《Path of Salvation》Chapter 033: Two Weeks

Alpha, Emma, and Franky were dealing with a particular Demon of note. Alpha had met it before prior to becoming a Dream Catcher. However, it fled before Elena could vanquish it and as such remained for long enough that it could evolve. “Blue Rose”, had grown stronger within the month that had passed since its last appearance. Now that Alpha has been a Dream Catcher for over a month and is quite close to the two-month-mark, he is far more reliable and a lot more formidable. Two weeks have passed since Elena's return and as such they had grown even more as a team as they were forced to deal with Demons on their own.
The three of them standing within a barn, were surrounded by its minions. Appearing right in here, Alpha thought of scouting the area before letting the other two leave the barn. Prometheia appeared right as he tried to do so. Popping into this domain within her human form, she tried to disuade them from leaving the barn.
"I don't think you should leave yet. I can scout out the area around it since Demons are a lot less hostile to Zs," she offered. However, Alpha disagreed.
"A lot less hostile... What if it does attack you? You wouldn't survive one hit, would you?" Alpha had valid issues with her plan. Still, Prometheia wanted to help in some shape or form. As such, he offered to have her use his divine key, Theia, to fly out of the barn and look for anything that may stand out.
Doing as told, Prometheia took off leaving through a crack in the wall. Anxiously awaiting her return. Returning only a few minutes after she had left, Prometheia relayed the situation.
"The domain has changed drastically. The sun still shines as it did when you first met it but everything else has changed. We're surrounded by an endless forest of wisteria trees. It seems as if we should reconsider fighting this one as a team since they seem to give off strange pheromones as soon as something passes by them. They don't affect me as much as a Z and only cause slight fatigue, rashes and nausea, but they're still dangerous. Maybe Hyperion should handle this alone?"
Franky was against it. Even if this Demon has displayed no aerial minions nor the capability to follow up with long-range attacks, its domain has changed so much that they don't know what to expect.
"I can quickly release all my magic to create a massive amount of swords, right? That should at least clear the area!", he insisted trying to make Alpha face this with them and not alone.
"I don't think it's that easy," Emma added. "As soon as you do that, the pheromones definitely will be steared our way. Wind from any direction would just blow the pheromones our way, right?"
"Not if all of us take off right after. Prometheia just has to turn into a Z and the rest can hold on as we fly up, right?"
They agreed. With a solid plan, they now know how to deal with Blue Rose. However, two more people entered this domain. Walking in through a crack in space, the two meet this odd duo. Bracing for trouble, Franky pulls unsheathes his longsword and goes into postion.
Walking in, one of them screams as she stumbles over her feet believing that she's facing the Demon or at least a few of its minions but noticed that a Z rested on top of Alpha's shoulders and relaxed. The guy she was with cringed as he couldn't bear her reaction.

"We're sorry for just stumbling in here. We didn't know that there was someone else already dealing with this Demon. We'll leave right away," he stammered as he avoided their gaze.
As the only known methods for leaving a Demon's domain is running to the edge of the domain or neutralizing the Demon. It would mean that, if they don't have the ability to fly, they'll simply have to walk beneath the wisteria trees and risk their lives. Alpha couldn't allow that and instead demanded that they stay. He knew that they were foreign to Germany as they spoke in english and wanted to help them if possible.
"You should stay. There are a bunch of trees outside this empty barn that spread pheromones and we don't know how much damage they can do to you. I'm Hyperion," Alpha said standing upright and rather confidently. "These are King and Sugar. The Z on my wrapped around my neck is Prometheia. Nice to meet you!"
He stretched out his hands to shake their hands. As Franky resheathed his sword, the girl got back up shaking his right hand as the boy shook his left.
"I'm Nyx," stuttered the gloomy guy.
"And I'm Lorien. Nice to meet you!"
Lorien and Nyx were total opposites. Lorien often overreacted, seemed rather open, and seemed rather cheerful. Nyx was quite reserved, struggled with talking to people, and looked rather tired and annoyed. Lorien fought with a crossbow while Nyx used mallets. Hyperion and Lori as long range fighters, Sugar and Nyx as mid range fighters, and King as a close range fighter... It made for a rather versatile team.
"We should work together to defeat this Demon. Does one of you have the ability to summon some form of barrier?", asked Alpha.
"I do and it's really practial as you only have to infuse your magic with mine to launch attacks out of it! It even can stretch like bubblegum and-"
"Thank you but I think that's all we need to know, Lorien," Alpha said as gently as he could.
"I'm sorry... I tend to blubber on when I'm in high-tension situations. Won't happen again," she claimed.
Nyx had an idea. He proposed, "I can get rid of the trees within our immediate vicinity. I use shadows to create fields of darkness that swallow everything up."
