《Path of Salvation》Chapter 001: Start Line

“Another one of those boring days… another one of these stupid lessons… another wasted hour… Why am I bound to stupid family members that barely treasure my time with them? If it weren´t for her I would be long gone. I just want..." Another one of his battles with depression. With these getting incredibly intense in summer, he often wishes he could just drift off into his fantasy world.
While in class, he can't stand others chatting with each other. It's something he can't attain simply because he has no friends he can openly chat with. With distress visible on his face, his classmate sitting right next to him tries to intervene.
"Are you okay?", his classmate asked.
Going back to the usual apathetic facade he's trying to display, he simply stares at his friend. "I'm fine, Franky."
At just 1.73 meters, black hair, crystalline blue eyes, he often seems likely a gloomy person. Though he does well in tests and is pretty average at sports, he still struggles with self-worth.
His friend however... Franky always displays confidence, intelligence, and, strength. Being the handsome popular kid that everyone loves, Alpha is regarded as a thorn in his side.
"Why should such a loner hang out with him?"
"Wasn't he a fatty not long ago?"
"Oh, he's here too."
Blonde, 1.78 tall, lean, and confident all sorts of people want to hang out with him despite knowing how busy he can be. He's just about to turn 16, and still seems to grow more handsome and perfect each year. Playing all sorts of instruments, he gets bonus points from everyone he's met.
However, even Sire Perfect has his set of flaws.
After class, with Alpha and Franky remaining as one of them bickers the others' ears off, Franky seems different.
"They're so full of shit," Franky said. "Always reliant on others, incapable of thinking for themself, and believing that they're hot shit just because they're part of a clique... How pretentious can one be?"
"Wouldn't you fall under that, too?", Alpha replied.
"Under what?"
"Being pretentious..."
Franky pouted as he grabbed his bag and started heading towards the door. Leaving Alpha behind, he closes the door behind him.
Enjoying the peace, Alpha decides to read the book he had brought with him. "Finally. His bickering truly is-"
"What are you waiting for?! Come on!", Franky yelled as he flung the door open.
With a sigh, Alpha followed and did as his friend demanded. Though he doesn't like to admit it, Though he still has his facade on, he enjoys having Franky around and wouldn't know what to do with his life if it weren't for him.
Just eight days away from graduating, he soon can live his own life. Intending to just run away from home with all his legal documents, he laments that he'll have to leave Franky behind. Not being able to bear the life he lives now, anything else seems like a dream. That old, german school that bore him to death, the family that treated him like trash, and the classmates that could bully him... He could leave it all behind. However, his little sisters and his best friend cannot be left behind. "Wouldn't that be unfair to them?", he often pondered when making up his escape plan.

But this is the day everything changes. July 24th, 2015, his life would change to what he hopes to be grandeur.
"Can you tell me the story of that key again?", Franky would ask quite often. Wearing a strange golden key beneath his shirt, Alpha had powers others weren't aware of. The past month, Franky has been asking more and more questions about it.
Obtaining that key sometime five years ago, he had noticed its presence the day a classmate pushed him in front of a truck. That day, it dragged him by the neck into the air and allowed him to land rather gently.
While walking towards a café, a couple of people from their school waved at them, or rather, at Franky to come over. Their smiles slightly changed as Alpha came with Franky.
"Oh? Still out here on your way home?", said Male Student 1.
"And with Alpha at that?", said Female Student 1. It was clear that his presence was a nuisance to them.
"I was just about to leave. Bye." And with that, Alpha leaves Franky behind slightly frustrated with his inability to talk to them.
"I have to leave too. See ya'll on Monday!", Franky said as he hurried after Alpha.
"What a shame," said Female Student 2.
"Till Monday," said Male Student 2.
Franky barely made it in time. Alpha nearly ran off into a crowd he could disappear in but was dragged out by Franky.
"Come on, wait for me! I'll buy you your favorite milkshake!", he said trying to make it up to Alpha who obviously disliked being around that group of people.
"Fine."
Not long after Franky bought him a milkshake, they had to part ways as they lived far from each other. However, before they could part, Alpha handed his friend a coffee.
