《Path of Salvation》Chapter 045: Aqua II

Since Akio asked, Aqua decided to relay her whole story. The two of them sat down while Reflecta listened in through a mirror. He decided to stay quiet and not crack any jokes for now. All he did was listen as she nonchalantly and completely monotonous expressed the way her life had gone down.
"Unlike many other Dream Catchers I wasn't born into a life of poverty, misery, and neglect. My parents were loving and never strict and even now I can't find any form of abuse no matter how deep I dig into my life. They made sure that I grow up with care, love, and a strong support system. Still, even with all that, I know that there was a certain rift between the two of them."
Though it took her quite a while, she figured out what exactly was the rift between her parents. Her father was gay and only went into the marriage because he didn't want to be disowned by his overbearing and conservative parents. Her mother got into the marriage because her parents considered her a “good-for-nothing”. Since Aqua's father was considered smart, handsome, and expected to get a degree in law, the two got together to please their parents. The two didn't love each other and would rather go back in time even when they do love Aqua. Living a life of misery and unhappiness, Aqua wondered whether or not it was her or some form of outside influence.
"I could help you find out what makes them unhappy!", said a random Z. Aqua trusted it without ever questioning its existence and why it conveniently came to her at a time of peril.
From the age of nine, she fought as a Dream Catcher yet struggled to get far. She somehow survived for three years. It went well for quite a while and was a blast for Aqua. Saving people while generally lifting the mood of those around her, even her parents grew happier. At the age of 12 she met another Dream Catcher just like her. The two were best friends for quite a while and got through even harder challenges. However, her happiness would come to an end rather quickly.
One day her parents decided to divorce and split. Her life of bliss and happiness suddenly came to an end as she watched her parents drift apart. She struggled to understand why it would happen when she's been doing her best for four years until the two of them told her why they split. Though she was happy for the two of them, happy that her parents had found the courage to finally live the way they want to, she also was conflicted. Unfortunately for her, they let her decide where she wanted to live. It was quite clear that neither of them wanted her around. They just wanted to move on.
Aqua ran away. Her and her friend ran away together until they found a place they liked. A year was spent travelling across the country with no one ever questioning why two young teenagers are travelling alone. They made money off bounties and games as they did their best to get by. Gaining a new member or two only to lose them not long after… That was the life they lived for a while. Everything would turn on its head the day her last friend disappeared. Alone and afraid, she contacted a shady bunch of Dream Catchers to get another job while serving directly under the 2nd-ranked Dream Catcher, the one that had full control over all European Dream Catcher, the Sovereign.

The Sovereign had her join the Bavarian Council for two years so that she could then join him in a secret mission involving a divine key. After struggling for so long while having lost her original reason for becoming a Dream Catcher, she pursued duty to make sense of her life. Aqua needed a reason to exist and would accept any as long as it means she has one. The Sovereign gave her a duty.
At the age of eightteen she heard of people chatting and hyping up two particular Dream Catchers: Griseo and Astral. The two were sisters that loved each other yet were condemned to spending most of their time apart. Since the two of them couldn't take being apart any longer, they tried to flee but sadly were caught and labelled as traitors. Though Aqua usually wouldn't care about traitors, something reignited her emotions to burn as bright as they once did. Her and The Sovereign had a massive fight over this little disagreement that resulted in her being let go as a Dream Catcher.
With no purpose once again and her image purposefully being tainted to make her seem just as incompetent as the “cursed child”, Aqua returned to Bavaria because she was angry and wanted to let her frustrations out on Elena. Somehow blaming her simply because of her status, Aqua met with Hellfire who surprisingly wasn't on her side this tme. He was one of the few people she had met that still is alive. She pretty much raised him to become the Dream Catcher he is today. It took her by surprise when he disapproved of her idea and made her reconsider.
She then weasled herself into the lives of Alpha and the others simply trying to understand how to live life now that she's deemed a failure without purpose.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know that was the reason you were so stuck up… I mean… duty-driven!", said Akio. Reflecta was listening in through a mirror and walked on down to the living room.
"Then what do you want to do? Pursue another duty?", she asked rather crude.
"My duty still is fighting Demons. I don't intend to throw that away."
Reflecta sighed and walked up to Aqua to sit down right next to her.
"Fine! But at least ease up a little and have some fun!", she said. Before she could consider that offer of theirs, Reflecta ran off to deal with her own issues.
Akio knew exactly what's up and took Aqua by her hand as he jumped into a glass door leading to the garden. Reflecta sent the three of them to a world untouched by most and hard to reach. She was well-aquainted to it and rather used to skirting around the dangers of this world. Since Reflecta and Akio were used to traversing this plane, the two of them decided to introduce her to it.
"So… Nothing looks different, right?", said Reflecta.
Aqua shook her head as it only seemed like the two phased through the door. Quickly, the duo dragged her back inside. Heading upside, they locked the doors behind them. Trying to remain quiet, they whispered instead of talking like they normally would.

