《Dual Rebirth (BL)》Chapter 20

A week passed and now Kence can already make a small ball of fog made from Soul Power. This result greatly dampened his mood, he thought that he don't have any talent in the field of alchemy. Even then he still tried to persevere on his training, even if he can't become an alchemist but training his Soul Power to enter the physical realm has an advantage on its own
His Soul become strong in the process and stronger soul means that his cultivation speed will increase! Add that with the Soul Boosting pill that the academy gave to the students made his cultivation speed to increass again!
Soul Boosting Pill was different from Soul Nourishing Pill. The latter will strengthen one's soul permanently but the former can only do so for a limited amount of time. But even then the Soul Boosting Pill was easier to make and the academy gave all the students a bottle each containing fifty pills. Comparing it to how much Soul Nourishing Pill they gave out was like comparing a drop of water to an ocean
Sven didn't say anything about his Soul training but that just made things worst for Kence! For him Sven's silence was just him being a 'sensitive' kid and trying to not make Kence feel bad.
If only Kence informed Calter that he was training to become an alchemist he will know whether he was talented or not. But he wants to surprise Calter in case that he was qualified as an Alchemist while saving himself from embarrassment if he was not. That is why even now he didn't informed this to Calter
When the two come close to the room where the alchemy class will take place the scent of medicinal herbs and pills assaulted their nose. Kence was having mixed feelings on that smell, a part of it smells nice but the scent was so strong that it overwhelmed his sense of smell. Sven on the other hand was unbothered by everything that was happening around him
When they entered the room they saw rows of long tables and chairs. There are cauldrons, glass tubes, and vials together with the variety of herbs. There were already some students inside who were checking things out, some even grimace at the quality of things in there. Unlike Kence who didn't know almost anything these Noble kids already have some preliminary knowledge regarding alchemy. If Sven didn't teach him some basic knowledge he would surely be clueless
They know the basic herbs and process on making pills, they just lack practical experience. Sven walked towards the back intending to sit there but Kence lightly tug on Sven's robes. Sven turned back to see Kence who was as if thinking if he should say what's on his mind
If it was before, Sven would surely lash out on Kence. Although the kid didn't touch him directly but this would normally make him very annoyed. However, after a week of teaching some things to Kence made Sven to think that another person's company was not that bad. After all in his past life he was always alone, even when he gained a new body and life he prefer being alone.

Interacting with Kence wasn't that bad of a feeling for Sven but he will never admit that. "C-can we sit close the front for now? I-I want to listen" Kence asked unsurely. For him aside from Sven teaching him there was nothing much that changed in their relationship. Sven only talk to him when he was giving him pointers. In normal times Sven was back to his normal self of ignoring everything around him
Sven wanted to refuse but seeing Kence's hand that was slightly shaking while tugging on his robes made him unable to refuse. He always want seating at the back to avoid too much attention and it was easier to hide that he wasn't listening. But it looks like Kence is nervous and wants to listen attentively to the teacher. Sven didn't know why Kence was nervous, for him the kid with his talent in soul control has a high chance in becoming a great alchemist. What Sven forgot though was to say that to Kence and not make the feel kid that he was untalented
Sven nodded and walked to one of the chairs in the middle and sat on it. Kence followed suit and the two along with the other students waited for the teacher to arrive. Kence was fidgeting and extremely uneasy on his chair while Sven just closed his eyes to start cultivating
After a few minutes the teacher finally arrived and all the students turned to look at him. The teacher was an extremely old man that is full of wrinkles on his face. He was lightly smiling giving the others the impression of a kind old man
"Ehem good morning students" although he looked like a frail old man his voice was unexpectedly stern. The students greeted back, as just like their teacher in General Cultivation this old man was responsible for the allocation of cultivation resources. "I am Otto, Otto Sternix your alchemy teacher"
The students started chatting with themselves when they heard their teacher's name. They are all excited when they learned the surname of this old man. Sternix was the Noble Clan who has the most talented Alchemy talents. A lot of people from this clan became successful alchemist thanks to their talents, resources and knowledge
They may not be the most powerful clan but their wealth can even rival the wealth of the Duke's Clan who gained taxes from all of its citizens.
"Why are they acting like this?" Kence turned to Sven with a confuse face. He really didn't know much about the powers in the Dukedom. "Sternix is a powerful alchemy clan in the dukedom"
Sven made sure to say 'in the dukedom' as calling them powerful was too much of an overstatement. Any of the alchemy clans he knew in his past life was millions of times more powerful and talented that this Spernix Clan.
His words although not detailed still made Kence to understand ths situation and he looked at their old teacher with some admiration
"Before we start our class, we will first have a pre-test" the students groaned and some started worrying that if they failed they will not be able to continue learning alchemy. This was specially true for Kence who perhaps the most clueless person there. There aren't any commoners who joined the class as they are 'realistic'

