
"Oh, Lyle and Reynold!"
"!" Reynolds and Lyle's expressions drop when they hear that. Immediately, the two try to make a run for it. But how can they run away from Oliver? He's already behind them! Grabbing them by the scruff of their neck,
"So, what did the two of you say about me?"
"We didn't say anything!"
"Old man, we were just messing around!" Reynold shouts, and immediately, he regrets it. He grabs his mouth.
But it's too late.
The veins in Oliver's head bulge as he says, "Let's go out for a spare, shall we?" He doesn't need to ask the two as he begins to drag the two to the sparring ground!
"Captain! Save me!" "Clare, do something!" As the two were being dragged away, they shouted for Stewart and Clare to help. But they just shake their heads at them.
Not our problem.
Ignoring the two, Onyx asks Stewart, "Do you guys have anything left to do here?"
"Nah. We already did it while you were talking with the guild master." They have already handed over the demon crystals they got from the forest.
"Good. Then let's go now. Also, can you guys recommend an inn to stay at?" Hearing his words, Lucia makes a surprised expression,
"What?! You're not going to live with us?!" Onyx shakes his head,
"No. I've already imposed too much. I don't want to be a bother for you guys."
"You're not a bother!" Hearing her shout, the adventurers glance at her, wondering what she was screaming.
Lucia's expression turns bright red, not knowing what to do. But quickly, Muriel and Etta pull her back, calming her down. Stewart steps up,
"Onyx, it's fine for you to stay at our building. You have done more than what we can say." But Onyx shakes his head,
"I've only done what anybody else will do. And I want to live alone for a bit." Onyx makes a wry smile as he says this.
"I see."
"Sorry."
Stewart smiles, "You don't have to worry about it. I understand. When I was your age, I wanted to be independent too." He lugs his arm over Onyx's shoulder,
"Don't worry about the inn. I'll show you the perfect one."
Onyx smiles, "Thank you."

Bleached Nightmare
500 years into the future, technological progress has stagnated. Wracked by a series of problems like climate change, lack of resources and the innate human lust for war, the geopolitical landscape of planet Earth is radically different, and quality of life is far from what it was in the past. While technical development and research into realistically feasible space travel has made leaps and bounds, this has come at the cost of a world that is reeling from centuries of technical stagnation in other aspects of life. The establishment of a mining colony on Mars has led to the discovery of a new, rare material called sarinium; though it is extremely tensile and durable, it has a very low melting point. The discovery of this metal leads to large mechanical infantry- dubbed 'Spirit Striders', they are six to ten meters tall and as famed for the pride they provide a nation as they are a lethally mobile heavy weapons platform. The story follows the character of Marilin, who must both figure the enigma that is her past, and what this means for her allegiances in the future. Despite her genetically physical frailty, she seeks to gain power through a vessel that will channel her wish to change the world- the Spirit Strider. --- I hope you all enjoy my work. This is a story that I began writing over four years ago in my beginning years of high school, and have cast aside unfinished in the past two years. Though it is not up to my current standards, I hope you all may find some enjoyment in it. Happy reading.
