《Questline: Our Second Chance In Another World》Chapter 12: Assaulting the Goblin Camp

Cass and Felix managed to circle around to the other side of the cavern without any trouble, and position themselves behind the seven goblins in the center.
So far, they hadn't seen any enemies aside from those seven surrounding the campfire, but they were still on guard.
Cass notched an arrow, and Felix placed his right hand out in front of him. "What are you doing?" Cass whispered to Felix.
"Trust me! You fire an arrow, and I'll hit the campfire with my Hellfire. I might be able to create a fire bomb and damage all of the surrounding goblins." Felix explained.
Cass nodded in agreement, and sent out a power shot at the goblin leader which was followed by Felix's Hellfire.
The goblin leader's back was turned to them, so the two attacks went towards him without him every knowing they were coming. The power shot hit him square in the back while the Hellfire zipped past him hitting the campfire. Just like Felix predicted it created an explosion big enough the hit all seven of the goblins. Unfortunately, all though all of them were hurt they were still all standing.
Tenjin, Brandon, and Ava were waiting by the entrance they had all came in through for Cass's signal to start the attack. They heard the goblin leader scream out in pain, but to their surprised they saw a fireball hit the campfire and cause a big explosion as well that burned all the surrounding goblins.
Once they saw the signal, they charged the group of goblins who were surrounding the central fire. Ava was just a little bit faster than the other two wore, and managed to shoot off a vine whip at one of the goblins before the other two reached them.
Ava went for one on the left side of the fire, and managed to kill it in a single blow. The goblin had only 20/25 HP remaining after being burned, and her magic at this point was more then strong enough to take it out.
After her attack on the first goblin Tenjin went for the other two on the left. Between his base strength, and the increase he received from his hammer Tenjin had just enough strength to take them out in a single hit as now thanks to the damage they had taken earlier from Felix's attack.
It was the same for Brandon; he managed to take out two of the goblins, and Ava managed to strike the first one with her vine whip. Now they were just left with the goblin leader.
Felix and Cass watched as the rest of their party rushed the camp, but before they could join the fight they heard snarling and several footsteps coming from the cavern entrance behind them. Three goblins charged out at them, but they were able to quickly respond to them.
Two of them charged at Felix while Cass was left with the other.
Cillian, attack! Cass sent Cillian to make the first strike against the goblin and he managed to bite down on the goblin's arm dealing it 11 damage, but the goblin managed to hit Cillian with its club leaving Cillian with 18/30.
"Cillian!" Cass shouted while shooting off an arrow and killing the goblin. "Cillian return to me!" Cass ordered. This was the first time she had decided to use Cillian and he was easily lost almost half his HP. Thankfully, he received an HP boost last time Cass leveled up, but she didn't want to continue to risk using him.
Felix was busy with the other two goblins, and decided to activate his demonic arms. With the +5 strength they gave him, and the extended time limit he received after leveling up twice Felix had a huge tactical advantage now. He thought he'd easily be able to finish every goblin left in the camp, but unfortunately for the group more were on their way.

Brandon and Tenjin started closing in on the Goblin Leader. For the first time they were close enough to get a look at its stats.
Goblin Chief
Level 5
HP 131/150
Strength 17
Constitution 10
Agility 22
Stamina 13
Magic 10
MP 75
The Goblin Chief was holding a strange looking black cutlass with a hook at the tip and a serrated edge. They both went to strike it from each side each of them activating their abilities simultaneously.
The Goblin Chief managed to jump backwards out of the way just in time to avoid their attacks, and follow up by swinging its cutlass at Tenjin.
Tenjin didn't have time to block the strike, and felt the serrated edge of the cutlass tearing through his left arm. "Ahh crap! Be careful that's a powerful sword." His HP dropped to 50/61.
"You got it!" Brandon charged at the goblin leader with his shield in front of him intending to hit it with a shield bash, but it managed to step out of the way again and strike at Brandon. HP 49/61.
Fortunately for them the Goblin Chief moved right into Tenjin's striking range, and he managed to hit it with the hammer smash ability leaving it with 116/150 HP
Meanwhile Felix had managed to finish of the two goblins who charged him without taking any damage, but once they turned around to look at the fight with the goblin leader they spotted three more approaching from the path to the west that they the party had just come from.
"Ava look behind you." Felix shouted as he ran around the campfire to quickly get between her and the goblins.
Ava quickly turned around and lashed out at the goblin leading the charge with her vine whip, and Felix managed to finish it off with a Hellfire as he was running towards them.
Cass managed to hit one of the goblins with a power shot which was finished off by another vine whip from Ava.
Felix quickly intercepted the last one, and managed to punch it twice before it could attack. "Nice teamwork guys!" Felix shouted while giving them both a thumbs up.
Unfortunately, it wasn't over for them because more goblins began to approach from the south.
"Oh, you've got to be kidding me!" Felix shouted exacerbated by the new group of enemies.
"Don't worry about them Felix we can take them!" Cass responded. "Ava you just focus on helping those two."
"Got it!" Ava turned her attention back to Tenjin and Brandon who were having trouble with the Goblin Chief and began healing them with Nature's Gift.
Because Tenjin's hammer smash was an area of effect attack he managed to get another strike on the Goblin Chief without having to actually hit him leaving him with 101/150 HP, but Brandon was still struggling.
"Jeez, he so small and fast it's hard to hit him." Brandon said, frustrated by its nimbleness.
"I know. It's a good thing I picked up this skill otherwise we wouldn't have been able to hit it." Tenjin admitted.
"Well, keep using it! We have to keep bringing its HP down while the others kill the reinforcements." Brandon told him.
The Goblin Chief made another dodged another one of Brandon's attacks, and tried to strike him again. Thankfully, Brandon was starting to get used to its speed, and identify its attack patterns. He was able to time a shield bash perfectly, and follow up by making a diagonal power slash across its torso.
This was followed by a hit from Tenjin's hammer leaving the Goblin Chief with 55/150 HP left.