"You wear makeup to cover up your eye bags, right? You'll need this."
Alpha left without saying another word, leaving his friend stunned by his awareness. It's one of the few times he genuinely shows his caring side. One of the few times there's light within those often dead eyes of his.
Heading for the train station, he makes it just in time to throw the leftovers of his milkshake away and take a seat within the train that would take him home. As he walked in, a hooded gloomy individual brushes up on him and makes his way out. The strange individual dropped something on his way out. A weird spherical crystal.
"Hey, you dropped this," Alpha stammered.
Simply ripping it out of his hands, the guy presumably within his age range tries to leave. Worried as to what is going on with him, he couldn't help but pry.
"Are you okay?"
The boy left. He looked angered but also frustrated but there was nothing that Alpha could do. Noticing strange scars and tattoos, it seemed as if his body had been burned. Alpha was about to reach out once again but held himself back as he had no right to act as a stranger.
Entering the train, it was surprisingly empty. Surprisingly, despite the busy hour, only he would enter this train. As soon as he entered, he could feel himself getting dizzy. Though he'd only need less than ten minutes to arrive at his destination, he sat down and decided to rest his eyes.

"Why am I so tired all of a sudden?", he thought as he drifted off to sleep.
Something was tugging at his leg when he came to it but vanished as soon as he opened his eyes. It was strange. Somehow the air was cooling him off with the sun being comforting as it caressed his skin. Going from the blazing summer heat that would make him sweat buckets to comforting warmth on skin and a nice breeze.
"Huh?", he thought as he looked around. Only a dirt road, a seemingly endless grass field, and a barn on top of the field. Turning around, he spotted a forest full of broadleaf and conifer trees. Not trusting the forest as it seemed dark and hard to traverse through with potentially no way out as soon as you're lost.
"Maybe there are people within that barn?", he thought.
Getting off the dirt road, he made his way towards the barn. Though he felt uneasy and confused as to how he ended up here, he had to get going as the sun was about to set.
"How'd I end up here? Was it the people in the barn?", he thought as he started hesitating. He had to go on or he'd have to spend the night outside. There was no room for alternatives except for following that dirt road.
"Something is wrong with that barn..." Stepping closer, he noticed the lack of noise. "Shouldn't farm animals be in there?", Alpha wondered.
"And it's starting to fall apart too! No one has been here for a while..." The wooden beams were cracked and through some unknown means. The paint was thin and had gone old. There was a hole within the ceiling.
Only a little bit further was a storm shelter hidden within the field and an old run-down wooden cottage.
"Maybe there's something in there that could tell me where I am or who lives here," he thought as he kept moving forward. However, a path of flowers leading over a hill caught his attention.
"Strange. Someone seems to tend to them. Maybe they're not far from here?"
Carefully walking next to the daisies, he finally made it up the hill. Up there, he spotted a wooden bench and a woman in a white dress. Her arms were resting in her lap as she awaited something. A yellow straw hat blocked her face. Though she had white skin that was also pale and flawless, she had long limbs that were somewhat jarring.
"Um," Alpha said as he approached her. "Do you live here?"
No reaction
"Are you okay?", he wondered as he stepped closer despite his body telling him not to.
No reaction
"Do you understand me?"
She quivered.
The field turned into a flower field of spider lilies while the sky turned red. Grass died and flowers turned gray. However, the spider lilies grew larger and larger and lost their original form. Turning into dandelion seeds with leaves as arms and dandelion seed filaments as spikes, they approached Alpha. The tall lady revealed what was beneath her straw hat, a bouquet of daisies as everything above her lower jaw.
"Can you walk?", Alpha asked while looking at the approaching and corrupted dandelion seeds. They still were transforming turning the filaments into parts thin limbs, eyes, and mouths could spawn from. Holding onto miniature scissors, they mutilated each other as they approach Alpha to do the same to him.
Grabbing the strange woman by her arm, he tried dragging her with him but had nowhere to go.