"Then that's all we need to lure the Demon out. Let's get a move on and defeat this Demon!", Hyperion announced. Getting as close as they can without touching each other, they awaited Lorien's barrier. Rose-colored, it put a rose colored filter onto the outside world. Nyx proceeded with touching the barrier and made the shadows within this domain; ouside the barrier stretch until they touched each other. They then enlarged to fill empty space with no shadows where the sun reached through.
"Ok, how long will it take for you take everything down?", Hyperion asked.
"Only a couple minutes. Taking in this many objects takes some time."
Hoping that this goes smoothly without intervention, they notice vines trying to take the barrier down the group. KIng reacted quickly enough to not interrupt Nyx's shadow procedure. Cutting them down pretty much instantly without hurting anyone within this cramped space, he proved to be even faster than before. Emma clicked her tongue.
"Huh?", King asked knowing something was up with her.
"You're just a show off, right? I could have burned them down myself..."
King simply flicked her forehead to dismiss her further cementing the new dynamic formed within the past two weeks. The roots returned and King allowed those around Emma to tie her down before she could do anything. Pouting, she said, "I'm sorry. Now unbind me you fiend!"

King cut the vines binding Emma as Lorien started laughing. Turning red, Alpha snickered at her stupidity. Though she was the most responsible when it came to everyday responsibilities like cooking for herself, going to work five times a week, and so on, she still proved to be the pettiest out of the bunch.
As time went on, the trees finally were down. Taking Nyx five minutes to remove them as King took care of the vines, they finally can engage in battle with the Demon. The land barren and empty with the barn having been torn apart and taken by the shadows, there was plenty that they could see. Dandelion seeds were blown towards them signaling the arrival of their opponent. Blue Rose was ready to engage in battle with them and she was spotted by Hyperion hiding behind a tree several kilometers away.
"Keep the barrier up, Lori. We need to discuss a few more things."
Having figured out a plan, Hyperion knew what needed to be done to defeat Blue Rose.
"King and Nyx will fight the minions if necessary, they shouldn't be too hard to deal with. Sugar, before they take on the minions, I need you to unleash your greatest explosion and retreat into this barrier. I'll snipe the Demon by using my divine key."
Emma jumped out of the barrier as Hyperion reinforced it with his divine key's ability to create barriers. Releasing a massive explosion covering most of the barren land she launched herself upwards by accident and would be defenseless for as long as she is in the air. It created a massive smokescreen before the minions could come into being. Alpha stepped out and threw his divine key right at Blue Rose. Not expecting it, its skull was obliterated right then and there. The domain slowly faded away as Hyperion fetched Emma with his divine key.
Now even more crowded than ever before, the living room was stock full of people. Five Dream Catchers, two of which are not from here, Prometheia, and Ben sat among each other as they discussed how they would move forward with the trespassing issue they've had lately. They inquire reveal why Nyx and Loriel left their positions and made their way here.
"It's a long story for me. I'm looking for family that went missing and have picked up several clues regarding that. This is just a reststop for me," said Loriel awfully reserved despite being capable of blabbering on for hours.
"You could run your mouth in that domain but not here?", King observed. "Are you sure there's not more to it?"
Ben and Prometheia simply kept their mouths shut as they didn't know what exactly they should do.
"Come on. You can tell us some more. We won't bite, okay?"
"I... I honestly forgot that these family members existed and it suddenly just welled up. I noticed just how empty one of the rooms at home was. I realised that my parents were gone and so was my brother. I honestly felt kinda empty so I have to go and look for them."
Emma teared up and added, "You're good to go. How can I keep family apart?" Slightly overreacting Franky flicked her forehead again.
Alpha nodded. "You can stay for a while. Franky probably has an extra room you can crash in, right?"
Though Ben initially was against it, he decided to keep quiet as Lori also was a kid.
"I'm sorry but I can't tell you," said Nyx.
Alpha didn't want to question his motivations but believed this to be a genuine one. The only thing there was left to be told was where they would go and why.
"Where is your endgoal? Where can you find what you're looking for?"
Loriel was hesitant but then stated, "We're heading towards New York. Apparently there's a holy maiden that can answer wishes."
"Wishes? There's no way that-", uttered Franky but he was interrupted.
"I know but so many others are migrating as well. They all heard of it either from a fellow Dream Catcher they knew or a shared dream. Most were sceptical until they too experienced that dream and that's when it happened to the both of us. Since we weren't that far away from each other, we decided to travel together."
Alpha believed them as did the others. They had no reason to lie and were the most open out of the seven that have passed into this city already. As such, they could stay for until summer is over and then move on to their destinations. Prometheia had something to add but left it that this isn't important enough right now.
