《Must I Go Out to Survive This?》First Vol - Chapter 3 - Infected

Why did this happen?
[House number 24 West section is empty!]
[Next to it is empty too!]
All of the houses in the West do not have any signs of the presence of Yuki. That means she's either going east or south.
I decided it was an emergency situation. Yuki came out without a partner and without wearing any protective suit. That is dangerous.
Although to be honest the surrounding area is not too dangerous, the words in the memo made me very uneasy. What does that mean by 'I will bring three zombie corpses to prove'? Why is she acting so recklessly!
Maybe it's also because I didn't let her out. Damn, I have to stop playing that game! I can't let myself get caught up in that.
"Yuki!"
...
I'm Yuki, and I'm a high school girl with blonde hair. The only person in the camp with a significant color difference. I'm not discriminated against, it's just that Tanaka, he always overrules me. He specializes in me.
So what if I'm a weak woman? Yeah, I can't even do twenty push-ups. I'm also not as strong as the others when it comes to sit-ups, but that's no reason why I shouldn't be allowed out with the others. I want to feel it too.
They all talk about how to kill zombies effectively. I listened to them, the word on word I feel envy of. That's right, I'm jealous. I'm jealous that I want to try it myself. I don't want to be the only person who hasn't killed a single zombie. Well, I used to, but I remember it was already a one dead zombie.
I know that, Tanaka must have considered this mentality of mine. Yes, I'm fickle. Sometimes I'm like a normal person, sometimes I'm like a psycho with a weak body. I remember it happened once, but I can't be sure I'll remember it later. Yes, I would even forget what I was thinking right now. Actually what happened to my body, damn it!
There are five zombies there. This is the housing where Tanaka previously fought the Tank mutant. There were still quite a number of zombies here and Tanaka had deliberately not eradicated them for member training reasons. Yes, that means they are my target and I have every right to it.
My targets are zombies, the number I need is three, it would be better if I got more. But wait, I have to find a zombie target that isn't a group. That's right, I'd definitely lose if I fought a lot of them head-on.
On my left are two zombies. They were looking in the same direction, their backs facing me. They are easy targets. Yeah, that's what I thought, it should be.
'No no, what if when I kill one, the other will turn around and the zombies will multiply?'
There are many things on my mind right now. Damn, I have to kill three zombies. Yes, that's not even a large number compared to what Makise had killed. Especially when compared with other members and the most unreasonable is with Tanaka. Obviously the number three was just a few minutes of time he off the base.
However, the three zombies I want to get are not something easy. I'm weak, that's true. Even if I managed to swing my weapon, it wasn't a guarantee that they would just die. I need strength, yes, that's why I brought the katana that Tanaka usually used when going out. It's heavy.
While I was thinking about the possible bad things that could happen to me, one of the two zombies on the left side walked the other way. Yes, now there is one zombie which is an easy prey. He is my prey.

I approached him, slowly, silently, and when I was right behind him, I swung. I managed to swing the katana right at the zombie's neck. That's right, the zombie didn't move and the katana caught, on stuck.
"Ugh!"
I tried to pull it off. The katana that Tanaka used to use was heavy so it was difficult to pull it off the zombie's neck. Has Tanaka always been like this? No, I've never seen him struggling with this thing. On the contrary, compared to my current situation, Tanaka always manages to cut the zombie's neck completely. I envy his strength.
"Finally!"
I managed to pull out the katana. It was covered in blood and had a fishy smell. I just remembered, I'm not wearing a mask or other safety items.
Well, the reason I didn't use it was because there was Taki I had to meet anyway. Obviously I can't say that I want to leave the base even though Taki knows that I'm not allowed out by Tanaka. The two of them somehow worked together to keep me cooped up in the base.
"Graaaa!"
Zombie, from the right, she's close. It was the zombie that had left earlier. It was normal for her to still be around, but this was too close.
I swung my katana at the neck, but it only managed to hit the shoulder. She was still moving forward, towards me.
"Bad one!"
