《Must I Go Out to Survive This?》First Vol - Chapter 2 - New Training

If a room is dirty and full of dust, what will you do? I mean, if it's about cleaning, I want to do it too, especially if it's my own room. However, priority is a thing. Yes, this keeps the order of things I have to do in order. Mastering this damn game is my first priority, room cleanliness later!
[Pehoooo~ Pehoooo~]
Phone ringtone sound, this must be from Taki. Lately, only Taki dared to call or do anything else about calling my contact. Well, from the start, the other kids, besides Yuki, never did it anyway.
"Hello!"
[Master, please, quickly go downstairs!]
Ugh, actually I wanted to say something about that 'master' namecall to me. Honestly it bothers me. But, if she feels better with it, so be it.
According to what she asked, I went downstairs to check. It was the exact room I had imagined. Full of wires and equipment I don't know what to do with it.
"Master!"
"Yo, Taki. How do I use it?"
That's right, I've never tried things like this.
"Come here, I'll teach you, little by little~"
"Wait, don't use that tone! I told you, all around us are high school kids!"
Honestly she, is truly a person who doesn't care about around.
It was the morning, yes, I should still be playing the game. However, for some reason, I went downstairs to work like a camp leader. Taki taught me how to operate a small radio station. During the few hours I studied, I finally managed to understand the basics.
"Okay, I'm pretty familiar with how to do broadcasting. It's just that I still don't understand the configuration!"
"You don't have to worry about that. I'll take care of it. Oh yeah, I just realized, it turns out that our satellite phone has a GPS feature and I found hundreds of articles and other types of accurate information... Look!"
Taki pointed her satellite phone in my face. She pointed out the GPS feature which allows mobile phones to track each other's location. While there are positional inaccuracies up to the standard of two kilometers, according to the description, this still is a helpful feature. In this way, each of us can find out each other's location. It would definitely be annoying if this feature was made for the public use while the world was still running normally, but it's an important feature for us right now!
"Then, what kind of information is there?"
"Wait a minute, I just found a lot of information about zombies and mutants... Also the condition of some countries, in a simple desc... Here it is!"
Taki browses the file explorer on the computer. I think she managed to get this computer connected to the satellite the way a satellite phone works. She's really smart at this.
"...There are about two million blessed scattered in the world. For now, about a quarter of them managed to survive. Wait, I thought that blessed was something rare!"
"Well, two million compared to thirteen billion obviously has a huge distribution difference, master. While it's true that there are about five hundred thousand blessed in this world, if divided evenly, each country only has 2500 blessed. Even in our small country, that number is still very small!"
That's right, I was too hasty to conclude.
"Humu, but this information is considered less accurate because it doesn't have a strong base and also the samples they took were only from one region. Well, it must be very difficult to be a researcher at a time like this!"

"Everyone is in trouble at this time. Maybe only you, master, who doesn't feel it!"
This woman, even though she calls me like an obedient girl of typical hentai, her words are sarcastic to me.
"Well, well, some of the others don't seem to have any trouble, do they? They just feel the pleasure they want!"
"Wait, somehow I feel that master is like offending me. Did I said something wrong?"
"That was not a bad one actually... On the contrary, it is right. However, one minute from now, there's a certain part of my body that's feeling troubled. Would you mind helping out?"
"Moo... So early in the morning when the others haven't even woken up yet!"
And I did it again. Well, basically we like doing it for each other's pleasure, so I guess that's fine.
The sun was shining now, faintly through the back window I had left open. Yes, the room I'm in right now is the downstairs room.
"Master, what are you going to do after this?"
Taki, who was beside me, asked. Well, that's right, I don't have any agenda for the moment. All I have are my games and practice games.
"I guess I'll just stay in the base. I don't have anything else to do, I mean, most of the food is already inedible, I definitely can't bring them home. Also, most of the secondary stuff is already in the base. Even though there are some tasks left, they don't need too hurry to do. It's Saturday anyway, I'm going on vacation today!"
"Kids are like that too, they don't seem to have anything else to do. Hey, how about we make a new training program? I mean, we'll get them used to the dangers and stuff!"
That's right, I just realized it.
Because I focused on my abilities, they became neglected in part of my mind. Taki's right, I have to make such a program.
"Yup, I'll give it a try later!"
"So, what are you going to do now?"
"... Maybe, I will take one more order!"
"Ehhhh!"
~~~
'They're so loud, man!'
Yuki, she is a high school girl, back then. Even so, she already knew what was really going on in the room in front of her. Yes, she knows Tanaka and she knows Taki. They know each other and they know how the relationships are. It's not a love triangle that often creates a lot of drama, no, it's a lust triangle that creates a lot of adult things to happen.
‘Skip!'
