《The Intelligent Ogre (Dropped for remake)》Chapter 10 - Ogre Regeneration, and 'Aftereffects'

When Jake thought of learning the ogre regeneration, he was then sucked into the grey space with a theory in front of him.
The theory was like BCR, but with small difference of the area the vitality should be used. According to the theory, ogres had great regeneration naturally, but it is usually focused on ‘recovering blood cells’ not ‘repairing blood cells’ like the BCR.
The method this time was focused on placing vital energy on the bone marrow, which usually produces 95% of ogre cells (like humans).
After Jake finished reading all the theory it dispersed, and the same machine that the BCR skill needed appeared.
Jake felt fear, but his body didn’t stop, it adjusted the controls on the machine, then after he was done, Jake sat right in the machine without taking more time.
When Jake was in the machine, he started cursing, what ‘motivation medical pill’, this was just controlling his body through controlling his motivation! Well, at least his fear was somewhat suppressed otherwise he would have just left the device. While the medicine didn’t work like how Jake hoped, it still helped him do stuff while holding down the other emotions.
The device then stuck the needles into Jakes’s body, but his time into his bones, or rather in his bone marrow. Then as Jake expected he felt pain, pain beyond what the BCR or the pain resistance skill training required. Jake almost passed out, but the device didn’t let him.
The device injects a ‘pain reliver’ just enough for Jake to not pass out. Jake had added that option when setting up the device just in case he passes out in the middle of training his skill.
Jake didn’t feel grateful for the machine having that option now, he would rather pass out. Jake while cursing both the device and the motivation pill, waited for the device to stop injecting the destructive fluid. After waiting for what felt like forever, the device finally stops injecting the fluid.
Jake wasted no time, and he to start training the skill, he wanted to get rid of the pain as quickly as possible.
This time Jake started to guide the vital energy in a more experienced manner even without the ‘vitality simulator’, due to his experience of controlling vital energy (his BCR skill), but it was still difficult.

After a while, Jake found the best place where to guide the vital energy in the bone marrow, for the most blood to be produced.
A long time later, Jake felt something ‘click’, which afterwards he no longer needed to concentrate on making blood cells, Jake’s body just did it by itself.
Knowing this usually meant, Jake left the grey space returning to the white space.
The first thing Jake did was check the system, which showed he learned the ‘ogre regeneration’ passive skill at level 1. Then he checked the time he spent which surprisingly was less than two days. It seems that learning a similar skill took less time, which was helpful knowing.
Jake suddenly started feeling very happy, maybe too happy. Asking the system, it seems a side effect of the motivation medicine, after completing a task large, amounts of chemical substance like dopamine, but stronger, are released Jake’s brain.
Jake couldn’t help but want to learn something new, it seems like the motivation medicine was ‘somewhat’ addictive.
Jake had close to two days remaining, Jake decided to upgrade the pain tolerance skill while the motivation medicine after effect lasted. Otherwise, Jake felt that he would likely never upgrade that skill ever again.
Jake returns to the grey space then started reading the theory for pain tolerance (2). Like previous time, he felt this was one of his dumbest ideas, to actually continue learning pain tolerance what was wrong with him.
After learning the theory, he had one thought in his mind, “I’m leaving”. Though it didn’t go as planned he stayed in the grey room. Deciding to ask the system why he didn’t leave, it responded that he didn’t want to leave? While Jake had his questions, they were answered the next second.
The theory disappeared and the machine from the last time he learned pain tolerance appeared. While trying to stay away from the devices, Jake realized that he was moving forward. Jake knew the motivation medicine was acting up again. Jake took one last gamble, he yelled, “System get me out of here.”
Though nothing happened other than Jake finishing setting up the device, then moving to sit in it. Though the system said, “I am not part of the HCTS, I am a sperate entity. I cannot control the HCTS, and only give advice. Like giving you the motivation medical pill, which was actually part of the HCTS you only had to think of it.”

Jake cursed because he felt the device starting again. This time the pain was bad, it felt just as painful as learning the ogre regeneration. Thankfully, Jake had more experience with pain than just his previous life and started to follow what pain tolerance theory level 2 required.
After trying for what felt like forever, the pain remained, but his tolerance to it increased. Jake felt like the pain was still bad, but not unacceptable. Then after a few more hours the device stopped, and Jake return to the white space.
Jake felt ready to curse the HCTS, but the feeling of ‘happiness’ returned, but this time it was much greater. Jake just wanted to do something else, though he barely managed to stop himself. Jake asked what was going on, the system told him that the greater the challenge the more happiness he would get in return.
Jake wanted to keep talking, but his mind couldn’t concentrate he had to do something. Looking at the time remaining, which around a day, Jake decided to take it easy and learn to control his energy better. This was because Jake almost died from just eating a piece of meat, and if he controlled the energy from the meat better, the problem might not have gotten that bad.
Wasting no more time, Jake was sent to the grey space once more, and started learning the theory behind energy control level 2.
In the middle of learning the theory, Jake felt his body being sucked into the white space before returning to reality. It seemed that he ran out of time in the HCTS.
After he returned, Jake felt ‘something’ removed from him and felt a sense of loss. Jake asked the system, it seemed that the aftereffects of having his emotions controlled, even if slightly, started appearing.
Jake felt less motivated and feeling slightly depressed, which a few seconds later stabilized. It seemed that the aftereffects that would take a while to stabilize wouldn’t affect him much due to the mental stability skill, though he still feels slightly bad somehow.
While he was stabilizing back to ‘normal’, Jake felt a ‘hand’ touch his shoulder. Jake took a moment to notice it when Jake saw it was ‘plant’ again. While Jake was wondering what it was trying to say, the plant used the same technique to talk to him again.
It started ‘telling’ Jake that his condition stabilized faster than it thought, so Jake could go ‘home’ earlier.
This was likely due to the passive regeneration skills that Jake learned. Though there was obviously a price for everything for using the regeneration skills, large amounts of vitality will be consumed to heal his body.
While Jake waited for the aftereffects to occur, they never did. Jake was confused according to the theory it should have appeared by now. Jake asked the system and it told him something that brought back some ‘joy’ back into his life.
The system said, “All ‘PASSIVE’ skills learned in the ‘HCTS’, will have energy supplied for them from the ‘CHOAS’, though ‘ACTIVE’ skills WILL NOT.”
For Jake this was very helpful because if he had to supply his own energy for the passive skills he has, Jake would run out of energy.
This according to what he had read during energy control, is why most creatures will stop themselves from creating infinite amounts of passive skills and becoming nearly invincible (well other than wasting too much time learning and understanding them as well).
While Jake was feeling happy, the ‘plant’ grabbed him and had him stand. While Jake was feeling confused, the plant told him to walk with it. Jake feeling, he had no other choice, followed the plant towards the ‘exit’.
Jake saw the bright light causing him to squint. This was the first time Jake saw the ‘sun’ in this body of his.
Jake turned and saw the ‘village’ that he would be living in.

It Sucks Being a Side Character
Beat the bad guy, save the day, get the girl. These are the three steps of success every good Hero strives for. But for Lee, those three things are an impossible bucket list. For a side character, there's no beating the bad guy, there's no saving the day, and there's definitely no getting the girl!As a side character in a typical Shonen story, all that awaits Lee is loss, cliches, filler arcs, and a whole lot of cheering the protagonist along from the sidelines. Can Lee change his destiny in a group full of walking tropes? Or will he be stuck watching from the sidelines? Only one thing is for sure, it sucks being a side character!
