In the vast grassland stretching into the horizon and yet filled with nothing but grass, stand two conspicuous people. Standing with folded arms and head raised up to the sky, is a teen whom so handsome that may make many people envy him. While on the opposite side of him is a teen whom from the appearance is the same age as the other party with handsomeness that not lose and maybe winning from the person in front of him
The teen whom standing with the thinking pose is Yoro, highschooler teen with a life that is so great, but ended so suddenly without him knowing anything.
While the opposite of him is a being who doesn't want to explain himself to the other person and act so mysterious while foolish at the same time. With the eyes half-open and expression that leaks out an aura of boredness, he asks Yoro whom standing still with a thinking pose.
???: "Well, do you understand now what is happening?" He said it with a tone that implicates that he wants to end this conversation as soon as possible. But, the one he is talking to right now, Yoro, as a smart person as he is won't let this off easily.
Yoro: "Well, more or less," Yoro said as he wasn't sure himself.
Finally, Yoro lowers his head back from seeing the sky to stare at this guy in front of him, and ask him one more time "So, I will be reincarnated to the world that you called Eus, right?"
???: "Exactly, it's can be explained as one of the million chance of happening to another person you see? It's not like being transmigrated to a parallel world is an everyday event, or it will be chaotic enough that government has to step in to calm things down... maybe..." His word became a murmur at the end like he was not even sure himself.
Yoro: "Well, let's assume that I agree to your so-called free offer right now, and so I want to ask you one thing that keeps budging me you see, and that's if it is okay with you" Yoro inquiries while he stared deeply at the other party eyes with an incomprehensible glint in both of his eys.
The unknown being in front of him, hearing what he said right there, just nodded his head as a gesture for Yoro to go on and ask whatever damned thing he wants. And boy, the question that he asks is really out of the scope of what is called expected
Yoro: "You called this death points is the thing I have to be traded with one ability you show before, right?" As if confused where this conversation will be going, that unknown being just nodded his head.

Yoro: "What I wanted to ask is, what will happen to the remaining of it?" He asks with an amused grin while the other party widen his eyes from the unexpected sentence which just come out of Yoro's mouth leisurely.
Back to the past,
After the awkward moment that happened between them before, the unknown being started to explaining things like what is another world, the general social standing in there, and monster that which the world and how people there protect themself with magic.
Yes, a freaking magic
Yoro has played games before and so, know more or less how the concept of the magic work. In the game, the price for using it is mana as the fuel. And if you a mage player and run out of mana, right in the middle of a battle without tank or fighter to cover you, well congratulation then, you have f*cked up right there.
This person in front of Yoro has said that the world he will be transmigrated at, will be filled with ambient magic which is been supplied by eus, the world itself. And when he asks if is the earth where he lived before has magic, the unknown being that acts so mighty and mysterious shuddered.
Yoro: "W-well, there is magic in the earth... once..." He stuttered in the first word and the volume of his voice started to low down until the last word that comes out of his mouth almost can't be heard by Yoro's ears.
Yoro: "What do you mean 'once'"? Curious, Yoro inquiries him further just to be faced with silence. Not satisfied with that, Yoro urges him to spill the beans until he can't take it anymore.
???: "Ch, it's the church okay!? Don't make me say more than that damn it" looking at his face, Yoro can make a conclusion that he has bad memories with the church. And if it is anything related to magic, he knows one event which so great that it has famed church in the entire world.
Yoro: "Witch hunt..." As Yoro said that, the unknown being in front of him wince like he just bit some nasty bugs. Well, seeing it with your own eyes and just knowing it is two different matter, while Yoro here is one who sided with latter.
Back to the topic, after the unknown entity explained the eus in general, he started to telling that the person who transmigrated on the other side will be given a special ability known as a cheat. Half of them would be just given the ability randomly and sent in a hurry. While the other half will be given the privilege to chose the ability themself.