"Let's make some food first then. You must be hungry and running dry on cash."
Daisy and Genjo hadn't talked since their last little argument and now were left on their own as the others are out for the day. With no Demons in the vicinity, rain pouring down, and all duties taken care of, they were alone and had nothing they could use to get away from each other. They wanted to talk and apologize to each other but didn't know how to do that.
Daisy anxiously walked from the living room into the kitchen.
"Should I heat some water for you?", she asked trying to make conversation.
"Sure."
Neither knew what the other person was thinking but they were happy to be addressed by the other person after such a long time spent brooding. Genjo walked into the kitchen and got himself a cup.
"Could you pass me the sugar?", he asked.
"Sure."
Short questions with one word answers. At this rate they'll get nowhere and such an oppurtunity won't present itself again. As such both tried speaking up.
"I-", they said in unision.
"You go first," said Genjo.
"No no... You should," replied Daisy.
Awkward silence filled the room and made each others presence excruciating. Pouring themself their cups of teas they sat in front of each other.
"I want to apologize," said Daisy. "I should have just asked you to stop talking about Elena like that instead of emboldening you for years."
"No I should apologize. I should have read the room. That who-", he said but corrected himself before he could say something he shouldn't. "Elena may have committed a mistake but doesn't mean that I'll have to demonize her till my last breath."
Silence filled the room once again as they took a sip and nearly burned themself.
"We're still friends, right?", asked Genjo.
"Of course we are. Why would we not be?"
They finally made up. It only took silence and them spending their time alone.
Someone unlocked the front door and stepped inside. It was Marin. A little birdie told her about the great news and she rushed back home as soon as possible.
"A little birdie told me that you made up. Is that true?"
"So you arranged this?!", asked Genjo. Rouge and Lerone followed right after Marin.
"No," yelled Rouge. "We arranged this!"
"Yeah... We weren't exactly the nicest people to Elena so we have to apologize to her in some shape or form. There's no way that would ever happen without you guys making up," said Lerone.
After a week of silence between Daisy and Genjo, Marin, Lerone, and Rouge arranged for a day where they would be away and have them deal with their issues by forcing them to be alone together.
"I guess it was effective!", Marin bragged with joy. Her plan worked out. Now she only has to get them to visit Elena. Before that she'd have to deal with Lerone's and Rouge's indiffirence to the way the others behave.
"Next up is Lerone and Rouge. If you don't stop being indifferent, I'll cripple the both of you and force you to be more active," Marin said. She threatened the both of them with a smile. It took them off guard as Marin would never say things like these and was quite reserved when it came to dealing with pre-established problems in this house.
Heading upstairs, Genjo followed right after as Lerone and Rouge were awestruck. Daisy snickered as she drank her tea.
Mass migrations... they've been quite prevalent these past few weeks. With the promise of a dream, a greater future, all those that have witnessed the horrors of the world of magic have decided to migrate. Walking, swimming, running for days... Many don't make it onto their Path of Salvation. Many turn into Demons as they succumb to despair. Others kill themselves as they can't carry on any longer. Many abuse drugs to get by never overdosing. Others give up midway and settle down elsewhere. Within their eyes, somewhere in New York lies a world of salvation. Duties of upholding the status quo, the duty of fighting Demons, and the duty of going on dangerous missions to retrieve relics and artifacts cease there.
However, that pilgrimage isn't easy. With state authorities made aware of these migrations, they have to fight to get through. Those migrating out of Japan have to swim to Russia or South Korea. With ships patrolling these seas trying to forbid these migrations, they somehow have to make it one night or remain out of view when the sun is out as they never know if a Dream Catcher with the ability to spot anything a kilometer away, could be on those ships. As soon as they touch land, they have to face the risks of being killed. Rookies are taken away, locked up, tortured to determine their max potential, and killed when they don't meet the potential desired. Others are sent back and told that their loved ones will suffer if they attempt to flee again. Many veterans with little to no growth in the past few years are strung up and made to gain the trust of migrants and snitch on them to buy their freedom.
The biggest issue at hand is the fact that these people migrating are prone to turning into Demons. If they do not turn, their worries and despair spreads and latches onto the common populace they're surrounded by. If they do turn, it's always mid capture meaning that more lives are lost capturing what could be one person.
Nyx and Loriel were no different. They fled and made it to Germany. Loriel came from Turkey while Nyx originated from Greece. Since their paths allign, they formed a group with seven others. The seven strangers they were travelling with passed. Some turned into Demons. Some killed themself. Some disappeared one night. They fear that getting further may be impossible as a recent invention, Magica Scantron, scans the amount of magic within others. It is hard to spot as it merely consists of a bracelet that gives the one using it an electric shock as they walk by people with high levels of magic. Used in trains, busses, planes, and border controls, Nyx and Loriel are considering to give up. Their travel plan is to head to France and then to the UK. From the UK they'll be smuggled onto a ship to North America. But they could also move towards Iceland. Then they could swim towards Greenland. By foot they'll reach North America in a couple of months.