"Nice, more than half of its HP is gone!" Brandon shouted with joy.
"Don't get too excited. We got a few lucky shots, but his stats and speed are still a lot better than ours. And I jus realized I don't have enough stamina left to use hammer smash." Tenjin informed him.
What! Brandon shouted in dismay.
At this point Ava had managed to restore both of their HP to full, but she would need time for her MP to recover before she could cast enough healing spells to heal them again.
"We should surround him on both side, but go on defense." Brandon suggested. "If we continuing striking at him he'll just dodge and hit us while we are vulnerable. Let's draw him toward us, and take advantage of our numbers."
"Agreed!" Tenjin moved to the opposite side of Brandon placing the Goblin Chief between the two of them, then they both continued to engage the Goblin Chief.
Brandon and Tenjin managed to bring the Goblin Chief's HP down, but they hadn't expected what happened next. It began to shriek so loud everyone had to cover their ears. The sound of more goblins could be heard coming from every direction, and the party turned to see groups of goblins coming from every entrance into the cavern.
When Brandon and Tenjin looked at the Goblin Chief they noticed that it's stats had increased. It's strength, constitution, and even its agility increased by three.
Brandon tried to hit the Goblin Chief with a wide slash, but just missed it as it ducked below the blade. However, Tenjin managed to hit it with another hammer strike, but this time it did less damage leaving it with 43/150 HP.
The Goblin Chief maneuvered to the other side of Brandon, and swing at him with its cutlass managing to connect right at the back of Brandon's neck dealing him a critical hit.
With that single hit the Goblin Chief managed to almost take out half of Brandon's HP leaving him with 31/61 HP remaining. Brandin began to start feeling weak. His stats hadn't changed, but he definitely felt like he was in pain.
Before the Goblin Chief could take another swing Brandon managed to block it just in time, and push it backwards using his shield bash ability causing it another 12 damage. The Goblin Chief was stunned just long enough for Brandon to get a clean hit on it using a power slash bring its HP down 13 more points, but after that it maneuvered around Brandin again managing to hit him for another 15 points of damage.
Thankfully that presented Tenjin with an opportunity to strike the Goblin Chief. While they managed to whittle the Goblin Chief's HP down to 19 they were presented with another problem; goblins were coming at them from all sides, and Brandon could only take two more hits.
Tenjin began to cover Brandon's back to try to hold of the Goblin Chief, but Brandin still had to deal with the three goblins that were approaching them.
He could see their levels and stats. One of them was a level 3 and it's strength and agility were only six with its constitution being 5 like any other goblin, but it had 30 HP instead of 25. The other two were only level 2, and while they had the same stats as the level 3 goblin they still only had 25 HP each.
The level 3 goblin tried to strike at Brandon with its club, but he managed to block and use a shield bash on it followed by driving his sword through it at the last second.
Unfortunately, that left an opening for one of the other goblins to strike him with a dagger which managed to deal 3 points of damage to him. He struck at this one with his sword performing a power slash against it, but it managed to knock him again for another 3 points of damage.
He was able to finish it off with another regular swing going horizontally across its body, but the other one managed to hit Brandon twice while he was attacking the other one.
"Only 4 points left." Brandon thought to himself. "I'm fighting on the brink of death."
He took another power slash at the last goblin, then it a desperate maneuver to finish it off quickly. Brandon hit it with his shield finishing off the last of the three goblins.
Unbeknownst to Brandon at that time the Goblin Chief managed to get around Tenjin, and as Brandon's shield was no longer covering his torso since he used it to attack the other goblin the Goblin Chief managed to drive its cutlass right through Brandon's chest...
Meanwhile Felix and Cass had to act quickly. They had initially been heading to the north entrance to take on the three goblins coming from that direction, but after the Goblin Chief started shrieking three more higher level goblins started coming from that direction as well along with three of groups of three coming from the other entrances.
Brandon and Tenjin were now back-to-back taking on the goblin Chief, and there were several more goblins approaching them.
Cass had to make a quick decision. She stopped right where she was halfway between the north and the west entrances and shot off an arrow at one of the goblins at the north entrance. There was just enough distance between the first group of goblins coming from the north entrance and the second that Felix should have just enough time to finish them off before they got to him.
Seeing what Cass was doing Felix shot off a Hellfire spell mid-run at the same goblin Cass hit to finish it off. Now he was left with the remaining two in that group plus the three coming up right behind him.
After shooting off that arrow Cass turned her attention to the goblins coming from the west entrance. She shot an arrow at the level 3 goblin who was leading the group, and it turned its attention towards her.
It began to charge at her, and one of the level 2 goblins followed it as well while the other level 2 continued on towards Ava.
"Ava turn around! You have one coming towards you!" Cass shouted at the top of her lungs desperately trying to get Ava's attention.
Not a lot of time had past since Ava expended all of her MP, so she only had enough for one attack. When she turned around she sent a vine whip right at the goblin managing to leave it with only 6 HP left, but unfortunately she didn't have enough MP remaining for another attack.
The goblin struck her with its club managing to deal her 7 points of damage. It wasn't a lot, but She wasn't sure what to do she didn't have enough MP, and even if she did the goblin was too close for her to attack it with her vine whip.
She tried to pull out the dagger she had equipped, but the goblin hit her again. She was in such a panic that she dropped the dagger when she was hit. Desperate to survive Ava swung out her fist at the goblin, and managed to punch it right in the nose. To her surprise the goblin actually took a step back, and looked like it had taken damage.
When she looked at its HP it showed that it only had a single point left, so she swung at it one more time and managed to defeat it with that last punch.
Once that goblin was defeated she turned around to check on Brandon and Tenjin, but once she did there was a look of terror on her face. She saw the Goblin Chief drive it's cutlass right ithrough Brandon's chest.