The commoners knew their position and even if they have some talent they are too afraid to try becoming an alchemist. Kence was already slightly regretting that he tried this foolishness of his
Otto chuckled at the students' reactions. "Don't worry students this will be just a simple test" Otto walked to one of the table and picked one of the herbs
It was a red colored grass named which was actually called 'red grass' a basic ingredient. It can be use to make a Rank 0 pill that was effective to Bloodline Assimilation Cultivators. "You all just need to do this"
From Otto's hand a few thin tendrils of fog that was his Soul Power wrapped around the grass and cutting it into smaller pieces. The Soul Power entered the physical realm so abruptly and natural that Kence took a sharp breath in shock. "S-so skillful!" Kence exclaimed and the admiration he has for the old teacher increased ten fold!
Sven snorted at hearing Kence, for him Otto's skill in using his soul power was too crude and barbaric. "I just need to see if you already has some basic control over your Soul Power. As you all know Soul Power was one of the most important thing for alchemist!"
Some rejoice at how the test will be conducted will those who are lacking in talent was in despair. "Be serious on this test every one. The academy was generous to let those who will fail to still attend alchemy class but they won't get resources for a month"
Although those who will fail can still attend the class but this was undoubtedly a huge blow for them. Not getting resources will make it even harder to gain some success in alchemy. The academy after all don't want to waste precious resources on untalented ones. If not for the Nobles who will feel humiliated if they are banned in the class the academy won't do this
Kence was a little relieve. When he at least can make his soul power enter the physical realm in just a few seconds Sven ordered him to do things similar to the test. He tear random grass that he can see using his soul power and he gained quite a bit of skill on it even though it was just a week's training
"And to avoid cheating we will do this one by one. Come to me as I call your name"
Otto took out a paper containing all the student's names and called the first one. The student closed her eyes and she entered her spiritual world where the soul is located. She controlled a bit of her soul power to bypass the barrier from spiritual world to physical world. She was one of the untalented ones and it took more than ten seconds for a small wisp of fog to come out from her finger tips. This fog was too weak to even tear apart a fragile grass thus she failed
Her face paled and some tears gathered around her eyes. She was sure that her clan would be angry at her for this disgrace. Otto patted the student's back to comfort her. "There, there. I'm sure you can do better next time" his comforting words made the student to bit her lips to hold herself from crying
Seeing the first one failed made Kence to look at Sven. If not for him he might not even know how to make his soul power exit the spiritual world. "T-thank you for teaching me again" his blushing face filled with sincerity tugged at Sven's heart.
As Sven has a lot of experience he has a good skill in discerning who was genuine and who was fake. He can see how Kence was sincere and really thankful for his help. This kind of pureness was too rare in the God's World that it almost didn't exised at all
Without him knowing he was already staring at Kence's face that was devoid of any scar or impurities. This made the kid to be uncomfortable and embarass that the shade of red on his face intensified. After realizing what's happening Sven hummed in response and turned his gaze away
Kence was thankful that Sven averted his gaze as it made him really uncomfortable. His heart was pounding like crazy without him knowing why.
The test continued with a 50% passing rate. In actuality the test wasn't that hard nor easy. It's extremely hard for those who have trash talents but those who at least have some talent they can barely pass this test
"Yohan Sternix" when the old teacher announced the student's name all eyes turned on him to see who it was. This Yohan has the surname Sternix then that means he came from the powerful Alchemist Clan! A clan that boasted superior talent in alchemy, they want to witness just how skillful he is
The kid has an arrogant and pompous looking face that will make want to wipe the floor with his face. He haughtily stand on his seat and walk to their teacher. He looked at the students who failed and barely pass with visible disdain on his face. This naturally made them angry but these kids cannot do anything
The Sternix was also a Marquees' Clan just like the Crosmoner. They together with another Marquees Clan made the 'Three Great Marquees Clan.' These clans are only inferior to the Duke's Clan and each has their own field of expertise

The Infinite Labyrinth
(Story complete - Book 1 "Shanghaied", 2 "Shortcuts", 3 "Secrets" and 4 "Sanctions") It is the 19th century, and war smoulders between England and France. Any hope for a quick end to Napoleon's rampage across Europe ended when the Great Gates opened in 1800. For a fortunate few, the strange world of the Infinite Labyrinth offers opportunities, strange descriptors popping in their minds, informing them of growth, and status beyond that of a mere mortal. The materials and power crystal they bring back foster a new age, both military and civilian. Aether-powered Skyships prowl the skies, as all the great nations blessed by the Gates try to turn the blessings of the Labyrinth into immediate advantages. But for Jonas, an apprentice leatherworker, his friend Ira, and so many Londoners, the fabled ones that walk the Labyrinth are distant heroes, seen from afar. They fell short when their Potential was measured, and they fill their mundane lives with distant dreams. One man wants to break the stalemate. The Tyrant of the Dominion of France, Napoleon Bonaparte, has a plan. Eighteen years after the world changed, he will force it to change again. And when civilians are caught in the fallout, the unthinkable happens. Six people, unqualified, forbidden to ever enter the Labyrinth, find themselves stranded in a distant zone, forcefully turned into Professionals. They know little of what that means, but they have to figure out the rules that are now their lot, for they have little hope to escape their predicament otherwise. They need to understand what the descriptors in their minds mean, what each of the strange piece of gear waiting in treasure chests behind terrible guardians can bring them. They have to become Professionals on their own and rejoin the Empire. They will figure out their new lives one way or another. But will there be an Empire waiting for them when the Gates re-open? Caught in a clash of empires and high tiers, they will do what little they can. They will step up and do their best. One way or another. The Infinite Labyrinth is a slice-of-life litRPG adventure set in a real historical setting. It's a hard, crunchy litrpg. Expect blue boxes everywhere, and the system itself is very mathy. It started life as a serial. I prepared some proper worldbuilding, with enough details and background for lots of different potential story arcs, but as I wrote, I realized the main story needs to have a definitive end. So, there are four books in total, for a bit under 1500 pages, plus additional side stories, and even maybe a sequel one day. The Gore tag was added as a precaution because there are a few scenes with some light gore.
