Chapter 9

We were approaching the gate of the city when one of the guard's waved towards our cart signaling it to stop. A rather tall man with a big smile on his face came towards us and started talking with Nile.

“ Well if it isn't the kings personal knights don't see you folks out of the castle often but seeing that gryphon behind you guys whats the occasion? “

“ Well the princess birthday is coming up and she really wanted a gryphon seeing as she is a monster tamer after all might as well make the most of it and give her a strong monster that can protect her. “

princess birthday? Really I thought they needed this gryphon for there war. Well it doesn't really matter too much I don't believe he lied to me about anything else seeing as the guard addressed him with the same title he gave me.

The two talked for a little while more until the guard signaled up towards the gate. Slowly the gate started to open and we were once more on our way into the city. The first thing I noticed was the smell so did Sakura it seems as she had woken up.

' Master this place smells different than the forest there are so many different smells. '

' Yes were not even inside yet it might be a bit overwhelming but bear with it you will grow accustomed to it soon enough after all it seems well be in this city for quite a while. '

The first thing I saw were the buildings some were different colors ranging from blue to red but most were some sort of brown. The buildings themselves were pretty big but not too big the largest one I could see while we were entering was a large white temple looking building it was about the size of a 4 story house. Many people were coming and going from the place so I felt like I had to ask.

“ Hey Jarvis what is that temple looking building. “

He looked surprised for a second seeing as I didn't ask much on our journey but soon enough he had a big grin on his face before responding with.

“ That beauty there is the temple of Heivr he is the god of war and protection many people worship him in this city so before you say something dumb it'd be best to hold your tongue. “

Heivr huh I wonder if that is the god that sent me to this place. Soon we had past the temple and were coming into a different district I would call it there were 2 guards standing watch. The guards looked once at Nile and waved us through they didn't ask anything else even with this huge gryphon following us I guess Nile is well trusted around here. We did get some stares while driving through town because of the gryphon but most people didn't look twice seems they were used to this sort of thing. Coming into this new district I immediately saw a difference in quality of life.

The houses were huge and by huge I mean they were almost 3 to 4 times the size of the ones we had past along the way. Once again I tapped Jarvis on the side and asked.

“ What is this place why are the houses so big. “

“ This here lad be the Nobles district only those with a title of nobility can live here. That why those guards back there were holding watch so no thieves come and steal from here it was a big problem a while back. “

“ Where are we going is our stop here in the Nobles district? “

“ No lad our stop is further ahead we are headed to the palace you'll know when we get there it how do you say stands out. “

Our ride continued for around 30 more minutes until we came close to a gate that was guarded by 6 heavily armed guards 3 on each side. As we pulled to a stop near the gate one of the guards came forward and yelled.

“ State your business!”

Immediately Nile responded with.

“ James you sound like such an ass its me Nile I brought back the princess birthday present. “

This James fellow looked a bit embarrassed some of the guards on watch started giggling but you could see they were trying hard to hold back.

“ Ugh Nile you know its protocol you were once on gate duty too don't think I've forgotten. Anyways let them through. “

“ Aye I was once on gate duty but not anymore little twerp ill see you at the princess birthday. “

Once entering the gate it was like we were going into a different world altogether there was nothing but fields of flower for about a mile out. Beautiful was all I could think I saw all kinds of flower on our way towards the palace some I recognized some I didn't. This place was truly magical I think I saw a lake on our way to the palace but I wasn't to sure I didn't really see I was to busy just taking it all in. Still nothing here looked as beautiful as the palace did it was huge it had 4 watch towers from what I could see along with the pillars that were in the front it looked like a magical place. The entire place seemed to be made up of some white kind of stone I didn't know what it was but it seemed similar to granite.

Once we came to a stop Nile jumped out of the front and came around back when he reached us he said.

“ Alright guys I'm going to go in and report to the king you guys take the gryphon and put it in the stables Marcus come with me. “

Everyone readily agreed as did I after coming this far there was no need for me to second guess his motives or my decision. Walking up the steps into the palace I saw a few maids and butlers here and there which was a quite a weird sight I had never seen actual maids and butlers before. The inside of the palace was just as beautiful as the outside there were paintings and statues in almost every place you looked quite a marvelous sight.

Soon enough we approached a large doorway once in front of it Nile simply nodded towards the guards one of them nodded back and entered the doorway.

“ Marcus once we enter make sure to bow to the king once he says you can stand you can do so. Also take out that snake companion of yours so it can be along side the fox that has been following us. “

I simply nodded I at least knew to bow to a king I wasn't completely hopeless.

' Nox come out stay on the right side Sakura go to the left. '

' Yesss massster although I sssee no point to thisss. '

' Nox why must you always argue just do as master says no need to be grumpy about it. '

Once the guard came back he motioned for us to enter the doorway when Nile started walking I followed closely behind with Sakura and Nox. The guards looked a little on guard at first but Nile soon motioned them to stand down. Entering what I could only call the Throne Room I followed Nile closely we got about 20 feet from the throne itself before we both bowed before the king. Soon after bowing I heard a hoarse voice speak.

“ Stand Nile and stranger. “

Slowly we both stood once we both were standing I got a good look at the king. He was old I would say around the ages of 40-50 his hair was black with streaks of gray but the most noticeable about him were his eyes. The king looked like he had seen his fair share of hardship from the way his eyes looked this war must not be going to well for them.

The king seemed exhausted but that is no business of mine I mean I don't even know why I'm in the throne room to begin with. Soon enough Nile spoke.

“ My king I have obtained the present for the princesses 10th birthday tomorrow night. “

“ You have done good Nile I shall make sure you are awarded properly but, I must ask who is this boy you have brought with you and those beast as well. “

“ My king this is Marcus I would like to suggest you make this boy the princesses teacher he is a monster tamer and the strongest one I've ever seen. “

“ Hmm what makes this little runt qualified to be a teacher for my daughter. “

“ My king I beg of you do not judge him for his looks this fox here can use fire magic and healing spells as well and that is just from what I saw. As for the black snake it is more deadly than any species of snake I have ever seen before it paralyzed a gryphon with a single bite along with that it seems it can meld into the shadow of its master. “

“ Nile I trust you. You have served me well over the years I will give this boy a chance he may train my daughter the day after her birthday but, be warned Nile if anything happens to my daughter I will be putting the blame on you both not just this boy. “

“ I thank you my king we will be taking our leave now. “

A teacher that's what I was dragged here to be a freaking teacher shit. It was pretty obvious I was mad once we exited the throne room Nox went back into my shadow and as soon as she did I heard Nile speak.

“ Marcus look I'm sorry for lying to you its just that the princess really needs a trainer. This is a dangerous time and you are the strongest monster tamer I have seen most don't even try to fight our war with the elves has been growing more and more dangerous by the day the princess must learn to fight for herself in case anything happens. “

I sighed.

“ Nile I'm not mad it is fine I understand you did what you had too next time you need something from me just please don't lie to me I may look like a child but don't treat me like one. “

Nile smiled then spoke again.

“ Thanks for this Marcus honestly ill make it up to you one day I owe you big time for this. Now follow me ill show you to the room you'll be staying in. Lucky you since the king agreed to letting you be the princess teacher you get to sleep in the room next to the princesses its quite roomy. “

And just like this another day came to a close in this world and I somehow ended up the teacher of a princess oh boy.
