《Path of Salvation》Chapter 042: Bounty Hunters 1.9

"Elena has disappeared!", Prometheia yelled in panic.
Somehow, Elena had gone missing. They don't know whether she left because of her own will or was taken by another. Believing that someone must know something, they thought about others that could know about her whereabouts.
"Where have you checked?", asked Aqua trying to cross off places so that they have less to check.
"Only the hospital. I've spent the entire morning looking for her but she was nowhere to be found for some reason!", exclaimed Prometheia. Worried about Elena's well-being, she was rather skittish.
Aqua recognized that Prometheia was quite distressed and therfore formulated just a few simple plans that could at least help with gathering clues on Elena's whereabouts:
Supposed to be carried out simulataneously, these three plans focus on interrogating potential rivals Elena could have, fellow Dream Catchers, and the Scavengers. Starting off with the first plan: Rivalry, Aqua and Emma are supposed to interrogate Genjo as it was rather well known for him to rant about her and demean her in any shape or form. At some point he threatened to get rid of her “if she were to cause another disaster”.
Plan 2: Dream Catchers, entailed questioning Lamia, Raven, and Dawn House on whether or not they knew something about Sylvia and subsequently follow up with questions on Elena. As soon as the two pairs, Alpha and Hellfire and Liam and Prometheia are done with investigating, they'll come back together to formulate a new plan.
The last plan, Plan 3: Scavengers, entails Franky questioning Altair. As he had chimed in to tell the gang about the few things he can peace together from Altair's little breakdown, Aqua adjusted her plans accordingly as the other version was finding The Collector, a Demon they've found no trace of for five weeks. Now that everyone knows what they're supposed to do to help accomplish the finding of Elena, they set off to search.
Franky went straight for The Collector as he seemed to be rather knowledgable in everything that goes on around the world. Believing him to be the best at finding and disappearing people, he arranged a meeting that same day trying to find Elena as fast as he can.
It was always within that golden bowl… They always met in there to converse.
"So? What are you here for today?", asked The Collector.
"I was wondering whether or not you know of the whereabouts of a companion of mine… Is there anything you know about Elena?", replied Franky.
"You know, I have a name too. It's Nicolay!"
"I'm not here to talk about you and your name. Just tell me whether or not you know about Elena!", hissed Franky.
No response.
"Is there anything you know about Elena, Nico?"
"I don't. I've never met her and was lucky enough to not fight her prior to her decline. But maybe my good friends Don and Ascendant may know a lot more… Should I call them and request an oh-so-urgent meeting tomorrow?"
The two said their goodbyes for now as Franky knows where to meet Don, The Coordinator, tomorrow, and The Ascendant the day after.
"There's also something urgent you might want to talk about, okay? You'll probably come crawling back to me in a couple of days. Bye Bye!"
Hellfire and Alpha were going after Lamia. Alpha had to style himself differently thanks to the media bringing attention to his disappearance. Running away from home and disappearing with no trace certainly brought attention to him and his family. Luckily, he had taken care of anything that could show where exactly he was going to. His phone was obliterated by his light magic. He only pays in cash. He doesn't bring attention to himself. He avoids going out a lot and has stopped ordering food.

Lamia's office was one rather empty but also fancy house with a pool, a basement, and two floors. She still has to work on decorations, making this place comfy, and is missing a lot of furniture. It will take her a couple weeks until the furniture she's ordered will arrive.
"Lamia! Long time no see!", said Hellfire.
"Pardon the intrusion," said Alpha.
It was a lovely house surrounded by bushes and trees on top of a mountain. Rather secluded, Alpha wondered why Lamia would choose such a hard to reach location but dismissed it as a thing Dream Catchers do to stay away from the public.
"So… What brings you here?", she asked as she sat down. Sitting on the only office chair in the house, the two were forced to sit on wooden chairs.
"Elena has recently disappeared. We were wondering whether or not you were responsible!", said Hellfire.
Alpha looked at Hellfire in horror as he wasn't expecting his companion to casually blurt out the matter at hand and accuse her of doing something to Elena.
"We know just how much you wanted Elena's position a year ago. You disliked how a failure and a “cursed child” could claim a high-ranking position before you could."
