《Emperor》Chapter- 4

On his way to his mansion Rowan was constantly thinking about the baby that his majesty has given to raise him. He knew he was known as one of the greatest General in Yonait but that does not imply he was a good teacher. He has taught many young ones before but it was all for nothing. If his majesty wanted the baby to grow as a great hero wouldn't it would be better to be taught in palace, where all the people, best in their field live. It would be better there.
The carriage suddenly tilted to one side throwing Rowan, sitting inside the carriage into the air. The carriage stopped after that. Through the gap of curtain and carriage window he saw citizens gathering around carriage. Rowan questioned carriage driver.
"A poor lady has been hit by our carriage," Carriage driver replied.
Rowan furrowed his brows. Such a big carriage is not something you can miss so easily. Rowan thought that it must be some kind of trick to get money from him. Rowan ordered one of his guard to clear the path and the carriage once again started moving toward its destination.
Carriage stopped at front gate of the mansion and a man who was standing beside the front door approached the carriage and opened its door. Rowan stepped out from the carriage with the baby in his hand.
"Greetings sir Rowan" bowed the man.
Rowan doesn't greet back just slightly nodded but the man could not see it due to his bow for greeting. Another opened the gate of the mansion for Rowan.
Rowan entered inside mansion. As it was a mansion so it was obvious it would be big and to fit the stature of general residence, it needed to be have class but even after having all this Rowan wasn't happy. He had wife and two children, a boy and a girl. His wife was busy socializing with upper-class women and children are just influenced with this high-class society and think themselves as a king.
"Is something the matter sir" a butler asked Rowan.
Rowan turned toward the man. He was a butler, assigned to him by the king. He was old and seen many people in his life so he could see the loneliness in Rowan's eye.
"Nothing Valus," said Rowan while turning back to go to his room but Suddenly stopped midway he realized he requires a nanny for the baby. He once again turned to Valus.

"Valus hire a nanny for the baby"
Valus was waiting for this opportunity. He was curious about whose baby it was or if it was Rowan baby from affair but asking directly to his master would be rude and unprofessional after all this matter is none of his concern, it was just his curiosity to know about it. Valus slyly tried to get the information out of Rowan.
"Sir may I know what kind of nanny you want to hire for...." Valus paused mid of sentence and looked at Rowan with a gaze which was asking him to complete another half of sentence.
"call him young master" as Valus mind registered Rowan words. The look of surprise appeared on his face. He was ready for this kind of possibility but he didn't thought that it would really come true after all his image of Rowan was not of someone who would cheat on her wife just because some other woman look more beautiful.
Rowan somewhat guessed what Valus might be thinking. If someone out of nowhere bring a baby with him to his house when he is already married and even had kids, two on top of that than it would sure look suspicious. Before Valus would make even more assumption Rowan thought of stopping his train of thoughts.
"Just hire an experienced nanny. This baby is one of the summoned hero."
Rowan's statement shocked Valus. He could not believe what he heard. He stared blankly at Rowan. How could a baby be a one of a summoned hero?
'At least make a good excuse master'
"You heard it right Valus. He is one of a summoned hero. He is given to me to train him as a warrior," Rowan left for his room with a baby and waited for nanny to come.
*****
Valus left to hire a nanny for the baby but one thing was disturbing him. He couldn't understand why the baby was given to Rowan. He is a great general was right but at most he could teach war strategy and sword fight to baby but that is not the only thing that makes hero invincible. Hero also needs to master magic, learn to use all kinds of weapons and get field experience fighting demons not other countries that is usually general's duty. Wouldn't it be better if he was trained in palace in magic and all other aspects and if king really wanted to give baby to someone to train wouldn't it be better to give him to Ronald. He is most experienced warrior of anti demon army.

