《Path of Salvation》Chapter 014: Threats

August 19th, 11:59 am, Germany's federal chancellor was holding a speech to address the phenomenon that is affecting Munich as they speak. Millions were watching to find out what is going on within the city of Munich. With confidence, she announced that this problem would be taken care of in a few days and falsely reassured the people that Munich is fine. However, Elena wouldn't allow such lies. Not only were they trying to hide what is going on, but also would they claim the victory, even if Dream Catchers risk their lives to save those who still have life in them. In the midst of it, she and Phantom stopped the broadcast and allowed Elena to speak her mind. Suddenly, she was visible on TV for everyone to watch. Phantom, with his gadget, could broadcast anything without being interrupted or tracked down by the government. It's how he avoided ever be spotted by anyone while each Dream Catcher is spotted at least once within their lifetime. Few remain unseen only through affecting spacetime and the purest versions of the five elements. Elena herself hadn't been spotted for the past two years and is finally making herself known. "It's been such a long time since I've talked to the officials. How are you doing everyone?", she said to spite those that had done her wrong. The sinners knew exactly what she means with this phrase and are shivering as they may be on her hitlist. "Let's start with whatever your chancellor wanted to lie about: First off, I go by the name Railgun and watch over Bavaria as a Dream Catcher, those that handle anomalies and take care of external and extraterrestrial threats that should have hit the earth. For number two, this anomaly was created by the incompetence of the state. I would like to apologize for their and our inaction which resulted in the deaths of many. Third, I'll slaughter those that were responsible for the subjugation of Dream Catchers and allowed the suffering of the common people. That is all I wanted to say. Goodbye, chancellors, presidents, and whatever else the leaders of each nation call themself." Her short announcement was surprisingly short despite the number of things she could have said. The second after she was done with her threat, the chancellor fell and stopped moving. In the midst of her speech, she was knocked out by a force never seen before. Chaos ensued as security rushed towards her to help her. Since it wasn't held in front of a crowd, people barely had the time to react as to what happened. The cameras were shut off as people were left to wonder what had happened. News stations, wanting to benefit from her sudden death, starting reporting on the issue despite not knowing anything at all. Exactly at noon, this attack was pulled but this was just the start. Several more politicians fell ill with the majority being from Canada. Each nation lost at least one well-known politician within her wake. The cause was easily identified because she was the sole survivor of ANDE. With the mention of Dream Catchers, people are bound to theorize what is going on. Conspiracy theories were already starting to spread throughout the internet. Since the surprise broadcast was done, Elena can talk with Phantom. "I know this is a bit extreme, but this was necessary to stop them from interfering when we're fighting with the anomaly. Soldiers likely are guarding the entire thing and since I've told them where we'll enter they'll have some kind of secret weapon they'll test on us." Phantom silently agreed as he took his mask off revealing his face. "I guess... But why go so far? You don't seem like the type of person to want these kinds of things," he commented. With a grin, she concealed how she really felt. "It's not that bad! Anyone could do it and confrontation was inevitable, to begin with, especially with the way they've tortured innocent children just to invent something new. When I lost my parents on a flight to the States, they took advantage of me being a sole survivor. Prometheia busted me out by giving me power. If it weren't for her, there may never be a person within this era to lift the sword of rebellion. I'm used to losing people already so not much is lost but I want to make sure no one has to go done the path I do, especially not Hyperion." "You're fond of these rookies, aren't you?", Phantom asked. His right violet eye and his left gray eye gazed into her soul. Their similar background is why they seem to get along. "I am," she said. "They remind me of my old friends, especially Franky and Alpha." "Then what do you plan on doing with the Demon Hyperion is carrying?" She had to take her time to think of an appropriate answer. After a short pause, she can state what she will do with Ban. "I'm more worried about the Demon, to be honest. It never showed any hostility towards anyone except for Franky and is growing weaker because of his contractor's magic. Maybe those two are the key to reverting Demons into what they once were. Prometheia as well... she may hold a key to this mystery even she isn't aware of. Maybe she's an Ultimatum, one of the creators of Authorities and Ultima Keys." "I see. If that's the case then I'll gladly work with you and reveal everything I know as soon as we beat the anomaly." She nodded silently as a response. It does seem to fill her with happiness to get another reliable ally or even friend.

