《A Vampire's Complications》Chapter Five

I entered my room and locked the door behind me. Wanting to feel alone to process all that was going on. It was too much for my mind to take in. Making me wish that my sister was here for me to talk to. Just the overwhelming feeling of me missing her nearly made me fall to the floor and break out into tears. She would have had all of the answers I needed ever since the Seadonna family came into my life.
A small light knock was heard on the door leading into my room. I didn't bother to see who it was or to answer it. Instead I headed for the balcony that was attached to my room. Ignoring who ever was trying to gain entrance. Hoping that they would get the hint that I just wanted to be left alone and leave. But something tells me that it wouldn't be that easy.
As I entered the balcony, I closed the door behind me. Making another barrier between me and those that were a part of this new life of mine. I ended up sitting on a stone bench against the wall and I stared out at the city before me. The wind and the city sounds made this whole thing feel as if it was nothing but a dream. As if I would soon wake up in a hospital bed back in my hometown, but I knew that this wasn't even close to being a dream. This was all very real and there was no going back.
"Can I join you?" came David's voice from the balcony doorway. I couldn't help but glare at him as he held up a key that was obviously to my room.
"I was hoping to be alone for a little bit. I have a lot to process after today," I told him honestly. But he didn't take the hint and came more onto the balcony. Only making me glare at him even more.

"I just want to talk," he said as he held his hands up in surrender. Or, as if he was approaching a dangerous animal and he was trying to prove that he wasn't a threat.
"If you really want me to believe in this whole soulmate thing, you need to actually give me time to miss you. Now always be in my space," I scolded him.
He let out a sigh in defeat. Dropping his hands to his side, "I guess you are right. I guess none of us are really giving you the room you need to breathe."
"You think?" I snapped, "Ever since I woke up, I have been constantly told that I'm going to be this important person to the family. Then I get told that I can never go home or see my father ever again. Boss then tells me all of the things I can and cannot do. And when I told you that I decided to be friends with Derik, you get all jealous. There is nothing between us David. I can do whatever I want as far as you are concerned."
"I'm trying to protect you from him. You don't know what he could do," David tried to defend himself.
"I don't need protecting, David," I shouted, "I just need to be left alone. Understood?"
"Fine," he said as his voice shook from holding in his temper, "But don't expect me to say that I told you so if something bad happens because you decided to trust the wrong person."
I then watched as he turned around and left the balcony. He left the door open so I could hear the sound of the other door slamming shut. I was at the point that I had no idea if I wanted to cry or throw something. Instead I looked at the sky and spoke as if my sister could hear me, "Sally, I really wish you were here."

There was a soft knocking sound coming from the balcony doorway, making me look to see who it was. Ashley stood there as if she was scared to come any further. Waving my hand, I allowed her to approach me.
Sitting next to me she let out a sigh, "I feel like I need to be your voice of reason." I looked at her with a curious look, "But I don't know what that reasoning is supposed to be focused on. I know I was all Team David back at our hometown, but with how he is acting lately, I don't want to encourage that."
Hearing her say that made me chuckle a little bit, "He is acting like a little three year old that was just told that he couldn't have any candy before dinner."
The analogy I used made us both burst out into laughter. It was funny because it was probably the one thing closest to the truth. Also I felt like the laughter was good for me. But suddenly Ashley got all serious as she looked out at the city.
“Leah, can I ask you something?” she asked. I turned my head to look at her and saw that she seemed unsure about what she wanted to say. I nodded giving her the approval to ask what was on her mind, “I meant to ask sooner and it just wasn't the right time to ask. But I'm going to do it now anyways because I know it bothers you. How did Sally die?”
I let out a heavy sigh as the memory came back to me like a bus crashing into a wall. The sound of her screams still echoed in my head every time I tried to remember what exactly happened that night. How the truth got covered for some unknown reason.
"Sally was murdered, but someone covered it up and told my parents that it was a suicide," I finally answered Ashley's question. Making her look at me with complete shock in her eyes.
"How do you know she was murdered?" she asked almost breathless.
This was when things get hard for me when it comes to remembering that night. I let out a heavy sigh as I looked at the city lights to answer, "Because I was on the phone with her when it happened."

Distant Leaps to Circinus
A dark fantasy story that takes place on a reborn Earth. "With all the planets in the universe, it just had to be this one." Not many thoughts came to mind when scientists said they could provide the Earth with nearly infinite power. Humans could only think about the future, after all: they could travel to the farthest reaches of space, never worry about their electric bills again, and give rise to new and innovative technologies. With such good outcomes on the horizon, there was no way humanity would sit idle; instead, they studied perhaps the most powerful entity in the entire Milky Way. It seemed that, after its appearance decades ago, the strange and unmoving black sphere was something of a godsend. There will always be a reason for these things. With one touch, our very reality was but a grain of sand in an hourglass. In an instant, the Earth was gone - replaced by something… different. More than a century later, Earth’s remains have reformed into a completely different beast - a planet both alive and dead at the same time. Physics that were once understood no longer made sense, giant land masses floated in the sky, and billions of people fought for their very survival. Work, sleep, and play were no more; it was time for the world, Circinus, to reign. The birth of Circinus could only be the beginning. The powerful yet ever-elusive black sphere seemed to watch the world from afar - casting light for those below, but never truly emitting light from itself. What does it all mean for the children of Circinus - children born with eyes that seemed to stare into God’s heart?

Yancy Lazarus—bluesman, gambler, future world-class mage and fix-it man—is just a dumb, unlucky kid serving with the 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines in Vietnam. With just a few weeks left to go until Yancy gets shipped back to the States, he’s just trying to keep his head down and avoid a body bag—no mean feat in Nam. But when his squad is tasked with conducting a routine patrol deep in enemy territory, everything goes to nine kinds of hell, and he quickly sees his chances at survival slipping away. When the radio operators start to pick up some funky, dirty ol’ blues all the way out in the backcountry, it’s a nice change of pace. At least until the men in Yancy’s squad start losing their minds, turning on each other with murderous intent as the music works its deadly power within them. Convinced it’s some kind of new psychological warfare initiative, the squad leader forces the men to push deeper and deeper into the Vietnamese jungle, obsessed with locating the music’s source. What they find, however, isn’t some new technology, but an ancient spirit awoken by the terrible war. Even worse, the music is changing Yancy too, awakening something buried inside of him. Only one thing is certain, nothing is ever going to be the same.See how it all began … *** PRAISE FOR SIREN SONG:Hunter's writing is as low-down, gritty, and insidious as the blues Yancy Lazarus loves.
