《A Vampire's Complications》Chapter Nine

Ashley had disappeared at some point, but I didn't notice as Jake and I went to sit on my bed. At some point he even cut up some fruit for us to snack on as we talked and caught up with each other. It felt like I hadn't seen him for year and it made me wonder if he made the effort to see his brother. The thought that should have crossed my mind was the one wondering what he was even doing here in the first place.
"So how are you and Jordan?" I asked him before taking a bite of a strawberry.
Jake nodded as he chewed and swallowed the piece of melon in his mouth before answering, "We are doing good. He recently got a job in the city and we decided to live together."
"That is exciting," I told him. Feeling truly happy for him. My best friend deserved all of the happiness in the world. It wasn't easy for him to hide the fact he was gay our whole entire friendship. Sure he may have hinted about it, but my dense brain never figured it out.
"So the story about you and Derik," he hinted. It was yet another thing I didn't tell him about, "I still think he raped you."
I couldn't stop myself from rolling my eyes at him, "It was not rape, Jake. I knew fully well what I was doing. Plus I get two cute little Leahs out of it." I lightly patted my stomach for good measure.
"I'm still mad at you for not telling me," he said with a fake pout. Only making me laugh. He just shrugged his shoulders and reminded me that I didn't answer the first question, "So you and Derik?"

With a sigh, I answered, "We are over. Turns out that he found his soulmate."
"Really?" Jake was surprised to hear that. I nodded as I ate another strawberry, "That is a surprise in itself."
"Everyone keeps saying that," I mentioned.
"That is because everyone has this image that Derik isn't human. Finding his soulmate just makes people think that they have been wrong this entire time," Jake explained, "It means that he is one of them after all."
I rolled my eyes as I ate another piece of fruit. It ended up being one of my least favorites, but I enjoyed it anyways. It was nice to eat something and not feel so nauseous with it. All this time I was only eating crackers and those suckers that Ashley has been giving me.
"You look pretty small for being around five months pregnant with twins," Jake pointed out. Putting words to my fears. He poked my midsection, "You sure there are two in there?"
His whole interaction made me smile. Just having him here made this place feel so much more like home. Which just the thought about home had me missing it all the more. How was my dad doing? How was my mom? Were they doing okay? Would I ever be able to see them again?
"I know that look," Jake said suddenly getting serious, "You are thinking about your parents." I didn't bother to deny it, "They are fine Leah. Your dad made this choice for you so that you could live. Your mother hates him for it, but she will understand eventually."
His words comforted me in a way. I know that he could also just be telling me what I want to hear. Due to the fact that I had no idea what I was doing or how anything worked in Seadonna Tower, I would have gone back home by now. But I was still waiting for the proper documents related to my new identity. I haven't even started my classes yet and that is supposed to explain a whole lot of things that I needed to know.

Jake decided that we had enough fruit and placed it on the bedside table. He used the one farthest away from us so he could lay out on the bed. I was pretty sure he was about to pass out when the door to my room opened. Making me thing that Ashley had finally returned. Instead it was Jack and Jordan, most likely to collect the one falling asleep on my bed.
Looking up from where he was laying, Jake let out a whine, "But I don't want to leave. I just got Leah back."
There was no missing Jack rolling his eyes while Jordan let out a small chuckle, "Come on, Jacob." Jack ordered.
"You know I hate that name, Jackson," Jake reminded Jack. Only to get the middle finger in response. I could feel the brotherly love in the room.
"Babe, Leah has classes tomorrow. We should let her rest," Jordan finally spoke. He usually didn't talk, but I still get taken aback by how deep his voice was. His voice was the very reason why I had a crush on him in high school. But now he was my best friend's boyfriend and that was a territory I wasn't willing to mess with. Only because I didn't want to risk losing my best friend.
With a sigh Jake got up off the bed and walked up to Jordan, pouting the whole way. Jordan ended up laughing and patted Jake on the shoulder as he told him that he could visit me again tomorrow. Just seeing them together told me that they were made for each other. Jake looked just as happy as Jordan did. Making me wish that I did things differently when it came to my last relationship. But a lot was going on at once and I was too overwhelmed with all that I was seeing and being told. Either way, I was just glad to have my best friend back in my life.
