《Path of Salvation》Chapter 025: Encounter

"Should I really fight them?", asked “The Coordinator”. He disliked that name and would rather stick to Darkness or Don. Talking to a trusted friend of his, he was unsure of what he may have to do.
"It's either you or them," his trusted friend told him. "They're going to kill you if you don't kill them."
"Hm...? And how am I supposed to trust you, Mister Ascendant? You won't even tell me your name!", Don said somewhat irritated. Hooded and within a cloak that's supposed to conceal scars of his, he tries to attract attention towards him. Standing within a ghost village, he lamented what had occurred here.
"If I had acted sooner, maybe none of them would have died."
"What could you have done. You're just a child. You can't take the blame for something others had done wrong." The Ascendant was trying to keep his mind off things that had occurred in life... things he cannot be blamed... things that he can be blamed for...
"I wonder when they're going to show up. It's just three of them. Can't I convince them to just talk?", Don asked. His curiosity and child-like innocence were a part of him. Though he may look like a teen, he's a child at heart.
"No way. They're human. They wouldn't understand you or me."
Don tried denying that claim but had nothing to say. While it is true that he's led Demons throughout the world... While there definitely were some accidents... he felt for Demons and wanted what was best for them. Some had to be put down while others were living within their own domains trying to get the best out of their miserable life.
"I'll try talking to them! I swear I'll-"
"They've already laced this place with traps," said The Ascendant. "I'm sorry, but from the get-go... They never intended to talk with you."
Silence. Don had nothing to see except to express his sadness.
"Humanity is selfish, vile, unforgiving, wasteful, incredibly destructive, and full of lies and deceit. They never would talk to our kind."
Don had enough and deemed it necessary to unleash wrath. He didn't hate people. He never could. But now that they've chosen to try to kill him once again, he had to retaliate as a means to survive. Otherwise, it's torture or death like all the times he tried to talk.
"Maybe next time..."
Sitting on top of a church, he looked around him. The small village of what was once a thousand residents was submerged in fog. It was a sad sight as it had once been a wonderful community. Even though villages like these were notorious for chasing him even after Don had shown up battered and bruised, he couldn't hate them.
Trying to get off the roof, he was trapped within a golden cube. The cube let loose massive amounts of light magic, something Don is quite weak to, however, shielded by dark magic stemming from The Ascendant, he already knows how to make it out of there. Taking off his cloak, he only wears worn-down shorts.
"I'll grant you just five of these. Use them wisely."
Five black crosses came into being. All a meter long, flat, and pitch-black, they prove themself as useful spiky weapons. One of them shapes itself into a ball. The ball then splits itself into several smaller to transform into spikes that would be shot at each corner.
On the outside, Raven and Sylvia are approaching the captured foe intending to execute him right then and there. Before they could react, the cube shatters and explodes.

"Do you seriously just intend to...", he said, however, Sylvia already was on her way to stab him with a kusarigama, a chained sickle with a weight attached to the other end. Simply grabbing the chain, he believes to have taken no damage until spikes dug themself into his hands. Extending into his arms, Sylvia intended to tear him to shreds. The dark crosses cut off his arms and go for Daisy. A dark mist emerges from his arms and reattaches his arms. Positioning the crosses behind him, he takes flight rising into the air and flying away.
Above the clouds, he expected no way for them to strike him down. Using that easy escape route, he intended to just leave as his initial plan of talking it out went up in flames.
"Why won't they just listen? It's always been like this! I don't get it!", Dominik thought.
Something was below him approaching at rapid speed. Several ravens were approaching and swarmed him in the process.
"There's no way they'll leave you alone. You'll have to fight." The Ascendant was clear in his ways. Killing to protect oneself seems to be the only way out for Don.
"I won't kill them. I'm trying not to kill anyone. As long as kind people like the guy I've met at the station are out there, I'm not killing anyone."
Determined in his ways, he intends to take them out but also make sure that they stay alive and don't turn into Demons. With the immeasurable dark magic within him and his immunity to it, he could turn anyone into a Demon. However, it goes against what he believes.
"It's Hyperion, wasn't it? How's he doing?", Don asked.