However, even within this cruel world remains a glimmer of hope. Very few remain sceptical of the way Dream Catchers are seen as. Out of these few, only a small group believes that they are good people. Some of them had been saved by one when a Demon tried to kill them. Some saw them save people within disasters such as widespread fires or floods. Some saw them defend people from muggers and sometimes even going as far as walking them home to keep them safe. Though they often were mocked and silenced for their opinions, it still showed that there is hope. People can understand them and maybe even coexist like they unknowingly did since the dawn of time.
Claw, one lone organisation, has been trying to paint Dream Catchers in a new light. Sabotage, vandalization, and assassinations is now a part of everday life for the members of this organisation. Despite all that they press on in hopes of making people understand their cause and what they're fighting for. Some rumors say that this is only the first stage of their plan and that they intend to go further.
Aqua, a renowned Dream Catcher known for her strictness and her strong sense of duty, has come back to her hometown. Originating from the same town as Alpha, she has every right to return after spending some time overseas as an aid. Within her absence, the entirety of the Bavarian Council had been replaced. The people she knew had died and she was the only one that remained from the one before Raven. As such, were she to declare that she wants to lead it again, she could do so. For now, she simply intends to visit the people she's known for so long.
"I wasn't expecting you to be so banged up. What happened to you, Hellfire?", asked Aqua rather annoyed. She had no interest in these injuries of his because she believed that he's fine because he's strong. Always clinging onto that belief, she left Germany so that he can lead in her stead and was disappointed to find out that he hadn't become a part of the Council. With Lamia taking over for Phantom, there's two seats open for as long as Elena remains in a coma and for as long as Sylvia remains absent.
"It's nothing, master! You know how precautious they can be when it comes to dark magic!", Hellfire said completely ignoring the pain he's in right now.
"I knew it!", she said as she patted him. "You're strong unlike everyone else. You always prevail when everyone else gives up. You're reliable. I knew that this was nothing."
Her praise felt good but he knew what would follow right after.
"But," she said. "how did you lose track of The Coordinator?"
"I'm sure you've read the reports and heard of The Collector. It's not that he's strong. He's just annoying to deal with with that nearly infinite dark magic pool and him always disappearing through a crack in space whenever he had the chance to do so," Hellfire claimed. Lying through his teeth to not lose Aqua's approval, he hoped that she would continue patting him as he had missed that.
However, she lifted her hand and stopped patting him. "Be more careful next time. It seems that these foes will pop up more frequently as time goes on. This year is especially rough and that likely goes for the rest of the decade. Don't embolden them by letting them escape, okay?"
Hellfire nodded with that fake smile of his. The dynamic was incredibly damaging to the both of them but neither knew that. They continued within that dark alleyway of theirs.
Standing in front of one long and wide pier, Alpha was puzzled as to how he got here. Behind him were a dozen train tracks leading into each other and diverging once again. The sunrise slightly blinded him and was accompanied by a strange fog shrouded in mystery. On top of that pier were several hundred people. Only seeing their silhouettes he could only guess how old they were from their height and assume their genders. Carrying suitcases, bags, or backpacks, they moved on. They walked towards wherever the pier ended. Most seemed rather young. Few were the size of children under the age of ten. Many were teens. Very few actually were adults.
"I want to be saved so that I'll never have to starve again," said one young boy walking around only in shorts way too small for him and no belongings. Barefoot he kept walking down the pier, towards his “savior”.
"I need to be saved before I can succomb to this illness," said a young girl. She was well dressed and needed a cane to get by on her own.
"I have to be saved before anyone else needs me," said a young woman dragging her suitcase.
"I have to be saved before the people that need rescuing are in danger," said a young man carrying a backpack. Still, he was rather skinny and in torn clothes that were about to fall apart.
"I need to be saved, before he can touch me again," said a teen girl dragging along her broken leg. With a torn shirt and a loose skirt, Alpha wonders what had happened to her.
"I want to be saved to stop fighting," said a teenage boy. He was well dressed and accompanied by a girl his age.
Several more people chimed up about their wants and needs. Their journey seems endless yet hopeful as going back would get them nowhere.
Alpha fell out of his bed and woke up.
"A dream," he thought while in a daze. He now knew what dream Loriel and Nyx were talking about. They were chasing after that dream and somehow gained the intuition to head to New York as did Hyperion as soon as he woke up. A strange feeling overcame him as he thought of Elena.