I can only run. I couldn't take the katana because when I was about to do it, the zombie's hand almost grabbed mine. The katana fell in the alley that I might have forgotten what it looked like. I will definitely get scolded by Tanaka after this.
Those bare hands are not a good weapon to deal with zombies. Even a wound as small as a scratch if it was in contact with zombie blood, it was the end. I need to find something, yes, a ranged or long distance weapon.
All I found at that time was a broom outside the house. It is long and hard. Can be a weapon.
I'm back to face the zombies. I don't know why, but I think she's almost dead. She crawled. I then just beat her a few times until she finally, completely didn't move. Yes, this is the second victim and I have to pull their bodies to one place.
"Graa!"
"Gwara!"
Two, no, this is a lot. They come from several sides. Wait, since when have there been this many zombies?
This is bad, I was surrounded by zombies before I could even retrieve Tanaka's katana.
...
[Tanaka, most likely Yuki is in the west area where you said to be forbidden to enter. I saw a strange zombie movement over there!]
Haruka's call made me rush towards it direction. That stupid girl went to a place I least thought of. A place filled with zombies.
I deliberately left the place filled with zombies for one reason, to guard the surroundings. That's right, at that time I was still a bit worried about the whereabouts of other people who had bad intentions, so I left the zombies there still alive. However, did I forget to tell her about it?
Within minutes, I arrived.
[I saw you!]
"I didn't!"
[From the direction in front of you, go right then turn left and go straight. There you can see zombies traveling in the same direction!]
"Alright!"
Haruka, that girl is on top of an apartment building to snoop around.
I went in the direction Haruka pointed. The call is still connected and that's when I found it. Dozens of zombies moving in the same direction. Here she is.

At 09:21 am, Tanaka and Haruka are looking for Yuki. The other members of the camp also searched, but they were in different places and it was the two of them who managed to find clues about Yuki. The west side of the block from base, that was where Tanaka was running.
This is an incident that could have been prevented, but unfortunately it was too late. Tanaka's current goal was to bring Yuki back safely. He felt that he was guilty for this incident. Yes, he had just evaluated his overprotective actions. Tanaka realized that and wanted to fix it.
[I found it, it's on the left of the alley after!]
With Haruka's direction, Tanaka moves. Haruka has found Yuki, although unfortunately she can't act like Tanaka who is in the middle of a zombie crowd. Haruka wasn't anyone special, she was just an ordinary girl.
"I have her!"
Tanaka tells Haruka that he has seen Yuki. Even though the girl wasn't within his reach yet, it was useful to let Haruka out of her current position. Haruka who heard that immediately headed downstairs, following the direction of the road she remembered to help Tanaka.
"Yuki!"
Tanaka made a loud call towards the front. It's not really a call to call, but a call to warn. There was a zombie on Yuki's right side that she might not have seen, but Tanaka's call made the girl look back.
There is one rule that almost everyone in the apocalypse world knows about. Don't let yourself be bitten, infected or allow your body to be exposed to things related to zombies. The reason is simple, it all boils down to one thing: zombification, the process by which a human or the like turns into a zombie. Some people do have their own immunity against this virus, but not everyone has it. Yes, even if he had it, the viral mutation in that body was a real thing.
Tanaka rushed towards Yuki. His right hand grabbed Yuki's body, avoiding the girl from the zombie attack. Zombie bites are a dangerous thing and it's now on Tanaka's right hand. It wasn't a deep wound, but it was clear enough that Tanaka's right hand would become infected.
"Damn!"
"Tanaka!"
Dozens of zombies are still behind. Tanaka immediately chased away all the zombies there while an angry Yuki stepped on the zombie's head that managed to bite Tanaka. Conditions are still normal and not too aware of him at that time.
Yuki was in a panic while Tanaka was focused on the zombies. One thing Tanaka knew, they had to escape from that place. After killing enough zombies, Tanaka took Yuki immediately and brought her to the roofs. As Tanaka usually does, the roof is a shortcut in the apocalypse. No one would protest if their house was trampled and Tanaka's physical abilities were the biggest contributing factor.