"This may look like your home, but it's entirely different!", she exclaimed. "This world perfectly mimicks the real world but instead of having people within it, it has monsters fully capable of tearing a top-tier veteran like you apart."
Both of them nearly died several times as this world works just like a domain. Though time and space is evenly matched, their inhabitants are not. The permanent inhabitants of this world are mechanoids that are humanlike but also alien.
The mechanoid they were hiding from was a rather simple scouting unit. With several different models, its most known one is that of a dwarf-frog hybrid. Compact torsos to tank damage, frog legs with incredible jumping strength to chase after targets, rather long arms with claws for hands to shred enemies, a veil that blocks their faceless self, their lack of features that indicate reproductive organs, and cables running from neck to lower back and throat to claws…
"We call it “The Fool 0-3”!", exclaimed Akio. "There's also “The Fool 0-2”, its fly variant and “The Fool 0-4”, its bird variant. If any of them spot us, they'll roar and attract even more units. So I suggest you stay quiet."
"We didn't name these things. A Dream Catcher with the name of Tarot explored this world for a while and deemed it too dangerous to explore. Especially the North Pole and the South Pole are to be avoided…", said Reflecta. "Apparently space distorts a lot over there. Going there is a death sentence."
Aqua was curious and wondered just how powerful these creatures are. Before she could carry through with her plan, Akio dissuaded her from doing anything rash.
"What? At least I should be strong enough to deal with them, right?", she asked as she removed his hand.
"You can't get into your own domain. You can't destroy objects from this world. You can't carry objects from this world into our world. If you somehow can manage to drag one of these things into our world, then go ahead."
They headed towards the balcony. Just down the road was one of those scouting units. Unaccompanied by any other units or units of its own kind, Aqua extended her arm towards the creature and grasped its leg to make sure that it can't run away or jump away from them. Quickly, she dragged it into their world.
"That's all?", she asked the two of them.
However, Akio braced for impact and closed his eyes while Reflecta blinked. Aqua looked at the two of them and away from the monster. Looking back she realized that The Fool had disappeared. It somehow vanished and solidified the fact that objects from the other side cannot cross over.
"I guess they also are objects… Maybe only sentient beings can cross over and do as they please?", suggested Reflecta.
Someone jumped in through the glass door. His long, white, and messy hair almost made him seem feral. As young as Hellfire, he stormed into their house without any concern for his safety. He froze as he looked at the three of them.
"Excuse me," he said as he tried to spot a door that could lead him back outside.
Reflecta tied him down with chains while Akio pulled his blade. Aqua approached him to interrogate the strange individual.
"And who are you?", asked Aqua.
"I'm sorry. I was passing by and-"'
"I asked for a name!"
Rather intimidated, he answered, "I'm… Ghost."
"I believe you were trying to escape from one of those mechanoids and ran towards the first reflective surface you can find…" Aqua undid the chains as she saw no need to contain him. "But why would you willingly go in there?"
"I was just trying to explore…"
Reflecta simply redid the chains and linked the glass door with a random glass pane across the country. Throwing him in there, she considered the problem solved.
"What? He didn't do anything wrong so we may as well-"
"At least try sending him home! Imagine if someone did that to you and you end up in a random city you've never been in! At least consider the fact that people literally are out there hunting Dream Catchers for some kind of vigilante justice!", yelled Akio.
"Hunting?" Aqua was unaware of any such things occuring but this didn't take her by surprise. People have been protesting and more religious folks within rather conservative countries have killed a few people. Witchhunts have started over things the common folk barely know anything about and makes vulnerable people easy targets. If you happen to be disliked by the community or someone is jealous of you because of something within your possession, they'll go out of their way to taint your image and create a mob to get rid of you.
And it will only increase from now on as Canada has fallen into the gaze of the public eye. Akio and Reflecta knew because the two spent their day at home while Aqua was away dealing with her own issues. Directly after they were trying to cheer up Aqua and were too busy to tell her of recent news.
"Reflecta, please turn on the TV for us, okay?"
She did as he said and displayed what exactly was going on. Over the entirety of Canada was one veil that made it seem like everything was fine. However, no one left the country. No one could get in contact with whatever is in Canada. Satelite images displayed a perfectly fine Canada.
"Who would do something like this?", asked Aqua.

