《A Vampire's Complications》Chapter Four

It was only a few days of settling in before Boss called me to his office. I had just left my room when Ricky stepped out of his. Feeling a little revealed to see him, I hoped he didn't mind becoming my guide to where I needed to go. Being new to the place terrifies me because I had no idea where anything was. I'm pretty sure I didn't even remember where the medical ward was in the building.

Ricky gave me a knowing smile before gesturing towards the elevator doors at the end of the hall. He followed close behind me and as we waited for the door to open, Ricky decided to tease me for a little bit, "What will you ever do without me?"

"Get horribly lost until David saved me," I told him honestly. Making him laugh.

The doors then opened to reveal David leaning against the back wall of the elevator. He must have had the same thought I did and decided to come rescue me anyways. But something felt off the more I looked at him.

David didn't look at me, instead he stared at Ricky. Ricky let out a sigh as he hung his head. As if he knew what was going on without David saying something.

"Sorry Leah. I can't help you to Boss's office. Duty calls," he apologized before turning around and headed back towards his room. David got off the elevator and followed after him. Not saying a word to me.

I watched after them until they disappeared into Ricky's room. With a sigh, I turned around and entered the elevator by myself. Not knowing which floor to go to, I pressed the bottom for the lobby. Hoping that I could find someone there to lead me to where Boss's office was. But when I got to the lobby, the area was completely empty.

Feeling defeated, I exited the elevator and sat on the closest chair to me. It was a lot harder than it looked. I had expected to sink down but it was like I was sitting on a stone bench.

"You look uncomfortable," came the sound of a familiar voice. Making my head snap up. Only to see that Derik was the owner of the familiar voice, "You would think that with all of the money they make, they would have more comfortable furniture."

My eyes couldn't focus on anything other than the bandage on his head. Also his eyes were a lighter brown than I could remember. But everything else was the same, except that his short dark brown hair was shaved down and looked like it was slowly growing back in.

"Can we talk?" he asked. Looking nervous as if he was afraid that I would turn him away. Instead I surprised him with a small nod. Most likely surprising him in the process.

Derik left for a little bit to grab another chair and then placed it in front of me. It is as if he didn't care that it was almost in the middle of the hallway. All that mattered to him was that I was willing to talk to him.

He hung his head low, "About what happened, I wanted to apologize. There is no excuse what so ever for me hitting you."

"We both did and said things that we aren't proud of that day," I admitted to him. He nodded in agreement, "I'm sorry too."

He smiled at me, "Let's get a little real here. I was a little pushy with our relationship. Maybe we can start over as friends and see how it goes. Deal?"

The look on his face was hopeful. Derik was admitting to his faults and I was admitting to mine. Maybe starting over in this new life of mine wasn't that bad of an idea. The memory of him being alone in this world popped into my mind, solidifying my answer, "Okay," I told him, much to his relief. My smile only showing that I forgive him for everything back at my hometown.

Then I remembered where I was supposed to go. What were the chances that Derik would know where Boss's office was? It didn't hurt if I asked him.

"Hey Derik," I said, catching his attention, "You don't happen to know where the office is for Boss, do you?"

He let out a small chuckle as he got up from the chair and put it back where he found it. He then walked up to the elevator and pushed a button, "Come on. You aren't the only one he needs to see. We will go together."

When we got to Boss's office, Derik was told to wait in the hall while I went into the room. Boss didn't wast anytime to start talking to me about what was expected of me now that I was a part of the Seadonna family.

“The rules of being a new member of this family is as follows,” he began as he went to sit behind his massive oak desk. I sat in a chair across from him. The chair was just as hard as the one I sat on next to the elevators in the lobby. My eyes couldn't help but wonder, taking in the sights of the room. The first thing I noticed is that there wasn't a thing out of place and it seemed like he'd might freak if something was out of place. There was even a wall dedicated to all of the business I was sure he owned to bring in more money for the family.

David's dad was a serious business man. It made me wonder what else he was capable of besides running the family matters in Ricky's place. But as we sat in his office, I couldn't help but feel like a child getting ready to be scolded. The man was beyond serious, who also didn't have one family picture in his office. Which probably could just be written off as him separating personal business and actual business. The look in his black eyes alone told you he meant business. It was kind of scary sitting in a room alone with him since he was one of the oldest guards to ever live.