They managed to get out of a dangerous situation, but they knew that there was one other thing that was even more dangerous. Infection in Tanaka's hands.
"Tanaka, your hand... Your hand!"
"Shhh, I'm fine. How are you?"
Tanaka, the person who didn't want to care about his wound, brought up the topic. Yes, the fact that he was bitten was already known. However, for him it was a second matter.
"No, Tanaka, you will be--"
"I didn't. You know that I wasn't detected by zombies. I also seem to be immune from this virus!"
Tanaka reassured Yuki. On the other hand, Yuki herself felt that it was all her fault. The girl felt that it was her carelessness and stupid actions that made Tanaka like that. She began to develop a feeling of guilt, bigger and bigger every time her eyes looked at the wound.
"I'm fine. What should we do? I'm sorry!"
An unorganized line of words came out of Yuki's mouth. She was confused about what to do since she had caused such a big problem and she also apologized as an overflow of guilt. Trembling, a feeling of restlessness accompanies.
"Tanaka!"
Haruka came.
"Alright Haruka, bring Yuki back to base now!"
"Wait, your hand!"
"Shhh, tell the others I'm out for work!"
Haruka immediately realized the situation. She looked at Yuki who was already in tears. Yes, the fact that someone precious had wounds from zombies made the girl feel bad.
"Okay, you come back when you feel better!"
Haruka knew that the wound was similar to the one she had. However, she is also confident that Tanaka's body would be able to withstand the viral infection. She is confident because she knew that if she even could do it, then Tanaka would do even better.
Yuki was pulled by Haruka, headed towards the base. Yuki wanted to refuse and return to Tanaka to do something, but she also didn't know what to do. She was limp and a little frozen. Her mouth was locked when she realized that Tanaka was going to become a zombie.
The two people left, now left one sitting leaning against the wall. The infection in his hand felt, but it wasn't as bad as what he thought would be. A tingling sensation and something moving can be felt in the bloodstream. Tanaka had tried to let out bleeding from the wound, but some of the saliva had already managed to enter the body.
The rope tied the hand and the pole. This is done if only the worst case scenario occurs. Yes, one of the scenarios is that Tanaka can't hold the virus and turns into a zombie. However, he wasn't sure whether he had an antivirus or not. All Tanaka knew was that his metabolism and immunity were strong.
"Damn it, if I really became a zombie, Yuki would definitely blame herself like a crazy girl!"
The last words Tanaka spoke before he finally fell asleep. An open place, zombies roaming around and a sleeping Tanaka.
No, he's not dead. He's the main character, I'll tell you that in case you forgot. He was only asleep because his brain responded to the wound as a threat. Basically, Tanaka's brain processes the body's deficiencies by sleepiness. If he is tired, he is sleepy. If he feels sick, he is sleepy. If he feels unwell, he is sleepy. Basically like a normal human, only it is more extreme.
In the afternoon, all members of the Fire Nebula camp were already at the base, except for Tanaka. Endless worry can be felt in one of the people walking up and down. Uncertain anxiety.
"Yuki, sit here!"
"Shut up! Tanaka, I have to go to Tanaka's place now!"
Yuki and Haruka, these two girls were in front of the gate waiting for Tanaka. Previously, they had managed to outwit the other members by saying that Tanaka found something important and he was there for some moment. So, only two people knew about the fact that Tanaka was bitten by a zombie.
"Yuki, come back here or I'll force drag you!"
Haruka's irritated tone made Yuki follow the mood.
"If so then go for it. I can't leave Tanaka alone, it's my fault!"
"Yuki, come here and calm down. I'm sure he's fine!"
"Ha? What are you talking about! How can he be okay? Don't talk nonsense when you haven't even been bitten by a zombie yourself!"
Yuki's words came out. Basically, she felt both worried and guilty. There are two debates going on in her mind, the first is the belief that Tanaka survived and the belief that Tanaka is in the process of zombification. Right now, Yuki was convinced that Tanaka was in the process of zombification because her phone calls weren't picking up at all.