Lamia was enraged, got up, and ordered, "Get out before I make sure that neither of you leave this place alive!"
Just one wooden table… Two wooden chairs… One office chair…
Slamming his hand onto the table, Hellfire left behind a mark. "Sit down before I make you."
Lamia stood no chance against Hellfire and did as he had ordered. She also didn't want to deal with Aqua knowing that Aqua is backing Hellfire.
"I may have had my fair share of… issues, but I'm not like that anymore. It was her that tried to take on danger she didn't know anything about. Abottsford, Marcela, Fusions… Surprisingly she was the first one to jump into danger's way. I now respect her and wish that she'll recover," claimed Lamia.
"So you really don't know anything about her?", asked Alpha.
"I don't. I'm sorry."
The two of them decided to leave as there was nothing else they had left to discuss.
"Are the two of them okay?", asked Lamia. "Liam and Prometheia… Are they okay?"
"They are! Thank you for your concern. I'll pay for the damages later."
Hyperion was appalled at the way Hellfire handled the situation. While threats and dragging out aggression did work in their favor this time, it could have led to zero answers and a hostile relationship with Lamia.
The day after Alpha and Hellfire took off to talk to Raven. After a long and exhausting conversation, Alpha could convince Hellfire to keep his mouth shut. Trying to keep the situation in control, Alpha did all the talking. Raven, Fox, Anatoly, and Theo were missing.
This time, two members of the Plagues were there to talk to the two of them. Welcoming the two within that gloomy mansion of theirs, they lead them towards the room where the twelve of them would gather to meet. Every seat was replaced with the same throne as Raven's. The room was redesigned to be more modern. Instead of the old wooden interior, there were a lot more whites and silvers. Restyling it with cabinets and a kitchen station, it felt a lot friendlier to its guests and its residents.
"You really changed everything in here, huh?", said Hellfire.
Alpha smacked the back of his head as a sign to tell him to stick to the plan.

"Well… I personally helped with redesigning it. You don't have to refer to me with my title. You can just call me Rena and that fellow over there is Kaeru."
They four of them sat down: Hyperion and Hellfire on one side; Rena and Kaeru on the other.
"As we all know, Elena has disappeared somewhere between 7pm on the 18th of September and 8am on the 19th of September. Yesterday, on the 19th, me and a few others came together to search for Elena and we've been asking around in hopes of finding clues on her."
"What a shame… And here I thought you'd be here for me," Rena said playfully. Trying to crack jokes, she used flirtation. However, Alpha remained deadpan.
"You're no fun…"
Kaeru pinched her trying to get the urgency of the situation across.
"Okay, fine… We know nothing. Bye!"
As if she was the master of the mansion, she kicked the two of them out leaving them behind with zero progress.
Liam and Prometheia were dealing with Daisy and her group of Dream Catchers minus Genjo and Marin. Apparently he was out on a date while she was brooding over him having fun without her. Only the weakest two of the team were present to ask questions on Elena's whereabouts.
"So, uh… Have you heard of Sylvia?", asked Prometheia trying to gauge their stance on the disappearances.
"Why so nervous? Is there something else you're thinking of…", sneered Rouge. The three of them were aware of what they're here for.
Lerone added, "If you really think that we have anything to do with Elena's disappearance, you're wrong. That's all there is to it."
It was time for Plan B. Since they wouldn't even listen to their pleas, they had to get their point across some other way. Aqua has made them aware of the fact that Elena and Daisy's relationship was more on the sour side. Lerone and Rouge were somewhat hard-headed individuals that refuse to change their ways which also tends to reflect in Genjo. Genjo is struggling to move on. Daisy knows not how to deal with her own emotions and still is working on dragging those out.
"No wonder… Someone who has fallen as low as you have obviously struggles with dealing with this situation. Oh why have you fallen this far Phantom?", asked Rouge.
"What?"
"Come on!", said Lerone jokingly. "She was just joking. There's nothing to worry about, right?"
