《Nephilim: Beyond Good and Evil》Chapter 11: Requiem For A Dream (4)

Terios desperately dragged his uncle's heavy body along the halls of the church. His chest was still partial cut open, but it was healing slowly. He didn't know how much longer he had before Ryo would unleash his ultimate technique. The damage would be catastrophic, but he knew just how far he was willing to go to finish this once and for all.
Gentle sighs came out from Terios' mouth as he startled to grow warry from dragging his uncle's body. He decided to lay him down before slapping his face a few times. They'd have a better chance of retreating if Uubji came to his senses.
"Uncle Uubji, wake up already! You're too heavy for me to carry like this."
Uubji groaned a bit and slowly started to revert back into his normal appearance. After a few more moderately hard slaps across the face he'd wake up and stare up at his nephew.
"How long was I out for?"
"That doesn't matter. Ryo's using 'that' technique and we have to hurry up and get out of here."
"Say no more, I'm up!"
Uubji quickly rose to his feet and dusted himself off. He took off into a sprint while Terios followed behind him. The two traveled through the narrow halls of the church until they came across the hole they made earlier.
"That's where we entered, let's use it to get out of here." Terios mentioned.
Uubji leapt out of the hole while Terios jumped right afterwards. The outside air had a different texture than the small enclosed space of the building. While being outside the tensions were lighter and the threat of Abner was almost nonexistent.
"Maybe he didn't get a chance to do it. You don't think something happened?"
"I don't know. We should wait some more. Going back in there will be a death trap." Uubji said.
The two stood silent as their eyes remained fixated on the place of worship. They wondered what was going on with the two of them in. They wondered if Ryo would be able to defeat Abner or would the Angel prove to be too much for him to handle?
Back inside the church, Ryo's throat was being held by an angered Angel with a sword forged from light being clenched tightly by him. His hand was becoming badly burned by the blade and the pain was making it hard for him to utter words. The only thing that came out from him were a few groans.
"How long do you think you can prolong your life? You're going to die, Ryo. There's no stopping that. Your family will be next and then this world will be cleansed from the darkness that you have created." Abner said.
Ryo clenched his teeth, revealing his fangs while tightening his grip along the blade. He couldn't handle the thought of him dying to someone as ignorant as Abner. Someone who was willing to wipe out an entire family due to who they were. Who they are shouldn't be defined by their race but by their actions. The Angel was only viewing the negative aspect of who they were.

Ryo gasped, Abner's grip was like a shark clenching its jaws onto its prey and never releasing it until it was sure that it was dead. He could feel his skin being mashed together and the feeling of the thick hand constricting his blood flow which made it feel like his head would pop like a balloon at any given moment. His arms soon lost their strength and began to dangle at the side.
Seeing this Abner simply smiled which was odd for a holy entity. Usually, an Angel would feel neutral about the death of another creature, but Abner's time on Earth must have been changing him. He was starting to become less godly as each passing day went by.
"Given up? That's sad. What about the so called family you wanted to protect? Was it all a lie? Well don't worry, you'll be reunited with all of them in Hell!"
With this declaration, Abner was preparing to finish Ryo off as quickly as possible. He broke his blade free from the weak grip of his foe and impaled it through his stomach. The blade easily forced its way through his flesh and caused his borrowed blood to seep through his wound. Smoke rose off from his skin as the blade sent a burning feeling throughout his entire body.
Ryo's body tightened at the feeling and his eyes sprouted little red veins which detailed the amount of stress his body was enduring. The pain was truly agonizing and if it was any other day he'd have given up for sure. But, today was different, he had too much on the line to just give up and die. His family was on the line the people whom he spent every second with. The people who he vowed to protect no matter what and against all odds.
With this burning desire to protect his loved ones he forced his body to move. He couldn't call it quits just yet. His teeth clenched down and his arms moved slowly, eventually wrapping itself around Abner with a death like grip. It was his final act and he was going to make sure he gave it everything he had.
"What are you doing? I'm curious to know how you'll beg your way out of this one."
Ryo smirked at his words and tightened his grip on the Angel. Soon the heat within the room would continue to increase. Abner could surely feel the intensity that Ryo's body was producing. The burning heat of a father's basic instinct to protect his offspring.
