《The Last Watcher》Diagnosis and Arrivals

Stepping aside, the Abyss Watcher gestured for Skyla to enter, to which she obliged with Xander following closely after. The pair silently scanned the hallway they had now entered, unsure of where exactly to go. The Abyss Watcher, seeing this, quickly pointed down the corridor that led to the room that Argent currently occupied.

Nodding, Skyla made her way towards the room, a slightly confused look on her face. That confused look quickly morphed into one of surprise and worry however as her eyes landed on the writhing Argent. After a few seconds of hesitation she knelt beside Kayla, shocking the distraught orphanage owner.

"I must say, you work quite fast Abyss Watcher." She remarked, to which the Abyss Watcher gave a simple thumbs up.

"What happened to her?" Xander asked as he also entered the room, nodding to the silver haired girl.

A blue glow shone from Skyla's hand which hovered above Argent's head. Her eyes widened in shock after a few seconds before a frown graced her face, "Are you this kid's caretaker?" She asked as she turned to face Kayla.

"Yes, I run this orphanage." Kayla said with a nod.

Skyla pursed her lips, her frown growing, "Do you know who their birth parents are?"

Confused, Kayla shook her head sadly, "Most of the kids here were abandoned at my doorstep so I have no idea about their lives before they came here, including her."

Skyla clicked her tongue as she stood up, stroking her chin in thought, "That is quite unfortunate." She said, an unreadable expression coming into her eyes, "From what can I tell, she appears to have awakened her mana. Not only that but she has an absurd amount of the stuff. That isn't why she's like this though." She explained.

Kayla tilted her head in confusion, "What is the reason then?" She pressed.

Skyla's frown grew, "From what I can tell from her mana signature she went through the normal awakening process of experiencing a strong emotion and lashing out. After that though, it's like something just...erased her mana signature. Usually the mana would die down after a few minutes or even hours in the most extreme cases though. For her however, she only lasted a few seconds. Something stopped her mana outburst and as a result that insane amount of mana never got the chance to leave and is now stuck inside her and currently wreaking havoc on her body."

A bead of sweat appeared on the Abyss Watcher's forehead.

"That wasn't the only thing I found however." She continued unexpectedly, "For some reason, she has a magical barrier placed upon her mind. The barrier seems to have been placed upon her soon after birth and is exceptionally powerful. So powerful that even I can't tell what it's hiding, and I'm a platinum rank!" She said, a hint of admiration for whoever made the barrier entering her voice, "One thing I can tell for certain however is that the barrier isn't the reason her magic was cut off. I suspect that whatever did was a spell or skill, however I can't say I've heard of such a thing."

"Kayla dabbed Argent's forehead with the cloth again, concern apparent over her face as she looked at Skyla, "Is there anything you can do to help her?" She said, a hint of desperation in her voice.

Skyla's lips pursed in thought as she looked down at Argent. Letting out a sigh she turned to Kayla once again, a serious expression on her face, "Honestly they never taught us about how to deal with this sort of situation at the academy. The best idea I got is forcefully removing her mana, however it will be extremely dangerous not only to her but to everything around her as well. It's either that or we wait and hope that she is strong enough to get her mana under control. If she isn't strong enough...she will die." Skyla explained, much to the dismay of Kayla, who's mouth opened in shock.

It was at that point that Argent spasmed rather violently, forcing Kayla to grab the small girl's arms to stop her from rolling off the bed. "How dangerous is the first option?" She said, never taking her eyes off of Argent.

"Forcing someone's mana out is essentially the same as a normal awakening, a violent burst of mana outwards, but it is much more aggressive than a natural one. While natural awakening is more controlled and directed, a forced one will not have any direction and will instead envelop everything around it. I have forced mana out of some people before though, so I know what I'm doing."

Kayla grit her teeth as an intense war was waged behind her eyes. Finally, after a few more seconds of consideration, she nodded to herself, turning to Skyla as she said, "Okay, we'll do it your way."

Myrrh hummed as she observed the bustling traffic around her, finding interest in the ways of these people. She could never understand how these people could be content with their lives. She had been adventuring for a couple of decades now, and while it had been a slow and arduous journey she could now proudly call herself an Adamantine adventurer. For these people though?

For some inexplicable reason they were happy with their lives, choosing to stay at home and live a comfortable life rather than always going out and looking for something better. She shook her head sadly at the mindset of these people. There was no ambition here. Sure most other cities had this sense of content, but there was always a feeling that the people were striving for something better.

Duskrock however, seemed like the kind of place that people would move to when they retire so that they could live out their lives in comfort. A small scowl came upon her face. Another concept she couldn't understand. Retirement. For her, it just seemed like the lazy person's way out of doing things. Her time in the army had taught her many things, but the one that stuck with her the most was that laziness was no better than death.

"Do we even know where the Duskrock Guild building is?" Yurem muttered at her side.

"Marcus has been here before so he should know." Myrrh replied before shooting a disappointed look at Marcus who had gone to the other side of the street and out of earshot, attempting to flirt with some blue haired girl with a strange sword at her side. Attempting being the key word as the blue girl seemed to be nonchalantly shooting down all his attempts.

Finally, the blue haired girl seemingly had enough of Marcus' harassments and walked off, leaving Marcus distraught as he made his way back to the now snickering dwarf and elf. "She didn't even care about my level." He mumbled.

Myrrh halted her snickering for a second in surprise before shrugging. Judging from the general lack of ambition this place had she wouldn't be surprised if they didn't care about levels all that much.

"Well, now that your doomed quest has finally ended can you tell us where we're going." Yurem said with a light chuckle.

"Yeah, yeah, follow me." Marcus grumbled before walking further into Duskrock.

Myrrh and Yurem quickly followed after him, however, Myrrh's observing gaze landed on quite the odd group. A mage and knight were leading the way, chatting with serious looks on their faces as they headed towards the city gates. Behind them, a man with armour and clothes that looked like they had been to hell and back followed, a veritably massive sword resting on his shoulder as though it were a cool stick he had just found. Beside the man was a woman with a limp, silver haired child being carried in her arms.

Her eyes narrowed as she looked at the girl. She could have sword she had seen that little girl somewhere before, yet she couldn't quite place where exactly. Shrugging as the group disappeared out of the gates she went back to observing the crowds.

It was probably nothing anyway.
