The branch i am on is only about two times my size off the ground and half as thick as the tree's trunk, horizontal, that's why i retreat and go further away form the trunk and, when i see the two others standing in the branch and nearing, i crouch slightly. Aaaand jump! I go directly off the branch towards the one-armed other that is gathering rocks. As i fall One-arm widens it's eyes and hurriedly throws the fist-sized rock it has at hand to me, i can't dodge in midair so i make a boxing block with my arms.
*Crack*"Haarg!" As it hits me i feel my left arm go numb but i am now directly in fron of it. Hit. A right sends it reeling just after it manages to pick another rock, and before it can recover... Hit. Again. Another to the gut and an elbow to the head makes it fall before i stomp it for good.
"GYAAAAH!" The ones above are just starting to come back so i pick up one of the rocks on the ground. I aim for the upper body of the one closest and "GYaaAh...*thump*" The other one sees me go for another rock and decides to let go and fall the rest of the distance. After it has fallen it manages to dodge it by crouching and drags it's friend behind the tree.
Damn it, i can't do this with only one arm. As i start thinking of running before they come out again i take a glance at my left arm. What the? My arm's fine, i take cover behind a tree and lift my arm to my face to try moving it. No pain, no numbness, hell, it isn't even sore! *Crack* They're moving! I stop breathing to focus on their steps, they get near then stop. The rocks. And then they start moving again, together. I move slowly circling the tree to keep standing in their blindspot, taking care to step when they do to mask any little noises they may hear so that they don't know which tree i'm behind of.

"GYAAAAH!" This game of hide-and-seek continues for a few minutes with me changing trees two times until one of them starts screaming in a rage,
"GYAAgH!" Friendly fire? I risk a peek and see them tumbling on top of one another, rocks in hands and aiming for the head. *Crack!* The one below gets a good hit and capitalizes on the other's pause. *Crack!**Crunch* Now! As it tries to get the body on it's top off i rush in and kick it in the side of it's head, as it reels from the hit i kneel before it and bring my rock in an overhead strike with both hands. *Crunch*. Well, that was anticlimatic...
"HAHAHA!, WELL DONE NEWBIE!"
When?
"WOAH! WHAT A SPECTACLE! WE HAVEN'T HAD A RUN SUCH AS THIS ONE IN A LONG TIME! HOW ABOUT AN OVATION FOR OUR LITTLE SIBLING!"
As my hand is raised by the one that brought me here i am suddenly greeted by a shout like a thousand bombs going off next to my head.
"GRRHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!"
"HAHAHAHAHA! WELL DONE NEWBIE! NOW TELL US! WHAT MAY WE CALL YOU FROM NOW ON?"
It can be the equivalent of my new brain still being rattled by that 'ovation', but the question has taken me by surprise, after all, everything i had done since i died had been done by order, with little choice, or without any regard to my opinion or knowledge, so now i need a few seconds to compose myself and think of an answer.
"Ahem! Hello fellow... siblings? I'm honored to be here today and i thank you for your ovation. I present myself to you as..." How do i call myself now? Perhaps? Nah, but... i may as well...

Cheep!?
Charles Monroe survived the disappearance of his parents, did his best to hold things together for himself and his sister. Cancer didn’t put him down, and after suffering through several rounds of chemotherapy, Charles Monroe thought that things might finally be looking up. That is, until a virulent strain of ebola swept through the city. With his immune system strained as it is, the odds don’t look good for Charles. Charles isn't ready or willing to die yet. But, as with everything else to this point, even his choice to keep fighting is taken from him all too soon. With no other option but the dark oblivion of death, Charles chooses to make a deal with the spirit of a distant world that's seeking a wild card in its battle against the gods, monsters, and mortals that threaten its existence. Someday, he’ll find where his family went. Someday, he’ll uphold his end of the bargain and hunt beings powerful beyond anything he’s ever known. Someday, he might even – hatch? “CHEEP!?” Things to Know: -Cheep!? Will release on a minimum weekly schedule. -After a backlog of chapters, posting will slow, but in the interim you can expect a chapter a day up until roughly 25 chapters. -This story at times will potentially carry some heavy moments, but the tone is intended to be lighter overall. -There are invisible game-like elements in this story, but nothing so concrete as a dedicated gamelit novel. -I personally have some issues with anxiety, so I may or may not interact with the community a lot. I'll try if anyone has questions, but I can't guarantee that it'll be consistent. -MC is a non-human lead, and will never actually become human. Romance will potentially happen between side-characters, but not with the MC. -MC IS NOT THE ONLY VIEW POINT. I have to put that out there because people sometimes hate alternate PoV's in a story. None of them will be filler, and they'll be there only to give a little bit more nuance and meaning to the world that the MC has stepped in, or is about to be imminently important. I'll try to keep them down, but this also helps to prevent me from burning out getting trapped in one view. -Most of all, I hope that this story is enjoyable to you, and that you have a great time reading it! -Written by Michael Adams, Cowritten/Edited by Summer Kent
