《Questline: Our Second Chance In Another World》Chapter 3: Introductions

Brandon watched as the girl slowly began to approach him. She looked like she was a little nervous and on guard, but so was Brandon. They were total stranger to one another, and they were both in a strange new world where everyone all of a sudden had weapons and potentially even powers that they only heard about in fantasy.
The last thing Ava remembered was drinking tea with her friend at their favorite cafe, when all of a sudden, she saw a white car speeding around the turn, and it went right through the cafe window where they were sitting. Next thing she knew she was in a blue void, and was listening to this female synthetic voice. It had said things like subject Ava Taylor, stats, and special reward, elven bloodline.
She then woke up in a strange forest, she couldn't move, and could only see three other people standing in front of her with their backs to her. As if that wasn't weird enough a man's voice came out of nowhere saying she was in a video game like world, and a character menu popped up out of nowhere in her vision.
Once she could move she realized there was another girl around her, and when she was told to look at the equipment tab on her character screen she was suddenly wearing blue robes, and holding a small stick in her hand.
She was scared, but once she saw this little fairy like creature talking to the boy closets to her she began to regain her composer a little. She could tell they were speaking, but it was hard to hear them. She saw the fairy creature fly up in the air, and couldn't help but be amazed. When it came back down it continued to talk to the boy for a while, and she decided that she needed to find out more about this world. She had received a notification to learn more about this world, so gathering information would be vital to her survival.
She slowly began walking over towards the boy, and she could see the fairy creature was looking right at her, then suddenly the boy had turned in her direction as well. She froze for a second, but decided to continue walking forward.
Suddenly the boy spoke. "Hi, my names Brandon. Nice to meet you!"
The boy held out his hand and began to smile. He had a very gentle smile, and gave off this warmth that made Ava drop her guard a little.
“He seems friendly enough.” Ava thought to herself, and judging by his accent he must be American. "My names Ava, and it's a pleasure to meet you."
The two of them shook hands, and Brandon took note of her British accent. "So, you're from England?" Brandin inquired.
Ava responded. 'Yes, yes. I'm from London, and you're American?"
"Yes, I'm from Los Angeles, California, he stated."
"Oh wow, and now we are both here." The stood there in awkward silence for a moment before Ava spoke again. "I like that fairy you have with you, she's very cute!"

Suddenly Ava could see the smile on Trinity's face turn into a scowl. "I am a pixie thank you very much! I'm no fairy!" She yelled as she crossed her arms.
"Oh, sorry, I didn't know." Ava said meekly. She was still a little afraid. She wasn't sure who Brandon was, or what he was capable of. In fact, she wasn't really sure what she was capable of at this point.
Brandon could see she was a little scared, so he tried his best to make her feel comfortable. "Hmm... Oh, I know! Trinity why don't you tell Ava what you just told me about where we are?"
Trinity looked up at Brandon, and a smile returned to her face. "Okay, will do boss! So, we are on the Mirage Islands. They are a cluster of secluded islands that can usually only be found by a guide pixie such as myself, or a special map obtained form a dungeon. You can get to this place any other way, but once you've been here you should be able to find it again no problem. You were fortunate to get this place as your starting area!"
Ava listened intently to what the Pixie was saying. She began to feel a little more comfortable around these two. Brandon seemed like a nice enough guy since he was willing to share information with her without her having to ask anything.
"So, I see we have very different equipment! Do you know how you ended up with robes, and a wand?" Brandon asked.
Ava began to inspect the stick she was holding in her hand and began to notice some of the finer details on it. The surface was smooth, and it look like it had been carved from high quality wood. She could also see strange writing on the bottom of the wand.
"Is it a rune?" She thought to herself. "I'm not exactly sure how I got this stuff. It was just in my inventory!"
"Same for me." Brandon explained. 'All of my equipment was just there waiting for me. Did you perhaps already assign your extra stat points before you opened your inventory?"
"Extra stat points?" Ava said with confusion. "I didn't get any extra stat points."
"Really?' Brandin asked with surprise. "My profile says I have two available stat points I need to assign. Wait... Can I ask what your stats are?"
Ava stepped back for a second when Brandon asked this. She felt uncertain about telling people what her stats were. If she was weak people could try taking advantage of her, but Brandon was being very open with her, and how else was she supposed to figure out how she measured up to other people here.
"Okay I'll tell you my stats, but you will have to tell me yours first okay?" She demanded.
"Okay!" Brandin responded. "Let's see, strength, constitution, agility, stamina, and magic are all 10, HP and MP are both 50, and I have two available stat points that are unassigned. Now, your turn."
Ava began listing off her stats, strength, constitution, and stamina are 10, but agility and magic are 11.

