《Must I Go Out to Survive This?》Chapter 29.1 - New People
Advertisement
Two days passed. There is a big change in it.
A big change from a camp that initially served no purpose. A camp that now has a vision because of its leader who is aware of the conditions of the world.
"We have to secure the surrounding area!"
A new mission aimed not at one person. Missions that were required of some people in the camp.
"But, why is it just the two of us, Tanaka-sama?"
"For some reason. Therefore, it's just the two of us who are in charge of securing the surrounding area. I have blessings and you have martial arts. Other people in the camp are still incapable of doing this mission! Also, stop using the suffix '- same' to me!"
The number of people referred to is only a number of two. Tanaka and Haruka.
"Can't Rai and Kanji also come along. I mean, they're ready to fight too!"
"Well, they can indeed come. However, since they are new to the surroundings. That's why I told the two of them to practice and get used to the surroundings first... We've arrived!"
The truck stops. Tanaka and Haruka came out to face the barricades at a fork in the road. The T-junction where Tanaka had previously seen the gore thing.
"This is really bad. To think this area would turn out like this!"
"That was also my impression when I first saw it... However, now we have to focus on that moving target. Remember Haruka, don't get bitten even if you already have armor on!"
"Of course!"
They both then act. Slaughter the zombies around while setting up barricades on the streets that zombies can pass.
Tanaka and Haruka became closer. This is because of several previous events.
The incident where Tanaka realized that Haruka wasn't the yankee girl he thought she was. Likewise Haruka who realizes that Tanaka is not an arrogant person. Both come to their senses after Makise's rescue.
The moment after Tanaka rescued the trapped students, he couldn't help but make room for them. It was Tanaka's morals that was the reason why he did that.
Rai and Kanji are initially not accepted by Tanaka to enter the camp. However, considering the opinions of Yuki, Haruka and Taki, the two of them were accepted.
Okata was still unconscious at that time and only woke up on June 14th. One day after the rescue of the students. This man was still in a very vulnerable and weak condition. It took him about a week to recover, said Taki, a health worker at Fire-Nebula Camp.
Makise, Haruka's friend and the main goal of the rescue target, is currently in the camp because her body is still not conducive enough to be outside. In addition, Makise is also the type of person who prefers to be in a safe and useful place in other fields. Therefore, she chose to become a camp administrator rather than combatants who are ready to face the apocalypse.
That's the short story of the four new people at Fire-Nebula Camp.
"Hey, are you okay?"
"No, I'm having a hard time... But I'm fine!"
Tanaka is currently protecting Haruka from dozens of incoming zombies. Haruka herself is doing her job, namely installing barricades and connecting them with the welding method to make them stronger.
The wind howled quite hard in the afternoon. The sound of the river water can be heard quite clearly. The zombies are still the same as usual. Dodge Tanaka and switch to another target.
"You know, I sometimes get bored of beating up these zombies that don't even attack,"

Tanaka started a new topic of conversation. He poured his heartily thoughts out to Haruka. The outpouring of someone who doesn't have the right to it.
"They didn't attack you. But they aimed at me. I'm the one who feels jealous of you, Tanaka-sama!"
Thanks to Tanaka's words, Haruka gasped and responded quickly. It was true that Haruka herself hoped to be able to have abilities in this apocalypse.
"Well, maybe that's true. Hope there will be a follow-up blessing. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones... Besides, once again, stop using the '-sama' suffix against me!"
One zombie escaped by Tanaka. He purposely let the zombie go because of its slow movement. Haruka understood that Tanaka meant 'attack this zombie or you are a weakling'.
"...Well, I hope so. Maybe if I'm lucky, I can get a type of bless that makes my skin as hard as steel. Hey, do you know that Totem of Steel? Yes, a blessing like his!"
Totem of Steel, the nickname of someone who gets a hardening type bless. Thanks to this blessing, he was able to compete against Mutant Tanks in a balanced way. This Blessed used to be a trending topic because he was a former actor who suddenly became very powerful. However, lately, no more information has been heard from him due to the problem of global communication being cut off.
"It would be nice if it was like that. My Bless isn't that strong, but I'm sure in times like this, my Bless is more useful than his!"