Prometheia, and Liam, confused and slightly distressed, held hands. According to plan, Liam transformed into Chronos and stopped time. His shield gave way to a gun, an Uzi. Firing again and again to riddle everything except for the three of them in bullets while also leaving the upper floor in tact to not hurt Marin brooding upstairs, they fled after causing massive amounts of damage.
Franky finally gets to meet with The Coordinator. He had always wondered what made this particular Demon so special. Whatever it is, maybe it can help with finding Elena.
They met within The Coordinator's domain so that the two of them can stay off-radar. Nicolay lied within the golden bowl listening in on their conversation. He seemed rather satisfied with himself.
Awkwardly standing in front of each other, their thoughts drifted as they had never seen someone like each other. Something about the person in front of him reminded Franky of Alpha. Sitting down and gesturing that The Coordinator sit down next to him, their awkward staring contest came to an end.
"I know this isn't what I came for but… Why are you guiding these Demons?", asked Franky.
"I can feel that they're hurting. No one else wants to help them so I have to!", replied The Coordinator.
"It's Franky…"
"What?"
"My name's Franky. I don't exactly understand what you're talking about but… I don't know. I just have a friend that reminds me of you and I just wanna talk some more if that's alright with you…"
"I'm Don…"
Silence
The two of them forgot what they were here for.
Nico boomed, "Hello?! Your friend?! Be sentimental for no damn reason some other time!"
"Oh yeah… I was wondering whether or not you could help me track down a friend of mine and check if she's okay. Could you do me that favor?"
"Sure," Don replied. "In exchange for another one of those “meetings” if that's alright with you."
Once again, Franky parted ways with The Coordinator.
Aqua and Prometheia were stalking Genjo. Apparently he still went to school and was the rather typical quiet loner while still doing quite well when it comes ot interacting with others. Often keeping up that facade of strength and absolute tranquility, he stood out while reading those romance books of his. However, no one would ever attempt to beat him up as anyone that does try gets beaten bloody.
He's either at school or at Daisy's house. Getting him out of the public eye and away from his family was hard. However, Emma had an idea. A love letter directed towards him telling the two to meet at a certain location. The shortest way there was by foot through an alleyway a lot of people don't use. Supposedly they're supposed to meet one evening at a café.
Genjo fell for it all eager and happy that someone would ask him out. Gladly, he pranced down the alley towards the café where his secret admirer would await him.
"I wonder who it is!", he sung as he stepped forward. At the end of that alley was Emma. All dressed up and smiling, she lured him towards him.
"Marin is gonna be so jealous!", he thought.
With sudden rain coming down on them, Emma remained standing while smiling. Her velvet dress was drenched within seconds. Waiting for any potential bystanders to run towards cover and leave, her smile turned even wider. Genjo was confused and wondered as to why his beloved admirer would allow herself to get drenched in rain. Before he could step closer, the alleyway was sealed off by walls of water and entrapped him. Aqua dragged the three of them into her domain.
The next morning, Alpha and Hellfire set out to meet with the kids of the Dawn House. Since both factions were looking for missing members of their respective groups, Alpha believed that the bits and pieces of information Dawn House must have gathered on Sylvia may help them find Elena. Is this a grand conspiracy involving The Coordinator and The Collector?
"Huh?! Don't be ridiculous!", said the angry fellow, Ikari. Fueled by rage, he believed that the two were mocking the orphaned children.
"Calm down, Ikarus," said Peter. The leading duo was missing as they were spending time on investigating a rumor they've heard of recently.
"Well…", said Ikari. "I didn't mean to be crude but there's nothing else we could do. We barely have any clues on Sylvia. How are we supposed to know about Elena?"
Since they have no more leads, Alpha and Hellfire simply gave up on searching as they knew no other person that could help with their operation. Finding Elena seemed to be out of sight. However, the two of them took a well-deserved break since the team isn't supposed to gather until 9pm today.
Franky now is talking to The Ascendant through Don. Since that person wouldn't show themself, Don had to relay everything The Ascendant would tell him.
"Ask away. I think he's listening."
"Okay… So. Can you tell us about Demons in the area?", Franky asked just to make sure that Elena didn't turn into one.
"He does but he says that you don't have to worry about that since there has been no new Demon since August 1st."