And Yoro here, who had everything once in his life know so well how much expensive free is. He had been taught that thing since so little by his damned father. And while he hates that guy to the core, he will agree instantly if someone said his father is one of wisest man he ever met. That is and while the power which called cheat may help him to become the bad guy and controlling others life to his heart content, is free and given for granted, he won't just fall for that so easily. That is why he can't just end this conversation yet.
That unknown being said he got his point from the good deeds he had done in his previous life. But as trustable as it sounds, there must be another factor involved.
Yoro: "If I remember correctly about my previous life, I am able to say that I haven't done a good deed that so big which make my point bulge to 4000 points" And that is what the hologram displayed about his point he has right now. According to that unknown being, the average point of people who transmigrated there is a 2500 point.
Well, maybe to eyes, everything looks normal, but what if the average point that unknown being said taken too from the one who can't choose his ability. If they can't choose what ability they had, where the point go?
Then he tries to ask the nominal point of the last guy this unknown being has sent, but the answer he gets is a shake of the head.
???: "I am sorry but it's confidential information," he said with a sorry tone that is not so sorry. But that just makes Yoro more suspicious about the point he has now. He can't take the chance to be tricked again.
'there has to be something more involved in my point' Yoro assumed it must be related to this damned another world. And as he thinks like that, he raised his head to stare at the sky and making thinking pose.
And this is what leads him to ask another question which makes us in here now.
Back to the present,
Yoro stares deeply in the other party eyes to see if he is really sincere about what he said. Then Yoro start explained his point
Yoro: "Well, as I can see right there. Maybe saving my mother is a good deed but who knows? I am not the one who decides it. Maybe it is indeed a good deed, but in the end, it is just my selfish desire I took when I didn't have another choice, so it can't be the thing which makes my point bigger. The conclusion is, my point that exceeds the other must be having involvement in another factor, especially... The eus"
When Yoro arrived at this point, he grinned so big while the glint in his eyes become more clearer. "And that is must be the thing I'll have when I arrived in another world no?"
As Yoro, finished his explanation, the unknown being in front of him open his mouth in agape. He can't believe that Yoro, who didn't know a thing about another world can find the hole in their deal. In comparison, It's like an Eskimo person know how to make handphone from zero. So basically it's unbelievable.
But right at the next second, he burst to laugh which is so hard that it is won't stop until many seconds later. Yoro who standing there confused at why is he laughing while he doesn't know himself had been compared to Eskimo.
Yoro: "Haa, that's a nice laugh right there I haven't had lately," he said while he wipes his tear in the corner of his eyes. After that, he put the same amused grin he used at the start of this conversation.
???: "You want to know what will happen to your point right? Then you have a right for an answer to that question" he said while interest starts to appear in his eyes.
???: "When you choose your ability, which you can just choose one, the rest of your point didn't go. Instead, it will affect you in the next world, especially right at the start" seeing Yoro appear more confused, he continued
???: "Well, let's just say your point went to zero, then congratulation, you have a great ability right there. But you won't have what every person may have. For example, your human right, your body parts or worse..." He paused to stare right in yoro's eye "...your whole body"
Yoro, hearing that feeling goosebump and relieve at the same time. He is lucky he found the hole in the deal, if not, maybe he will be transmigrated there as a slave, don't have an arm, or maybe... outright died
???: "Muehehehe, now you know the consequences of your action, you can now start choosing" his laugh maybe sound funny if its the other time. But after that same person who just made Yoro passed between life and death choice, it's sound thoroughly creepy.

Apex Predator
Earth is a fairly small place, but it's all Bath has. It's the only home he's ever known for all of his 500-or-so-million years of life. One day, Bath realized his treasured Earth was being drawn into the next mass extinction ahead of schedule. So, fascinated by the humans and their quick rise to power (after all, setting off a mass extinction is a pretty sizable achievement), what's a nearly all-powerful, somewhat bored, morally ambiguous, savagely violent, shapeshifting alien entity to do other than assume the form of a human and do some front-line investigating? Little did Bath know he would soon stumble upon a mysterious human organization with a gate leading to planets eons away. And that's just the beginning... A story with aliens, intergalactic space travel, mind powers, and an abundance of adventure! Author's note: ON HIATUS! Hello and thank you for reading! Constructive criticism and grammar-policing are both appreciated. Parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 are complete at 1271 pages! Part 7 is in progress! If you've ever read any other web serials, you might've noticed that authors get better with time (that is, their art or writing improves). Wutosama of Metaworld Chronicles noted that the first 20 chaps are always a mess. This is also the case with Apex Predator. The first two parts (ranging just under 30 chapters, or 161 pages) are absolutely subpar. While I have edited them as of 7-10-18, they require a rewrite, which is currently in the works but not complete. For a sample that gives insight into what the latter ~80% of the story's writing style is like, check out chapter 56. Vote for Apex Predator on Top Web Fiction! The Apex Predator Discord is here. Cover: original work done by me, the author, caerulex.