Abner tried to break free, but was unable to break free from Ryo's grasp. Now he was starting to panic as the heat was actually starting to bother his body. Soon flames would spiral around the two's bodies, trapping them together. There's no escaping now. Abner was trapped as Ryo wanted him to be.
"It won't work! Whatever you think you'll accomplish, it'll be a waste of time! You might aswell save your energy!" Abner shouted.

Ryo, however, wasn't listening. He concentrated on increasing his flames' power, increasing the heat of it. This was his last ditch effort to take down an Angel so he had to make sure it would kill him with one big explosion. That was the goal to stop Abner at this very moment.
The sound of flesh being ripped through filled the room as Abner dug his blade deeper into Ryo. The man cried out briefly, losing control temporarily of his flames from the sudden shock of pain. His body ignored it and kept its full attention on his flames which were spreading out through the entire room. The heat around them was hotter than a dessert and was actually absorbing any moisture that happened to be around.
Finally, it was complete. Ryo had reached his maximum capacity. A large explosion was seen from the roof of the building and filled the sky with searing flames. The building was immediately caught on fire shortly after. It was like seeing something from a video on church burning. The flames described Ryo's hatred for the church and its members. It was burning with his passion for destruction of anyone who attempted to lay a finger on his family.
Terios and Uubji were flabbergasted by the sudden show that they were observing. They knew Ryo had completed his supernova, but, even then they didn't know what the outcome of the match would be. How would this conclude everything? Was Ryo still alive or did he burst along with those flames? Was this enough to put Abner down for good?
"Uubji, does that mean..."
"It could mean anything. I like to keep a positive attitude so let's assume that it means Ryo did what he needed to do to win."
"Yeah, I hope he's ok."
"I've known your father for awhile. He's not one who knows how to stay dead for long. He's stubborn as hell, trust me."
"That sounds like him."
Wandering over towards them, Akemi regrouped with the two and kept his dark red eyes on the explosion of the church. He was out of the loop for awhile now and had just finished picking apart every last church member.
"Yo. What the hell did Ryo do in there?"
"He used his supernova to try and best Abner. Our attacks weren't harming him so he decided it'd be best to unleash everything he had." Terios answered his brother.
"Tch. This guy can't be that powerful. You guys are just weak."
"Come on, Akemi. The guy isn't a pushover. He knocked me out in one hit. I was even in my wolf form."
"You're a joke, Uubji. I'm surprised you even lasted that long."
"We should check on him. He may need us." Terios said with worry.
The three of them gazed back up at the roof where flames danced along a dying church. At this rate it'd consume everything within its path and bring it crumbling down. Anyone inside would be met with an unfortunate fate.
"It's too dangerous for us to even go inside. We'll burn up pretty fast." Uubji said.
"So we just stand here with our fingers crossed?" Terios asked.
"It's all we can do right now."
Inside the church Shiori was making sure everyone was leaving safely. He wanted to make sure that his sister and her friends were escorted out safely by the leftover members. Once they made it towards the entrance he had to see what the cause of all of this was.
"Honoka, keep everyone safe. I'm going back to check on Abner."
"Shiori... don't do anything stupid. Abner can handle himself."
"I'm not worried about Abner."
Shiori said before he ran back inside of the church, rushing through the slender halls which had places blocked off by heavy fires. He avoided the flames that would occasionally block his path until he came across the sacred door. The twin doors that came with the golden doorknobs. His hands touched the knobs and were instantly burned.
"Aggh! That's intense heat."
His hands quickly pulled away from the knobs and he stared at his palms which were completely red and badly burned. His healing process was taking its time aswell. Once the burning feel was mitigated, he drew his twin chokutos and swiftly sliced through the door.
Unfortunately, doing so released all of the heat that was contained in that room and it came rushing out on him. He covered himself, but he still felt burns covering his body. The pain was severe, but he kept moving forward until he found them.
Abner and Ryo; the aftermath. Ryo was lying on his back with a hole within his stomach, blood oozing out slowly. He didn't appear to be breathing and his body was still. Was he dead? Not to far from him was the white winged Angel who was on his knees. His body was badly burned and his wings had lost their feathers and were simply flesh. Abner was once a beautiful looking Angel, but now he was reduced to a grotesque figure.