"His Demon friend has left him just last evening. I don't think he's aware of it yet and he probably won't take it well. But he won't turn into a Demon," said The Ascendant.
Don smiled as he'd been observing Hyperion for as long as the day he was offered kindness.
Flying back down, he watched Daisy and Sylvia dodge his nosedive attack. With a trap within the church, he's bound by golden chains. However, he had already dealt with such chains before and knew that they were incredibly frail. Breaking and disintegrating the moment he applies any sort of force on them, he, with ease flings several Devil Seeds at them. Two of these had a special form: One a neon blue triangular pyramid and the other a neon green square pyramid.
"Code! Collector! The usual!", Don yelled at these special Devil Seeds, each of which revealed a glowing, purple, and spherical core. While the core of the square pyramid grew in size and reshaped itself into a young teen with pitch-black skin, the core of the triangular pyramid vanished with lightning. Code had vanished while Collector was by his side.
Collector was a peculiar Demon. A white trenchcoat, a black tophat with a violet bow, cargo pants, a purple bullseye on each black glove, two black steel-plated boots, a white mask hiding his face, and a violet book he always carried with him. The thing that was outstanding about him, was the ability to talk to anyone he pleased to and an identity behind his mannerisms and speech.
"Oh? Asking for my aid once again?", asked Collector knowing exactly what Don wants. "Well, as long as I get to add something to my collection, I'm fine with that." Snickering quietly, he awaited orders.
"Is that Demon talking?!", Daisy asked in shock.
"Come on. Don't lose your mind over this! You should know better than that!", Sylvia shouted at Daisy.

The Devil Seeds flung at them flew back to Don and were absorbed by several pages of the Collectors book. Right after that Demons came into being out of thin air while a barrier was erected on top of Germany. To limit damage done to their surroundings, they use the barrier to downscale all damage done within and allow oversight over their enemies.
"Head for Colmar! Lay waste to that town!", Collector instructed with a cheerful voice. "I give you the Authority to shed copies of yourself, Hydra! I'll give you incredible resistance to magic and regeneration, Fenghuang! Dizhen, dig beneath the earth and release great tremors! Lastly, Ko! Just do whatever you want!"
A massive ghostly black mamba that should crush anything underneath its weight silently slithered through the Black Forest. A flaming bird elegantly flapped its wings and brought fires to its surroundings. A creature they hadn't seen before was digging benath them causing tremors as it goes. A faceless child with pigtails in a tutu multiplied and flew off wherever it could go. The Collector fled with the Demons going for the french town called Colmar.
"Sylvia! Take out Ko or whatever that child is called and aid dasiy after! Daisy, pursue the Demons laying waste to the forest! I'll deal with him myself!", Raven ordered. As soon as they heard his orders, Sylvia created armor out of black liquid and dashed after her target while Daisy created a massive wave that's supposed to carry her and suffocate the fires.
"Quite the leader. I thou-" Don was cut short. Raven approached with just a thin longsword. Slashing away at Don's throat, his target lost a small amount of blood as his wound was stitched up right after by the darkness surrounding him.
Don took off his coat while creating a coat made out of dark mist. Fearing nothing, he left his chest bare. Summoning a scythe, he made quick work of Ravens blade by swinging his scythe to fling it out of his hands.
"I don't intend to-" Once again he was cut short. This time, Raven used a polearm trying to pierce Don's chest. Summoning weapons by using the same kind of dark mist as his opponents, there'd be no end to his attacks. As a master of none but user of many weapons, he is quite formidable when it comes to his versatility in combat.
Blocking the attack simply by holding the staff of the scythe right in front of his chest, he realizes Raven is rather weak and only has speed going for him. Starting to get frustrated with Raven and his inability to just listen to what he had to say, Don tried taking one of Ravens arms after moving out of the polearm's way. Holding onto the polearm with his superior strength, he tried attacking but was met with a greatsword being lodged into his throat.
With no way to remove the greatsword, Raven let go and jumped on top of another building as he summoned a rifle. Shooting through Don's skull and firing another shot into a window behind Don, he triggered another trap. Causing massive explosions that blew several houses to smithereens, he did a lot of damage to his target.
