After the ranged defensor was... incapacitated, the bolts of energy started raining down on the enemy. And now the imps were the ones trying to keep their opponents from reaching our back lines, meanwhile i just kept clear of the battle and observed the one who summoned us, namely, the walking, seemingly human, artillery. It seems that they were counting solely on being able to stall the summoner while wiping the imps and then going in for the kill, because without their backline it didn's seem they had anymore ways of defending against ranged attacks, as a result it wasn't long until they faltered. After they were killed, quite gruesomely, by the imps, the summoner yelled again.
"STOP! ***** ** *** ****... Pick that one up and bring him here."
After receiving a direct order i had no choice but to do as he said and pick up the still unconscious man and drag him with some help by the five imps that remained.
"*****, follow me."
After some mumbling and a look of disgust directed to either us or our new prisoner, he just took off towards a dead end of the cave, or what i thought was a dead end, because after reaching it he just kept walking and passed trought the wall.
Huh, swords and shields but that level of concealment tech... this is one of those 'fantasy' weird worlds where everyone just forgets what 'research', 'test' and 'think' means ain't it? Well at least it isn't a 'me against the world because everyone i can't fuck is an arrogant idiot' world... I've just jinxed myself haven't i?
"HURRY!"
As i pass the 'wall' with the others in tow i notice just how big this place really is, it's easily a hundred meters up and there are gigantic pillars with houses in them forming some sort of city i can't see the end of.

"FASTER YOU IDIOTS!"
After being hurried we descend to ground level using stairs carved on the cave till the opening we just got out of, one of hundreds i can now see all over the cave... After some time walking the streets we finally arrive at what appears to be the stump of a pillar long fallen which has been turned into a jail, as we enter to leave the fainted man to the care of what i assume to be guards, after that we are brought to the front of a massive mansion constructed of some kind of red stone.
"Alright, the one of you who took down the enemy caster stay, the rest are dismissed."
As soon as he finishes speaking the other imps simply vanish leaving me alone.
"I see you are not a half mindless beast, which, for the amount i paid, should be the case, so tell me, do you have combat training?"
"Yes."
"And do you have experience with small or large scale battles?"
"I do."
"Leading troops?"
"Not the best."
"Hmmm... alright, i will double the pay you receive this time if you agree to come to my aid next time i call for you."
"Pact?"
"No need, i am a warlock of my word, as are all hellspawn, right?"
"Catch?"
"You are smart, i will need that smart for a while, soon."
"Well... I suppose i have nothing to lose. Alright."
"Goodbye then. Dismiss."

The Perfect Specimen
ON PAUSE: FURTHER INFORMATION BELOW In a world where zombies are common and everything is evolving to acclimate with radiation, our Main Character has a special trait about him that helps him acclimate and evolve with the harsh conditions as well. But where will that lead him, and will that be enough? Take a look into my mind for what I like to consider "The Perfect Specimen" Original posting can be found at https://www.webnovel.com/book/11219113306294805/The-Perfect-Specimen ------------------------------------------------ It's my first novel and I am writing here to just get some feedback. Please don't hold back and give me everything you got. I'll take mindless rants and very constructive good criticism. I just appreciate the fact that you took the time to read and review if you did! Further update. This novel is now on pause. I have been taking everything in from the experience of writing this novel, both positive and negative feedback. I will revisit this novel in the future after I get a more concise picture of what direction to take it in. In the meantime, I am going to be writing another novel on my own time and after I finish it, I will begin the daily upload process. After I finish, I will come back and revise this story on my own time and re-post it after fixing everything I want to fix. Thank you all so much for reading, I will be back with this and more stories in the future. Until then, be on the lookout for me! :)

Shaman
*** Let's get this clear now: the MC is a trans woman. This is not a gender-bender. It's set in a fantasy world but the exploration of identity and gender is reality-based. Not a joke, not a kinky turn-on. If this is a problem for you, please just act like an adult and look elsewhere for something to read. *** Rating breakdown, since that should be public info: 2 x 5*, 1 x 4.5*, 1 x 3*, no reasons offered. A human shaman and healer returns from several years with the mysterious shyani, accompanied by her shapeshifting puma best friend. A valued friend, from her previous identity as a male student physician, has acquired an old shyani book, and extremists will not tolerate its presence in human hands. But back in human lands, the question arises: which world does she belong in? Generations ago, human explorers found a continent inhabited by an utterly alien culture of shapeshifting weyres and the shyani, humanoids who prefer dusk and dawn. A truce of sorts was eventually reached: humans claimed the rich lowlands, and the shyani and weyres retain the highlands. Along the border, practicality often rules, but on either side, old grudges linger in some hearts. As a student physician, Corin tried to take his own life, unable to bear the countless tiny wounds inflicted over twenty-one years of lying to himself in order to be, or pretend to be, socially acceptable. At the last improbable instant, intervention came, in the form of a spirit fox, who led him away from the existence he’d known in the lowlands and into the highlands. There, a puma weyre rescued him, and a shyani shaman helped him find his true self and offered a rebirth, a life with no more lies, and an important role to fill. Now a shaman and healer in her own right, Vixen who was once Corin learns that the one human who mattered to her in her previous life, then a fellow University student, has come into possession of an old shyani book, and the more fanatical shyani and weyres will stop at nothing to reclaim it and punish Jared. Even though it means going back into the lowlands and facing Jared as a woman, she can’t bear to just look the other way. This should be a short visit, just long enough to see the book into the proper hands and make sure Jared will not be killed for having it, and then she can return to the shyani community that has accepted her as their shaman. And, of course, her feline best friend Dayr insists on coming with her. But Jared is now a Lord, with considerable wealth and power, and his response to her presence isn’t one she expected. After years living with the shyani, she sees everything around her from a new perspective, and that makes it difficult to keep to the plan of making as few waves as possible. As an honoured guest in a highborn house, with only Jared aware that she has ever been anyone else, Vixen finds herself questioning where she belongs: with Dayr and the shyani, who accept her gender without question but have to make allowances for her differences, or with humans, in the culture she grew up in even though her past would mean a major scandal? *** Trigger warning: there are scenes of Vixen's previous life, which include some difficult moments and culminate in an (obviously unsuccessful) attempt at suicide before she finds her true self and a better life. Please be careful! This is the ONLY reason for the "Traumatising Content" tag.*** Complete stand-alone novel, 96K words. Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