Valus thought same as Rowan on this matter but the difference in Rowan and Valus thinking was that Valus has some vague idea of why Rowan was given baby. After all he wasn't royal butler previously for nothing.
Valus thought's train took him way ahead of his destination. Valus had to run all the way back to nanny's house. He knocked at a certain door and after a while a woman who looked in her mid 30s opened the door.
The lady doesn't remember who the old man was but he was sure she hadn't seen him before.
"Who are you old man?" Asked woman, ready to grab the knife lying just a bit away from her if old man make any suspicious move.
"We have met only once so it couldn't be your fault," said Valus sighing.
"I don't remember you so could you tell me who you are mister?" She asked once again.
"Lara You used to work in palace as a maid when I was butler there. Let's not talk about the past and let me tell you why I'm here."
Lara was sure that this old man dressed in black suit here was to offer him a deal. A deal that is, a high-class noble is interested in you and want to take you as his mistress. In other words, he was here to buy her. Lara was ready to jump at his knife to slit this man throat as soon as he says it. She pumped energy in her legs and waited for the man to open his mouth.
"I want you to...."
Before Valus could say any further Lara took a step behind, twisted her body slightly and stretched her arms to hold the knife, lying on table. She gripped the knife as tight she could and charged at the old man with an intent to slice him in two. But when knife was just a bit far from Valus, a spherical stone out of nowhere popped in front of knifes blade. Lara has put her whole power in the attack so when the knife collided with smooth shiny stone spheres, knife got deflected. She disbalanced and fell on the ground. She stood once again to ready another strike but somehow she was unable to lift her feet. She looked at her feet and saw her feet rooted in floor.
"Mage!!" She gasped. Mage and as a butler this time someone big noble has come to hire us.
Valus was surprised with Lara's reaction but on same time knew why she did it. She was really beautiful and anyone who would see her would definitely want her for himself.
If any other butler with zero fighting experience had come to her, he won't be able to leave unscathed from her fierce attack. Lucky for him he personally came to hire her.
"I know Lara before me many people had come to you with not so good reason but I don't have that kind of intention. I know what happened with you and I know how hard is life for you that’s why when my master told me to hire a nanny. I directly came to you."
Lara heard the man. After all she didn't have any other option. She heard him till end and a large loathing smile surfaced on her face.
"I knew you were just like others and you were lying. If you would have known me before you would have known that I have never worked as nanny and I was just a daily chore doing maid."
"I know Lara but I also know that you have a son. How old is he? 2 or 2 and a half? Your conditions are bad and you can't take care of your child properly but as you had managed your child alone since he was born I assume you have adequate experience in handling a baby that is why I have came to you Lara. This Job will help you."
Lara started thinking about what the man was saying and trying to find error in his theory but everything he said was true. She was totally confused about what she should do next. should she refuse or accept the offer?
"Lara I'm offering you a chance to help yourself don't let it go away"
She was conflicted. She couldn't trust a man she had never seen before at least as far as she remember. She gritted her teeth and finally agreed.
"Allright I agree."

Unstable and weakened, will he be more hindrance than help? Can he become the warrior he once was?A Monk and a Monkey journey across a world...... where the remnants of technology are seen as magic, while pockets of humanity strive to drag themselves out of ignorance.... where the descendants of animal-human hybrids, once created as instruments of war, now seek to dominate the world as demons.... where beings who call themselves Immortals and Gods preoccupy themselves with selfish pastimes, ignoring everything else. Among other things, a story about growth, grit, and being better than the person you were yesterday. Here's my rambling on why I'm writing Journey West 5000. Journey West 5000 is my crazy ambitious writing project to adapt a classic epic called "Journey to the West" for a global, modern audience. It's a sci-fi story disguised as fantasy, and has some road trip + monster of the week elements (as does the original Journey to the West). No system, definitely no harem, gradual power progression. Hmm, what else can I put here so potential readers know what to expect? My writing style for now is mostly "show don't tell", because I believe that readers don't need to have everything pointed out to them, and that they should be allowed to make up their own minds about characters based on the actions of those characters. I'm also trying to be less long-winded (a weakness pointed out by some friends) in order to write according to something Neil Gaiman said, which is to write as though I'm the one who has to pay for every word, not the reader. This will bring down my chapter word counts, and might drive away potential readers, but I believe there's value in learning to compress and be concise. All chapters posted here will have been edited. Constructive criticism, comments, and feedback would be very much welcome and appreciated. Please, please help point out any typos or grammatical mistakes, I'm striving to minimize those as much as possible. Above all, I hope you enjoy my story.

Unwitting Champion
"In stories this is always easy. There's magic and powers, and quick steps to claiming that power for one's self. This doesn't feel true for me. I'm supposed to be a Champion, whatever that means, and yet I don't feel important. I don't have all the bells and whistles, which honestly feels familiar even in a new world. But what was I expecting? I haven't had the worst life - there are people with worse problems than mine - I've known what it is to struggle, to be pulled down instead of being helped up.This is nothing new."When in great peril, the Kingdom of Althor has no choice but to send a call into the void, beseeching the Fates to bring them a man who would save them from the coming darkness. Unfortunately the path the Fates chart is often unknowable to men and the Champion who appears is not what the kingdom expected.Unwitting Champion is a story of a guy displaced, dealing first and foremost with trying to survive in a world where he is no longer a person but a tool, and - at least from the reaction of those around him - a shoddy one at that. His major goal is to survive long enough that either he can run or find a way home, because as exciting as the possibility of learning magic might be, he would rather have a boring life than a short life.
