《Path of Salvation》Chapter 005: King

"How'd you even become a Dream Catcher? And when?", asked Alpha. Franky doesn't seem like the type of person that specifically fights for the good of others. He felt awful for thinking the way he is but dismissed these feelings for now.
"Just a month prior to you becoming one. Just like you, I was recruited. Though Hellfire was the first Dream Catcher I came in contact with, it was Elena that ordered that I be made into a Dream Catcher," he stated. Unlike Alpha, he was recruited outside of battle and took a couple of days to accept that offer. However, he'd only accept the offer under one special condition: a promise to not involve his loved ones. That promise was broken the day Alpha became Hyperion.
"I honestly didn't want you to become a Dream Catcher… I wanted you to stay weak and clueless instead of risk your life fighting dangerous monsters that may tear you to shreds…"
He was rather sad and seemed upset by the thought of Alpha risking his life.
"Well… Now you can protect me while I'm strong, right?", asked Alpha. "I can defend myself from Demons and you can defend me whenever I can't take it!"
Franky hadn't seen it from that angle. He never thought about Alpha now being somewhat capable of protecting himself in battle for at least long enough until he or someone else can arrive. Still, there was something Franky desperately wanted to tell Alpha.
Loudly and authoritatively, he stated, "Never leave this city as Hyperion! Travelling as Alpha is fine but there are clear lines when it comes to territory. Some are lenient and allow you to continue being a Dream Catcher as long as you fess up a fee. Some don't take it as well and are willing to maim you! You better not pull any stunts like flying around your divine key like you did when heading towards Harpocrates!"
Alpha nodded rather intimidated by that friend of his going off on him.
"I'll keep that in mind only if you bring me Devil Seeds you don't need, okay?"
Though he was hesitant, Franky accepted the offer. Since Devil Seeds are a way to clear their bodies of excessive dark magic, something that can happen to any human but is a lot more prevalent in Dream Catchers, Franky is afraid of what may happen if Alpha is left with those Devil Seeds. He's simply worried about the after-effects of excessive dark magic.
But, even with all that in mind, Franky handed Alpha the seven Devil Seeds he had on him.
"Just promise that you won't do anything crazy with them, okay?", Franky demanded.
Prometheia jumped in out of nowhere announcing, "A Demon is in the area. You only need to hold out for a few minutes. Hellfire is on his way."
With Elena occupied with something urgent, Prometheia acted more akin to what her species usually acts like. It was strange but wasn't touched upon further.
Revelation, a notorious Demon known for being rather evasive, was the master of this Domain. Somehow, it had captured 7735 people in Germany over night. Preying on such a massive amount of people within one night is unheard of. Even the strongest Demons the world has faced thus far didn't prey on so many people at once. It was a rather strange but also long accepted occurence that would come and go every 25 years. Christa, Germany's Sovereign of Dream Catchers, was the only one to put an effort in defeating this thing but hadn't encountered it yet.

The three of them were sitting within a bullet train running on a path of pure gold somewhere among the clouds. A pearly gate was up ahead awaiting new prey. The train slowed down as it approached the gates towards the main event. In front of the gate stood two guards. Though they were massive, they looked perfectly human. These two women were tan, twice as tall as the average woman, and casually dressed. Shorts and shirts was all they needed to make quick work of the three of them.
"We should head back…", said Prometheia.
"What? But why? Hellfire is coming to help us too, right?", asked Alpha. He couldn't allow so many people to be killed just because of his own safety.
Franky put a hand on his shoulder and shook his head. "After hearing what Prometheia said… Do you seriously think we're at a level where the two of us could defend ourselves, let alone defeat something that appears every generation and seems to have been around since the dawn of time?"
Alpha had to accept that this Demon was far above their level and therefore unbeatable. If Christa, Germany's strongest Dream Catcher can't track it down with her elite team of Dream Catchers then what exactly can they do. People far stronger than Elena and Hellfire faced this thing and either disappeared or died. None of them stand a chance and likely would perish to its weakest minions, the ones standing guard right now.
Shattering one of the windows, Franky was the first of the three to jump out. Alpha readied his divine key as he regretfully has to leave these thousands of people behind. As such, they took off with haste.
The two guards chased after them as they act according to Revelation's will. Running even faster than a bullet train, it wouldn't take long for the two of them to catch up. Summoning metal rods as long as two meters, they had projectiles that could be thrown at the three of them. Their first shot was thrown from a distance of five kilometers grazing Alpha as the three of them took off just in time.
His balance suffered as a result and nearly threw the three of them off.
"Prometheia, how do we leave this domain?", he inquired.
"Heading the way back or breaking through by hitting its upper or lower limit. Following the tracks likely is the best simply because we know that they have an end likely not as far away as the sky!", she replied.
Franky simply wrapped his arms around Alpha's waist holding on for dear life.
"Franky, can you deflect their spears while I'm steering this thing?"
Franky nodded and let himself fall just enough to hold onto Alpha's leg. He'd remain Alpha's shield for as long as necessary and maybe even use his body as a meat shield. The next attack finally caught up to them and was meant for the arm holding onto Alpha's leg.
Unsheathing his longsword, Franky swiftly deflected the attack. Directly after that, the guards threw two spears. Just barely did Franky deflect these two. If there were one more guard, they'd surely would have taken off that arm of his.
The fact that they can infuse their spears with natural power was something that Franky did not expect. Throwing just one charged spear, he believed that this was no threat he couldn't deal with only to realise that its glow meant something else. Climbing back up onto the divine key, he nearly shook both him and Alpha off. He grabbed Prometheia squeezing her between him and Alpha. Right after he hugged Alpha from behind trying to shield the two of them.

