《Path of Salvation》Chapter 016: Third Layer

Diving into another layer of mysteries they find themself in a room filled with inscriptions that Elena couldn't make sense of. It wasn't a room, but more of a corridor with several star signs some of which she hadn't seen before. It seems as if Phantom may be the only one that could potentially solve the puzzle. Before she could come into contact with anything inscribed on the walls, Phantom pulls her by the end and determines whose Authority it is. "The Authority of Stars... Apparently, he was a mortal being that descended to godhood through sheer willpower. Not only did he immortalize the stars, but also did he break the limits of the universe. Lightspeed wasn't unreachable anymore, peeking into other dimensions was possible, not having to worry about stars turning into black holes and many more things came with his ascension. This is what Ultimata truly are, lawmakers that can bring chaos or bring hope and guide us to a greater future. After battling his predecessor to the death, he fell ill and died. Many lives were lost but his legend remained. The civilizations left behind memorials that were lost to time. Touching the inscriptions he left within the stars is disrespectful so don't touch them unless you know how his puzzles work." Phantom held the Ultimatum of Stars to great respect and could never speak ill of the one he praises like a god. "How come you know that much?", Elena asked. "I'll tell you if you can reveal to me what happened to Abottsford. Why did you take such rash actions today?" She hesitated but her curiosity got the better of her. "I can't tell you everything but Abottsford was an experiment on something they called the AoV. Orphans that lost their parents and had nowhere to go to were easy victims and lab rats they could use and reproduce. As such, my friend was detained with me. To escape that lab which lied somewhere deep underground working like the way Base Delta does, she used the Authority and the Key of Strength I was supposed to use which cost her legs. Incompatible with the Authority, the new friends we found were the only ones keeping her sane. One day she just snapped and let lose several Demons not from this world from rifts we've seen around the greatswords in this city. She wanted to end it all. Those that had abandoned her, those that had betrayed her trust, those that had punished her and those that just stood by and watched she wanted to keep around but with a lack of control over the beasts all of them died using the Key of Strength to stop the beasts and even then it wasn't stopped. The fifth and sixth-ranked, those that look over the US, had to step in and resolve the crisis." "I see. It's unfortunate but you can't just kill politicians. There are others that think alike and-", Phantom said but had Elena pull him away from the wall. "I'm sorry but part of that was a lie. I had to see how they would react," she said as she drilled a hole into the wall. Her lance latched onto something she could pull out which turned out to be an arm. The corridor that separated the third and fourth layer was no more as a dark figure sprinted off with the lack of an arm. "I'm sorry for using you like this but the mission is far more important than our emotions!". The skies turned red and a storm arose within the remains of Munich. Snow fell and buildings were soaring high above them. Some of them were fragmented into many little pieces while others were stretched into longer and thinner versions of themself almost as if they were soft dough easily manipulated by the touch of others. "It's definitely the Authority of Stars! The four-pronged stars obviously belonged to him. A sentient star that only wants to wipe us out is the worst combination!" Out of a hole within the clouds, several black greatswords emerged and were falling from the heavens. Just in time, they dodge the greatsword that emerged directly above them. Within that short timeframe, the Authority of Sentience had escaped. She seems to have vanished within the center of the city, the center of this madness. Empty cars were on the streets stacked on top of each other while in perfect condition until something arose within the center of this city. Hail fell for a few seconds and the storm subsided. Finally, the outside world was somewhat visible, even if distorted. The sun was out and a cloud was keeping them within the shade. "Are they getting weaker?", Phantom wondered. Elena still was on guard and prepared for anything that may come. The buildings slowly are stretching, thinning, or condensing to their original size. Slowly but surely they lowered to the ground and placed themself into their rightful positions. All the cars that were piled up on each other slowly ascended and floated to where they belonged to. The greatswords all faded away and vanished from their sight. As things returned to normal, they decided to head into an alley. Out of nowhere, people popped into existence and were going on about their normal day. Cars were driving down the streets. Kids were running around playing tag and people were staring at them as if they weren't missing a few seconds ago. To evade their gaze they jumped onto a building and kept themself out of the view of the common people.

