It seems without failing that the one thing anyone desires most is a thing they cannot have. They go after things beyond their reach.

I would not say that it is a failing of people but instead it is one of our greatest features. By searching for and for trying for those things we learn and reach further than we have before.

Those same things that we cannot have are the same things that hurt us. The woman that we aren't supposed to be interested in, the job that someone else has and we are jealous of, the friends that someone else has that we wish were ours.

But some times in the pain and hurting of wanting those things we inprove ourselves as people. We become more than what we were at the start. Even with all the pain of the wanting it doesn't stop us.

Most of the time even if we got ahold of the thing we wouldn't be happy anyways. Because then the wanting stops. No more hunt, no more search, no more fight. We have the thing and for all that it shined when we gazed up at us it loses its luster in holding it.

And then we see another thing, dangling above us, and we are compelled to reach for it. To want more. To want her. Ignoring all the things that tell us we cannot have it or cannot possibly reach it, we try. To get the job. To get her attention. To hold the prize in our hands.