Moving within a metal box, that is fueled by her magic to keep moving forward, they finally reach their destination as the box comes to a sudden halt. Breaking it apart, both of them realized that they are far weaker than before as if they were under the effect of a strong barrier. They couldn't access their magic, their natural and physical power was severely weakened and they couldn't coat their body in spiritual power. "Can you take care of this?" Phantom wondered. "Sure thing. This might get a little rough." Without warning, they started firing and attempted to kill both of them. None of the bullets hit as they either vanished or were moved out of the way. They bounced off what seemed to be an invisible wall or were swallowed by the very same wall. "So you have the ability to access X?" "Of course. I wouldn't tell them where we'll enter if it weren't for this trump card." In the blink of an eye, she appeared behind them spiting them as she shot one of them blowing his brains out. "You can surrender or die. If one of you opens fire again, I'll kill all of-" Another shot but not from Elena. With a deep breath in and a sigh, she returned the fire. The same bullets that were intended for her, hit them instead as reality was starting to bend under her might. Bullets curved instead of flying in a straight line while accelerating or deaccelerating depending on which side they're aiming at. Before killing them, she tried to disarm them placing their firearms above their heads floating and about to rain hell down on them. Gesturing one of them to approach her and do as she commands. Handing him a gun, she grins. "You have the option to fire at me and get every single one of you killed or withdraw and survive. Don't talk. Just toss away the gun if you're willing to leave." Her ultimatum was supposed to get them to back off but she had to kill them as he was foolish enough to fire despite standing no chance. If it were nay regular Dream Catcher with average knowledge concerning the fundamental elements. Within the blink of an eye, everyone turned into a pool of blood. Phantom and Elena were the only ones still standing. "Don't worry. They're not dead. I've just turned them into strings," she claimed. The blood slowly started to turn yellow just like the strings, bandages, and ribbons Elena summons within a battle. Their bodies started to revert to normal which is why they were forced to keep moving before anyone else could catch up or start fighting again. The guns were destroyed but the people remained. The false reality that occupied the borders of Munich, started to bend as Elena got closer. Stepping in even she started to distort and take on a warped shape of herself with darker colors until she completely vanished. Phantom vanished as well as if no one had ever entered this city.

Meanwhile, Raven, Sylvia, and Daisy are about to clash with the Coordinator. Standing in front of Lake Constance, the three of them were awaiting the arrival of the Coordinator. Taking advantage of the fact that people weren't around and within their homes because of the weird and sudden speech on TV that would answer questions within protected walls, he flew across the lake at incredible speed. A cloud of darkness was moving in with hostility indicating that he indeed would take the bait. Raven, ready to trap them all within his barrier, attempted to erect one. Surprisingly, he was unable to and was forced to take the Coordinator head-on potentially killing people. With a gadget ready he turned into a crow and flew towards their target. Sylvia created a greatsword she could surf on midair to close the gap as well while Daisy just used a whirlwind to take part in the battle.

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)

Hero Demon Synthesis
Classes; Skills; Spells. In a fantasy world that is ruled by the Gods, a person's life relies heavily on these three items. What can a Warrior do by herself? Well, it depends on the situation really. Could a single Warrior really take on a Dragon alone? Well, what if they were in a Party? A bad Party goes off to die. A good one though can change the world. This is the story of Paige, a seemingly simple Warrior, who lives a seemingly normal life. Author's Notes: Updates are every three days unless noted otherwise. On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.

Oublivant
Oublivants: a category of dungeons characterised by the antithesis of life, necrosis. "Dungons as a whole tend towards the lethal side when it comes to exploring them; however, an oublivant actively seeks out destruction on a grand scale. No greater example of their deep hatred for life exists than the very first discovery of an oublivant. It was a massive dungeon spanning miles in all directions. It continuously expanded along the surface, so fast you could see it, and left nothing but a scorched, withered wasteland in its wake. Wherever the oublivant resides, nothing but the undead exist, as all living life has been eradicated. Why it is, exactly, the oublivant seem so against life so as to break the passive rule dungeons have is unknown. What is known, however, is that they're a threat that, upon discovery, is to be immediately eliminated." - Archomagus Addiom Onero, Court of VascilNote: This is my first story on royal road. It'd be nice if you were nice... nicely.
