In the Slum of Ehrenar City...
In the midst of many building which stands in there, there is one building that is more and the most conspicuous among them all.
Its obviously taller, cleaner, and more guarded than the other. Other than that, people somehow will pass this building with certain respect visible in their eyes.
The reason is obvious. That is because this is the base of a gang that lead this place.
If seen from outside, all the things here are just the same as usual to the eyes. But what people outside don't know is, a shocking change is currently taking place inside this very building.
============================
At the most luxurious room in the building, a boy, wearing a white mask in his face, is our disguised Yoro. On his body is a black cloak that falls to his feet. And with its hood opened, his silky black hair is seen glistening in the dark.
On his right hand there, is the new metallic sword he got from the Old man Iger before. It has sharpness which can be felt from meters away from how sharp it is. And now, this dangerous weapon is being pointed at to the man in front of him.
Raised his left hand, Yoro put it on his plain white mask on his face. "I think this thing isn't needed anymore, right?" Knowing his identity has exposed, he took off the mask on his face, revealing a pretty face which making a feral smile behind it right now.
The Grey-haired man there growing more anxious after seeing it was really him all along. Looking down, he sees the incapacitated bulky guy, lying in there lifelessly, with blood still dripping from his headless neck. 'H-he died?...j-just like that?!...' He shivers involuntarily when he imagines if that bloody thing happens to himself
Grey-haired guy: 'no! I saw it clearly that he is just intermediate tier swordsman right there! He can kill my assistant just now, is only because he caught him off guard!' He thought positively. Right now, he must not panicked or lose his cool in a situation like this. He knows as a leader himself, he must stay calm even when death is already in vision. Otherwise, the only outcome possible for him is death itself.
Grey-haired guy: 'that's right, he is just a snot-nosed kid. While he is already in intermediate tiers, I already at the peak of it and have more experience myself. I cannot just die just from battling him...can I?' He keeps convincing himself repeatedly in his heart, so he can get his once lost composure back again.
Exhaling the breath he involuntarily held, he narrowed his eyes at the sword-equipped kid in front of him. "...I guess you won't get off until we crossed our weapon, right?" standing slowly from his chair, he pulls his sword from below his desk and points the blade at Yoro. "...what exactly do you want from all this?..." He asked with unfriendly tone.
With how hostile Yoro's approach to him right now, he is very doubting he would get a nice outcome if he is getting into a fight with this kid. If this brat dies, then the marquis undoubtedly would come for his head later. And if he is the one who died...well, he doesn't want to die obviously.

Yoro: "my reason huh..." Storing the mask inside his cloak, he replied indifferently "well, there is much reason for what I did...but the main reason is to-" holds his sword with two hands, he then lung at him and swing his sword at full force "-kill you!"
Ding!!*
His strike is blocked at the last second.
When he realized his strike is blocked, Yoro jumps away from the table in the centre, so he can prepare his sword to attack him once again.
But as he stabilizing his stance, his eyes met with that grey-haired man, who is surprisingly is already raised his sword right in front of him.
From upwards of his head, that man swings his sword vertically at Yoro, who is already on stance there. As the blade comes, he dodged it with jumping behind instead of blocking it like what Chad said to him in the spar.
But there, the grey-haired man is already followed up with another attack, and another, and another one towards Yoro. Every one of his strikes is lethal and vicious, and he won't really give Yoro a break even for one second.
Yoro: 'he is fast!' Dodging another of his attack, he grows more and more pushed to behind, it is until there is no more room behind him, as his back is almost touched the door in the back of the room.
Yoro: 'damn!' Cursing in his mind, he doesn't have another choice but blocks his attacks in here. He is already cornered in the room, so he can't dodge anymore. Dodging sideways is great, yes. But that is just when he is skilled enough to do it. If not, then doing it is just stupid if not an outright idiot. While there is maybe some chance of success, the bargain here is his life, it is too high to be put on the table right now.
Ding!*
As he blocks his attacks, he can feel his hand is growing numb. That man strike is heavy considering he is an adult. If it's gauged out, It's more or less is as heavy as Chad's normal strike in the estimation, which is quite hard for him to hold right now.
And in the grey-haired guy eyes, seeing this kid can block his attack with ease, widens his eyes in surprise for a split seconds before he shouts at Yoro: "You're slow!" Noticed an opening in Yoro's stance, he kicked him in the stomach with his free leg very, very hard.
Thud!*
Yoro: "aagh!" Being kicked in the stomach, Yoro is flung backwards and crash into the brown door behind him. The hard texture of the door and the feeling of his pummeled intestine is driving his adrenaline crazy.
He holds his stomach at the sore spot as he grits his teeth in pain. All of the air in his chest has blown out of his lungs, making him coughing involuntarily to relieve his lack-of-air chest condition.
Feels being approached, Yoro raised his head upwards. And in his vision there, he finds the grey-hired man who has kicked him just now, is grinning at him with a vile smile planted all over his face.