Abner became a weeping Angel, crying out from the loss of his divine beauty. His skin was covered with severe third degree burns. His body slowly moved, even every sudden movement caused him a fair amount of pain. The one thing keeping him going was the anger he had for Ryo.
"You will pay for your sins!! I'm going to kill you!!"
Abner shouted as he gripped onto his blade and slowly made his way over to Ryo who was still unresponsive. His blade lifted into the air as he stood over the Vampire and eventually brought his blade down with all of the force he could muster, aiming to impale Ryo's heart.

What seems like an innocent game trope turns into a nightmare. This is a story of tragedy and the path to ultimate power. All in the hopes of an uncertain survival. _________ This fiction has NOT been abandoned. I made a haughty promise earlier to not worry because I'll continue this series, and with things lately, I've only proved myself a liar. Further promises dwindled, and I've lost trust. So many things have been going on recently that I've been booked. I will refrain from making any future guarantees or promises as my busy schedule will stay with me for a long long while. Time for me to actually spend on writing and revising won't appear until at the least November 19. I won't say expect that's when I'll restart, but you can expect expecting it to maybe happen. That's really shallow. But with everything going on, I've let my small reading base down. I apologize. I still stick by my statement though that I won't abandon this project. I plan to stick it to the end, no matter the delay. Most importantly, thank you everyone; readers who both like and dislike my work. I appreciate your time spent on my dumb imagination. Stay toasty my readers in this winter season. Cheers. UPDATE: We're back on track. Thank you for your patience. Any future readers, heyo! Glad you're here. UPDATE 2: So far it's been 21 days since I last uploaded a chapter. The best thing done for any fiction, no matter how good it is, is that it continues, and I have a bad history with that. 1 fiction on hiatus and already more delays with less than 20 chapters in this fiction. I've been very preoccupied with adding more things to do in my life rather than actually committing to any particular thing. That applies primarily to this. I cannot abandon this, as busy as my future looks and will look as I get busier and busier. Someday, I hope, I will be able to sit down and just write. just. write. But for now, I ask for patience. I suppose I'm glad this fiction hasn't picked up so that I don't disappoint too many people if any really. But I need to commit and it's going to happen sometime and sometime soon. No more flowery words. I'll see you later. UPDATE 3: It's very evident I won't be able to pick up this story for a while. With AP Testing, competitions, and other things I am busier than ever. But I must complete this fiction. I have too. Until next time. UPDATE 4: It is now the summer. I owe everyone an apology. Chances are, nobody's around to see this, and that is okay. I only blame myself for this sort of brokenness of a fiction, not that it is actually that bad but I am just exaggerating it for dramatic effect. But what's not exaggerated is the severity of my broken promise. I apologize for my naive claims about finishing a novel that I couldn't finish and that I didn't have the discipline to finish. Nor the skills, really, I was and am still an immature writer. What is to place now? I want to make it clear I understand this is my fault. I will man up to this. And I will accept any criticism. I understand I messed up. Reading Stephen King's On Writing made it clear to me that I need to do two things:Read lots. And write lots.I have done neither. If I don't have the time to read often, how do I expect to write? I need to become more experienced. I need to become a serious writer. So if I want to dream of continuing, I need to at least fulfill both requirements. I enjoy writing. I haven't written seriously outside of school in a while. I planned to write this summer and finish this. I made a lot of promises that I didn't keep.So there's that. I won't enact any self-pity, or be foolishly obsessed. What I did was wrong, and I must deal with it. I let down readers. And I apologize.I hope I can find forgiveness. This is a writer's sin.I won't promise I'll finish this. I intend to finish this, at some point, because writing is fun and I want to write. But how things are don't reflect that. Maybe I'll finish this at some point. Maybe I won't. I won't be naive to make that promise.I thank everyone who has read this if this is the end. If not, and hopefully not, I thank everyone who is to read future chapters. I thank everyone who allowed me to live in the miniscule little dream of mine as I passed my days. I thank everyone who cares enough to read this. Until next time, peace everyone. Thank you. You are all great readers and great people. I wish everyone the best in whatever reading/writing endeavors follow you henceforth.