However, Yuki's last sentence hurt Haruka's feelings a bit. A secret that Yuki didn't know yet, it was Haruka's weakening condition. It's all caused by a virus in her body. Yes, she wanted to say ‘yes’ and make the stubborn girl sit quietly to wait for the recall.
"What if I say yes?"
"Ha? What are you saying!"
Both pairs of eyes stared at each other, Haruka was serious. The atmosphere became a bit heavy as Yuki fell silent. No out-glances at all from either of them.
"Yo!"
And suddenly, from behind Yuki, appeared the unexpected Tanaka.
"Tanaka!"
Haruka was the first to react to calling out to the man. Yuki who was the mastermind behind this incident was silent. She wanted to apologize as she had thought about it. However, when the person she wanted to meet was right behind, Yuki couldn't utter a word at all.
"Tanaka~"
She cried instead. Crying in the sign of happiness, as well as a way of expressing apologies. Haruka and Tanaka just looked at each other, they understood how the girl felt. In short, Haruka gave a gesture that explained how the situation was.
The day went on normally. Tanaka, although not zombified, still has the virus running around in his body. Yuki, who had experienced an unstable mental state, finally realized what she was doing was wrong. However, Tanaka and Yuki had a brief discussion about what the two of them should do. Yup, that's why Tanaka promised to take Yuki out tomorrow to train.
Night came, everyone was in their deep sleep except for three people, Haruka, Makise and Tanaka. They are in one room and the secret is out. It was a secret that didn't really matter, but it took Makise by surprise. It was the incident when Tanaka was bitten. However, that night, the main concern was Haruka who was getting weaker and the swelling in her hand was getting worse.
"Haruka, can you still feel it?"
"Nii-chan, that hurts. All my bones feel empty. Aghh, this is annoying!"
"Makise, get the painkiller in the medical room... Here's the key!"
Makise with a heavy and troubled feeling nodded in agreement to take the thing that Tanaka wanted. In the room, there are now two people left.
"So, how does it feel when you get bitten, nii-chan?"
"It hurt, but soon after I fell asleep. I don't know what happened, but when I woke up, the wound was gone!"
"Hehe, I'm so jealous of that bless of yours!"
"Haruka, hold on. I'll try to find a way!"
"Hehe..."

There was a time when heroes roamed between the Four Great Cities. They fought for kingdoms and princesses and they lived and died by their valour. Or so the stories say. The way the minstrels sing it, everyone had a swashbuckling good time. Nowadays, buckles are rarely swashed. All the great beasts have been slain, all the great treasures unearthed. Princesses are few and far between — the ones worth fighting over, anyway — and the kingdoms have been divvied up between the sons of sons of sons of the heroes of old. No valour required. The Complete Alchemyst book 2
Continuation of the Alchemyst book 1 Sometimes to be the good guy, you gotta be the bad guy. This is a story about Louis, a guy that was just trying to get along before he got kidnapped and forced to play cook by a Cartel. He's no Heisenberg, however. Now that he's out of Prison and put a beat down on some of the folks that put him away, he's facing the real pressures of Life as a single-person superpower: Everyone wants to use him for their own purposes. Along the way he's met a few girls, some good, some bad. He's looking to save the world, establish an evil empire, secure a future for the people he considers his, and maybe finally kill that damned superhero that started it all. This is not 'the boys'. Not all superheroes or supervillains are evil, The 'super' world is expanding to include aliens, magic, and the children of ancient deities and legends. This is NOT a superhero genre deconstruction. Many heroes truly are heroes, and they don't all need to be destroyed to make a good story, but it does look into the dark side of superpowers and the unreasonable and often contradictory demands placed on exceptional people. Please note that this book has extremely graphic and sometimes gross fight scenes, heroes as villains, villains as heroes, opinionated and often politically incorrect characters, some graphic sex scenes, dad jokes, dirty jokes, realistic depictions of romance and flirting, bondage and dominance themes, and more than a few cuss words when they are really appropriate.