Blue Hills
Nothing had ever felt quite right for Alexander Adamson. He'd worked his way up to a job he could tolerate, a few casual friends, and even a nice little apartment that he could call his own, though it really wasn't. The problem was that none of it was satisfying. It was as though he were going through the motions of a life, rather than having one of his own. Of course, it didn't exactly feel right when he woke up in a strange bed in the middle of nowhere. Nor when he was told that he was now the proud owner and operator of a local farm. A farm that had belonged to a late uncle he'd never known. But with the first train out of town a full 'season' away, he had plenty of time to get used to the idea. Plenty of time, perhaps, to even get to like the strange little town of Blue Hills. I have a discord now. Marvel at my ability to somehow still be antisocial on the other side of a screen! Back from hiatus along with my other fiction. Chapters are on a Thurs/Sun schedule until book 3 of that fiction is completed, at which point I'll be updating this daily. At which point uh.... I dunno what I'm going to do.

Truck-kun Gets Sacrificed
Driscoll is my own version of a world with a game-like "system" of endless possibilities. MC has his own status, classes, skills, magic, and a living greatswordstaff in a world of monsters, demi-humans of all kinds, and even the supernatural. Sound good? Well, at first for Tru, it was a dream come true(I'm sorry). At least until reality hits him again and again. His quest from God is vague and must be discovered by him along the way. Hopefully, he can figure that out someday but for now, this new world's threats and his potential for power are motivation aplenty. With His new partner by his side, he's ready to embark on his mission of infinite sacrifice, however many lives it takes. The setting is pretty standard for fantasy, with my beginner attempts at writing. Litrpg elements are definitely involved here but It'll calm down as the story progresses and the world's foundation is laid. Judeo/Christian themes and principles take a major role and will be a backbone for much of the story. The fights will paint a picture in the mind rather than just be a bunch of number crunching. While he is meant to be a sacrifice to save all of Driscoll, he needs to gain enough power and influence to be a worthwhile sacrifice, or so he thinks. And so carnage will ensue as he avoids death as best he can while at the same time sacking himself for others. Truck Coon is your average determined, jiu-jitsu practitioner, tax associate that just started his new career. He dies to save kids from a semi-truck(Truck Coon got truck-kun'd, making him Truck-kun) and is transported to another world rather conventionally by God. Upon his arrival, he is quickly confronted with his first conflicts in the wild. Give it a shot and let me know what you think. Chapters are currently between 2300 and 4000 words and I try to post weekly, but also deal with severe limitations that cause late posts often. I have zero actual experience with writing stories and only recently started reading web novels in 2020. If you end up hating it, let me know your thoughts in a detailed comment or review, especially if you love it though :D I want to get better and welcome the feedback, so expect changes to be made with any flaws that y'all point out which I don't already have plans to address in future chapters. That being said, keep it constructive in nature, please. I have no Idea how the formatting and such will go, so if you like or dislike some techniques I try, give me that well-appreciated feedback! Thank you for reading.
