《Nephilim: Beyond Good and Evil》Chapter 31: Futile

Dark storm clouds formed around the skies blocking out a large portion of light around Eli and his friends. This was being caused by Emi who was able to manipulate the Earth's atmosphere to a degree.
Kodomo recently summoned a machine gun which he held loosely. Although the situation they were in was bad he didn't seem all that worried.
"I'll leave these small fries to you, Emi. Make quick work of them." Hillel mentioned.
"I plan to. My brother's came too far to see all of his hard work gone to waste."
"Emi. Think long and hard about this. Kazuki's not thinking about how this will effect us in the long term. The Angels numbers are far greater than our own. We can't take all of them on! Not even Kazuki would be able to." Eli said.
"Kazuki can do things beyond your wildest dreams. He's reached the status of godhood because he believes in what he's doing. He strongly believes that this is the best course of action for us Nephilim."
"What about what's best for the humans as well? Think of how what they'll have to go through. Think of the loss they'll endure."
"What about all of the loss we been through!? Like Shizuka here." Emi rubbed the little girl's back as she smiled down at her.
"Hmm?" Eli pondered.
"She lost her mother at a young age and has been surviving on her own ever since. What kind of creature could hunt down such an innocent girl? If it wasn't for my brother finding her I'm not sure if she'd be alive."
"I didn't know that. I know how hard it can be to survive in this world and that's why we all need to be on the same page. We can accomplish a lot more together."
"It's not going to work, Eli. Her mind's made up and so is ours. The only way to settle our differences is with brute strength." Kodomo said.
"I hate to agree with him, but he has a point." Akari added.
"Just try and stop me!" Emi yelled as thunder could be heard echoing across the land followed by flashes of lightning.
At the loud sound Shizuka flinched and covered her ears.
"Get back sweetie. Things are going to get rough here." Emi said as she pressed her hand against the girl's head.
"O-ok." Shizuka whispered as she moved from her side.
"Looks like we really have no choice..." Eli said.
Kodomo nodded and then decided to go in for a swift attack. He leapt to the side, pressing his finger against the trigger as he fired a volley of bullets toward Emi.
As the bullets closed in a fierce strike of lightning crashed directly in front of her, incinerating the bullets that attempted to harm her. Seeing this Kodomo shifted his weapon into something else.

Something more flashier like a rocket launcher; an rpg7 to be more exact. He held the equipment study as he took his time to lock onto her before he fired off a rocket. As it zipped through the air a bolt of lightning quickly rammed into it before it could reach Emi causing a fair size explosion.
Akari took to the skies, spreading her wings as she guided her palms together to form a small orb of light which emitted yellow sparks. When it was finishing charging she sent it hurling towards Emi causing it to explode as it rammed into the ground by her.
The energy it released knocked her back into a tree which creating a horrific sound. A normal person would have been injured by this, however Emi's body was heavily modified by her angelic heritage much like others of her race.
"I wasn't expecting you to land a hit on me. Looks like you guys are really against what Kazuki is doing. But as his sister I'm going to be there for my brother. We're going to avenge our mother and we're going to save our people!"
Emi stared up at the sky as she gave a slight smile. She was going to reveal the next hand of her arsenal. A dangerous ability that she could use thanks to her gift to manipulate the weather around her.
The skies opened up and the clouds became swollen with water and quickly released a downpour of water tainted with acid; acid rain. The droplets were colored green and as they fell around the area, crashing along Eli, Akari and Kodomo it caused a burning sensation.
"Holy crap! That burns!" Kodomo danced around as the effects of the rain started to eat at his skin.
Eli's body was more resilient, but at the amount and speed the rain was coming down it didn't matter. He clenched his teeth as he tried to hide the pain.
Akari who was also in a large amount of discomfort managed to form a large dome of light around the trhee, protecting them from the harshness of mother nature.
"Hnnn! I don't know how long this will last!" Akari said.
"Just do your best. When your shield breaks I'll charge in." Eli said.
"You'll get shocked by her lightning." Kodomo said.
"I know. I plan on that happening."
"You're crazy."
"Trust me."
"If you're so sure, Eli." Akari glanced over to Emi who was already planning her next move; a direct lightning strike above them which would shatter their defenses.
"Let me out now. We're already running out of options." Eli said.
"Ok. You'll be able to phase through it."
In a quick shot of motion, Eli ran ahead as fast as he could. Even if it wasn't fast enough he just had to believe in his crazy plan. Emi changed her target and the cloud released a bolt of lightning once he neared her.