Yuki retracted the intention to knock on the bedroom door. At first she had intended to tell Taki that breakfast was ready, but since the timing wasn't in her favor, Yuki went back.
"Oo, Yuki-chan, didn't you want to call Taki-sensei?"
Kanji, the talkative person from Yuki's point of view, was devouring the girl's food. He was the fourth person to wake up that morning.
"Well, she's still focused on her activities... Do you want to add some rice?"
"Humu, of course!"
At 06:33 in the morning, most living beings woke up, starting to wake up from their dreams. Whether it's humans, animals or plants, except for zombies and mutants who are more active at night. One of the humans is Yuki, she is currently with Okata looking at the vast area of land that is just waiting for the time to be ready.
"Five days, now is the second day. I think we'll continue the project on the 23rd!"
That is the estimate of Okata's of the time for the fertilizer to sink into the soil. They do this for plant growth. With nutritious soil, the growth of plants there will be good. And vice versa, if the soil dies, then the plant growth becomes bad or even the soil kills them.
Okata and Yuki returned to the boarding house. They had no other work after they finished checking and watering the vast land. Yuki is now in front of the door of the room where there is a sound similar to what she heard earlier. The activity didn't stop, that's what Yuki had in mind.
"Hugh!"
She is angry.
"Tanaka, Taki, hurry out! Breakfast is ready and stop doing that in the morning! Get to work!"
Yuki kicked the door and then went upstairs. The people who were in the room came out. They came out feeling confused.
"I think I overdid it. Sorry Taki!"
"No, me too!"
Now everyone was awake, it was 07:02 am and Yuki was in her room. She was angry at the thought of what had just happened.
"Damn it, do adults only think about sex and sex!"
The girl grumbled in the room. Locking herself in was her way of calming down. Even though it was said to be calming, Yuki herself couldn't find it to be a proper reassurance. Her mind was constantly distracted by something. She had another personality in her, and their standings were still quite far apart.
"And she said he loved me!"
When the apocalypse first came, Tanaka and Yuki were the first to meet in this place. The two of them were also the first two people in the Fire Nebula camp. It was then that Tanaka and Yuki had a special relationship. So, it's normal for her to feel that way, I guess.
There was no work to be done then. Just maintenance of a few things to make the facility work. However, at 8:20 am, Tanaka suddenly announced to all the members that they would be training against real zombies. Everyone heard that except for Yuki, who was sleeping in the locked room instead.
"... So it's like that, any questions?"
In short, Tanaka announced about what all the members had to do. They should wear clothes made of thick cloth to minimize the chance of being bitten or infected. Haruka, Rai and Kanji set an example for them. Yes, this activity is carried out in congregation during the day. No one protested in the even slightest about this new agenda. Quite the contrary, they were somehow overjoyed to hear that they could fight off the zombies.
They were happy not because they had a psychotic illness, they just agreed that survival skills like that were needed. Yes, zombie apocalypse is not something that can be passed by people who can't bear to kill creatures that were once humans. Zombie apocalypse is a time where people have to get rid of compassion, but not humanity.
The training started, Tanaka, as the person who was supervising the course of the training deliberately didn't wake Yuki for some reason. He was worried that the girl would act like she used to. Tanaka and Yuki had been out together, that's when Tanaka knew that Yuki had a certain uniqueness when she was faced with something she was afraid of. Tanaka felt something bad if he had to let her go out.
If Yuki was really going to act as Tanaka thought, then there were two main things that were weighing on his mind. First is the possibility that Yuki is putting herself in danger. The second is that the others will be in trouble because of Yuki. Basically, Yuki herself is allowed to leave the camp area, but only to the extent that the surrounding area is relatively safe.
That afternoon, Taki and the high school kids went out to clean up the zombies around. Taki becomes a mentor because she has experience as a policeman, Haruka helps her as a person who often goes out with Tanaka. It could be said that the only ones who were inexperienced in this matter were Okata and Makise. Even though Haruka often works outside with Tanaka, this job is very hard for her. This is a test when a soldier is given the duty of a leader.
Likewise for Taki, she still finds it difficult to strategize when dealing with hordes of zombies. In contrast to Tanaka who uses a strategy called 'Human Bait' where another comrade, Haruka, becomes bait for the zombies. Tanaka would finish them off without moving much, just needing to stay close to the bait. Cruel tactics actually, but that's the risk of being ignored by zombies. Another friend will be the target.
"Taki, how's the situation over there?"
[Not too good or bad. But I can still go on! Okata got a bite earlier, but the bite didn't penetrate into the body!]
"If anyone is tired then call me. I'll be there in a minute!"
