《A Vampire's Complications》Chapter One

My eyes flew open as agonizing pain consumed my body. All I wanted to do was scream, but my body wouldn't even function the way I wanted it to. It was even harder for me to get a deep enough breath to make a small whimper. It felt like every bone in my body was broken. I was lucky to be alive, even though it didn't feel like it at the moment.

Looking around the room the best I could with out feeling anymore agonizing pain, I could tell that I was in a hospital room. Nothing much to look at other than white walls and machines that made noises based on whatever they were monitoring. A chair was pulled up next to the bed with a sleeping David sitting in it.

The faint sound of foot steps tickled my ears. I tried to see who it was, but any movement gave me waves of pain that made it even harder to breath. But eventually Doc came into my view with a releaved smile on his face.

“Ah, you're awake,” I heard his deep raspy voice say, “I was starting to wonder how long you were going to take. Some were pretty sure you weren't going to recover after how bad that accident was.”

He set down a clipboard on the table next to the hospital bed. He then pulled out a small flashlight from his left pocket and shined it in my eyes to see how they reacted. He then placed the ice cold stethoscope on my chest to check my heart rate. It was like an every day check up expect I was feeling pain every time he touched me.

“I'm sorry. I know it hurts,” he said softly as he continued to check my vitals. When he was finished he picked up the clipboard and wrote down all of the results. Staring at him, I wondered if he had any good news or not.

My eyes slowly went to David, making Doc smile even wider. It was as if he knew what I was thinking.

"He's going to need that sleep after staying up for a whole week," Doc reported, "It will be hard to wake him up anytime soon."

“Doc?” came the familiar voice of David's dad as he walked into the room.

“She's awake, John. Everything seems to be in tip top shape, but her bones are still taking a longer time to heal then they should,” Doc reported as Boss came into my view. I was kind of taken back by how he looked so similar to David. He wore a black dress shirt with black dress slacks and a leather jacket. He was in a cross between casual and business.

“That's good to hear. So, how long until she can be released?” David's father asked. He was acting like I wasn't even in the room.

“If her bones speed up, about a week,” the elderly man replied.

“But?”

“But, if they continue at this pace. It won't be until the end of the month. There is nothing I can do. It all depends on her body's acceptance to the bonding,” explained Doc. David's father just silently nodded before he quickly left the room. His visit was quite short and kind of cold to me. He could have at least said hello to me or asked how I was doing.

Doc gave me one last smile before he followed Boss in leaving the room. Making me feel a little lost and confused about everything. I knew I was in a hospital room, but this didn't look like the hospital in my hometown. But I couldn't focus on my thoughts for long as the sound of heels clicking on the floor signaled someone was arriving in the room. Relief washed over me as my eyes landed on the familiar face of Gabbie.

“Hi Leah,” she greeted me with a warm smile, “I'm here to explain where you are and why you are here.”

If I wasn't in so much pain, I would probably give her a smart remark. It was obvious I was in the hospital because I was in a car accident. But I had no choice but to let her speak since talking would take too much energy at the moment. So I was happy when Gabbie placed some medication into my IV before saying what she needed to.

“Leah, you are in the medical ward of Seadonna Tower, the home of the important figures of our family. Seadonna Tower is located in New York, New York. Your father consented to you coming here and living life as if you died. To everyone, except those associated with the family, you are now dead and have no chance of coming back,” she began. She didn't even bother to make it sound better, “All of this will be repeated to you close to your release date by Boss, but that will be more of a reminder to you then the whole explanation I am giving you.

“You will be considered the princess of this family with Ricky as your adopted brother. Once you are released and adjusted a little, classes on how to play that role will be taking place,” she smiled as she finished up her talk, "You also are no longer Leah Rickabe since she died in the motorcycle accident. You are now Leah Seadonna. Welcome to the family."

I stared at her. Not sure on what to say. It was like my mind was refusing to register all that she told me. But Gabbie didn't stay long to see if I had any questions. She just turned on her heels and left the room. Making me stare at the place where she disappeared.

“Sorry about Gabbie,” David's voice broke the silent. Making me look at him. He was now awake, but was still in the position he was sleeping in, “She kind of has a habit of getting things done too fast.”

Even though he looked like he had been through hell and back, he still looked attractive as always. He had on his usual black jeans and black skater shoes on. His maroon shirt hugged his torso just enough to give a hint at how fit he was. The forest green beanie rested at the top of his head, making me wonder if he ever told me the story of the item that never fit his attire.

“Why did you save me?” I asked. My voice was almost a raspy whisper. It also took David by surprise as he adjusted himself in the pale pink chair.

David answered honestly as he stared at the floor at his feet, “I only did what I had to, Leah. Saving you is my duty and also saving you is something that is required of me as your mate."

I was kind of hoping he wouldn't bring up the whole soulmate stuff, but this is his world I was in now. Everyone had a soulmate and it was just something I had to believe. Especially after I went against it and it nearly got me killed.

In my barely audible whisper, I just had to ask him about the thing that I regretted the most, "If I survived, did the baby survive as well?"

Part of me didn't want him to answer it. He pressed his lips together into a thin line, making me think that he didn't have good news. But after five minutes, he finally answered, "Doc and Gabbie are monitoring them with one of these machines. They are Seadonnas and Seadonnas are pretty tough. Not much can kill them."

I was confused even more, "Them?"

"Congratulations, Leah. You are having twins," David said with a serious tone. Leaving me shocked as I stared at him. Unsure of what to say or how to react. Never in my life did I ever imagine me having twins. He must have saw the slow panic building up within me, because David said in a comforting voice, "You aren't in this alone, Leah. I'll be here whenever you need me."