"Yup, with your blessing you can become a food supply slave,"
Haruka casually mocked Tanaka who served as the main supplier in the camp. Tanaka who heard it could only glance at the high school girl while beating the zombies that came.
"Whoa!"
"Haha,"
The afternoon wind blows to the north. The streets are still littered with zombie corpses and human corpses. There are only two big lives that can be realized there, Tanaka and Haruka.
Man-made fences, or rather Tanaka and Haruka, are now blocking several points around the boarding house area. The radius of the fence that Tanaka plans to install is about two kilometers from the boarding house area. In total there are ten points that must be barricaded and gated. An area security plan designed by Tanaka thanks to an idea that came up while going to the North camp.
"It takes about an hour and forty minutes for one major road. There are four major roads and five medium roads. We might need two working days, don't we, Tanaka-sama?"
Two people in the vehicle, one driving and one reading a map. Haruka confirmed the estimated time needed for the barricade project that the two of them were currently running.
"Yeah, that's roughly the time I'd expect if it went smoothly. Besides, and please, stop using the '-sama' suffix against me!"
Tanaka explained while dodging obstacles. They were heading south, where the T-junction that led to the boarding street was located. The actual residential area is still a bit full of zombies.
"Yeah, yeah. Then I'll start calling you the way Taki-sensei calls you, master~"
With a tone that made it seem sexy, Haruka spoke. Tanaka who heard it couldn't help but keep driving the truck he was driving. Despite a strange tingling feeling in his hands, Tanaka still managed to drive well.
"Haruka, your voice tickles me and to be honest you don't fit into that voice. Don't call me 'Tanaka-sama' or 'master' like that. Find another nickname, please!"

With a tone full of pleading Tanaka replied. Haruka, who felt offended, could only put on a half-caring face. The girl then thought of something, thought of a nickname that would make Tanaka feel ridiculed.
"How about 'onii-chan'?"
A very mocking tone escaped Haruka's mouth. Tanaka, however, responded with silence. For some reason, he was silent for a while and felt that the nickname 'onii-chan' suited him very well. This man once had a dream of having a younger sister, so he took advantage of it.
"...Sounds good!"
"Tch, you perverted uncles!"
Even though Tanaka looked like he was in his 20s, he was actually more than that. This fact was only known by a few people in the camp, to be more precise only known to Haruka and Taki.
"No uncle, call me 'onii-chan'!"
"Okay, okay, onii-chan~"
The tone that Haruka made would normally irritate others. However, since Tanaka's mood was normal, or more favorable, he just sat there while evaluating it.
An assessment of how an 'onii-chan' call was pronounced by that high school girl.
"Twenty per hundred!"
Without hesitation Tanaka squeaked.
"Hey, don't be graded like it's a singing test!"
"Yosh, we've arrived. By the way, it was zero because there was no 'onii-chan' ending!"
Still in his evaluator mode, Tanaka assessed Haruka's call. The truck door opened and the welcome of the three zombies came towards Tanaka, or rather towards Haruka who was level with Tanaka.
"Hey, I told you not to judge. Besides, I don't want to always call you 'onii-chan' this... Hey!"
Haruka responded to Tanaka in which the man just came out as if he didn't care what she said. The girl became a bit annoyed by the behavior of the creature she thought was a living uncle.
"Zero again!"
"Aghhhh, why are you teasing me so much, damn it!"
A long tone is heard at the end of a syllable. The voice actually summoned the zombies around. However, since Haruka herself already had her clothes lined up and beside her was a person with the power to eradicate hundreds of zombies without getting hurt, she neither hesitated nor was afraid to do so.
"Negative two hundred, rude words are not allowed!"
"Shut up and let's get to work... nii-chan!"
A long pause formed. Haruka followed Tanaka while uttering a new nickname that for some reason was considered official and legitimate by both parties.
"Woo, it's fifty-five now. I'll keep watch again, my brother!"
Dozens of zombies came out one after another from the corner of the alley. Several others followed. Tanaka just grinned strangely at the zombies that appeared. Or perhaps, he was grinning at having managed to tease Haruka even more.
"Nii-chan, don't call me that in front of the others, okay!"
