Sir Gagap drink some water, then stayed silent for a long time, lookin like an old man reminiscing his past.
Little John wait for half a minute before asking. "What happened next?"
The old man smiles as he was waiting for little John to ask.
"What do you think happened next little John?"
"The humans age war."
Sir Gagap laughs at little John's answer. "Right, of course humans love to wage war. Anyway if you want to learn more go visit the Lett magic school's library.
I told you about this because its the mages custom. Every beginner mage must know about this story, as a sign of respect and gratitude of humans to the elf's.
Now let's talk about you, as a mage who just take his first step on the path of magic, your focus must be on
1. Opening the other magic viens
2. Enlarging both the magic viens and the soul space
3. Strengthening both the magic viens and soul space.
4. Study runes and magic circles."
"Sir what is the soul space?"
Sir Gagap told little John that the soul space is the place where all the mana gather inside the human body or rather head.
The first three can be easily solved with a meditation technique.
A meditation technique is not a spell, because spells need mana while techniques consumes either stamina, life force or mental force.
Meditation technique needs mental force, so the stronger the person's mental strength, the longer one can meditate.
Little John asked about runes, but sir Gagap just told him its a topic for another day.
Then the whole morning was spent on sir Gagap teaching little John the Basic Meditation Technique, or BDT in short.
The BDT is a low level meditation technique but is the most balance and widely used in all magic schools.
Low level meditation techniques have only one skill, medium meditation techniques have two and high level meditation techniques have three.

The BDT is the best low level meditation technique for beginners because its skill 'increase mana control.'
In a simple terms, it's just about gathering mana in your soul space then letting the mana spin and circulate and you can use that mana to open magic viens.
This time its the opposite of the one on the awakening ceremony.
The mana now starts at the soul space, then pushed through the mana viens until they reach the spore and finally outside the skin.
A beginner mage must pull the mana back to the magic viens after they reach outside since they will dissipate in the air because mana need stronger control the farther they are from a mage's body.
A rank 1 mage normally can control mana two inches away from his skin.
For those who hasn't reach rank 1, they dissipate just by being outside the body.
Little John is an exception to this rule because he has the 'child of mana' body, which make the required mental force to control mana a lot smaller then normal.
Opening the body's magic vien is just a part if what BMT can do.
It can also be used in enlarging and strengthening the magic viens and soul space which sir Gagap teach little John the whole morning.
Little John go home to eat lunch while trying to remember all that he learned that morning.
After lunch with his mother, he sat and try to meditate the same way he did with sir Gagap.
He did meditate earlier but only last a minute since they still need to continue their lessons.
This time little John emptied his mental force and was surprised he last for more than an hour of meditation.
According to sir Gagap a beginner only last 15 minutes and those with talents can meditate as long as half an hour.
After emptying his mental force little John feel dizzy and his head hurt a little. He didn't care because his harvest was greater than expected, he opened two new magic viens in just an hour of meditation.

He drink some water take some rest then go the empty clearing to exercise.
He found Mike already perspiring so he joined his friend and spend the afternoon on their daily routine.
That night little John tried to meditate but found he only recovered little mental force, for he only meditated for five minutes before his head starts hurting.
The next day little John go to the guest house again and found old man Mograine drinking tea.
The old man ask little John about his meditation and little Jhon told the old man about his experience.
The old man just nods at little John's story as he drink his tea slowly.
After drinking his tea, old man Mograine told little John that the regeneration of mana and mental force are fast when resting and faster when sleeping.
What old man Mograine will teach little John is about runes.
Note that normally runes are only told to kids when they start attending the magic school.
Kids who just awakened prioritized mastering the basic meditation technique and mana control that they don't have time for other things.
Old man Mograine is confident that little John still has enough time to study runes while doing what the other kiddy mages normally do.
Runes are like a written language its just these runes don't represent sounds or things which what words normally do.
According to the mages understanding, runes represent commands, elements, laws and many more.
Runes are needed to create magic circles, arrays and magi items.
This clearly meant that a mage's life is closely related to runes.
The human mages, had studied an discovered more runes as years pass by, but the first runes used by humans are copied from the elf's.
Even now where humans magic already surpassed the elf, it is believed that their are more runes undiscovered than those the humans knows.
For beginners mages like little John, runes are used to make magic circles.
Speaking of magic circles, they are the body or structure of a spell.
For example a fireball, if a mage want to make a fireball, he will use mana to create flame which is easy.
But that flame is just hot and cannot fly far away for the mental control needed for that are too great.
Another thing is that flame needed to be compressed to make it hotter and have a round shape, then the mage need mana to push that ball if flame and the more man's the faster that ball will fly.
Lastly the mage need to add mana to protect that ball from dissipating before it hits it target.
All these reason make a normal fireball very expensive in terms of mana cost, for every move required mana and the casting time needed for that simple fireball is too long because the caster need to do many things.
Magic circle help mages skip those steps.
When a mage memorized a magic circle, he can create one in his soul space using visualization.
The body of the magic circle is made of mana and as the magic circle is created inside a mages soul space, the fireball will materialize in the mage's hand.
This made mages spells faster to cast and lesser mana required.
Old man Mograine show little John an image of a basis fireball's magic circle.
It consist of two circles, one bigger and an smaller one inside.
The smaller one has few runes inside while the bigger one as many runes surrounding its side.
After the few hours of learning, old man Mograine give little John a book, and told him to return I later I they meet again.
The book is about basic runes mostly used on basic spells.
Little John go home again with a dizzy head trying to memorize everything he learned that morning.

There for the first time, he will make true friends and find people he will come to see as family. He will encounter strong enemies, build powerful alliances, and become a person his ancestors would be proud of. But surrounded by creatures he thought only existed in tales and pressed by the Empire’s constant expansion, Jayce’s safety may be only an illusion. To survive a world fraught with danger Jayce will need to grow stronger with each new experience and rebuild his once forgotten house. ********************************************************************** Note: The story starts slow. Although there is more action as the story progresses, there is a fair amount of introspection and character introduction in the first 30 chapters. Jayce is the main character, however, other characters play a large role and the story is seen through multiple POV's. This is a draft, it is not a finished work. This is not a story that focuses on an OP MC who beats up on weaklings. At times there can be a fair amount of internal monologue. Some of that may be edited out when I rewrite the story. I decided to keep it in the draft because I think it is better to have too much material rather than too little when I edit. Constructive criticism is appreciated as it helps in the editing and rewriting process. Check out my other story Shattered Mind here