Theia, the divine key, reacted just in time. However, its shield was penetrated by sheer force. The spear impacted with Franky and buried itself into his lower back. Then followed a massive explosion that threw the three of them off Theia.
"Hey! Franky!", Alpha screamed worried about his friend.
He was deafened by the explosion. Lying on top of the train tracks, he slowly got up as he was recovering from the effects of the attack. Though he received first-degree-burns, his first priority lied in the well-being of Franky and Prometheia.
Prometheia somehow was perfectly fine as she lied within the arms of Franky. With her small body, his arms were enough to fully shield her.
"Franky!", he yelled as Alpha stepped closer.
He stumbled backwards as he took a closer look at his friend. Franky's lower half had been blown off and lied several dozen meters away from his upper half. Alpha, by the time he could shed a tear, had recovered from his burns. Even clothing regrew and fully covered him once again.
"I'm fine!", Franky grunted. "Damn! It hurts!"
Both Alpha and Prometheia were shocked as they weren't expecting him to talk back. Prometheia ran out of his arms and jump into the arms of Alpha as the two of them were awestruck by his ability to survive.
Within a matter of seconds, his lower half fully regenerated. It looked as if he hadn't been hit to begin with. He looked more pissed than surprised as if that wasn't the first time he had been split in half.
"We battle monsters, some of which are eldritch abominations, and you somehow are surprised by something like this?", asked Franky.
Alpha nodded.
"Well… Let's counterattack then!"
Alpha shook his head and decided to punch the path beneath them. His divine key flew right back to them and turned back into the size of a key. He punched the path beneath their feet and released his magic. This time it was pure light magic, something that his divine key can block. The rings came into play and protected Franky and Prometheia. Digging into the world below, Alpha breached into another layer of the domain of Revelation.
Franky didn't question Alpha's plan even if it may lead nowhere.
With the three of them falling, they had time to inspect what was below. Franky looked up trying to spot the two guards that were chasing after them. Luckily, the whole had been patched up by the master of this domain. The sky had changed to an apocalyptic red. Below was a scorched land of hills and just one massive and ashen bonsai tree. Within it was an eye aiming at something… someone.
"Look!", said Alpha. "Maybe that person can help!"
The person below them was fighting the tree. The ivory eyelids of the strange eye contrasted with the black eyeball within. The pupil was red just like the veins within that eyeball.
A Dream Catcher was dodging several of its attacks. Fireballs and firebeams were launched at her every moment spent within this domain. The woman below was wielding a japanese smoking pipe that let out rainbow steam. Wearing a purple shirt on top of a black long-sleeve jersey and white shorts on top of black tights, she seems to be a simple person when it comes to styling.
They eye caught wind of Hyperion and the others and fired a fireball at the three of them. The stranger chased after the fireball by jumping into the air. Blocking the attack by launching the fireball right back at the eye, she took out the being that served under Revelation.
The domain shattered allowing the four of them to land in an alley. Alpha and Franky transformed back into their civilian forms. So did the person that had saved them. Her civilian form was tomboyish just like her Dream Catcher form. An undercut with curtains made while rocking shorts and a shirt…
Franky checked his phone to judge where exactly they were. After quick usage of google maps, he concluded that the four of them are in Frankfurt.
"Hey!", shouted their savior. "Where are you from?! Pay up if you're gonna hunt in my territory!"
Just prior to this battle, the two of them were about to part ways with the moon looming above them. Now they're several hundred kilometers away from home.
"Where are we exactly?", asked Alpha.
"Huh? You must be rookies, huh? Getting lost and overstepping won't spare you from the fees we have here. Maybe you'd prefer if I busted that leg of yours instead."
"We were dealing with Revelation and somehow ended up here instead of our hometown… We're really sorry for this-"
Franky shoved Alpha aside and shoved his phone into her face.
"Is that really your territory? Shouldn't we be asking you for a fee?!", he yelled.
She didn't know what she should say. None of them were within their own territory. None of them had the right to collect fees. However, she fessed up some cash she had on hand.
"King. And you?"
"Christa…"
Franky transformed and grabbed Alpha. Jumping away, he left Christa behind before she could catch on. It was a ballsy yet smart move that could get them in trouble.
"Transform, Alpha…"
Alpha turned into Hyperion and flew the three of them back home.
"We were lucky she happened to be stupid! Next time, leave the talking to me if you're just gonna be nice!", said Franky. Rather infuriated by Alpha's naivety, he understandably lashed out.
"I'm sorry… But we shouldn't have taken her money," he replied.
Franky simply squeezed the cash he had gotten from Christa into Alpha's hands and stomped off into the distance while calling someone to get him.
Alpha let go of Prometheia and bid her farewell as he started walking away from the city center towards the train station.
Franky grabbed him by his arm and stated, "I'm not letting you go home on your own. You've missed your train and I'm definitely not letting you go home on your own!"
"Thank you."
Silently awaiting their ride home, a car finally rolled up to the two of them.
"Took you forever!", bellowed Franky.
"Maybe you shouldn't be out here this late!", replied Ben. "Oh hey Alpha. I'll drive you back home."
Franky lived with Ben, a friend who is more akin to a big brother. Though the house they were living in was under the name of Franky's parents, Ben was the one taking care of Franky while his parents were away.
"So… You wanna stay at our place today or?"
"I-"
"He's staying!"
Franky didn't ask whether or not those abusive parents Alpha lives with were okay with it but he just felt like it was the right thing to do.
"But I-"
"I'm sure it will be fine," said Ben. "You're seventeen. The worst thing they can do is call the cops. Just give them a call and tell them that you're staying with us for a study session or something like that."
He appreciated the warmth and kindness both Ben and Franky were showcasing and agreed to their offer. Alpha would have ran off anyway were it not for Elena changing his life.