Haruka's resigned tone deafened the ears of the zombies. It was not because they had sympathy, but because they knew who was prey and who was of a kind.
"I don't know, isn't that up to me!"
With Tanaka's flat tone, a vile person, this scared Haruka who was taking out the barricade that was in the truck. The zombies were thrown back to where they were before. The culprit was obviously Tanaka.
“Husu, husu, my life has become even more miserable because of this!”
Sounds of artificial sobs were heard. Haruka herself wanted to cry because she felt that her fate was so unfortunate that she had to meet Tanaka who turned out to be such a person. However, her own body did not support such a crybaby-looking activity. She just vented her feelings by slightly slamming the things to be installed.
That afternoon, two people in a certain town were doing project work. The wind has stopped blowing now. Sometimes the tops of the trees sway, indicating the wind is at a higher altitude. There is no chirping of birds at all, but the sound of hitting and slamming soft objects can be heard.
If you could say, the stench is a thick aroma perched there. However, the two people who worked there didn't care about that at all. One is because they are used to it, the other is because they have a high tolerance. They are humans who can still be called humans there. Others are often called zombies.
Such a peaceful day. Or maybe it looks more 'peaceful' in the apocalypse and in a certain place.
~~~
I am Rai. I have a dream to become an entrepreneur in the field of electronics, especially in the field of mobile phones. I study hard because I am a person who is serious about pursuing my goals. However, it shattered the instant I saw it, those cannibals called zombies. This is the apocalypse.
"Hey Kanji, isn't Matsuo being weird!"
I'm currently in class. Being in a chaotic and bloody classroom, just looking at one of my best friends turning weird. He was bitten by a cannibal in the neck a while ago.
"Damn it, these are real zombies. Rai, we have to escape!"
Kanji, he is my best friend too. Matsuo, Kanji and I are three close friends who happen to have the same favorite game. We both love RPG games with the theme of hunting monsters.
"B-but--"
"Hurry up!"
That pull, I still remember it very well. It was the pull that made my feelings shake. Fear, surprise, confusion and restlessness. My best friend, Kanji, pulled me out of the class which was in chaos because of some cannibals who entered the room. The ones who bit my other best friend, Matsuo.
Me and Kanji managed to get out of the classroom. It was something a friend should not do. Leaving the others in the midst of chaos and trying to save themselves.
"W-wait, are you serious, this is a zombie?"
At that time, I was still trying to pull Kanji back towards the class. I still feel that I can save my best friend, as well as Kanji's best friend, from the cannibal's clutches. I'm sure there's still a way to save him.
"Rai, look around you... Look, that person over there... She's been bitten on the neck. Wait a moment and see... She's become like 'them'. Obviously this is a zombie like the one in the movies- film!"
I can't believe it. A girl, short hair, hairstyle I like. She lay on the ground, lying down with blood still dripping from her neck. Normally, she would have died in that state. However, strangely, she got back up. Wake up and be one of them.
And, I just remembered. She is Uesada Reiko. She is the girl in the volleyball club. I used to propose to her, but it turns out she already has a boyfriend. In the end we never saw each other again.
Damn, I can't think. Kanji just pulled me, dodging one by one the cannibals called zombies, heading to places I didn't know. I've left Matsuo too far. The hallway behind the building was already filled with zombies. There's no going back.
If indeed this is a zombie apocalypse, then there is no other way. I'm sorry, Matsuo. Forgive me!
"Kanji... we're going to the warehouse! I'm sure there's a way out!"
The stomping of my feet provided enough friction to make my friend wake up. I was reminded of many important things. Back then, when I was in first grade, I remember that I prepared an escape plan in case there was a terrorist attack or anything related. That's right, the area behind the school aka the warehouse area. There, I remember that there is a ladder that can be used to escape from the siege of this school wall.
"You're back Rai! Alright, then we head to the back warehouse!"
Step by step and corpse by corpse we passed. I don't care what my conscience says anymore. If I save them, I will be the one who will be harmed. I still want to live, I still have to live, I will still live!
"Hey, here!"
A voice calling out came from the right of the hall. I know him, he is Rakiru, the man who was the head of the student organization and arguably the strongest person in this school, followed by the gym teacher, Mr. Isei.
