《A Vampire's Complications》Chapter Nineteen

David stood watch while I talked to Ricky about what I had noticed since I had joined the family. We had found a small hallway that was hardly ever visited in the training area. Both Ricky and David had checked the area to make sure there were no cameras or any other way someone could listen to us. Right now Ricky leaned against the wall as I told him about each incident that I heard that seemed odd to me. Including the day his mother's suicide letter was found.
"I had always found that day to be an odd one," he admitted, "I'm sure we had been in that area countless times and hadn't seen a letter of any form. Then one day it just magically appears."
"It's hard to believe that there has been a mole even back then," I heard myself say.
Ricky shook his head, "The person who placed that letter isn't the mole, but they might have recruited the mole."
I nodded my head in agreement. Just having this conversation had me think about what David's mother told me a while back. That there has always been people like Donny. Donny wasn't the first and he won't be the last. It made me think of which family member would turn against everyone that they swore to protect.
"Leah, you look like you want to add something to this conversation," David suddenly pointed out. It caused me to glare at him. Not because I was angry or hated that he noticed that I wanted to say more. I glared at him because it was like he could read my thoughts and it terrified me.
Ricky looked at me with expecting eyes. Leaving me no choice but to say what was running through my mind, "What if the traitor and the mole are both part of the Royal Guard?" I finally asked.

With a sigh, Ricky leaned against the wall behind him and slid to the floor, "That was what I was fearing," he said as soon as he hit the floor, "Its the only thing that would make sense. We just need to figure out who it is."
"Its actually a good place to hide. They can act like they are protecting instead of revealing our secrets. The Royal guard is the most trusted part of the Seadonna family," David mentioned. Making Ricky rub his face with frustration.
I can understand the stress Ricky was going through. Part of me regrets telling him about my theory, but I knew that it was the right thing. If I was going to share this burden with him, I had to be open about my thoughts. That was one of the few things I was willing to do freely when it came to the family. Ricky had been running everything on his own until now. It was only a matter of time before he finally broke under the pressure.
"So what are we going to do now?" I finally asked to no one in particular.
"Leave this to us, Leah. You need to focus on the twins for now since these next few months are going to fly by," Ricky said as he finally stood up from the floor, " The only people we can trust so far is ourselves and Mike."
"Not Boss?" I heard myself mention.
David answered, "My father can be trusted to a point. He is too much into the ideals of what is best for the family. He'll probably shut down the whole investigation before it even begins."
There was another question that I wanted to ask, but I held myself back. The question was wondering what David would do if his father was the traitor. It would be too hard for him to answer because it was a child's duty to see the best in their parents. But what he had just said made Boss one of my suspects. Wouldn't he encourage the investigation in order to make sure that the family was safe and sound. Also the queen who died was his sister. Boss could have freely visited the apartment back then and planted the letter himself.

This was a thought that I wouldn't even know how to bring up without proof. Boss was a well respected family member. I didn't blame people either because he was the brother of the queen. He had no reason to betray the family. Or, did he?
"Leah?" David said. Snapping me out of my thoughts, "You should go back to your room. Get some rest and trust us as we try to figure out how to get the mole to reveal themselves."
"I have one more person that you can cross off the suspect list," I suddenly said. Making them both look at me, "You can take Derik off. Something just tells me that he isn't the mole."
"What if he was mated with someone from the Shidonnas? That will give him a reason to betray us," David pointed out. Making me glare at him once again.
"Don't you think it is weird that all fingers were pointed at Derik even before he officially joined the family?" I asked him. He didn't have an answer, "No one has given Derik a chance in this family. Why do I feel like I'm the only one that can trust him?"
David opened his mouth to say something, but Ricky beat him to it, "I think Leah is right. Derik just officially joined the family and as soon as he joined, he met his soulmate. If he was betraying the family, it had to be before the gene fully activated."
Feeling grateful that Ricky was taking my side for the Derik situation, I said my goodbyes and headed back to my room. Jake sat by the door looking very annoyed with me. Just seeing him made me laugh as I opened the door. I was pretty sure that as soon as I entered the room I would get an ear full from him.

The Designated: Out of Control
It happened quicker than anyone would have imagined. Multiple hurricanes were one thing. People had dealt with that in the past. But, like kids playing dominoes, one thing crashed into another. Areas affected by hurricanes needed resources all along the Gulf and East Coasts drew rescuers and resources away from other parts of the country. When wildfires lit up the Pacific coast and mid-west, those areas were already understaffed. Driven by hurricanes in the Pacific basin, uncontrolled wildfires burned through towns, destroying everything in their paths. Across the Pacific, Asia didn't escape. From the Philippines, across China, into Indochina, and Bangladesh and India. Typhoons and cyclones pounded the coasts and far inland. Widespread flooding forced millions from their homes and across international borders. Mexico was hit hard and thousands died in mudslides as Katia slammed into their East Coast. The refugees fled north and west. Rumours started that hundreds of thousands were headed for the US border. Instead of running out of steam in the southern US, several hurricanes tore up the eastern seaboard, devastating cities and renewing their strength before veering east across the Atlantic. Maria and Ophelia veered east and slammed into Europe, reaching as far as the Netherlands and Russia before finally dissipating. After that, too many weather stations were offline to provide any form of co-ordinated information or warnings. Wildfires in Portugal burned ahead of the storms, fanned by hurricane winds. They sparked wildfires leapfrogging across Europe, beyond any one country's ability to cope. Already uneasy from multiple terrorist attacks over the summer, anti-refugee groups seized the opportunity to stage protests across Europe. Some turned violent as they clashed with police forces. Several governments declared martial law to quell the rioting and enforce evacuations along the path of the storms. Rumour and speculation overwhelmed facts. Unrest spilled over into widespread violence. Then sickness broke out in the displaced populations. Within a matter of a dozen weeks, tens of millions died. In the coming winter months hundreds more would follow. The Designated Project was activated.

The Wild Touch
The world of Delmathar has many conflicts and plots that span over the whole world and even into the war torn oceans. That’s not even taking into account that the world is a candidate in the Realm wars… but that’s a story for another day. Instead we will follow the story of how a goddess’s botched attempt of using a weak earth soul to make powerful Grafter for her mother, ends up empowering an unsuspecting little boy. The boy who is called Nosal Brownwhisker, who happens to be a peaceful little buttonless-shirt loving little Capyban. And as the Brownwhisker family tries to juggle their everyday lives on their monster ranch and hiding little Nosal’s secret, more and more developments keep popping up in the village of Pancreedy that makes life more.. interesting. Author’s notes:This is my first fiction and I understand it will suck. Hopefully you will find it to be enjoyable enough to hang around. There’s not going to be any epic world-ending fights or any stuff like that, just some shenanigans generally with the story progressing very slowly as it changes from many viewpoints. The world of Delmathar may seem funky for now so I will promise a glossary every 15 chapters. The wild touch will be updated at least twice a week, with me having no backlog of chapters. So if I get mobbed at work or get sick I will let you know in my notes on a short chapter. I hope you enjoy, and thank you for the people who support me, give me encouragement and pointers.
