《The Time I Became a War Golem》Chapter 4: First Encounter

Well then, I hope you folks were able to connect with Elia and with her experiences because she's going to be a big part of my story in this world. I wish you were also able to understand her even a little. Anyway, I'm back to tell you what happened after I got this new body of mine. So I was telling you about the image right? Ok.

So the blue image of the body that I now own soon started to have status loading bars floating near a primary body part, some were half full while some were just flat out empty and just starting to be filled.

At first I was confused as to why those status bars are there, but then I figured that maybe they are like post activation sequence to check if those specific parts are functioning well (look at me nerding out using big words like 'activation sequence').

As I was examining the parts that still has a lot to load, the status bar floating near the head of the image became full and my vision started to come back, what came to welcome me in this new world was a scene of a battle to the death inside a cavern.

There were two rough looking men with their backs turn towards me, one holding a long single edged squared tip sword that looks like a very long kitchen cleaver while the other is wielding two short swords with jagged edges.

Facing against them are a man in white fine clothing; a fine two handed sword in his hands, a male Beastman with a sword and a shield and lastly an Elven girl with a wooden longbow.

Though there is a number advantage, the group of three was worse for wear, they are bruised and scratched all over, and their breath is ragged while the other two are fresh and full of energy.

I can't see the faces of the two men but I can tell by the air that they give off that they are enjoying the look of dread on the others faces which in turn made me feel angry. Right there and then, I know that anything that would happen here would not be good.

Feeling that, I anxiously monitored the image of my current body and their status bars wishing that it would load a little faster. And my wishing only intensified when I saw the man with short swords charge and slash the Beastman, fortunately he was prepared and was able to raise his shield in time. My probably non existent heart would have skipped a beat as I witnessed that transpire.

The two of them then got locked in a heated exchange of slashes and blocking, the rough man used his nimbleness to either evade the attacks of the Beastman or parry them and quickly strike which in turn would be blocked by the other fighter.

On the other hand, the man in fine clothing tried to back the Beastman up but was intercepted by the other rough fighter with the squared blade.

To my shock, the cleaver like sword was an equal match for the finely crafted two handed sword that tried to hack at the nimble fighter, sparks danced in the air as the two blades met each other like a scene from an anime.

Though the amazing fight was spoiled when I was able confirm my suspicion; the smile of the man with the squared blade as he fought the man in white, it was disturbing; he was ecstatic to see the struggle of the man he is engaged in combat with.

While all of this was happening, the Elven archer stayed in the back struggling to line up her aim with the fast agile man, her bow ready to straighten up and release the pointy projectile towards the targeted offender.

When she did released her arrow, it was detected by the offending man and was dodged entirely. In my head, I started to think that these bandit looking men are not your run of the mill ones.

Then as I continued to watch in both awe and disgust, I felt my body grow cold as I saw the expression that formed on the face of the rough man with short swords, it was a cruel smile with a tinge of lust, it was more cruel than what he had before.

Setting eyes on his new target, the rough man pushed and attacked faster, it caught the Beastman off guard and he received a few cuts on his chest and arms because of it.

Stunned for just only a moment by the sharp pain of the new cuts on his body, he was not able to catch up with man who started advancing towards the Elf.

But before the rouge was able to reach her, the man in white was able to block the rough man's advance with a powerful horizontal swing.

Not having time to dodge, the target decided to catch the sword with his own blades to keep himself safe. Confused as to how the man in white was standing there defending his ally, the bandit lookalike scanned his surrounding looking for his companion, he saw him kneeling on the floor, clutching his bloodied chest that had a diagonal slash from his left shoulder to the right side of his waist.

Cursing to himself, well I assuming it's a curse, I am not really familiar with the phrase he used so yeah. Anyway, the man with the cleaver sword then stood up.

As he was preparing to again engage in battle, I saw rocks and stones started to float around the room and fly towards the injured fighter, and the moment that they reached the man, the rocks and stones started to cover his chest and a faint green light started coming out of the cracks of the overlapping ruble.