"What are you doing, Rakiru!"
One other person, he is Kuro. I don't know him very well, but I know that he has the nickname of a thug in this school. I think it's just a rumor.
"He is my friend and I know him. He will be an important person if we can really survive here!"
From a distance, I can hear it. I think Kanji heard it too, but the two of us were still focused on our running speed. We were in a hurry because at the rear, the zombie army was already following and we knew that one attack from them was no different than dying.
"That's good, Rai and Kanji, right? We're going to the back shed to get the stairs. Do you want to come along?"
Very good thinking. No wonder that he was once dominantly chosen to be the student body president.
"That's our plan too!"
I know, with Rakiru then this plan will definitely go well. It's just, I'm not sure about the other people who followed him. I hope no one acts recklessly.
"Good, let's hurry!"
At first, Kanji and I were the only ones running. Now, there was Rakiru and a dozen other students running together. I don't know if this will end well or not. The most important thing right now is to avoid this cursed classroom corridor area as soon as possible!
...
Zombies. They are students who are bitten. Still wearing their school uniforms covered in blood. There is no sign of sanity in this individual. All they thought about was preying on the other students and increasing their numbers.
The plan is to go to the warehouse behind the school to find a way to escape. At this point, we arrived in front of the warehouse. It was the wrong decision.
"Aaaaaaaa!"
One of the female students screamed hysterically when she saw one of the male zombies. I could confirm that because she was pointing at the zombie. I can guess that he is the boyfriend of this hysterical student.
"Hey, what are you doing, stop!"
The student who I think is a classmate ran towards the student she was pointing at. As expected, that zombie used to be an important person to the girl whose name I don't know. That stupid decision was made just like me a moment ago who wanted to save Matsuo if it wasn't stopped by Kanji who is indeed a rational person.
"Shit, what should we do!"
The Rakiru I know is calm, now is stomping his feet hard. The woman who was hugging the male zombie was now surrounded. There is no way to save her. Just letting it go is the best way for us and her.
Stuck, that's how I would describe it. Currently, we are in a position where forward is an army of zombies numbering in the tens, to the back there are hundreds of zombies hanging around, and left and right are just the walls and buildings that we passed. This is a dead end.
"Rakiru, we have to head to the classroom. I have a plan!"
Kanji, who had been silently following him, now opened his mouth. I knew he was a genius and it was clear that something in his mind wasn't stupid. Rakiru who also knew about Kanji's personal matters also seemed to obey. He nodded indicating that he agreed with what Kanji said.
"Let's head to class first!"
We ended up heading to the classroom closest to our original position around the warehouse. The classrooms were already empty, or rather there were only a few crippled zombies inside.
"Damn it, taste this!"
Kuro, he is a thug in this school. To be honest he wasn't a bad person, it was just that he had a rough environment and he was trained that way. He and Rakiru used to be enemies, but because they were classmates, it was easier for them to understand each other.
"Hey Kanji, what's your plan?"
Rakiru walked closer to me, or rather towards Kanji who was beside me. I currently feel unable to think further. I will leave all this to Kanji and Rakiru who can be more trusted.
"Look, we've seen that the front of the warehouse is full of zombies. My plan is to lure the zombies with things that might get them out of there. This is just my theory, but I think they're attracted by loud noises!"
"Then what are we going to do?"
"Here's the plan, I brought a cell phone which can tune loudly. This is the item I will use to lure the zombies out!"
"You mean you're just going to throw your expensive cell phone in that direction!"
"Expensive or not, it has nothing to do now. The most important thing is that we must be able to take the stairs out of there and get out of this damn school!"
I can't get into this conversation. I just stood there, watching my two friends give their crazy opinions in crazy situations too. The other students were just silent like me, only I could tell that they were feeling depressed for whatever reason.
"So, what are we going to do if your plan fails? There's no evidence that your theory will work the way you imagined it!"
Suddenly, a familiar voice rang out. He is Kuro. A man who has a rough style and has a vertical scar on his left lip.
"You're right, Kuro. If that's the case, I'll be the one to lure the zombies out!"
I heard it clearly. Someone's careless words which shouldn't be said. The words of my best friend who managed to escape together, Kanji.
"Wait, you didn't mean to kill yourself, did you?"