Before they could touch him, a gust of wind blew the monsters away as the key Alpha carried with him formed a dome. Its head was made of three rings: An inner ring, a middle ring connected to the inner ring by five rods, an outer ring connected to the middle ring by seven rods. As the inner ring detached itself, it enlarged and formed a light dome with Alpha in it. Responding to the immediate threat by keeping him safe, the key acted on its own.
Suddenly something pulled him into the air as the key returned to its original form.
"Looks like you got yourself into a lot of trouble. You're lucky to be alive!", someone said. It was a woman, a rather confident one at that.
Turns out threads were pulling at his leg and created a platform. The ribbons that followed pulled him up onto the platform. Behind him was the young woman that had dragged him to safety. Turning around he stared her down as this situation was surreal.
"I'm Railgun, but you can call me Elena," she said. With a puffy skirt in yellow, white angel sleeves, a white shirt with a cinnamon brown corset on top, a brunette beret, and chocolate brown steel-plated boots.
Jumping off the platform, ribbons sprouted from her sleeves with a few swift movements she shredded the woman and the monsters that threatened his life. Mist emerged from their remains and swallowed both her and Alpha up. After the mist had cleared, he escaped unscathed while standing on train tracks.
"Huh?"
As if it was a simple daydream, there was nothing that could prove he ever met that person, ever was dragged into a foreign world, ever met strange creatures that threatened his life...
"What about that woman?", he wondered. "Why'd Elena cut the woman up?"
Stepping off the tracks he realized he was not far from his stop. Time barely had passed within what seemed to be a while since he's been to the real world. Looking back at the tracks he saw a message made of ribbons.
"See you soon," the message said with a number right beneath. The ribbons slowly withered and vanished within the air.
"Huh?!"

The General Core {The Sphere}
The life cycle in the Sphere is on the brink of collapse because one of its elements, the Dungeons, have been exploited too much by the mortals. The group who created the Sphere already tried and failed with several modifications, because the original computer-like dungeon cores are too inflexible to handle changing approaches. So they try another type of solution – taking souls from other worlds to try to find a solution before the Sphere Cycle breaks down completely. The General was one of the best soldiers of his world, rising from the ranks of a private through Officer School to the highest command with honors. But when his world faced a zombie apocalypse, even that was not enough and he had to make the ultimate sacrifice. Now he is asked for a repeat performance of planning and controlling a dungeon and its spawns in a world that he knows nothing about… But what is the Sphere really? What is that [Xenotic conversion] he has to go through to even enter the Sphere? Something is really strange and he will have to find out what is going on to get to his promised rewards – whatever they will be. Being a soul in a dungeon core means that the General has better chances of finding hints to the truth about the sphere – a knowledge that would help him survive. And no, the sphere is NOT a virtual reality – the key to its secrets is the place where it was physically constructed (Author’s hint). This is a dungeon core story - but there are quite a number of things that I will do differently than common to those stories. 1) I will describe the floors when they are explored, NOT when they are build. Yes, that will mean it will take longer to get to those parts - but I think describing floors both when they are build and when they are explored destroys quite a lot of chances for suspense when adventurers enter the dungeon. After all, if you as the reader already know where the traps are, then you can't really be surprised when the surfacers encounter them. 2) How the world works (and how not) is an integral part of the story, so it will be explained I'm a world-builder first and the Sphere is NOT a regular world (as hinted in the synopsis above). Things will work differently than in your 08/15 default dungeon core stories - as the General and Gunny have already learned in the second arc (and more of that is already scheduled for the next weeks (July/Aug 2019) when the Sky Arrows continue to explore and evaluate that strange dungeon) If you don't like these premises, then I'm sure you'll find a lot of other Dungeon Core stories more to your liking. But if you are interested in more than "Dungeon builds another room and corridor in medieval earth" and are not afraid of a longer and slower story, then go on. I have two more stories in the Sphere, although they both have lower priority than this one: Shaleen the Wanderer (Adventurer, NSFW) (currently on hold after some chapters) Info's on the Sphere (System Docu and Short Stories) (irregular updates when needed) Current Status reports have been moved to a new discord server: https://discord.gg/EaHkXCfm9y