Small Chests Are Fine Too
It is an undeniable fact that good things come in small packages. More often than not, it is necessary to trim the fat in order to bring what really matters to the forefront. Having extra bulk may seem like a good idea, but in reality it is merely a crutch that will one day become a hindrance, as it is no substitute for personality nor ability. Indeed, often times it is the small things in life that brighten up our daily lives and constantly remind us exactly why we do the things we do. However, it is important to keep an open mind, for while bigger is not always better, there are also times when it is. This holds especially true when it comes to hopes and dreams, which have been known to require a suitably large container from time to time. And while dreaming big could potentially lead to massive dissapointment, one will never truly reach fulfilment if they think too small. A truth that one small woman with meager aspirations is about to find out. DISCLAIMER: This is a spin-off/side story of my main series, Everybody Loves Large Chests, which is also mandatory reading to understand this one. It runs parallel to the main plot, branching off from the chapter titled Upheaval 2, so there will be spoilers for anyone who hasn't reached that point.

'People fear the unknown, it's classic to fear what isn't known, right? You fear what can harm you at that second. You fear death and betrayal. You fear power that is beyond reason? Why is it that I can't make you feel fear at my name? Why is it that when my footsteps are heard, you don't shat yourself? Does the Dancing Skulls meaning nothing to you?' I slowly take off my mask. Staring the blue-eyed king in the face, watching his eyes trembled and leak.. His lips crack and bleed from imprints. His nose flare out and blood leak out. Aeternalis
One born of nothingness. A world born of everything. To return all to nothing. Or surrender to everything. A man born into an infinite world, trying to find his path to the top. Trials and tribulations come from friends and foes alike until all bow before him. ------------------------------------- Author here! This is my 3rd story on RoyalRoad, the other two having long since been dropped years ago. They were a mess of ideas and had no real substanence to them, leading me to begin hating writing them and eventually just stop writing altogether for about a year and a half. Finally, after reading hundreds of thousands of pages of novels, from low fantasy to sci-fi litrpg's to thousands of pages long xianxias, I finally feel ready to write a real story that isn't a cesspool of ideas blended together. I plan to see this out to the end, as I already have the first few major arcs planned out unlike my other stories where I thought of ideas as I wrote. This story takes place in a world with a litrpg system, as per tags. This isn't a VRMMO or Reincarnation story. The main character exists in and is from said world. There are some differences from other litrpg's which will be explained in author notes in the few few chapters. I plan to publich 6-7 chapters a week, each 2-3k words long. If i fail to do so I will create a back-log I have to eventually make up but as of writing this it's the summer for me so I'll have plenty of time to write. Enjoy, and welcome to the world of Aeternalis.
