《The Novel's Unifier》Chapter 17 - Food (1)

"What do you have there?" Arthur asked, as he spun around.
Danny did remember ordering something, but he though there was no way it was already here.
"Boxes," he replied, as Arthur huffed. Before opening them, he got a knife from the kitchen. He may have been able to open it with just his strength, but that seemed strangely barbaric to him.
He cut the tape on the smaller one, that lay on top of the bigger one. Inside the box was a dark, pitch black space that he couldn't see the bottom of.
Still, he carefully reached his hand through, feeling something.
He grabbed it, pulling it out of the box, only to find... another box.
'The mystery intensifies,' he thought to himself, as he opened the box.
Turns out, it was the earrings he had bought the day prior. It had many intricate carvings along the box, with swirls, lines, flowers, and waves, intertwining perfectly. But the earrings, despite seeming completely normal, had something that made him like it more.
It was much more simple, with a purple hue. It was shaped like a tear drop, hanging by a chain connected to a magnetic clasp.
"You got a girlfriend, or something?" Arthur teased, giggling to himself. Danny ignored him.
He clasped it onto his earlobe, feeling a tingling sensation through his body.
He couldn't check the Item's description, since he didn't have a Gift related to observing, but he had a Status.
A Status was only visible to someone who had reached a state of Enlightenment. No one really knew why it happened.
Anyway, he pulled out his phone, as Arthur grumbled in his chair. He glossed over his Status, seeing the changes he expected.

Danny stared at his Status, wondering if there was an error. Wasn't it meant to be C-?
He glanced at Arthur, who had healed him past his poisoned state. "Hey, Arthur," he called. Arthur perked up.
"Yes, little duckling lost on a path he knows nothing about?" he responded. Danny still found this to be weird, but didn't call it out.
"What Rank can you detoxify poison, with that remedy?" he asked, turning his head away from Arthur.
Arthur seemed to ponder his question, but excitedly answered anyway. "Around C- Rank, if you're lucky. Like you were."
Somehow, Danny saw Arthur playing a game that was definitely different from his previous game.
Danny focused onto the other box now. He opened it.
Just like before, he reached in, pulling something out. It was a body, one that was not human. It was a Monster, in the shape of an Armadillo, though much bigger. Its shell was a bright blue, almost like the sky. There was a small gap, which he fumbled around with.
He lifted it up, finding wings underneath. A shiver was sent through his body.
He moved to the kitchen, bringing the dead Armadillo-like creature with him. He plopped it onto a pan, turning the heat up. It would cook slowly.
Until it cooked, he was worried about how to get rid of the shell.

He searched it up, finding inconclusive words and advice that seemed wrong to him.
Even until it was fully cooked, he couldn't find a way to properly deshell the animal.
He just decided to cut through the underside, which was rather easy. Then, he peeled the shell off, still attached with some skin.
He didn't have to worry about blood, as it should have been drained by the person who caught it. Monster blood was a precious material, after all.
He waited for the Monster to cool down by watching Arthur play his game. It was basically the same as his previous, yet very different in art and characters.
But, there was one opponent who seemed to be targeting him. In addition, he also seemed quite good at the game.
"What did you do?" Danny asked, leaning on the chair. Arthur had died, for the fifth time, against the same person: .
"I don't know," Arthur cried, after he finished yelling at the screen. "I even switched games to avoid him."
Then, in the chat box, a message appeared:
Arthur screamed in rage, as he almost punched the screen. Luckily, Danny held him back, as he struggled to move.
Still, he could have escaped. But Danny let him go, after feeling he was calm enough, to check on his food.
It looked disgusting, as the insides were no longer inside. Instead, they were filtering out of the hole he cut earlier. But, it did seem cold enough to eat, so he ate a little bit of it.
There wasn't a notification, so he kept eating. And eating.
He ate it all. He was still hungry, as he started prepping his other Monster.
This one, he knew off the back of his hand.
It was one of the more common Monsters, a Horned Rabbit. As they were Rabbits, they were everywhere. They were normally left alone, since they were harmless. But, their numbers were dwindled a couple times a year, in order to stop them from reproducing too much.
Thankfully, he knew how to cook Rabbit. Although, scraping out the insides was still disgusting.

Maybe with a bit of luck and planning, he can build a force to defend the world without anyone realizing it. Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.

Interface
Welcome to the World-City of Thousel, the sixth iteration of life on the planet. These are the recordings of the people of Thousel. Thousel is believed to be the second longest iteration of life, and the overall most prosperous compared to what we know about the past five iterations. Medicine and technology have all progressed abundantly, and the world itself has been turned into one great city, governed and managed by the Governmental-Company Alliance, or the GCA.These particular recordings concern the discovery of a peculiar machine. When two very different people find themselves bound by the fate of one mysterious bot, life in the World-City begins to change… Interface is a cyberpunk webnovel set in an ecumenopolis world where people evolved with electro-sensory abilities. These senses shape the face of modern technology and life in a world where the three largest corporations run what has effectively become the government. Each of these three companies control various aspects of life in the city, and they all constantly vie for domain and power over one another. The world stands at the precipice of biological, technological, and historical breakthrough. After decades of study into microbiology, archaeology, and geology, it has been discovered that sentient life has lived on the planet multiple times over. These past peoples are referred to as the “prior iterations of life,” and it is believed that five great civilizations were constructed before the rise of the modern world. No one can be sure for certain what caused these peoples’ extinction long ago, and the theories range from simply dying off over time to massive tectonic fractures in the face of the planet. Advanced technology, far more complicated than anything the people possess today, has been uncovered in multiple locations. This has lead scholars to speculate on exactly how long each iteration of life survived and how far they progressed as a society. None of the companies have been able to find a way to make this ancient technology work for their own profit. It is as though they are each missing the final key needed to unlock these centuries old secrets. What could this knowledge reveal about the nature of life across every iteration? What power could it give to the one who wields it?Far from the investigation into the origin of life, two kids unlock a new mystery – one that ties their fates to the discovery of an old, mysterious robot. Suddenly, eyes begin to turn towards them as life in the city of Thousel changes wherever they go…