Within the flames was a Don lying down as the bullet lodged into his skull was pulled out by his own hands. Barely breaching his skull, he was fully functional. Even if it had pierced through him, the dark magic within his body would have blocked the attack as it enveloped his brain. The greatsword had to be manually removed by his very own hands.
"Hey. I'm just-" Once again he was struck again by another bullet. Somehow even stronger than the last shot, it pierced through his heart rendering the dark magic absolutely useless. However, it also shattered Raven's arm. Going right through Don and his spine, it blew a wall a few dozen meters to smithereens.
Quickly, Raven engaged in close combat with a broken arm that took forever to heal. Before Don could heal, as he lied on the ground, Raven stabbed a spear into the hole in his back. With a halberd, Raven was intending to behead Don.
Removing both the spear and the halberd now lodged into the back of his neck with the mist around him, Don made Raven back off out of caution.
"I guess I'll have to use Calamity's AE-system. I was hoping I could just take him out with the rifle but he wouldn't be classified as such a massive threat if he was going to go down with just one shot!"
Don got back up and stared at Raven with that sad look of his. However Raven showed no sympathy as he was about to strike once again.
Meanwhile, Sylvia has gathered all of the copies of Ko that had fled the scene. Alone, they just are five relatively weak Demons that stood no chance against her. Calling them Ko-1 to Ko-5, she showed no fear nor hesitation against slaying them. However, they proved to be quite tricky.
Ko-1 was immune to all physical power and would just return it to Sylvia. Every time Sylvia struck it with her greatsword, it was her greatsword that would receive damage instead of her.
Ko-2 was rather weak in Sylvias eyes. Guessing that it was immune to dark magic, she scoffed as this was a rather simple thing most Demons come close to. Though it is possible to overwhelm them with massive amounts of dark magic, it's nearly impossible to do so as the average Dream Catcher.
Ko-3 had immunity to natural power and simply wouldn't react to all the attempts of piercing her target. Freezing whatever tried to pierce her with natural power as the main force, she was annoying but managable.
Ko-4 simply stripped objects of their spiritual power or caused mayhem to them. With the hardening through spiritual power simply becoming brittle or erraticly shapeshifting destroying whatever it was connected to, Sylvia feared this one the most as it could tear apart her very spirit if given the chance to do so.
Ko-5 had mysterious properties and would often phase in and out of existence.
Sylvia knew that this was supposed to keep her away from her allies. Split apart they had to deal with their own weaknesses while together their different abilities would make up for them. However, things would take a turn for the worse as Ko-1 to Ko-5 fused into one. Ko-0, the fusion of the copies, had the abilities of its copies amplified.
Though it would be a waste going all out now, Sylvia believes that she can recover just in time to help her comrades. Taking issue with her weakness, she utilized the expertise she has in both natural and spiritual power despite being a massive brute when it comes to battle. Mostly using a greatsword, she was once associated with the "Ladies of War". Now she refuses to utlize all of her strength only using brute force even when in life or death situations.
"I guess I'll just have to force my way through!", she though as she threw her greatsword as if it was a spear. Though she didn't want to, she had to use the functions of the tailor-made sword. Glowing in gold, it burned through Ko before the greatsword could impact with the Demon. Pure light magic vaporized the Demon leaving behind a massive area of destruction.
"What a pain. And here I had been saving it up for a while. At least it was only at 10% output," Sylvia lamented. Though it looked like a simple and ridiculously massive greatsword, it had lots of secret functions to make up for weaknesses Sylvia once had.
As Sylvia waited for her sword to cool off, she felt massive tremors that would throw the average person off their feet. The earth started cracking below her swallowing her as a means to keep her occupied. Just in time, she could go for her scorching weapon and burn herself just enough to breach skin.
As Sylvia is struggling with a Demon she cannot see, Daisy is trying to take care of the one setting fire to a large amount of the forest. With the skies as clear as can be, it would be impossible to chase after the bird and put out the fires and deal with Hydra. Knowing that she only could deal with one at the time, she prioritized Hydra. A massive sea serpent that could crush a village under its mass was her priority as fires can be put out.