I'm worried about this conversation. Somehow I can't let someone who is a good friend of mine risk himself just for the sake of someone I don't even know part of.
"I didn't mean it like that. Even though the risk is very big, but I have to do
it!"
Words that are clearly unbelievable. What fool would believe that one could survive while working as live bait for zombies that could surround a person in mere seconds. It's clear that I'm not that stupid person to believe my friend's lies.
“I th-”
"Then just let me do it! I must be responsible for all of you!"
Rakiru cut me off. He said the same strange thing. What was he really thinking about being this bait?
"What are you saying, Rakiru! You are an important person in this group!"
Kanji with a slightly angry tone refused Rakiru's offer. I don't know what's going through those two's minds, but if it's true that there's someone to be sacrificed, then it should be someone else!
"You know, you two are important people in this group. Rakiru, you have the necessary leadership qualities. Kanji, you are important because you know various things related to firearms and other weapons. Therefore, how about we decide by jankenpon elimination ?"
I have to stop these two idiots. If I had to choose, then I'd pick two people I don't know to do it. However, it was clear that they would not agree. This kind of ancient game is the most appropriate answer I can think of.
"...That's a good idea. Then, everyone gathers here!"
Rakiru paused to think for a moment. The person who I think is recognized as the leader of this group then gives orders to the depressed looking people. I saw one very dangerous person. I didn't know who he was, but I knew that he wasn't a good person. I hope he is the chosen one in this game.
"Wait, we don't want to get involved in this!"
Someone, he's someone I don't know. Boy and glasses. He looked like the typical geek from his face and style when he adjusted his glasses. Most importantly, he refused this? Are they selfish or what? Damn it!
"Yeah, if you guys want to do it, then do it yourself!"
One student who was neither beautiful nor ugly added. These two are definitely the type of people who will fight for anything for themselves even if it means sacrificing others. I really don't like these people.
I have to straighten it out!
"If you don't want to come, then get out of this class now. Those of you who don't want to join are just losers. Don't you realize that you are being selfish with those words. After all, you were saved by Rakiru, your lives are in his hands!"
Kuro loudly warned the other students. Yes, it wasn't me who was meant to say, but it was Kuro. Unfortunately, the sound was loud enough that some of the zombies around the classroom started breaking down the classroom door.
"..."
Silent and sour. The faces of the students who initially refused my offer then tried to force themselves to let go.
The knock on the door became a terror in itself for my heartbeat. It felt like my body was in shock without any reaction to each sound. I'm sure other people feel it too, it's just that they're more focused on getting them out. I don't care about all this, if this is really going to be the end of my life, then it will be.
"It'd be best if we started. The zombies won't be waiting for us to argue empty-handed here!"
With my words, the jankenpon-type-elimination begins. The essence of this jankenpon is, if there are parties with fewer choices, for example, 'scissors' are chosen by four people, 'stones' are chosen by three people, and 'paper' is chosen by two people. Then the two people who choose the paper will be out of the elimination area until only one person remains.
"Hey, isn't it a bit unfair that only one person will sacrifice. How about we make a couple?"
The first phase of elimination has been carried out. Someone I didn't know gave such advice. To be honest I kind of disagree because I know the scenario that might happen if two people take it.
"Okay, I agree!"
Rakiru even agreed! Damn, I guess he's still in a state of anxiety so he doesn't think about this student rotten scenario. Whatever it is, Kanji and I have to get out of here!"
...
"Hey, why did I have to come to this session? Why don't you bastards be the victims!"
Kuro spoke. I feel sorry for him, but I'm more worried about my friend, Kanji. He's still in a game that's still ongoing.
"Didn't you agree with this yourself?"
One of the bespectacled students, the one who had refused earlier, gave a sarcastic response to Kuro. I can't say anything to get Kanji eliminated. I was the one who offered this game, so I obviously couldn't take such a decision lightly.
"Aghh, dammit!"
I've escaped. Now only three people are left playing jankenpon. Kanji, Kuro and the fat guy I don't know. I hope Kanji will be eliminated.
"Jan-ken-pon!"
Paper--paper--scissors. It is a pattern that is formed. Unfortunately the one who pointed the scissors was not Kanji, but the fat pig.
