《Vampire's Beginnings》Chapter Eighteen

Jake didn't stay long after our small talk. He ended up leaving to check on his brother before he went to meet up with Jordan somewhere. But I wasn't alone for long. Ricky had returned, not even bothering knocking as he let himself in. I was currently sitting at the island in the kitchen eating from my tub of strawberry ice cream.
He found a seat across from me and just smiled at me. It kind of made me feel a little uncomfortable. Did he want me to offer some ice cream to him?
"How are you holding up since you nearly got two royal guards killed?" he suddenly said as he rested his chin in his hand.
I rolled my eyes, "It wasn't my intention. I actually don't really want to get married."
"Then why did you accept?" he asked.
It was a really good question. I stared down at my ice cream as I searched through my thoughts trying to figure out the answer. It seemed what ever one I came up with, it sounded like a lame excuse.
Ricky gave me a knowing smile, "You can't answer, can you?"
"I hate you," I told him as I put the cover back on the the tub of ice cream and stomped to the freezer to put it back. After the freezer door I leaned against the fridge and looked at him, "How did you know that Ashley was the one for you?"
"That question should be more for Amanda than me," he told me honestly, "She put Mike through the ringer in order to have her accept his proposal."
Hearing that Mike and Amanda had a tough time in the beginning was a little hard to believe. But then again, the first time I met they they were fighting and she wasn't talking to him. I still didn't learn what the cause was for that, but Ashley explained that it had a thing that Mike like to push his boundaries. But when they weren't fighting they were more in love then Ricky and Ashley were with each other.
"It's hard to believe, I know," Ricky said, "But the person we are destined to be with always comes into our lives when we are on the brink of giving up."
"What do you mean?" I asked him. Unsure of what I was about to hear.
Ricky looked at me seriously as he sat up straighter, “At age ten I was there when my mother threw herself off of the Seadonna tower's roof. We were there flying my new kite when she decided that she didn't want to live anymore. Next thing I knew I was looking down at her motionless body on the ground before my uncle pulled me away in fear that I would follow her.
“My father's health slowly began to deteriorate after that. Forcing him to pick an heir between my brother and me. Sadly at age thirteen I caught my twin brother standing over my father’s dead body. Holding a bloody knife as he stared down at my father's corpse because he didn't like the choice he heard. My brother was then thrown into the dungeons until he was accused of murder with a sentencing of death. I couldn’t see my only family die, so I broke him out. It may have been the biggest mistake I ever made. Something that my young mind couldn't cope with as Donny began to retaliate against our family by making his own. I was ready to end it.”

“Then you met Ashley,” I finished for him. He just stared at me with a smile on his face. He looked so cute with his black hair perfectly framing his face with some strands falling loose over his eyes. I could see why Ashley would marry him without any second thoughts.
The smile on his face never went away. Making me amazed by his strength. Looking at him, you would never know about the rough past he had. Ashley was defiantly lucky to have him in her life. She needed someone who could understand the hard life she had and save her from those nightmares while she saved Ricky from his. The whole thing made me respect Ricky so much more and knew that he was someone you could use in your corner if you ever needed someone.
"So let me ask again, why did you accept when you had to intention to?" he asked as he played with the chain that held his wedding ring.
Before I could answer the sound of glass breaking filled the house making us both look towards the entrance. I stood up and ran to see what happened and found the living room covered in glass and the window shattered. Derik was lying on the floor unconscious, covered in cuts and glass.
David then came tumbling down the stairs, landing with a sickening thud. Broken glass stuck out of his shoulder as he tried to get up. Ricky instantly took us to a corner and stood in front of me as protection. Worry filled me as I stared at David when he finally got onto his knees.
Ricky looked as worried, "You okay, David?"
“I’m just fine. I just love being thrown around," David answered sarcastically, "But you two should probably run."
Ricky grabbed my wrist and started pulling me towards the front door. But the moment he opened it, I saw the familiar face from before. Also it was scary how much a like he was to Ricky. It was as if we stood in front of a mirror instead of my front doorway.
“I see you dyed your hair,” I said as we slowly walked backwards from the back door. Donny had is hair jet black to match the black clothes he wore. Ricky went to hit him only have Donny grab a hold of his hand and knee him in the stomach.
I watched Ricky fall to the ground, holding his stomach. Blood trickled out of the corner of his mouth making me wonder how hard that kick was. Also making me worry if there was some internal bleeding happening to make him bleed like that. Donny showed no concern as he kicked him to the side and slowly began to approach me.
My feet moved to take a step backwards, but arms quickly wrapped around me. Keeping me in place. Fear filled me as I turned to see who had me. It was someone I didn't recognize, but the red eyes told me all I needed to know.
“I didn’t need to bring him along since you had them pretty much distracted but we can't be too careful,” he said as he stood in front of me. I tried to escape the arms that held me with desperation. Only providing entertainment for Donny.

