《Demon Contractor Unknowingly Becomes Less Of A Jerk》Chapter 4:Toy Aquired

The humans seem to be heading south, following the same route I took. A small masked child wearing a large, fluffy, white coat as well as a matching pair of boots and mittens riding a Lupcain cub is leading the group of humans, creating a bit of an odd sight as the coat-wearing intimidating adults slowly walk behind a cub riding child. Unfortunately, the coats have hoods that make it extremely difficult to get a good look at the human's faces and I'm simply too lazy to activate my eyes. After stopping several times to investigate the environment, the humans eventually begin to rest. For some reason, the human adults seem to be avoiding the child, only coming close to offer it some fruits. The child struggles to eat the plump red fruits offered, leading to accidentally push it's hood down, revealing the reason the adults are avoiding it. It's a little girl with sunken cheeks and long grey, white, and black spotted hair, something only seen in the creatures my dream buddy likes. Suddenly one of the male adults rushes at her, screaming gibberish, attempting to kick her, only to suddenly stop and bash his head against the nearest tree until his neck snaps. Seeing this, the little girl begins to smile, thoroughly enjoying the chaos and fear she just created. Not bad not bad such a shame she's a human.
Occasionally when an exceptional creature is born one of the sixteen ancients will bless it whether it be an intelligent slug or a weak, ugly, stupid, hideous, disgusting, abhorrent human; and sometimes, in a show of power one of the sixteen ancients will snatch whatever special creature another wanted and bless it themselves. It seems Sylvia came to this small nation to bless that small girl but Draumr, the petty bird that he is, got to the girl before Sylvia could, and likely feed her a drop of his blood giving her a certain level of control over the minds of others. Draumr's home may only exist in dreams but his mana will continue to exist as long as the mind exists.
"Looks like a group of Sylvia worshippers has decided to go on a little trip." Do they know about Sylvia's appearance? If they do what do they plan to do? And exactly how do I go about taking that precious tool from those religious freaks? Thanks to my nightly meetings as well as several small agreements and debts I have gained a small level of immunity to his mana and can, to a certain extent borrow and control some directly from Draumr...I really should hurry up and form a proper contract with that bird brain.
"It will be a tad difficult to use any fake identity since he has effectively angered almost every religious group, driving them to hunt and kill his kin and I can't use any of my borrowed mana, plus my spells take a little to long to cast...eh doesn't matter I'm still the most handsome, sexy, manly, magic-filled, gorgeous, demon to have ever been born." If I wanted to I could kill that crazy bird bastard anytime hell while I'm at it I still owe that overgrown snake leviathan a punch to the face. Send a tsunami to the humans and kill a few thousand of them, good in fact thankyou, try and devour moon island and kill a few demons, bad in fact I will kill you! I swear to god those stupid ancients should just die....Huh, wait where did the humans go?

And so I activate my eyes and begin looking through the forest, finding the human's mana signatures instantly...No wonder they chose her...a child archmage with a high affinity to healing and cursing arts what a miracle she is.vBefore I resume following the humans I rob the stupid human's corpse of his coat and valuables. Now that I have a more aesthetically pleasing way to cover up the bloody scars on my back, I go ahead and put on the stupid human's coat and kick his corpse a few times. "For right now the best disguise would be to act as a servant of the little human. If I kill a few of them while chanting Draumr's blessing I can most likely convince a few of them to try and attack the girl. I wonder how the humans will kill themselves when they anger her?"
And so I decided to slice myself a small bit and dirty my coat to better increase the impact of mindless murder man. In preparation, I decide to borrow some of the demon kings mana. I pull the king's contract from my personal sub-space and rub it on the bleeding cut I gave my chest. "I'd like to borrow some mana, so could you send me some blood?" In exchange for protection against a few of the ancients, as well as maintaining the land with my abilities he has to offer me some of his blood or tears, of course normally I wouldn't have to ask but since I asked for more than one drop of blood he has the right to reject or give less.
"Yes, my liege!"
"Good boy."
Suddenly bright red blood begins to flow out of the contract, coming together on top of my open palm, forming a ball and crystalizing. "Alright then as usual here's some of Sylvia's mana. Spread it in the forest and you should be able to collect some heavens fall fruit." I move my free hand onto the contract and begin pouring some of my borrowed mana, stopping after five minutes. As soon as our exchange has been made I rush to the humans, fresh mana stone in hand, finding them in a matter of minutes. It seems that they're traveling speed has been reduced and anything similar to comradery has disappeared. Every single human adult has removed their hood, possibly so that they can better monitor the little girl guiding them. They all appear to be under heavy stress and they all, despite the special attention they're giving to the little girl, somehow manage to leave enough mental capacity to closely monitor each other.
Ignoring the fact that the moment I make my glorious appearance I will likely be attacked by all of them I begin the show. I move to the tree above the girl and jump down, crushing the crystal in my hand and absorbing an excessive amount of mana. "Praise be Draumr, The all-seeing eye, and the ever-changing dream. The bringer of truth and awakener of potentials!" Those who have seen that annoying bastard Draumr usually only get to see his eye with the exception of special people who get to see his face which leads his followers to believe that he's a dream traveling crow. The humans attack me, some tossing snow at me in an attempt to blind me, some climbing the treetops I think to toss some branches at me, and some attack me upfront. "When war broke out he would travel through the minds of the poor, guiding them, breaking the soul's walls, and bringing endless potentials to life. Through our shared minds he finds sympathy and with our shared wills we find strength."