"Hoo, ho-ho. I'm out!"
I don't know why, but the feeling of pleasure from the fat guy really pissed me off. However, this game has been done fairly and without cheating.
"In that case, it's b
een decided that Kanji and Kuro are the ones who will come out to lure the zombies out!"
Rakiru declared the loser. Maybe, if Rakiru didn't agree about the two people being bait, then this wouldn't have happened. Damn it!
"Hurry up you two!"
The bespectacled student pushed Kanji away. I grabbed this damn hand and intended to hit it. However, I just ended up throwing the hand away while returning to the position where I was originally.
"Damn it, why did you do this? You guys must be cheating, right! Admit you bastards!"
I don't know why, but Kuro looks like he's angry and glances at a lot of people quickly. I think he really looks like a thug. Maybe this is the reason why people call him thugs.
"Kuro! This has already been decided. After all, it was you who agreed to this method from the start. You have to accept it!"
Rakiru, however, had already decided that. I don't really care about Kuro for real. I only care about Kanji.
"Bastard! I should have been eliminated. You bastard!"
I didn't think that Kuro could be that selfish. Back then, when he helped me from another school gang, I thought he was a good person. Did I misjudge? Or maybe this is what humans normally do when faced with a situation like this?
"Hurry and get out!"
The bespectacled student pushed Kanji again. I've prepared a punch in the face of this damned.
"Hey, did you guys forget? The plan was to use the phone first and if that doesn't work we'll both be out!"
The intention to hit me was delayed by Kanji's words. That's right, I forgot that the original plan was to lure the zombies out using the voice from Kanji's cell phone.
Wait, was I thinking wrong? I just realized, haven't I been a very selfish person?
"..."
The atmosphere became quiet. It wasn't that there was no sound, but rather that everyone in the class was silent. There was only the sound of a door slamming louder than before.
"Hey you damn Kanji. If this fails, I'll bait you into that sea of zombies. I don't care what happens to you, but I'll survive here!"
Bastard, I thought he was a good person. Turns out he was this kind of person. I totally misjudged it.
"Okay, but we'll see if my plan will work or not... I'll throw it through this window!"
Kanji tapped my shoulder. I don't know what he means, but I think he's trying to convey something important to me. What? Should I think more calmly?
Oh, that's right. I was panicking earlier. It is not good. I'll try to be more relaxed!
On the count of three, Kanji threw his cell phone out through the window that Rakiru was holding back. The song hasn't been played yet because it's given a special timer where only Kanji knows how. He's the one who knows about his cell phone, so it's normal, I guess.
Thanks to the squeaking sound of the windows being forced open, the zombies started coming towards this class. We all ducked under the table or whatever as long as it wasn't visible from the window. Looking down while waiting and hoping for the success of Kanji's plan.
[WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA~]
A very loud voice was heard. I could hear it very clearly, or more like, too loud.
"Graaaa!"
The sound of the footsteps of many people was heard. I can clearly hear the groans of women, men and even strange ones. Were they really hooked? Their voices sounded distant, so I guess it was.
"Hey, do you think they got hooked on that?"
The voice of a student beside me asked quietly. I can see her pretty face clearly. Unfortunately, she's a bit stinky. The smell of blood and other strange smells. Maybe the same smell as me.
"I don't know, let me rub it!"
I, whether consciously or not, immediately stood up and checked the situation outside. There were hundreds of zombies, or roughly what I could count. The zombies were indeed heading in the direction where Kanji's cell phone was thrown. This is something I was hoping for.
This plan worked.
"Hey you guys, get up slowly. We did it!"
Soft but clear my voice was spoken. I was about to tell the others that the plan Kanji said just now really worked.
One by one the others stood up to check the situation. The zombies had gathered at a point a bit far from our position and the warehouse.
"No one is talking loudly! We must move quietly!"
Rakiru as the leader of this group spoke with the same intonation and volume of voice that I spoke earlier. That's right, don't let there be a sound that is louder than the sound of Kanji's cell phone being thrown.
The door was opened by one of the students who was quite skinny. Rakiru came out first while being followed by the others. Kanji and I were still standing in front of the window, standing looking at the crowd of zombies who were being provoked by their cell phones.