David finally was able to get himself up and charged after Donny, pinning him against the wall next to me. The annoyance on Donny's face was plain to see. He was seeing David as something getting in the way. Which only made my fear skyrocket because I was still worried about him.
“Leave her alone,” David demanded with such hate in his voice that it gave me goose bumps. I watched as Donny gave a small chuckle. He was getting more amused the harder we tried to fight him.
“Why? Are you afraid that she might benefit me instead of saving your precious family? We're all a dying race, David,” he told David. David's grip on him only tightened. The arms holding me loosen but didn't let go as Donny and David had their stand off. At the corner of my eye I could see Ricky moving to stand up. Using the wall as support.
“This war is going to end and not with your family ruining all that we have built,” David said to him. Donny didn't like that answer. He ended up ripping out the piece of glass in David’s shoulder, making him scream in pain. I then watched in horror as he drove the broken glass right into David’s side, making him scream more in pain.
“Any deeper and your dead,” he said as he held onto the glass, his blood mixing with David's on the floor. David tried to stay up, but eventually fell to the ground in pain. Letting the glass slip from Donny's hand.
Donny just stared at him as if he regretted not killing him right away. But David was soon forgotten as he turned around with a wicked smile on his lip and he began to walk towards me. I began to struggle once again in the arms holding me. Hoping that I could escape.
Red eyes looked at me as if studying every inch of my body. He nodded in approval still wearing his wicked smile. Fear of what he might do filled me. Different scenarios played in my mind, each on worse than the first. I took in deep shaky gasps of air, hoping it would calm my nerves enough to make me able to fight if I had to.
“Just kill me if that is what you came here for,” I heard myself say. I didn’t know where those words came from. Sure I was being brave, but I was scared out of my own skin, and the big giant behind me sure didn’t make matters any better. Donny suddenly bursted out laughing as if what I said amused him. His hand then held my chin to make me look at him in the eyes.
“I like you. I can see why there is so much fuss over you. Not much to look at, but that will change after you die. But, I’m going to need my brother for that little part,” he said as he let my chin go. I watched as Donny walked up to David and pull out the broken glass from his side. David didn't make a sound, making me think he was unconscious from the blood loss, "Don't worry, he isn't dead yet," Donny reassured as he grabbed Ricky by the hair and threw him back down onto the ground. Pinning him, he looked at me, "Nanna says that you are the one that will save us all. I say it’s a bunch of crap, but I did like the part that you come into my arms. Of course, there is a catch to that. You end up killing me and I can‘t let that happen.”
His eyes then fell to his brother who was fighting to get the upper hand. The wicked smile never left his face as he brought the glass to Ricky's neck. Ricky instantly froze. Making me only imagine what was going through his head.
He then looks at me with the most evil look in his eyes that he has had so far. I could also feel the hate coming off from him. He ended up stabbing the piece of glass into Ricky's back instead, making him scream in pain. Figuring that he was no longer a threat, Donny got up and walked towards me with sudden seriousness on his face.
“If she thinks I’ll fall in love with someone like you, she has another thing coming,” he said right to my face. His words stung a little bit, but I didn't put much thought into it. Until he said his next set of words, “Why can’t you just be a normal human, so I can kill you?”
Confusion filled me as I tried to make sense of what he said. But then I remembered that they needed me to expand their family. I was of no use if I was dead. Donny stared at me with so much hate, I didn't know what to think at that moment. Even my attempts to try to escape stopped as I stared into those red eyes.
"The only solution I have to this problem is to bring you with me and drain you dry," he said with a smile that was more wicked than the one before.
Fear shot through my body. He was going to kill me and it wasn't going to be painless. My struggles resumed. I was starting to think that it was going to be useless when the arms around me suddenly disappeared. I turned around to see a David's dad taking care of the member of Donny's family that was holding me. Mike then came running in through the front door and tackled Donny to the ground. I was so relieved to see Mike that I kind of felt bad for forgetting about him.
I sat on the stairs in hopes that I didn't get caught in the crossfire. It was too late when I realized that I should have looked before going. A girl with bleach blonde hair was there. She gave me a quick smile before bashing me in the head with something. Knocking me out cold.
