《A Vampire's Complications》Chapter Eighteen

Derik didn't waste time to show up at my apartment before coming in. I was slowly starting to call the place like it was. It was an apartment, not a room. Even if it was set up like a small hotel suite. Ricky's place was an apartment.
But after Derik arrived, we all sat in the living room area and got to talking about the two little people that were due in a matter of months. Looking at ease, Derik sat in an arm chair with his leg crossed over his knee. He looked more bored than excited to talk about all of this. Jake sat in the chair opposite of Derik. Leaving me to sit by myself on the couch.
We all sat there in complete awkward silence. It was like having Derik there made things a little weird. Like Jake and I weren't sure how to act around him. But eventually someone was brave enough to break the awkward silence.
"So are we going to just sit here or was there a real reason you called me here?" Derik finally asked. Making me look at Jake to see how he would answer. All I got was a glare in return.
Turning to look at Derik, I answered, "It appears to Jake that you and I haven't discussed a certain issue that needs to be discussed."
He understood instantly, "It appears that Jake is more prepared than we are. What would we do without him?"
I wasn't sure if he was being sarcastic or not. Jake just glared at him for some reason. Probably didn't like what he had to say. Or, he just felt like Derik wasn't taking this situation as seriously as he should.
With a sigh, I had to break the tension somehow, "Did you tell your soulmate about the twins?"

It took Derik a while to answer. The time it took him to answer me felt like it was something I had to be worried about. If he didn't tell his soulmate about the twins, then what would happen if she didn't accept it? What if Derik decided that his soulmate was more important than his own children?
"I may have hinted it to her, but I haven't fully told her yet," he finally said.
"Do you think you should?" Jake mentioned in a disappointed voice, "This is not something that should be over looked in your new relationship."
Derik rubbed his hand over his face as he let out a frustrated sigh, "I'm aware that I have to tell her eventually. But she is currently focused on something else. I guess she has some issues to work out from a previous relationship as well, but she has no idea how to talk to her ex. They haven't been in speaking terms for years."
"So you are trying to help her? That's pretty noble of you," I told him. Making him look at me with a forced smile.
"I just want her to wrap it up so she can stop comparing me to him every second she gets," he said before standing up. He looked down at me with a sad smile, "Looks like we both lost in the soulmate department. Mine is hung up over an ex and yours is too possessive."
"I can see where David is coming from but Ashley has to keep reminding him that space means a lot more then hovering," I said, "I hope things work out for you with your soulmate. Help her finish whatever she needs to in order to give yo the love you deserve."

"That is what I'm afraid of," he said mostly to himself before turning his attention to Jake, "You can put your mind at ease. I plan to take full responsibility, even if my soulmate doesn't accept the twins."
"That is what I like to hear," Jake said.
Derik said goodbye to us and headed out of my room. Making me feel even more sorry for him. He was probably feeling like he was the most unlucky guy in the world right now. A whole family was against him and even his own father was. No one was willing to see the kinder side of him except for me and Jake.
"Something isn't right with what they said about Derik," Jake pointed out, making me look at him, "There are multiple members of the family that switch sides due to their soulmate being part of the other side. I'm sure the Shidonnas have the same issue. And, from what he just said about the twins, he is willing to throw his soulmate away if she doesn't accept his pre-made family."
I had no idea how Jake came up with something that so many people never even thought about. Derik's life would have been so much easier if they put that into effect. Jake was right, something was off because why make a big deal about something when it happens all of the time?
"Jake, who gathers the foretelling and announces it with the rest of the family?" I asked him.
He shrugged his shoulders, "I would assume Ricky or the Royal Guard."
Without warning, I got up from the couch and headed out of my room. I went straight to the door across the hall and knocked. Ashley looked really confused when she answered the door.
"Is Ricky here?" I asked her.
She shook her head, "Boss called him down about five minutes ago along with the other Royal Guards."
"Leah, what is going on?" Jake asked as he finally caught up to me.
I had no idea how to speak my suspicions, but Jake was right. Something was wrong and even Donny had pointed it out. The mole in the family wasn't just effecting the Seadonnas but also the Shidonnas. I needed to talk to Ricky and see what he thought. Maye he would have some insight on what was going on. Maybe he would have noticed some things as well.
"Ashley, where do they usually go when Boss calls for them? I need to talk to Ricky about something," I told her.
"They usually meet in basement three where all of the training rooms are in. What is going one, Leah?" she answered.
"Call Ricky and give him a heads up. I need to talk to him privately because I think the mole has to do with the Royal Guard." I finally explained. Making her face turn white. The one thing that this family depended on to protect them might have someone that wants the war to continue and it was a scary thought. Now I understood what Nana meant when she said I would put an end to the war.