That's when I realized that that guy was using Magic, real magical magic, and I assume that he formed that Magic as an armor and to also heal himself.

Seeing that his companion is now ready to once again fight, the man with two short swords shot a remark at him. "What are the hell are you doing, getting injured like that?" The guy just grunted and again assumed his fighting stance.

On the other hand, the Beastman, now fully recovered from his short stupor and is now more vigilant, readied his shield while the man in white took a lower stance than the one he was using, his legs being more farther apart from each other, his sword also then started to release embers from its blade.

Seeing that, I became sure that that weapon is being used to amplify the Magic that the man is forming. And also, I can heard myself mumbling "Wow, Fire blade…"

Not giving him a chance to fully utilize his burning weapon's capabilities, the rough dual wielder kicked the ground where he stood pushing himself to where the man with fine sword is, his speed shockingly fast.

Though a shield blocked his advance and pushed him back, sparks once again dancing in the air, the man was then forced to back pedal as an arrow enhanced with whirling wind struck his former position the second before.

Clicking his tongue in annoyance, the dual wielder called out to his companion who was still trying to heal himself. "Are you just going to watch? Help me with this three so we can finish this farce already!"

That small pause from combat brought me back to reality, I was lost in amazement at how these unknown people moved and how they used Magic, my inner otaku was jumping with joy but the reasonable part of me screamed at me to do something and help out, after all, I did promised some Heavenly beings that I would go and do my Mission with my very best.

Again, the image of my body became noticed and again I stared at it anxiously, with anxiety even. While I was waiting at the edge of my metaphorical chair, I noticed the two bandits charged at the small exhausted group, the man in white met the man with the cleaver seeing that he was targeting his companion that wields the shield.

He was able to stop the rough man from going any further but the one with the daggers slipped pass him, the guy using his ally as a diversion. It did not took long for him to reach the Beastman and start hacking at him and his shield, but the archer covered for her companion and shot multiple arrows in rapid succession, her drawing hand holding the arrows while she's firing.

Again the rough man was forced to dodge the arrows along with the slashes of the Beastman, their teamwork is clearly irritating their assailant, his annoyance evident on his face, I can see him grinding his teeth as he can't get an attack in and instead just dodge the near misses of arrows that is constantly being shot at him.

But it seems that luck was on his side; the Elven girl then fired an arrow that nicked the cheek of the rough man but then it was also her last and ran out of arrows to grab from her waist quiver, seeing that his anguish has ended, he again showed his disturbing grin and looked the archer as if she's some kind of food.

That's when I am sure I needed to move, I didn't care if the systems of this mechanical body is still half dead, I need to do something. Red warning windows popped up in sight but I didn't care, I figured if this body is truly mine, I can just ignore them continue on with what I want to do, and so I did.

When I willed myself to move I found it hard to do so, I also felt like something hard is wrapped around my body, though I didn't care, I need to move or else; I would be a failure at the first day of my new life and my Mission.

I strained myself to escape whatever thing that's pinning me down and as I was doing so, I started to hear cracking, and as I put more effort on my escape, the more they became louder.

It didn't took long for the material that covered me to break and shatter, that's when I noticed that it was a rock formation formed from thick stalagmites.

But at that same moment, I saw the rough man who was able to slip pass the shield slash the Beastman on the chest with his jagged blades; screams of pain overwhelmed whatever thing I use to hear in this body.

An anguished call from the man in white then followed the horrible noise of suffering; his voice filled with disbelief and sorrow. "Elia! Aren! No!"

The rough man did not wasted time and moved on towards the defenseless Elf and also slashed her, not really caring on the worry filled call of the man in white, I think he was even happy when he heard the scream. The Elf was thrown to the stony wall from the force of the diagonal cross slash that she was not able to dodge.

Shock covered me but then before it could engulf me whole, it was melted by the hot feeling of anger that I felt at what happened, a second passed and I found myself charging at the man who just slashed two people in front of me, even after my explosive escape from the stalagmites he seemingly didn't noticed me and was caught by surprise when my open right hand grabbed his face and slammed his head on the wall where he send the girl flying.