grey-haired guy: "hehehe...what can I do to you now that things have gone like this" with a disgusting laugh, he slowly approaches the downed Yoro. All while thinking many wicked things he can do to this headache-inducing bastard kid.
But Yoro as he is, is not a person who would just stay still quitely, all while his enemies are getting advantage over him. He can be so ruthless when he wants it, and there is no one out there can stop him for it.
Sighing inside his mind, Yoro's lips involuntarily turns upwards when he sees that foolish grey-haired man is thinking he already wins. And therefore, act all mighty and over himself.
In that grey-haired man eyes, this kid has lost. This kid who has bring many trouble and obstacle for him is already cornered like a rat caught in act.
But, why?...
His surpressed instinct is flaring up again once more, and this one even more harder and louder than he ever had.
And this instead, is just making him confused silly. He is sure he is already win right now, and his instinct about this kid is a bad news for him is utterly wrong beforehand.
But when that kid looks at him in the eyes, his heart skipped a beat as he sees for sure that blue orb is gleaming slightly.
He doesn't know why, or how, but he is really terrified right now. He want to say something to himself, want to convice himself for one more time, and want to soothe his heart that this kid is nothing compared to him once more.
But he can't do that.
He can't when that kid suddenly smile. Not with the happy or charming one, but with the evil one which is more evil than anything in his eyes right now.
He is freaked out, that's for sure.
So he doesn't know why, or when. But as he comes out of his stuppor, he finnaly realize that his hand has already moved. The sword in his hand has move to pierce this cursed kid in the head, to end his life once for all.
And as a wise man said, reality is sucks...
Maybe he is right to end someone lifes, when they have grasp in the control of something you don't know. And that's actually the best course of action if applied in another time and to another person.
But unfortunately, the one in front of him is Yoro.
As his sword moved in unbelievablely fast speed, he can sees it. This kid is moved his head to dodge! But while his eyes know that much, his muscle reaction another matter.
At the speed of his sword right now, he can't stop his strike half-way to Yoro. All the thing he can do right now is only to makes it faster, or slower.
Making it slower is just stupid, this kid would have more time to dodge and he would failed in this attack. So...no, he won't gives this cursed kid even a sliver chance to retaliate. Therefore, he bets his life for making it faster and muster all his strength to it.
And the results?
Zrukkk*
Grey-haired man: 'WHAT!' He widen his eyes at the unthinkable that just happened. He found it missed! At only one hair in width at that!
When he sees this, he wants to pull his sword back to him, so he can tank any and every strike this kid will made. But...
Grey-haired man: 'oh shit! oh shit!' he cursed in his mind as his brain is overworked from the adrenaline its producing right now. The reason? It's because unfortunately, his sword won't budge from its place.
His sword is stuck in the fucking wooden door!
Grey-haired guy: 'Oh, FUCK!' Cursing again in his mind, he then do the only thing he can think of with his brain right now. That is,
To let off the sword go.
But as he moved his feets backwards, the fate is moved against him for one more time. When he let of his sword in there, his feet stumbled on fucking something, making him trips backwards.
The world is spinning in his eyes, and both of his hand move down in relflex to support his falling body, which is a bad choice of action to take if I could say.
Yoo: "eat this!" And that is the last thing he heard from his killer, when he sees it in his eyes, a glint of sword is moving towards him.
Grey-haired man: 'ah, damn it...' his hands is already used, so he can't use it to block his attack. And to move his body away is out of question here, when the range of the attack is too short for him to dodge it.
Grey-haired: 'why the hell i confront this bloody brat in the first place?' that is the last thing he can think of, before his vision is filled with darkness afterwards.
Splat!*
A thrusting noise is heard, and his head is pierced.
And so, his instinct is actually right all this time, and not betraying it's owner for any false information in anytime there. When his instinct is flared up for the first time, he actually had a chance to escape the death.
But he didn't trust his instinct at that time, and as it said, he has no choice but to die when the death itself already sees him.
And additionaly, he didn't trusted his instinct for the second time, for he choose to attack Yoro instead of fled away from this place, when Yoro there is actually just playing weak with him.
And so, he pays badly for it there...

Mortis Operandi 1- New Hire
Thank you for reading, I have to start with that. The feedback and encouragement from RoyalRoad users helped me finish my book. I left the unedited version up as I worked on editing and making it a little more polished. However the time has come for me to put it on Amazon and hopefully let other people read the story. If you have Kindle unlimited you should be able to read the story there. If you just want to order an ebook version you can do that as well. I should have a paperback version coming up. https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B07T46B4NM Again thank you for reading and helping me on this journey. It hasn't ended however, my second book which I'm hoping to do well enough that reading the first isn't completely necessary, is still being worked on here, https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/24562/mortis-operandi-2--terms-and-conditions . Any feedback, comments, even critism is welcome as I work on giving you the best version of my story. I'll leave the first two chapters up here, unless Amazon says otherwise. There should be enough differences to avoid issues though. THANK YOU! Thank you! thank you! __________________________________ Adventurers enter dungeons every day. When you are trying to study ancient lore or plan on conquering a kingdom, you don't want to worry about all that. You just want peace. Mortis Operandi is a different kind of company. The Lies They Told Me: Short stories from my life
Like many of my peers, I've discovered that life is not quite what I expected it to be. As I age, I've begun to find that many of the sayings and truths that my parents, authority figures, and friends have passed on to me were outright lies. Every person I know has been subject to the same interactions, which got me thinking, why not write a compilation of stores about my life experiences to date. I hope that this book will help all of us come to terms with the realities that we face today or deal with some of our deepest feelings about the past. Maybe these people lied to us and maybe they honestly believed the myriad of things they told us, but either way I think we can have a good laugh looking back and remembering the first times that we realized these things weren't true. I also hope that you can look back at the lies, or life lessons, that you've learned and can be inspried to own your stories and share them with others in a genuine way. Wiithout further ado, I hope that you enjoy the many short stories of my life that made me who I am today. These stories range from funny to down right surrel, so good luck on your journey!