The bolt of energy fired down, ramming directly into him and cracked the ground. The intensity of the lightning caused Eli to fall on his knees as it traveled through his body. His teeth gritted against each other and his body twitched violently.
"What a desperate move, Eli. I'm not the kind of person who enjoys seeing you suffer like this." Emi said.
Once Eli regained his movement he took a stand and clenched a fist as he swung it towards her. Her eyes narrowed as she saw his fist and she quickly grabbed onto it, stopping him completely.
"I know it was desperate. But, I have to be when fighting someone as strong as you." Eli said as he held out his free hand, forming his blade in hand.
Now that his blade was formed he quickly swung it, forcing her to retreat backward and release her grip from his fist. With his fist released he moved it to clench onto the hilt of his blade as he focused his energy into one swing, sending a divine slash through the air.
It pierced through the air and forced Emi to cross her arms against herself to guard against it. The crescent rammed into her so hard it felt like it cut through her body, however she was still in one piece.
Her body rolled along the ground, which ceased the downpour of rain. Eli adjusted his position, keeping his sweat hands firmly on his blade.
"Way to go Eli!" Akari shouted.
"It isn't over. She's a lot tougher than she looks.'
"I'm glad you noticed. You caught me by surprise there, Eli." Emi slowly took a stand, dusting her dress off as she stared at him before noticing someone else had emerge. She tilted her head back to see that it was...
"Thank you for keeping our guests entertained Emi. I'm here now so you don't have to stress anymore."
"Kazuki. It's no trouble at all, really!"
"I'm afraid you're too late. The first seal is broken and thus only three remain. It won't be long now."
"Listen to yourself. Is this what your mother would have wanted?" Eli asked.
"We won't ever know that because my mother is dead. You're stubborn as always, Eli. You can't enforce your beliefs onto another when you're weaker than that person. Allow me to demonstrate."
Kazuki began to approach while Eli stood strong. Neither man was backing down from their beliefs. Feeling a rush of energy, Eli charged and swung his blade down once he closed the distance.
Kazuki easily guarded against the attack with his blade in a smooth motion. Nobody didn't even see him draw the katana. There was no force between the blades, yet Eli felt strange as if something had gone wrong.
Then he noticed that he had been cut already, directly across the chest. His blood shot out like it had been pressurized and soon he kneeled over, hitting the ground with a loud thud.
"Why...?" Eli asked before his eyes closed.
Kodomo and Akari were in shock at how quickly their friend was brought down and didn't leave much hope for them. Kazuki looked down at his friend with a saddened expression before he set his sights on the other two.
"Your tricks won't get me, Kazuki. I'll keep you at a distance and force you to defend."
Kodomo shifted his rocket launcher into an assault rifle, firing off a series of quick bursts while keeping his distance. The wave of bullets raced toward Kazuki who defended precisely with his katana.
He swung the blade with great skill, stopping each bullet. To him it was more of a nuisance. Distance wasn't an issue for him. He stepped off to the side and quickly swung his blade through the air, causing a stream of light to glare from it.
This swift movement caused Kodomo to drop his gun onto the ground as he noticed that blood was racing down his throat. He wasn't able to talk with how deeply severed his wind pipe was and quickly passed out.
Akari was frightened with how powerful the strongest Nephilim really was. She never expected him to be able to defeat them with one single attack. She had to stand helplessly as Kodomo and Eli were taken out.
"Must you suffer the same fate?" Kazuki asked.
"…"
"I really don't want to have to harm you, but if you challenge me I'll have no choice."
"I'm not backing down now. My friends and I came here with the goal of stopping you and that's just what we'll do."
"I respect your wish Akari. Forgive me for this, I'll make it as painless as possible."
With another smooth motion Kazuki swung his blade and then guided it back into his case. At the sound of a click Akari felt pain across her lower abdomen, losing her strength she landed on the ground.
"Terios... where are you...?" She whispered before passing out.
"That's everyone. We should be getting a move on. Our work here is done." Kazuki said.

I just need the money to feed my little brother and sister. Their world is all I want to protect. The glory is for washing clean the stains that my father left on the family name. For my little siblings to suffer the same mockery and humiliation that I did is unacceptable! To protect the smiles of my only family, I would do anything. Yet, life knows to shit on you when things are just getting good. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, author-san here! This is my first story, set up in a fantasy world. It's based on the medieval and steam era where magic is rare and alchemy is used widely used as a weapon by people. There would be lots of action, adventure, betrayal, tragedy, romance, etc. ahead. Warnings-The mc is a bit mean and foul-mouthed, introvert. There would be strong language and lots of monologue narration by the MC. The stories are fast-paced and progressing faster. The chapters update would be unstable, depending on my daily life. You would get fast updates... or slow. Also, English isn't my first language. So don't expect perfect grammar :( P.S. - I would like some constructive critique and feedback! It fills my motivation gauge and increases that rate of chapter/week. (/>3

Just a Game
“A great corruption is spreading. The people cry out for a savior. For a hero. For YOU! Come join the fight, as the chosen of World Tree! Receive the blessings of the gods, battle fierce monsters, and become the hero you were meant to be, in Arcanum Online!” It was the cheesiest commercial Ethan had ever heard, but the gameplay was enough to draw him - and thousands of others - to the fantasy world of Lazuros. It’s the sort of place that can really draw you in - a huge open world, a deep character customization system, and a feature that makes time pass slower inside the game, extending your limited playtime! It was a little strange, though. As if it was a bit too realistic for a game of swords and sorcery. The NPC’s seemed almost alive, most quests didn’t reset and monsters respawned slowly. Still, for all it’s quirks, it was a good game! Just a game. And nothing more. …right?