Though it seems like something inside me stopped me from making this awful man's head a messy splatter on the wall, on the other hand I was still able to put enough force in my attack that he was knocked out cold from the hit.

Making my priorities straight, I kneeled in front of the girl and checked her injury, and I became frozen, when I saw how serious her wound is. I was not able to make any reasonable or comprehensible though, all I can think was that she's going to die.

Dread filled my being, I was sure that there was nothing I can do for her and because of that I started to panic internally; watching her blood flow freely made me feel that I have failed in my Mission that I accepted.

But as I was sorrowing at my late response, the Elven girl's body burst into flames, it surprised me so much that I reeled back, but then when I realized that she's in flames, I tried to touch her and put out the fire somehow, but then a voiced stopped me. "No!," It screamed. "I-I am healing her!" It continued, true to what is said, the wounds of the girl slowly closed themselves.

Seeing that the voice was saying the truth, I turned my head to where it came from and saw the Beastman still laying front flat on the floor, his mouth and chin covered in blood red, his right arm outstretched and faintly glowing red.

Seeing his effort, I did what he said; I didn't touch the Elf, I decided that protecting these two would be the best response to this situation, I then stood up and readied myself, that's when I noticed two things; first:

I am missing my left arm and secondly; a rusted chipped greatsword just arms length away on the floor in front of me.

I, doing the only reasonable thing one can think about when they see a weapon, I grabbed the worn out greatsword (Even without knowing how to even swing it properly) and prepared myself for anything, at that same moment, the man in white was send skidding on his feet by his opponent.

Panting from exhaustion and pain, he glared at the man he's fighting, his eyes filled with burning emotions and passion, the same emotions that characters in anime or manga always shows in this kinds of situation.

His body doesn't seem to agree with him though, its filled with shallow cuts but those wounds for some reason won't stop bleeding. Racked with pain, the man in red stained white clothe shakily straighten himself and prepared for combat, he readied his wonderful sword only waiting for the attack to come. He then stole a glance at me before he spoke to me. "Please protect them, I will try to put an end of this fight here." Even being a complete stranger to me, I nod at him to confirm that I have accepted his request.

This exchange seemed to have both shocked and angered the remaining guy with the cleaver who's still standing with all of his wounds healing because of his Magic.

The man then charged at us, at me to be exact, wanting to erase me from the equation, probably me being the odd one made him think that I'm a very big threat which would be wrong, I don't even know how to swing the dang sword I am holding!

On the other hand, being wounded and worn out, the man in white was not able to keep up with the rough man and was not able to keep him away from me, though when I saw the blade coming for my neck, my body moved out of instinct and caught the blade with my chipped and rusted greatsword.

Both shocked and amazed at the same time, I stood my ground and held my sword strong as the bandit tried to overpower me but my blade didn't budge, it's as if my elbows and shoulder became locked in place which prevented the man from pushing any further.

Frustrated at the fact that he can't overpower me, he jumped back trying to gain distance but as soon as he landed, the man in white swung his sword at him, saved by his instincts, the rough man raised his sword and used the flat side of it as a shield to deflect the deadly cut, it worked but he was send skidding on the rocky ground of the cavern we are fighting in.

He glared deadly daggers at me and the bloodied man in white probably really frustrated at the prolonged fight and my sudden appearance and intrusion in their twisted enjoyment.

Though, his glare only made me feel angrier than before as my mind started concluding that he's mad at us for stopping him have his fun and beating them back instead of taking all of their punishment.

Now there I was standing in front of an injured Elven slave with my right hand clutching the rusted chipped claymore (yes the greatsword was a claymore) I found on the floor, with the mechanism on my left shoulder whirling trying to send signals and commands to the missing limb.

My systems primed to the highest possible setting at my condition and me being really really angry. Oh, now we're back to where we started! Well it's also the start of my adventures so its only natural right?