“Rule number one is that you are to call me Boss as a sign of respect. You are a Royal and I'm the one who will help you manage your share of the family responsibilities with Ricky, who will be considered your brother from now on,” I had a sudden feeling that I was really going to hate the idea of being a part of this family.

“Rule number two is that since you are a princess in the family, you must take the proper class. I have your school schedule. Erik is assigned to show you where we have classes for the first week and then you are on your own. You will have to keep good grades at all times in order to not disappoint the family name. I don't tolerate slackers, even ask David about that.” Boss continued to explain to me. Confirming that I was going to hate it here. I was most likely going to be the center of attention since I was the same class as Ricky was.

“Rule number three is that you are never to wonder in to the alleyways or walk on the streets after dark without a Royal Guard with you. I can not risk having any of the Shidonnas picking you up and taking our only hope for this family away,” well, I really appreciate being considered as the family's only hope to survive this stupid so called war, not. David's dad really had to really loosen up a bit. I cant recall him ever being relaxed in any of the moments I've seen him, “Any questions you have you can ask David. He's my right hand man and the best in the squad. I hate to be disturbed, so don't bother coming to me with ridiculous questions. That seems to be only my children's job.”

I let the information attempt to absorb into my brain. It was a lot to take in and it was giving me a headache the more I tired to understand something. I was tempted to ask a question about me being considered the families 'only hope' because I didn't quite understand how that could be. But I didn't get a chance to ask.

Our meeting was cut short as David walked into the room with a serious look on his face. It matched the look that was on his dad's face right now. They looked so much alike at the moment that for a second I thought they cloned David's dad to make David. The resemblance between them was so close that you could hardly see David's sister in him. Which meant that Maria most likely took after their mother.

No sooner then that thought popped in my head, the door to the office literally burst open. The heavy wooden door smashed against the walls. I saw the one familiar face that I thought I never see again. Especially in a place like Seadonna Tower. In her forties, or so I think she was, she had flawless pale skin and beautiful chocolate brown hair. She wore a gray business suit that complimented her perfectly. Nothing was out of place on Margarete as she walked into the room with steam practically coming out of her ears, “David Roy Seadonna, don't you dare walk away from me when I'm talking to you. I am your mother and you will respect me.”

“That respect went out the door when you left me at an orphanage just to get back at my father,” David said with a dry tone.

Margaret's dark brown eyes narrowed as she stomped up to Boss's desk, “John, I seriously thought you would have taught your son some manners.”

“I don't see why he should have any towards you. You left us. What did you expect when you came crawling back to me? Your son hates you for what you did and I have no control over his decisions. Trust me, I've tried,” David's dad said as he let out a heavy sigh and went to work on some paper work that was resting on his desk.

David came by me as his parents continued to fight. He grabbed my hand and led me out of the office. We walked silently down the hall towards the elevators. I could feel the anger coming off from David. I was actually kind of scared to say something to him. This is actually the first time I've seen him this upset. Not even Derik got him this mad. Making me feel bad that I completely left him alone with the two arguing people in Boss's office. I hoped that he was going to be okay.

As soon as we entered the elevators and David pushed a button for an upper floor, he finally broken the silence as he began to relax and go back to his old self that I got to know, “Sorry you had to see that. My mom isn't a favorite around here.”

“It's okay,” I told him as I leaned against the back wall. David leaned against one of the side walls as we waited to go to the floor that David has chosen, “So where are we going?”

“To your room,” David answered.

"Why?" I asked him. But he didn't say anything, making me feel a little uneasy. But I ended up changing the subject to get my mind off of the feeling, "Derik and I decided to be friends."

The sudden energy of jealousy filled the small space of the elevator. It was almost suffocating. "Even after what he did?" David suddenly asked.

"I'm not proud of that day either," I told him honestly. Leaving the conversation the way it was as the elevator doors opened and I exited. Walking by myself towards my room, leaving David behind.
