For the first time in his life, the boy spoke at a volume above a whisper.

"Aaaah....AAAAAAAHHH......"

He moaned, holding his mother in his arms, covered in her blood. The humanity that had returned to his eyes after two years instantly became bloodlust. It seemed that he was more of an angry person than a sad one.

The first man that stabbed the woman went for him, and he instantly froze.

No, he didn't so much freeze as he was bound. The thing he was bound by started digging into his skin. They head operative rushed the arch-bishop out of the room as all of the other men charged the boy at once.

It was a massacre. The 4 men lay scattered across the room, along with most of their innards and well as the contents of the room. Only the woman lay untouched, still in the boy's arms. The men and the furniture had been ripped apart by their own shadows.

For hours, the boy sat in the room, his eyes wide open, holding his dead mother. The shadows kept flickering, and the corpses of the arch-bishop's men dwindled into ever-smaller pieces.

A man and a woman wearing robe-like clothing carefully stepped into the room, which looked more like the inside of butcher ogre's cave than anything people used to live in. Their shadows didn't waver, but the other shadow in the room instantly stretched towards them.

"Shit," the man muttered, as his hands glowed. The woman immediately took action as well.

An orb of condensed air hit the boy full on, as beams of intense, white light seared the shadows and prevented them from moving forward. The boy flew backwards into the wall, and the man barely prevented his death by catching him with a wind wall. The dead woman slumped to the floor as the shadows in the room returned to normal.

A single candle in a miraculously undamaged candle holder cast a feeble flicker on the room slick with blood.
