《A Vampire's Complications》Chapter Twenty

Ricky wasn't kidding when he said that the next few months would fly by before the twins were born. Now I was under bed rest while both Derik and Jake tried their best at taking care of the crying babies in their arms. It wasn't a smooth delivery and I had a really tough time. Doc was pretty sure that if it weren't for the blood bond I had with David, I could have died. Just the thought of it scared me.
"I can always get up and help you guys," I mentioned for what felt like the hundredth time.
"We will figure this out woman," Jake yelled back at me as he roughly rocked one of the twins in his arms.
I wasn't sure which on he had because I was sure they had messed up their clothes at some point trying to change them earlier. The two were a compete wreck and it made me nervous with how terrible they were at handling the babies.
"Jake, what color eyes does the baby in your arms have?" I had to ask in order to know which child he was giving me anxiety over.
Jake stopped his rough rocking long enough to look at the baby's eyes, "Blue."
"Bring Jayson over here before you drop him," I demanded knowing fully well which baby he had.
Even though I had twins, they weren't identical. I actually had one boy and one girl. Jayson was born with my bright blue eyes while his sister, Alexis, was born with dark brown eyes. There was no telling which parent the twins took after until they were a little older, but I at least had their eyes to help me tell them apart. I keep forgetting that newborn babies all look the same within the first few months after birth.

Jake walked over and nearly shoved Jayson into my arms, "Watch it," I scolded, "This is a baby, not a toy. God, you are going to be a terrible parent."
"Lucky for me I can adopt them once they get out of the noisey stage," Jake muttered as he went to the living room area to watch TV. Derik came by me and sat down next to me on the bed, still holding Alexis. At least he wasn't rocking her roughly like Jake was doing earlier with Jayson. Derik at least had the sense to be gentle.
Once Jayson was in my arms, he started to calm down a bit. It was funny that when Jayson started to calm down, so did his sister. Derik seemed to notice the situation as well.
"Looks like someone just wanted his mom," he mentioned as he got up to go put Alexis in her crib, "When are you and Ricky switching apartments?"
"I don't know. He's been busying investigating," I answered.
After we all agreed that Derik could be trusted, I told him what was going on. Just to see what his thoughts were. He even opened up to me about his soulmate during the discussion. He had confessed that he found his soulmate after he went to Donny's headquarters after my car accident. In fact she was the one that tried to kill him, which made him laugh at the thought.
"I think she messed up my brain," he joked, "She still tries to kill me from time to time, but then things lead to something else and I don't think you want to hear about that."
"Please keep your intimate life to yourself. I've been there and don't plan on doing it again," I told him with a playful look of disgust. Making him laugh.

"Yeah, I guess we are better friends than lovers," he agreed.
I liked the energy that was forming between the two of us. It wasn't as tense as it was back in my hometown. Of course back then we jumped into a relationship before even figuring out what kind of relationship we are supposed to have. We didn't give us enough time to get to know each other. Of course, Derik was also being rebellious against David. Now if only I could finally get the two to get along.
The sound of someone entering my room made all of us look. Jake stood up instantly the moment David walked into the living room area. I can understand the reaction since the last time Derik and David were in the same room, someone ended up getting stitches. Derik was still healing from that and David wasn't feeling at all sorry.
"Don't worry, I'm not going to start a fight. I'm just here to report," David mentioned with the wave of his hand as he walked up to me. His eyes landing on Jayson before he directed his attention to me, "Ricky wants to talk to you alone. Or, at least with those that are trusted."
"I know you don't trust Derik, but he did give Ricky information that he learned through his soulmate," I told him. Seeing Derik rub his cheek a little. That was another injury he was still recovering from. The moment his soulmate found out about him feeding information to Ricky about Donny's plans, she punched him in the face.
"He thinks he knows who the mole is," David finally said with a sigh and then looks at Derik, "They are feeding information to your soulmate."
"Explains the punch in the face," Derik joked. Making David roll his eyes.
"How do we know that it's Derik's soulmate that is being given the information?" I asked. Wondering if this was another ploy to make Derik look guilty. David looked at me like he couldn't believe that I was doubting him.
"Because they are related," Ricky said as he came into my room and handed me a sealed envelope. Mouthing, "Don't let David see."
Curious, I opened the envelope. The first thing I saw was the one name I didn't expect to see. Just seeing it made me look at Ricky with surprise and confusion. How was this even possible? The more I read what was in the envelope the more confused I got. Also I saw another name show up and it made my jaw drop.
"He's the mole?" I said closing the envelope before David could grab it from me. Derik took hold of Jayson to protect him from David's eagerness.
"That isn't all. When you get a chance, read more on who is giving the mole information," Ricky mentioned, "Also the reason why we have been given a false prophecy."

Blood Demon's Retirement
Civil War had raged on the Al-Shan Archipelago for the past four decades, only recently coming to an end with the enthronement of the new Emperor. This is not his story. The Blood Demon, renowned general of said civil war, was tired of all the fighting and politicking that had described the last four decades of her existence. All she really wanted to do now is to go out into the world and see the many lands from her father's stories. Thus she retired, and went and did exactly what she wanted. This is the story of what happens when you toss a (retired) war machine with somewhat lacking common sense into an unsuspecting world at peace. Chapters will range from 1-2.5k words, scheduled for release every day from Monday to Friday. First time posting a story on Royal Road here, hoping you folks will enjoy. Expect: -slow going slice of life with occassional faster paced action -world building -detailed anecdotes on the world, its races, the magic system, and whatnot every now and then Do not expect: -romance, other than maybe some passing mentions -politics, again, barring passing mentions Any comments, reviews, and criticism will be much appreciated. And thank you for reading. ---------------------------- Disclaimer: This story is my original work and only posted on the Royal Road and Scribblehub websites. If you should find this story elsewhere or under another name, please let me know. Also please don't be too hard on me when I make occasional grammatical mistakes, English is my third language after all. XD Edit suggestions are very welcome though. Discord

Children of Danu, People of Skill Book 1. (LitRPG/Gamelit)
Hi all, this is my first attempt at fiction ever. I'm sure it's awful, first attempts at new things usually are. Hopefully you can find something you like in it. I had a great deal of fun writing it. It's a basic Litrpg/Game, God sends you to a new world to do their bidding plot. I Know I did too much telling and not enough showing. I'm working on that. The underlying system is one haven't seen or done much. a full Point Buy system, like Gurps, Champions or the Hero system. After writing it a while, I see why folks don't do it. The record keeping is tedious. And once you start doing math in subsequent chapters, you can't go back and add more action, just because you dread redoing all the math. I've got about 80k words written in two "books" on the novel so far. I'm going to edit chapters and try to drop a couple a week till it's finished. Hopefully that will work for folks. I need to punch up the amount of action. I'll be working on that as well. Thanks, Cal-P.S> The cover art is one of the two CIrce Paintings By Waterhouse.
