《The Forgotten Light》Chapter 5: Linley

My eyes open slowly and I see someone kneeling over me.
“I’m sorry if this seems a bit odd, I saw your hand glowing and whenever someone’s hand glows in these parts it’s never a good sign. It means they’re about to die, I only meant to save your life.”
“Thank you but I’m fine, see I’m alive.”
“You were unconscious for at least 30 minutes. At least that’s when I found you, it could have been longer.”
I leaned on my elbows and said once more, “I’m fine.” My head felt dizzy and I fell backwards to the ground. My head began to pound.
“Here I got some water for you, drink up it will make you feel better. Trust me.”
“Fine.” I reached out for the canteen full of water and started to drink it. The water was gone before I knew it. I wanted more. I needed more. I gave the canteen back to Linley and asked, “Can I please have some more.”
“As long as you promise not to move while I’m gone.”
“Fine.”
He got onto his feet and started walking away. I swiftly sat up and looked at my left hand, everything seemed to be normal. When Linley returned I grabbed the canteen from his hands and gulped every drop I could. I handed it back to him and at the moment our hands touched. Due to an electric shock, I sharply pulled my hand back. “Ow, why did you do that?”
“I swear that’s never happened to me before.”
I looked at my hand again but nothing was out of the ordinary so I reached out again and touched one finger to his hand. “Ow, okay you’re doing this. I don’t know why but you’re doing this.”

Just then his right hand began to glow white, I looked down at my left hand and it began to glow white as well.
“Uh oh, this isn’t good.”
“Why?”
“When two people with the ability to create sunlight from their hands come into contact with each other bad things will happen.”
“So that’s why you said that people with glowing hands in these parts is never a good sign.” I paused before I asked the question that’s been on my mind since I first saw my hand glow. “What does this power allow us to do?”
“It allows us to cover the world in light when there is complete darkness.”
“That seems kind of boring, don’t you think?”
“Well not only that, if used properly it can bring light to other people.”
“What do you mean?”
“For instance you. When you were unconscious I was able to fill your ‘dark world’ with light and bring you back to life enough to save your life.”
“So it’s like healing magic then?”
“I guess so.”
“Lame.” I got onto my feet and began to walk away. But there was something holding me back, like an energy source of some kind connecting me to Linley. Suddenly a thundering sound was bursting through the dirt above us causing small pieces of dirt to fall on my head.
Just when I looked down at my feet the strange man threw his hands against my body and forcefully pushed me against the ground. The air filled with dirt and when the dirt in the air settle Linley was on top of me. I placed my hands on his shoulder blades and pushed him off of me. Between coughs I said, “What’d you do that for?”

He didn’t say anything, instead he just pointed where I was previously standing. A giant dirt pile covered the ground.
“Again you didn’t have to save me. But thanks.”
When he got on his feet he stuck out his hand to help me up. I knew better than to touch him again, I definitely didn’t want to get shocked after almost getting crushed by a dirt pile. So I rejected his hand and stood up on my own.

TAG DISCLAIMER: The tags 'Portal Fantasy / isekai', 'High Fantasy', and 'Non-Human Lead' do not take place until later on in the novel. Probably mid-way through the first volume. The 'villainous lead' tag is a very loose tag. Some of the things the mc does can be considered villainous to those with a staunch moral code, however, I have not made the mc out to be overtly villainous. True Title: Advent of the Silent Storm (I came up with the original title a while ago, before I had even written a single chapter. It still kind of fits but this new title fits a lot better. I would change it but I don't know if it would screw up the recommendation algorithm.) Excerpt: My mind wanders through the soup of unconsciousness, still startlingly awake despite my physical form’s stasis. Electricity completely paralyzes the air around me and lightning flashes in a constant strobe of blinding light. The ground, thousands of feet below my being has been wiped clean of all manmade artifice and natural beauty; leveled, through absolute power. My power. Synopsis: Tetal Faelen, a very successful businessman with lofty goals, is introduced to an omniscient being through less than pleasant means. This being has an irresistible offer for Tetal with next to no downside. Tetal can’t help but wonder, “What’s the catch?” Additional Notes: Second novel I have started within the Web of Interconnected Realities. My other novel is not posted on this site so don't bother looking for it. I might post it here in the future.