He must have felt sad because the cell phone which contained a large collection and notes he had to throw away.
"Kanji, we'll find a better phone. Don't be sad!"
"Rai, you think I'm just someone who cares about my gadgets? I'm currently thinking that people we know are there. Even though we don't know each other closely, there are at least some of them who have become familiar with me… Well, luckily still There you are, Rai!"
His eyes were clearly watery. This man, or friend, or best friend that I have known for a long time just showed his sad feelings in front of me. I never thought that such a weapon enthusiast would vent his emotions like this.
"I know, after all, we have to go with the others. Once we get out of this school, we'll go back and bury them!"
I don't know the right words to calm him down. However, I think it's time to bring him back to his rational mind.
"... Yes!"
The classroom door is closed. It was me who did it. The two of us quietly went out to head to the stairs that Rakiru had prepared.
"Hey Rai, I think this is getting worse!"
Kanji spoke. When I turned around, I saw him. There were hundreds of zombies walking towards us and some towards the warehouse.
"Run!"
I say quietly and quickly. Kanji knew what he had to do, and so did I. We both ran towards the warehouse. When I took a closer look, there was a broken ladder next to the wall, lying below.
The two of us managed to get in, Rakiru still holding the barn door as if someone else was still outside.
Two other people came in. It was a student and a schoolgirl. I don't really know them, but it's clear that the boy had a problem with Kanji.
The barn door closed. Now there will be no more zombies that will terrorize us.
"Hey, we survived!"
With a cheerful gaze Rakiru showed it to me. I don't know what 'survival' he meant even though we didn't make it out of school, but I think he was happy that no one was zombie food.
"Yes, we survived!"
The happy smile was still clearly on the leader's face, Rakiru. I couldn't do anything but smile back and copy his words.
"Hey Kanji, we finally-"
"Now eat this!"
A hand. I don't know whose hand it was, but Kanji pointed it in my face. What is it really?
"O-oi, Kanji. This isn't funny. When did you take that piece of bloody zombie-"
"Would you like more?"
A piece of the leg. Blood was still flowing at the end of the cut. I saw it, Kanji's mouth was full of blood. It looks so disgusting.
"Kanji, what are you doing? Don't eat that thing-"
"Hey!"
Someone tapped my shoulder. The stench immediately stung in front of the face. I can't help it. I wanted to throw up, but something prevented me from doing so.
I turned around. The one who called me was Rakiru. One arm and leg were missing each.
"Can you get my body back?"
"Aaaaaaaa--"
Imagine waking up in a hospital room, you can barely move. No one comes when you call. The only other person present is a little boy, who is, surprisingly, more help than you would expect. What would you do? This is the exact situation Sally finds herself in. Almost immediately she discovers that nothing is what she thinks it is. Not the boy, not the hospital, maybe not even herself. She is in deep trouble and the consequences will be dire if she can’t find a way out. She is a fighter, though, and just doesn't quit. As a baseline human, she starts as the lowest of the low and has to claw her way up in spite of being tangled in a shifting web of schemes and plots. She has to do her best, and maybe her best is pretty good. As Sally uncovers more about her situation, she finds that she has to be smart and tough and that in this place she needs to depend on her friends, who are using her as much as she is using them. This book contains themes concerning life, death, and body functions, light swearing, minimal nakedness, and should be suitable for most. Some pertinent info: Ten Thousand Sallys is a complete novel of approximately 140 pages in 20 chapters. Around 80,000 words. not too long, and maybe too short. He was a boy, starving and unwanted in a desert town without a name, without a hope, and without a care for a lowly street rat. Dead in a gutter without even enough flesh on his bones to tempt the rats who were his neighbors. From such lowly beginnings springs greatness, for the God of Resurrection has seen fit to bless this pathetic wretch with a second chance at life. But Gods and men are cruel in equal measure, and the place of his rebirth is just as unfit for life as the scene of his first demise. Unbeknownst to man, and god alike a third-party stirs, lurching forth from beyond the stars something ancient stumbles upon something new and exciting. High above in the darkness beyond the firmament a great cyclopean eye turns its' baleful gaze upon the face of this world and finds it wanting...