It was immediately obvious how different their stat points were. It appeared that Ava's stat points had already been pre-distributed, but neither of them were quite sure why. Brandon had the option to distribute two extra points, while apparently Ava's extra points were already assigned to magic and agility. They both concluded that this automatic point distribution might have something to do with their difference in equipment, but they couldn't be sure.
Suddenly, the other girl had approached the two of them, but now all of a sudden there was a dog trotting along by her side.
Cassidy Walsh lived in Dublin, Ireland, and was an expert archer/instructor for the youth. She had grown up bow hunting with her father, and the last thing she remembered was being on a hunting trip with him. They had been tracking a red deer for about 10 minutes when she heard a gunshot. She saw the deer fall right in front of her when she suddenly felt an intense pain in her stomach, and fell to the ground.
She screamed out, and two men came running towards her. When her dad saw them, he slugged one of the men, and started beating him. She couldn't really hear anything, and her vision started fading out.
She slowly bled out from the gunshot wound, and eventually the pain ceased. When she opened her eyes, she was in a blue void just like the others had been, and listened to the same system tell her all the same things it had told Brandon and Ava, except her special reward was a beast companion.
While she saw Brandon and Ava talking, she received a notice, Acquired: Beast Companion. She opened the notification, and a yellowish tan colored Irish wolfhound appeared standing right next to her. It reminded her of the dog her father had when he was young. She had seen several pictures of it, but couldn't remember it's name.
The system wanted her to choose its gender, and give it a name. She decided to make the dog a male, and name him Cillian after her father.
Once she finished naming her new companion she walked towards Brandon and Ava while they were talking about their stats.
"That's interesting how your points were already distributed, while the boy and I both have extra points that we are free to distribute as we please." She stated.
The two of them both noticed the girl who had approached them had a strong Irish accent, but Brandon was the first to speak up.
"So, your stats weren't pre-distributed same as mine, but you started with a bow and leather armor, plus a dog?" Brandon asked with a puzzled look on his face.
"Well, the dog was some kind of special reward just like your little fairy friend there I'm guessing." She explained.
"I'm a pixie, not a fairy!" Trinity grumbled with a frown on her face while she crossed her arms again.
"Sorry, your pixie friend." Cassidy corrected herself. "You can call me Cass by the way, and this one is Cillian." She stated as she pointed to the dog. "I'm an expert at archery if that helps clear things up."
"My name is Brandon, this is my guide pixie Trinity." Brandon said as he was gesturing towards himself and Trinity as he said both their names.
"And I'm Ava!" Ava stated firmly.
"Pleasure to meet you two. Now I have to ask Ava, did you always have pointed ears, or is that new?" Cass inquired to her.
Ava looked at Cass confused for a second, then she touched her ears and knew exactly what Cass was talking about. She hadn't noticed until then that her ears had changed, then she remembered what the synthetic voice said her special reward was, "elven bloodline".
"I think that has something to do with the special reward I received. It said I was now part elf." She explained.
"Maybe that has something to do with why your points where automatically assigned unlike ours." Brandon concluded with enthusiasm at his recent discovery. "Cass and I received companions as a reward instead of a bloodline, and we have extra points to distribute any way we want. So, maybe because of your bloodline your points were automatically distributed."
Suddenly, they heard another person speak from behind them. "I think you might be on to something. I have 11 points in strength and magic."
When they all turned around, they saw the blond haired boy approach them, and continue to speak. "My stats in constitution, agility, and stamina are 10 though, and my HP and MP are 50. According to the system or whatever, my special reward was a demon bloodline."
The three of them were stunned for a second. None of them could believe what they had heard. They were all thinking the same thing; did he really just say demon?
Again, Brandon was the first to speak. "Did you really just say demon?"
"Yeah, the names Felix by the way, Felix Jager. No need to say all your names. I heard you all introduce yourself." Felix explained in a friendly tone.
Brandon noticed that Felix was speaking in what sounded like a German accent and noticed his misty red eyes. He figured that maybe the demonic bloodline had something to do with the color of his eyes, but before he could ask any questions the other boy that had been standing off in the distance in front of Brandon earlier approached as well.
"And my name is Haruki Tenjin, but you can all call me Tenjin. Unlike Felix here I was blessed with an angelic bloodline." He stated in a way that almost made it seem like he was bragging to the group. "Oh, and my extra points appear to have been distributed to magic and constitution."
The rest of the group stood there in silence, slack jawed. What were the chances that both and angel and a demon would end up starting in the same place, on a secret magical island that only a few people had access to.

Yin-Yang
Mages in North America seem to have it all – typically from well-off families, and able to manipulate their environment in ways most of the world would never believe. They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other living thing, is only further proof. And look at the way they live on their own, barely a step above animals. It’s better for them to belong to a mage. Sensitives in North America live on the edge of society and survival – typically so paranoid they avoid hospitals and anything else that could lead to being tracked, many of them with little or no education and no legal identity or existence. Mages exist, and mages want sensitives for some reason, but no one ever comes back to explain what that reason is. Waiting every day for the hunters to notice them doesn’t lead to much motivation or hope for the future. And once they’re captured, they’re the property of someone with a terrifying amount of power over them. Anything is better than capture. Mages are born to be the masters, and sensitives are born victims. Or are they? Jax’s life is turned upside-down when he’s caught by the hunters and sold to a mage. Andreas is still mourning for his previous sensitive, though, unconsciously creating a difficult standard for Jax to live up to, all the more so while still struggling to come to terms with this new reality as Andreas’ sensitive. A runaway sensitive isn’t what Van expects at the mental health centre. Is this a hunter trap, set for him and the rest of the Donovan family by the hunters? The hunters would, after all, love to see them cross the line openly and finally do something they can be charged with. Either way, Miranda’s genuinely in trouble, and he can’t just abandon her to it. Snatching a sensitive out from under the hunters and hiding her is odd behaviour for a mage – but then, Catherine is an odd mage, living in disgrace in the old servants’ quarters of her grandmother’s house, responsible for cooking and housework. Lila owes Catherine her freedom; is there a way to help Catherine achieve her own, and at what price? Tension is building between traditionally-minded mages and those advocating change, and something has to break. *** Yin-Yang includes a small amount of profanity and no graphic sex or on-screen physical violence. However, sex and gender roles and relationships within the mage/sensitive subculture are non-traditional in mainstream North American terms. The key criterion in a primary relationship is not relative sex or gender, but the pairing of mage and sensitive; given the transformation of sensitives by their mages, physical sex is non-absolute for a sensitive, and gender identity can vary as in anyone else. *** *** The way mages treat sensitives is extremely varied and, in some cases is outright abusive. The struggle against that is pretty much the point of the book. It is NOT grimdark or misery-porn! However, if you will be triggered by this, please, don't read Yin-Yang! *** Complete stand-alone novel, 153K words! Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