Slithering towards its goal, it wouldn't take long for Hydra to reach its destination. As Daisy pursuits it with a miniature tornado carrying her, she slashes away at it with thin blades of air faster than the fastest jet out there. Splitting it in half, she believes to have taken it down. However, several black mambas emerge slythering away from the scene as the Demon stitched itself back up. As its minions slithered away, they caused death to all life they came into contact with. As soon as they came in contact with something, everything would turn into an ashen gray that would spread and caused things to simply shatter as if they were glass.
Hydra started slithering away again while Daisy was distracted by its minions. Though they caused minimal damage and were quite slow, they could kill many people if allowed to roam free. Allowing them to spread, they'd be hard to track down later and cause many causalities. Maybe they could be promoted to C-Class Demons if left on their own.
Deciding to go for the minions, she took them out in a flash as they were just about strong enough to tear a tree apart and not much faster than the average black mamba.
Quickly, she slashed Hydra once again. The cycle began anew as it was taken out by just one attack. Torn in two. Release its minions. Heal and regenerate. Head for Colmar once again. Repeating this process a couple of times, she looked like a fool incapable of stopping the Demon.
"Damn it!", she thought. "It's just incredibly repetitive and trying to keep me occupied!" The Phoenix had taken off and incinerated the path before them. The Demon yet to be seen had snuck away and is dealing with Sylvia. Ko was defeated. The Coordinator is dealing with Raven.
It was incredibly suspicious. Baden Wuerttembergs Dream Catchers were absent while Bavarias top 5 were fighting within two states. Daisy wanted to dismiss it but it felt as if they were set up for failure. Putting that aside for now, she intended to question Raven, Elena and Sylvia later as she hadn't taken a big part in planning the battle against the things they were facing now.
"What am I thinking?", she thought. "I should take care of these Demons first and question them later."
Picking up pace, she went for a more erratic and straightforward approach.
"If splitting you in half doesn't help and taking care of your minions doesn't do anything, then I'll just reprocess you into minced meat until you're exhausted!"
Getting right to it, she seemingly created an invisible sphere of air spinning rapidly and closing in on them. Hydra stops in its tracks as Daisy allows to sphere to close in on it. Stopping the sphere from getting smaller, she watched as its minions emerged and tried to flee. Though it was in vain, they kept trying to flee as the sphere started getting smaller again. Reduced it to nothing, Daisy didn't care about the Devil Seed that could have been lost within. She kept advancing and followed the trail of fire left behind by Phoenix.
So far, while Daisy and Sylvia had slain two Demons, Raven was struggling to keep his enemy down. Not listening to a word he spouts, not hesitating for a second, he goes out of his way to keep him occupied as long as possible. However, unlike Dream Catchers like Hyperion, his motivation to fight doesn't stem from the need to care for people and the general populace. His motivation doesn't stem from some sort of noble goal. His goal doesn't lie in defeating The Coordinator.

I plan to turn this into a long lasting series, and it would really mean a whole lot to me. :) ----- Having succumb to amnesia, Galvin one day appears in the Grand Forest east of the capital kingdom Lamora. For the next two months, he lives a perfectly carefree yet boring life until one fateful day changed everything. Encountering all sorts of characters and dealing with all sorts of shenanigans, Galvin begins to experience visions of what appears to be the future. With this newfound power in a world full of magic, yet plagued with war, discrimination, and brutality, will Galvin be able to change fate…or die trying? ----- Do you like stories where the protagonist doesn't start out strong and is deeply character driven (with a LOT of inner monologues)? A story that has its fair share of comedic and dark moments? Well then you've come to the right place! However, if you're looking for LitRPG mechanics, then unfortunately, this story doesn't contain too many of them. The dynamics of the story will be based on real life physics and mechanics (with a bit of magic of course!) Also, I delve deeply into a lot of disturbing topics, so readers do be warned. However, if any of this sounds interesting to you, then please come by and give my story a read. ----- Expect releases as soon as possible (which is like 4 - 10 days). Just know that I'm writing this story as it progresses, so a lot of first drafts are to be expected. :D