Draumr is one of the four gods within the sixteen ancients wielding a wider influence than all of them. His strength is low and he exists only in the minds of those he likes but his role, no the role he has set on himself is an important one. As the god who resides over dreams, the unfiltered mind, and facades he chooses to play the role of the world's peacemaker. Unfortunately, he is beyond terrible at being fair so often those who worship him have a haughty attitude and believe that they know the hearts of others with absolute certainty. Before the humans could even move five steps in front of me or even toss the flimsy branches I used a spell suited to a disciple of Draumr.
"Die."
I infuse every ounce of the demon kings mana into my words, instantly stopping the movement on the humans. Suddenly the humans begin to kill themselves. Those on the treetops would press the sharpest brach they could find against their chest or neck, and jump making sure the branches would pierce through them, those in front of me began to beat each other, the ones with the highest mana absorption rates killing every other human than themselves by slamming their heads against the ground, making sure their head heads were tilted at abnormal angles.
One of the many many many reasons Draumr's worshippers would be avoided was their words, their magic is limited to only effecting the mind but the effects, when they gather sufficient offerings or receive his blessing, is frankly terrifying. You speak to a Draumr worshipper and chances are you'll be naked in a ditch with everything of value stolen and you won't even remember what happened.
I turn to the child dropping the mask. "Come on you stupid human, you work for me now." Being the apostle of one of the most hated gods in the world would result in either fear or mistreatment from the party that finds you. She was likely raised by Sylvia's worshippers and they have a special grudge with Draumr so it's safe to say that she's likely been tortured for abandoning her god and joining the mad god. It's probably been a while since someone has referred to her as human.
Hearing my words a slight shine appears in the child's dead eyes. It seems I was right as long as I call her human I can add as many insults as I want. She'll be a fine tool and I can just trade her for some more of the demon king's blood so all should be fine as long as I play slightly nicer than usual. Suddenly the little girl uses a spell, thankfully I have felt this before so I know how best to respond. "That's right I'm a demon but that doesn't matter. As you can see I hate you, I hate humans in general. Your no different from any other human in my eyes even with normal hair I would still hate you. I don't care what you think, I don't care what you look like, I don't care who you worship. In my eyes your the same as all those detestable humans." The little girl smiles after reading my sub-conscious and stands up, moving two steps to my side making sure to keep an appropriate distance from me. "Good, now come let's move to your village and kill those humans. Try your best to play the obsessed witch my little toy."

Now her dream has a chance to become reality - she's a new student at Ba'al Cedric's Academy of Adventurers, a university for warrriors and heroes to learn to battle against the surprisingly amicable demon armies of the neighboring country in an endless war nobody really remembers the point of by now. She's also a BladeMage - an exceedingly rare and exceedingly difficult dual class that few have ever managed to succeed in, but those who have gain immense power. Arenya has a long road ahead of her, with rival students, duels with demons, and a host of benchmarks she must pass in order to keep her scholarship. Will she make it to level 100 and beyond, or die too many times and be forced to return home, tail (literally) between her legs to a life of farming and dreaming of adventure? BladeMage is a LitRPG with a lighter focus on stats. It features battles, leveling up, giant monsters, a bit of fanservice, and more. [Update: The LitRPG elements are proving themselves relatively unimportant as I continue to write. They may be dropped entirely, in which case I will change the prior chapters as well as update this description.] Content warnings: As a story featuring lots of fighting, there will be blood and death. However, since characters rarely die permanently, this will not be a hyperviolent story with extreme gore for the sake of it. Some sexual content and fanservice may be included, but this should remain firmly at the PG-13 level and there will be no sexual violence of any kind. The Cover: Someone suggested that I should have a dragon girl with a miniskirt on the cover. I can't draw and I don't know who to ask or commission, so a few minutes in the GNU Image Manipulation Program and the masterful cover above was created! Please feel free to use your imagination to see a gorgeous half-dragon with azure hair, wings, and a tail, holding a lightning-infused sword while fighting demons.

Someone Like Adam
"You know, it won't physically hurt you to be nice for once." I crossed my arms in front of my chest and groaned. "I don't want to take a chance." the corner of his lips lifted a little as he finished his sentence. "Well, you don't hear me complaining. The view of a someone so desperately working out is not a delight either." I retorted in a weary voice. "I bet it isn't." he narrowed his eyes at me and commented. Ugh.. Why is he so damn annoying? "You know what, just take your arrogant ass out of my room." I scowled at him, pointing towards the door. With small steps, he walked towards me. I took a step backwards when he neared me. He was invading my personal space, making me a bit flustered. The urge to push back his golden-brown hair covering his forehead was increasing with every passing second. "Gladly." he mumbled against my face and then walked past me out of my room. It took me a minute to calm down my racing heartbeat. ... He was a mystery, an enigma I wanted to solve. He was exhausting, he was infuriating, yet staying away from him was not an option. He was making me feel things I haven't felt before. Adam McArdle!