After a few minutes of evading the people, they rested on top of a roof to discuss what had just happened. "Why are they back?", Elena asked. "I can't make sense of it either but this likely is an illusion." They agreed that they should keep their guard up even if they seem odd. "We'll have to head to the center to truly know what is going on," Elena stated. As she spoke about what may lie within the center, someone spoke to her. "Why are you so dissatisfied? Why not go back and live a normal life?" They turned around to look at the girl that had spoken to her. Without hesitating, he shot her. Her long, straight, and gray hair reached her ankles. As a child that was a head smaller than them, she was covered in gray. Her cute and gray princess dress with frills was soaked was within her blood as she fell to the ground. A hole was burned into her forehead but she fell with a smile and wide-open eyes. "Come on now... We can negotiate, can't we?" Again, they turned around to witness her approaching them again. This time, however, it wasn't a futuristic gun, but a futuristic machine gun that drilled holes into her. As soon as he was done firing, she exploded into a purple puddle of goo. To his right, she appeared again. Dark clouds were circling around his axis and came closer A storm arose with a sudden explosion demolishing a major part of the city. "This is your fault. If you hadn't lost control none of this would have happened," she stated as chaos befell the city. The fires spread far and wide as people screamed in terror. The city morphed into another far more futuristic one as the sound of chains falling made itself present. "If you hadn't been so incompetent, Walpurgis wouldn't have ended so many civilizations and she would finally be free. It's all your fault!" Voices spoke to him expressing all kinds of emotions. Anger, sorrow, regret, fear, disgust, pity, and much more was within the tones they spoke. Phantom started hyperventilating and crouched down as he covered his ears with his hands. Screams, cries, explosions, falling buildings, and much more were starting to plague him. Distorted voices were laughing at him and coming closer. Looking down at the top of the building he was standing on, he saw faces screaming and calling for help. Even with his eyes closed, he could see these people like he was looking directly at them. "Phantom, are you okay?", Elena asked as she shook him out of his delusions. "Huh?" "You were crouching down and covering your ears... What's wrong?", she said concerned. The greatswords, the floating buildings, and the red sky were back. There were no cars that were piled up on each other. As soon as he fully snapped back into reality, his head ached. "It's just a headache and a few delusions. It's nothing too bad." She still held onto his arm as she was shaking him just a few seconds ago but he pulled away. She just looked at him worried and wanted reassurance. The supposedly strong front she had just before they dove into the layer they're currently in. Even Elena is being affected by the mind games of the Authority of Sentience where her front just fades away from time to time. "It's clear that we shouldn't spend too much time in here and get to the center to defeat the great powers that also are this monstrosity," she said. Looking at him she realizes he is wandering off. Suddenly, he had the urge to just head towards the next layer. Barely catching up to him, he dove into the next layer. Following right after, she was blinded by bright light and was struggling to breathe as everything around her seemed to be burning down. Phantom was nowhere to be seen. In front of her was a mountain she recognized. Turning around, she looked at the beast that demolished this region. A gigantic, raging, and golden lion was charging an attack aimed directly at the mountain she was looking away from. With its mouth wide open, a ball of light was glowing within it. Aiming at the mountain behind her, it fired a beam that burned straight through the mountain. Quickly, she jumped into the way of the beam flew towards the beast. "These delusions don't work on me!", she yelled before being swallowed by the beast. Within it, she was met with another bright flash. After reaquiring her sight she was about to plunge into the ocean in the middle of nowhere with Prometheia, as an emotionless Z that only intends to turn promising people into Dream Catchers, by her side. She just proposed a contract as they fell. Knowing that this is another illusion, she aimed at her friend and shot spikes made out of threads at her. Prometheia, upon being shot, exploded and plunged Elena into another world she was familiar with. Standing on the colorful roots of a massive tree that was rooted into a massive floating island in space, she faced a humanoid monster