《A Vampire's Complications》Chapter Twenty-One

It wasn't long after Ricky dragged David out of my room before I opened up the envelope again. Derik had placed Jayson in his crib as I read the packet Ricky prepared for me. Just seeing all of the information he was able to gather impressed me. What impressed me more was the fact that he was able to come up with names of those that couldn't be trusted.

"This is still shocking news to me," I told Derik as he sat down next to me, "Emily is alive and she has a brother in the guard?"

"She told me that she didn't have any siblings," Derik said as he grabbed the packet from me to read it, "Didn't expect it to be him either."

"Neither did I," I agreed as I took the packet back.

Reading the reason why the two would work together against the Seadonna Family was pretty predictable. Emily was upset that David kept a big secret from her during their whole relationship and her brother was blaming the family for turning her against her will. The whole thing was just revenge based. But the person helping them out confused me the most.

Just reading the different things that this person did made me wonder how long he has been doing something like this. Also why would he even do something like this in the first place? It made no sense to me.

"I can understand why your name was used for the prophecy now," I mentioned to Derik, "It's similar to the one actually used."

"So you are saying that Emily's brother wasn't always bad?" Derik questioned.

I nodded my head, "What if he thought his sister was dead until recently and that is what made him turn. She could have fed him some lies to make him turn against the Seadonna Family?"

"Are you sure you aren't a detective?" he joked. The funny thing was that I wanted to become a detective during high school. But life got in the way and that dream went out the door along with my sister. Suddenly, Derik mentioned something that I never thought of, "You should use that skill to figure out what really happened with Sally."

As tempting as that thought was, it was something I wasn't ready to face. My parents were told that she had committed suicide, but I knew that she was murdered. There were so many questions related to Sally's death that it was a rabbit hole I wasn't ready to go down. The main one being, why did they target her in the first place?

"Let's focus on one thing at a time," I finally said. Putting any future mention of Sally to rest.

Derik just shrugged his shoulders as the twins slept in their cribs. He then left me to read the rest of the packet while he went to go do the things he needed to. I didn't even bother to say goodbye to him as I continued to read. Sadly I didn't get far in my reading when there was a light knock on the wall, catching my attention.

Looking up, I saw Ashley standing near the hallway leading to the entrance. I waved her in as I went back to reading. It wasn't long before I felt her sit on the bed with me, closest to the twins.

"You are free to take one if you want. Jayson might give you a hard time because he seems to be a mama's boy," I told her while I was reading, making her smile.

"I can't take your kids. They love you too much," she said, looking at me, "How is the reading going?"

Letting out a sigh, I threw the packet down on to the bed, "I can't figure out why he would do it in the first place. It all doesn't make sense."

"Ricky is confused by it too. He's so trusted in the family that no one would even believe that he would do something like this. And for so long," Ashley mentioned, "I feel bad that I can't help you guys with this or make things easier."

It was the thought that counted and I appreciated that she wanted to make thing better for both Ricky and me. I understood her need to help Ricky out since he was her soulmate. But I was just a family member that had just joined the family. She had no reason to make things easier for me.

"Leah?" she suddenly said, making me look at her, "I have a favor to ask. You can deny it if you want, but I have to ask."

"I have a feeling that I'm not going to like this favor," I told her.

She smiled sheepishly at me, "I know you said that there isn't a relationship between you and David, but I think that there could be. Maybe if you gave him a chance."

"I thought we were over this whole David thing?" I mentioned to her. For so long, no one bothered to bring it up and I thought it was a forgotten thing. Guess I was wrong.

"You don't even need to start anything with him. Just go on one date with him. Please?" she nearly begged.

Rolling my eyes, I knew I had no choice. She would keep bringing it up until I finally did what she wanted. I learned the hard way that Ashley tended to get what she wanted. Ricky was even nice enough to confirm it.

"Just one date?" I asked.

She nodded eagerly.

With a sigh, I agreed, "Fine, but just one date and I am not making any promises. He acts like an ass and I'm out the door."

She quickly stood up, "You won't regret it, Leah."

The smile on her face told me that I would. Ashley literally bounced out of the room with the excitement she was suddenly feeling. I was pretty sure she would be happy to babysit for me while I was on this so called date. Anything to get me to give David a chance.