That's what this stupid supervisor said. At first, Tanaka took part in activities to see as well as be a helper in the event that something unexpected happened. However, he finally came back, feeling that everything would be fine. Well, it's going to be fine actually. It's just that Tanaka's motivation to come back is just to...
"Finally I won!"
Playing games.
Brak, the sound of the door slamming loudly, came from Tanaka's room. Yuki was the culprit.
"Tanaka, everyone disappeared!"
She was the only person who didn't take part in the training.
Tanaka, as the one who knew the reason for the other members' existence, explained to Yuki what had happened. In short, Yuki was not happy to hear that. The simple reason was because she wasn't woken up and notified earlier. The complicated reason was because she wasn't allowed to participate in such things.
Tanaka realized that, so he then tried to trick Yuki into calming her down. The thing that Tanaka was worried about was Yuki's nature which would most likely put her in a dangerous position, if she were to follow that program. However, Tanaka couldn't say it directly. Tanaka outwitted her with games and solicitations.
"Promise me about it!"
"Fine, fine, I promise!"
Promise made. The promise was that Tanaka would take Yuki out after Yuki could do thirty push-ups without a break. Interestingly, even though it doesn't look like it, Yuki is the physically weakest member in the camp. Even though Makise looks feminine, she's still a girl who does exercise. In contrast to Yuki, who in her teens just stayed in her room.
To pass the freetime, Tanaka and Yuki played again. No, Tanaka still couldn't win the match against Yuki.
Taki on the other hand is currently going through a rough patch. The pain in her stomach recurred and that afternoon they agreed to return to base. The total number of zombies they managed to kill was 233 and a total of 5 lethal attacks they got. That was quite a high kill number, but it was clear that the number of 5 zombie bites managed to inflict could kill them instantly. That was the scenario that would have happened if they weren't wearing thick vests and costumes.
Saturday, June 19, 2050, the first training was over. The next training is June 20th, which is more or less the same as before. However, some major changes occurred.
The person who changed the most was Makise. To think that the girl could get used to blood in just two days. At first, she was a timid girl who hesitated when she was about to hit a zombie. However, after certain events, zombies are a punchbag for her. Likewise for Okata who managed to learn various proper ways to dodge.
On the other hand, when other people study, Yuki is feeling more jealous. She couldn't make it to the 20th push-up, so obviously Tanaka hadn't allowed Yuki to go outside. This has a bad impact on Yuki.
At the hang out time, the stories that other people had were about how they had experienced in the training, but not for Yuki who was just listening. Envy appeared in Yuki's mind. She also wants to tell stories, wants to feel and wants to have experiences.
Evening arrived, and as usual, Tanaka and the others were just doing their bit. Tanaka, this time by himself, learned about information that he might not be able to get when the internet was still a thing.
"So basically this type of ability of mine doesn't exist, huh!"
Undetected by zombies while having a strong physique. It is not listed in the existing bless list. Obviously it was something strange for Tanaka. Isn't that ability is a blessing?
"There's no case of a blessed tattoo being in the internal organ. Hmmm, I guess I didn't have a bless in the first place!"
Tanaka's mind was now fixed on one thing, an explanation regarding abilities that were not a blessing.
[Even so, there are some people who have super small tattoos on their certain body parts!]
One sentence brought Tanaka back to his original thoughts.
"Maybe this is my case. That's right, I have some kind of scar. Maybe this is a sign of my blessing!"
The black wound in the abdomen, that is what is meant. Tanaka never remembered having any marks or scars on it. Tanaka's conclusion was fixed on one, he was still a blessed one.
"But still I'm overpowered!"
It's just that he felt he got a bundle package.
Night swallows time. Everyone's feelings are different at that time. Unknown serenity. Even though it's calm all around, out there, far away in a foreign land, there are thousands of people who are struggling for life.
Monday arrived, a day that may not be liked by the majority of people. However, in apocalypse time, all days feel the same.
On that day, Tanaka will be bitten by a zombie.
Divine Progress
Progress is a dubious god. After failing him, three people are banished from modern times and sent to another world. Seemingly out of place, Christoph is snatched from his own time and plunged into a world of violence and magic with no deity to lend him support. Instead, Progress has seen fit to curse him with an eternal hunger for magical energy. Branded as a demon, he must fight for survival while battling the servants of the god who sent him there, struggling against the 'gift' that Progress bestowed upon him and the past he sought to abandon. Can he make his way across the lands and gather enough strength to survive without the blessings of the Divine? Or will the gods bend him to their will, breaking him if he seeks to resist? This is not a short story, and the plot will take many twists and turns before Christoph's journey comes to a close. After all, it is not the destination, but the Progress that matters in the end. Like many other stories on RoyalRoad, this is my first piece. Feedback is more than welcome, so please leave a reply if you have a comment or question.