that was concentrating energy into a ball to create white spheres containing that energy. The first sphere she could dodge left an explosion behind her damaging the roots of the divine tree. Punching the second one, she was engulfed in a vortex of flames. This time she is within what seems to be a fiery pit constantly trying to burn her. With her resistance to heat and burning, she only sweats a little and struggles to get out. The ground she's walking on is gooey and burning hot. With a punch into the wall of this pit, she bursts through into another space. This time it is not like the others. They're not part of her memories but seem to be what could be a planet in space. Standing on a glass ball with a dim core, she's finally facing the Authority of Sentience, or at least her silhouette. "You seem somewhat resilient to attacks that affect the mind. I guess your past hardened you a lot more than I expected," she stated. Elena scoffed at her and announced, "I don't care. I'll definitely hunt you down and make sure you pay for the death of all these people!" "I wasn't the one that did it. I am following orders but I didn't do it. That's all I'm allowed to say." Strong winds carried her away like dust and ashes. Space faded away as she awakened back within Munich but Phantom is nowhere to be found. The buildings were ravaged by some being that was looking for more people. Doors were torn out of their rightful buildings, walls were torn down through brute strength, several walls were slashed at with an object or being sharp and strong enough to cut through a wall and black goo was splattered all over the walls. The black stains distort space and seem to lead into a void. The greatswords within other parts of this city weren't scattered all over the place but instead formed a barrier around the first layer of the city. It separates the innermost layer from the second layer potentially being the last hurdle they need to get over to discover the mysteries of this anomaly. Suddenly, something crashed right in front of Elena. Dust and rubble arose as her opponent made herself present. "I'm sorry but since you won't break I'll have to kill you instead. It's an order from her!"

Re: (Union//Incarnation)
Two years ago, a meteor fell and decimated the southeastern lands of Gaia, turning them into wastelands constantly shrouded in white fog. None of those who saw the blazing calamity with their own eyes lived to tell the tale, and those who attempted to venture in never came back. Since then, towers, caverns, and ruins have appeared and disappeared without a pattern. Those who were brave enough to venture in were rewarded with a partner capable of defying the natural laws as humanity knows it. People started to call them ‘Incarnation’, and before long, more and more Incarnation were gathered and sold as commodity, especially after a billionaire has sponsored a fighting tournament offering cash prizes to those possessing the strongest Incarnation, spurring the greedy and desperate to hunt for the fabled creatures at the cost of their lives. Claire Saphira wanted none of that. She simply wished for a life where she could live without worry of her own survival. As she ran from the debt collectors for the umpteenth time, she was swallowed by an errant tower, where she saw a frail, pale-skinned girl with ashen hair hung by chains. It was a chance, a chance to participate in the tournament and live without worrying about survival. Yet, something nagged in the back of her mind. Why did she look so familiar? Planned release schedule: One chapter every day for Mon-Fri, and a break on Sat-Sun. The release will slow down at some point, but most likely won't go under 3 chapters a week.

The 48 Laws of Power in Practice
Discover how power works in the world, through true stories and real-world applications. In the game of power, we all play - as either conscious or unconscious players. So we can't afford not to know the rules. The ** chapters have the most outrageous content. In each chapter, I will be summarizing one of the laws and how it can be applied to current events and pop culture. Some of you have told me the stories are what you enjoy the most. They are real, raw, and anonymous so that others may learn from my mistakes. There will be cringe-worthy stories of self-sabotage, but perhaps also some unlikely triumphs. Some of the details are changed to protect the innocent, (or perhaps guilty). "The 48 Laws of Power" by Robert Greene illustrates truths about power, through philosophy and lessons from three thousand years of history, which still hold true today. There is a lot to learn from each chapter. I encourage you to go on this journey with me by reflecting on how each law might apply to you. Together, may we learn from the past and take control of the future.