Franky thought about his next question and what would lie within that person's power.
"Can you check how-"
"No. He's currently not capable of checking the level of dark magic within people. For that you'll have to, as he says, “use your fancy tools”…"
This conversation held no answers either but he had one last question.
"He ended the call. I'm sorry," said Don. Just like that, The Ascendant had cut off contact with Don. For some reason he had grown bored and simply left.
Right after this, Franky stormed off to Altair only to be disappointed by even less answers.
Aqua and Emma still have their hostage to rely on. Genjo could yield answers that may lead them to Elena. His hatred for her caused by the loss of his brother may still be present.
"I said I don't know! What else am I supposed to tell you?!", screamed Genjo tied to a trident by ropes of water. Letting him hang upside down and waterboarding him until they believe that there's nothing that he knows, the two of them kept him up all night.
"Come on! Spit it out! I even told my mother that I'm at a sleepover just so that I can deal with this! Telling the truth would make this a lot easier you know!", said Emma.
Since questioning him about his past, his current stance on politics, his hobbies, his antics, and his loved ones doesn't bring them the answer they want, they're gonna threat the life of a loved one with the help of Reflecta.
Popping into the empty warehouse out of a glass pane, they introduced the fake Marin chained up and dragged in here by Reflecta.
"Come on! Or she'll pay for it!", Reflecta yelled as the copy shivered and cried in fear.
"I don't know anything!", yelled Genjo.
With a glass shard, Reflecta slit the fake's throat. However, they didn't get the response they expected.
"She doesn't even have a shadow! Marin would squirm a lot more than that!"
Surprised by his attentiveness, Reflecta let the illusion dissipate. Emma and Aqua were baffled as they had no idea what else they could do except for realize that he knows nothing about Elena's disappearance.
Absolute Defeat.
No one knew anything about Elena's disappearance. The three days spent on looking for her led nowhere and were therefore pointless. Perhaps she has disappeared like Sylvia and lives on for now? Since the investigations resulted in no answers, everyone decided to rest apart from each other. Liam spent his night in the living room watching TV while Alpha spent his time in bed. Franky had gone home to vent to Ben and spend some time with Altair. Emma was with Aqua as she was pretending to be at a sleepover. Hellfire went on patrol just in case Elena really is out there.
Prometheia disappeared on top of the apartment complex. Sometimes, her and Elena would go up there just to relax and vent to each other. Now, for some reason, Elena has gone missing.
"Yo," said a familiar voice approaching Prometheia from behind.

8 201The Undying Magician
How would a true immortal with average talent in magic fare within a world where magic is everything? In the world of Aria, only a small fraction of the population are classified as magicians. These magicians are able to use magic through the manipulation of the mana they are born with and are the core of the military strength within every nation. However, one nation in particular uses magicians to an even higher extreme than the others. This nation is known as The Republic of Arcania. The largest power in Aria. Our story follows Nathan Fox as he graduates from high school and is sent to the Arcane Academy for his required military training as a magician before he eventually serves his ten year term in the military.Nathan has been a true immortal ever since he got a semi-magical disease that makes any damage done to his body instantly reverse itself, bringing him back to his top form on the day that he became an immortal. Ever since then, it has been impossible for Nathan to die.But there are worse things in the world than death. And if the power-hungry magicians of the world were to learn of Nathan's true immortality? Then he might just experience those things himself. What will happen to Nathan as he traverses life in the academy? Will his secret be found out?Or will he be able to safely make it through the four years of academy life with his secret intact? That has yet to be foretold. The beginning of the story starts out slow for what many Royal Road readers are used to and then speeds up after around chapter 20 or so. It is a school arc, so it is supposed to be slow. Most of the combat and action isn't seen until after these chapters, which you can view as an introduction to the world, the characters, and magic itself. Many of the reviews are outdated due to edits I've been making along the way through the story. Specifically some of the edits going over the world itself, including pointing out in the story some of the things a few of the reviewers missed when they wrote their reviews, along with fixing other things that were pointed out in the story from the reviews and comments. This book is also being edited as it's being written, so some small parts might change as I get suggestions from readers. I do not write harem or sexual content in my stories. Ever.
